The fact that Cornell alternates his legs between jumps makes him look all the more dainty. Also, it sounds like you're setting the Vampires up for a potential Creepy Moments
Was looking for this comment. It always amuses me when games do that 😂. I remember seeing it as recently as Assassin's Creed 3 when jumping through the snow, it looks just as dainty and ridiculous 🤣.
I learned a lot of this and other parts of the game just by experimenting and here are some fun facts about it -You can discard the nitro at the little metal things on the Walls of the difficult sections -You can actually kill the lizardmen in the tight rope section by using the holy water sub weapon -Most "Intelligent" enemies will not respawn because attacking you will kill them too ( as seen with the zombie on the stair case) only living armors skeletons and the aforementioned block everything lizardmen. -The Bone pillars in the cog wheel section only spawn in hard mode same with the lizardman atop the shortcut of the tight rope section -Exhausting the dialogue of the self aware lizardman in the other side of the nitro room will save you a lot of trouble -Skeleton Motorcycles can still spawn on Carrie's route and are trickier to evade if you are not careful -Some areas lock themselves until you kill all the enemies ( like the first vampire area), you can hear a small metal slide sound after entering a room and again after killing all the enemies
The fan game "Toadette Strikes" has its own level centered around not jumping. "No Jumping Allowed" doesn't make Toadette explode if she jumps, but it does disable jumping, forcing you to navigate a deadly obstacle course without the jump. (However, it has no restrictions on throwing, bouncing, swimming or flutter-kicking...)
If you're addicted to jumping, you ought to try out Morrowind. Jumping becomes among THE fastest non-instant teleport-ways to travel around, once you get your acrobatics skill high enough. Add a sprinkling of magic and you can easily just leap all over the countryside and get from one town to another in a minute or less.
If I remember right, there's a glitch in that game that basically lets you skip to the end from nearly the beginning. I'd imagine (if I'm remembering it right) that would be the fastest way to travel.
@@qty1315 You can stack intelligence potions to make exponentially stronger potions, and eventually make a potion that lasts effectively forever and gives you so much stats everything falls apart.
@@Dukstless Not what I meant. The glitch I'm thinking of involves essentially clipping through every wall between you and the last area of the game. So, you could theoretically end up at the very end with just your base stats.
@@qty1315 That sounds a lot like using the alchemy exploit to get your speed stat to obscene levels, boosting your speed to a level so high the game can't keep up with it and you can very easily clip out of bounds just by running around. That or maybe Levitation.
Hey git, that moment when you use Alucard standing in that talking booth is very epic, like it is making some sort of cutscenes. I like to see more of it in the future to be honest!
Ah yes, this dreaded part. I played the original Castlevania 64 where you had to dodge the Skeleton Bikers to get back to that room with the magic seal with the Nitro. I didn't even attempt that run until after I had removed the magic seal on the wall. Funny enough, you also have to collect a Mandragora and bring it to the wall (and another wall you have to blast with the Nitro, but at least it's much closer by and doesn't have any real bad parts) and of course the game won't let you carry both, which means lots of running back and forth. At least you can jump around with the Mandragora; it doesn't blow you up.
Oooh...I still remember this level when I played _Legacy of Darkness_ ages ago. One of the worst things is that you also have to remember that you need to remove the protective magic seal _before_ detonating the Nitro/Mandragora on the wall. I made that mistake when I first played it as a kid and ended up having to do the whole thing all over again. 😣
The Dark Souls games have jumping, but you have to get a running start first so it prevents you from just pogo-sticking everywhere. Then in Elden Ring, they added a jump button, and your horse can jump, too. I'm willing to bet there's going to be a lot of tarnished ones pogo-sticking their way across the Lands Between.
Distorted Travesty 3's beginning section starts you off with absolutely no movement. You slowly get everything back throughout the intro, finally culminating in your jump. The area design prior to having the jump is super clever and fun. It's a metroidvania game, you'll absolutely love it.
Maybe that's why all the jump sounds in Xenoblade games sound like a ritual to summon satan. Monolith Soft wants to protect us from becoming jumpoholic.
ah yes, the magicall nitro section. Way easier as Carrie who was my preffered character of choice. She made that section easier because of her magic attacks. Just charge up a level 3 fireball or magic missile. Thunder ball? I mean it does have electrical properties at level 3. But the cog section is way easier as Carrie or well there's also just tossingg a level 3 axe or holy water would do but axes might be better since they arc. I only ever had 64 didn't play LoD till high school via emulator. But I loved it regardless. I remember having C64's strategy guide as a kid. Still couldn't get past the villa.
oh, "platforming game where you can't jump" reminded me of a video by "Rerez" about a crazy game called "Balan Wonderworld". that game is ALL about collecting costumes and using them...and some of those costumes have NO jump button, ONLY attack...on EVERY SINGLE BUTTON! A,B,X,Y, it doesn't MATTER, they ALL do the same thing!
I'm also a fan of moments where games strip you of something important, whether that be your arsenal or a part of your core kit. It's a nice check to see if you're over relying on something or if you can handle a major handicap. It's probably where "No ____" challenges originated from. Showing that you don't need to rely on something the game usually gives you is incredibly satisfying. For a good example, try beating a Mega Man game with only the Mega Buster.
Well...Rolling is also generally one of the fastest ways to travel in most zelda games that doesn't involve glitches or a mount. In fact, I think the *only* one where there's a faster method than rolling is OoT, where the fastest glitchless way to move is to backwalk (as adult) or sidehop (as child).
Within a Deep Forest has a few segments where you have to deal with balls (characters) that have significant weaknesses to deal with. One involves using a glass ball, which has a surprisingly high bounce and can pass through lasers unharmed, but uniquely shatters if falling from too great of a height. Another involves getting past a creature who eats any ball you bring to it for its abilities... so you bring the weakest and most useless ball which it lets past, needing to navigate a tunnel that is trivial to overcome with any other ball.
This is why I love Fox in super smash bros. Cornered? Jump. Projectiles on the ground? Jump. Opponent wants to dash attack/dtilt/raptor boost? Not gonna deal with that. Shield jump, ledge jump, short jump, full jump. You can even jump out of reflector if it hits a projectile. UP-tilt, UP-air, UP-smash all the good moves go up. And it's so noncommital because of his fall speed. I have jump mapped to 3 different buttons and the stick. I tried switching to meta knight because what's better than 2 jumps? Six! But then I jumped and it took like 2 seconds to land again and it was terrible.
Man, jumping constantly to travel around in games is still a problem for me. For me though, I picked it up cause of an FPS game called Painkiller, where jumping was pretty much the fastest way to travel around. That, included with the nostalgic grunts as your character jumped has just stuck with me ever since.
i love sitting on the right side, as the lady will only send out one spear, which you can duck. i like to do it at the last second and imagine its one of the few times Alucard loses his composure, if only a little.
"A platform game where you can't jump." ... Bionic Commando? Also I guess every master has their own master, those Dawn of Sorrow Final Guards had to learn their tricks somewhere, and it seems like these Lizardmen might be it.
Yeah, I remember this point in the vanilla version on Castlevania 64, though this is just a guess with the bone pillars but maybe they were added in the "Legacy of Darkness" version of this? Still I remember one time I made it right to the end and hit the jump button instead of the "examine" button, that was a very sad moment.....
This reminds me of the Jump upgrade in Ni no Kuni that you can get as a merit reward. The description literally reads: "Allows you to jump by pressing (console appropriate button) while running. Not very useful, but a whole lot of fun!"
What a shame you didn't use Carrie in this video. She is my favorite of this game. AND it's also hilarious seeing her flying away after exploding. (BTW, I figured it could have been mentioned that there is a safety shuttle to drop the nitro in if you give up. Though you still need to do it later anyways to beat the game)
There's a section of a level much like this in Voodoo Vince for the original Xbox, later remastered and released on Steam. You have to carry a canister of highly explosive gas up a series of lifts and ramps while dodging flame jets and a handful of enemies, and the slightest drop will detonate the canister. Being a living Voodoo doll, it doesn't kill or even hurt Vince, just harmlessly lights him on fire, but you do have to start the trek all over again.
One more thing people took issue with when it comes to Castlevania 64. I could see not allowing jumping, but no hits at all? And there's more enemies on the way back than there were originally? This should qualify it for one of the Worst Levels Ever. Jumping is normally useless in most MMORPGs, but it's always there, and always something you can't help but use. Be it World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, Wildstar or The Old Republic, I can't resist, especially when I'm just passing time waiting for my teammates to show up for a raid or boss. WoW even had flip animations, and I think there was one spot in the Echoing Caverns where you had to jump a gap or fall down to a lower level.

-Exhausting the dialogue of the self aware lizardman in the other side of the nitro room will save you a lot of trouble
