the fun thing about Ecco the Dolphin, is that it's a serial escalation on "what the hell did just happen here?" on the first game, it shows you the remains of some dead alien race from a long time ago, then jumps towards the second game in a time where your friends get kidnapped and now you have to kill the not-so-dead alien queen from the first game AGAIN, and afterwards, the series suffered a reboot in which we could describe it as NiGHTS into Dreams.... UNDER THE SEA. (complete with dolphin ideya :D) fun facts & tidbits: -the game avoids bag of spoiling issues by letting remain underwater in the sequel, as a plot continuation. -there was a "so long and thanks for all the fish" joke dialogue scrapped during it's development phase. -there were plans for a 3rd game (not counting the dreamcast reboot) where mankind is gone, and the oceans lie empty.
I think Ecco's death could be a bit of a creepy bad ending/game over. The bizarre sound effect, the way the screen turns black... it's unsettling to me.
I couldn't read the Lub Lub message because the recommended videos were in the way. I couldn't even remove them, because they don't count as annotations...
From the little I have seen I conclude that the weird helix structure is some kind of help on your adventure and that the orb (and perhaps the other bosses?) captured parts of him that you have to bring back so the helix structure can get its ful power back to help you even more during your journey. One kind of "help" he gives you is the ability to tranform into other animals.
The beauty behind Ecco wasn't how bizarre it was but how it gradually eased you into the strangeness of the story so slowly that you don't really question it. You start out in the first game looking for your pod after an admittedly weird storm sucks them out of the water - it's odd but you don't really have any reason to believe anything untoward or paranormal is going on. But before you know it, you're swimming through the lost city of Atlantis looking for a time machine so you can travel back to the Prehistoric ages and steal part of an alien organism to give back to itself in the modern era. It's... a different kind of game, I'll say that much.
I would describe the graphics in Tides of Time as 'annoyingly beautiful'. In order to see the breathtaking visuals, you had to play through the infuriatingly difficult levels
@@CopiousDoinksLLC Tides of Time isn't really that hard. It's the only one of the main Ecco games I've finished, thanks to the easy mode. A lot of the super hard levels, like the Globeholder have strategies that make them less of a nightmare. Although, tbh, most of the levels even on hard mode are easy.
the globe holder is the globe holder. the vortex wouldnt want the asterite to be revived after all. makes sense they'd make something to protect the globes they found. anyways, that fucker is even scarier on the genesis version, you cant push him anymore once the tentacles detach, and he rams into you as fast as he can, you have to keep dodging the holder as it slams into the walls over and over again, after about 8 slams it will finally burst open.
@@MekarturThe worst part is that you can't see it all the time and it's really fast. Succesfully dodging it feels more like luck than skill, though there might be a strategy I'm not aware of.
Citrus Kirby It's probably the latter, though. Once he did a Paperboy video called "Paperboy Traumatic Stress Disorder" which had a "#1" before he changed the name and took out the "#1".
Lub Lub originated as an elephant with a human body, who, instead of squishing a stickman or stretching him so much that he explodes, crushed him under his feet.
I always hated this stage, the globbeholder give me nightmares, a strange, bizarre and giant sphere who holds a portal, this is not friendly, this is a prision who try to smash you, a living structure, this game is always bizarre.
Ecco the Dolphin is really weird, yeah. Though I think it makes a bit more sense if you are familiar with the New Age literature that inspired it. Personally I couldn't get into it because the movement always makes my head spin. Even watching this video was hard for me. And as far as weird levels go, Villi People from EWJ2 is pretty damn out there. It's weird even for this franchise and that's saying something. Seemingly none of the elements really fit together and it's more like as if the writers pulled random words out of a hat.
"It's more like as if the writers pulled random words out of a hat." Ha; that's actually a trick people use when trying to create something. It's a word association game. Put random words in a hat; pick a few; write a story about it.
Music, for both games (when it comes to Tides of Time, I personally prefer the Genesis/Mega Drive version). The SEGA CD version of Tides of Time added some FMV cutscenes. The SEGA CD version of Ecco the Dolphin features some exclusive levels.
I remember playing this. I explored the first level, and i don`t remember what i did, but a cutscene appeared of what it seemed a nuclear explosion. Then the game continued as if nothing happened
You played the first game, Ecco the Dolphin (this one in the video is the sequel, Tides of Time). And you must've been playing on mute if you think it "continued like normal", lol. The change in atmosphere after the suction is drastic.
Never understand that game, never finished of course, WAS SO WTF THAT GAME Me, 10 years old, sega genesis emulator and i was like: This game probably is good and im just dumb. No, the game is weird and hard as fk ._.
He's basically an alien with the powers to control time and/or space. Not much is known about him (in Chrono Trigger, at least), but supposedly he's visited other planets too and did the same thing. Crash land in it, burrow itself deep to the core and begin draining the planet's energy/power, erupting out from the land and destroy the planet using said energy/power, and then reproducing(?) to create more of itself to repeat the whole process. Yeah, creepy as fuck. The lack of information or knowledge about it just makes it even creepier.
I think is less "not much is known about him" and more "there is little interesting information about him". I mean, Lavos is creepy, powerful and definitively a huge menace but in the end it's just an oversized cosmic tick.

its not like nights into dreams at all, and what dead alien race are you talking about? the people who built atlantis were human.
He's talking about the Vortex, I think... But they're not dead, either
To quote an old saying, "What the fuck did I just watch?"
I think Ecco's death could be a bit of a creepy bad ending/game over. The bizarre sound effect, the way the screen turns black... it's unsettling to me.
THATS ANIMAL ABUSE!
Stop being so fussy!

Sorry about that, it was the first time I used the End Cards. I fixed it now.
Same.
Therm6000 "many planets have been destroyed from arguments over who should voice act Lub Lub" that's the Lub Lub message for this video.
CraftySam Thanks.
David lechevalier No problem, I was watching it on my Ipad, annotations don't exactly work properly on that.

That death sound is bone chilling.

Ecco is like the first exposure to seapunk before seapunk was even a thing
Oh lord, Ecco. The memories come flooding back.
3:15 was watching with my headphones turned up, was not expecting that lmao.
That orb boss made me dizzy because the screen is moving all over the place.
Ecco's death noise scares the heck out of me
aliens invaded earth and the dolphin was trying to save humanity by destroying the enemys
Xifihas hmm then i must of only known 3 then
Humanity is mentioned in the first game, though, with the atlanteans.

I still don't know why you keep putting numbers in one-offs, but oh well.
Regardless, your videos are great and a joy to watch.
Antonio Marcos Well you never know when git might make a new one.
Citrus Kirby
Well, this one is just called "weirdest level ever", so I guess this is the only one.
Hmmm I guess your logic checks out. Though git is probobly either: making a new one, or he just likes numbering things to keep them in order.
Citrus Kirby It's probably the latter, though. Once he did a Paperboy video called "Paperboy Traumatic Stress Disorder" which had a "#1" before he changed the name and took out the "#1".
I really hope he makes this a series though...
No way this should be a one-off. There's gotta be plenty of just outright bizarre levels out there that should be explored and displayed.
"dolphin 'em up" XD
ITS SO SILLY!! XD
Ecco is fucking creepy.
I do have to ask, where did the whole Lub Lub thing come from?
I didn't checked it out but I think it's about his old "crappy cartoons". Also Lub Lub appears in the old intros of whoisthisgit's videos
Huh.
Lub Lub came into existence by himself
Communism With Giggles DONT ASSUME LUB LUBS GENDER
Lub Lub originated as an elephant with a human body, who, instead of squishing a stickman or stretching him so much that he explodes, crushed him under his feet.
Oh god I think I'm going to be sick watching this in full screen.
If you decide to make this a series, the game El Shaddai deserves its own entry. Almost everything about that game is surreal.
The music levels don't sound like they're from Ecco: The Tides of Time. What happened?
It's the Sega CD version. Though it's higher-quality, there's less variety of music.
whoisthisgit The same can be said from Doom in Sega 32X.
@@whoisthisgit I tend not to like the music as the soundtrack, for Saga Genesis Ecco games. I like the actual Genesis music.
Globe holder.
Glo Beholder
Beholder.
Damn that's pretty clever
Waking up to a new git video is amazing
I always hated this stage, the globbeholder give me nightmares, a strange, bizarre and giant sphere who holds a portal, this is not friendly, this is a prision who try to smash you, a living structure, this game is always bizarre.
The video quality on this is really smooth. Good job, git!
Is it appropiate to make a Most Powerful Characters Ever episode about Mega-Rayquaza? Or is it too predictable?
Nice, a new category of videos.
New video saga? I LOVE IT!!
You can get infinite air in the original Ecco The Dolphin by entering "LIFEFISH" as a password, but I'm not sure if it works in The Tides Of Time...
The levels here on Ecco are equally as weird as their inspirations, if not worse
wot? new series? COUNT ME IN
Everything about this game is insulting to gamers. Especially the virus in the PC version.
Another day, another series.
Is This Weirdest Levels Ever Or Boss Analysis?
keep spicing up your vids! good work!
Great video as always!

And the results are almost always glorious
111 111 Indeed.
What's the difference between the SEGACD and Genesis versions of the Ecco the dolphin games
The music.
I think the SegaCD also had a bonus mini-game.
The Genesis version doesn't suffer from load times.
Music, for both games (when it comes to Tides of Time, I personally prefer the Genesis/Mega Drive version).

I'd like a serie of this
There are some more weird levels. Maybe when you find some interestingly-weird ones, you should make a follow-up video.
2:21 What are you suppose to do? Take a break after you beat it because your hands will Hurt!
Well it's kinda fun in a very bizarre way
Ohh! I played this game as a child! Thank you
0:10
SomecallmyJohnny can agree I believe XD
I got a suggestion for this series, how about the drug trip from GTA V? That one gets pretty weird.
It Strongly reminds me of E.V.O - Search for Eden. O.o
Bizarre as much as it!
What is the music at the beginning?
oh yes a new series
thats an extremly weird boss.
you uploaded this on my birthday
I'm sure there's other odd levels you can find. There's some I consider as weird.
Know this is out there but have you ever played Trails in the Sky? Apologize if I asked in the wrong place.
So was this done because of doctor strange's release? Cause that movie was pretty weird too, so it makes sense.
The weirdest level I ever played was Level 5 in Rez.
this was awesome
MORE MORE MORE. Also will a Fire Emblem level ever get mentioned on best levels ever.
what are these aliens that are invading underwater
water aliens?
This game looks...marballous.
The moment I saw this video it was like 693 views...and 76 likes (seriously why 1 dislike though).
That was quick.
Weird levels?
How about the realm of the Mighty, from Dragon Quest 9?
That one can't make it's mind up about what perspective it's in.
What's wrong with Lub Lub voice acting for Lub Lub?
I'm pretty sure these games were made just to infuriate people. I hate Ecco: The Dolphin and its freakin New Age vibes.
Oh, btw: Comix Zone got a bad ending if you want do a video :).
Not "That bad" but... bad like play Shinobi (same way)
DROP EVERYTHING..? I was late!
NEW GIT VIDEO DROP IT ALL
Maybe it took some drugs
I want more
Please make more.
So is it a boss or not
Soooo... Bad weird or good weird?
Whois you should remove this as it's more like a mini 3 part series
Never understand that game, never finished of course, WAS SO WTF THAT GAME
