When James sees that the world is practically inmortal to convencional weapons due to his regenerating habilities, he sacrifice himself in order to erase that monster from existence. Then Kate meets with G and they found a revived Magician who is the responsable of the plagues of zombies in Venice, so the 2 agents fought the magician and when he is almost defeated, he takes a device (in a form of a box) to activate his ultimate last feat, the ability to clone himself, that box is the "pandora's box", in that ending the magician wins and the world is destroyed, but according to THOD3, that ending is not cannon , so Kate and G destroyed the magician, making the pandoras box never opened

I've tested it myself, and it didn't work, as the dragon constantly moves around and the grenade has a bigger chance of missing constantly moving targets than it would to a stationary enemy (an enemy that stands still without moving a single step).
