Agreed, especially the music is fantastic. Shame it becomes somewhat unfair towards the end; this game really would've benefitted from a save/password system.
This channel is just too sadly underrated. I've seen many videos that show what modern games might be like if they were made back in the early 1980's, but showing them as old B&W movies was was so brilliant I need to wear shades!
@@carltonleboss You could go back in time to the Jurassic period, ancient Egypt, medieval times, and the Wild West, and forwards in time to a bad future. There were also two other secret eras you could access by random chance, one being the first Action level in the first Scribblenauts (which is actually required for 100% completion, funnily enough) and the other being... some desolate planet in the middle of nowhere?
It's a damn shame a game this creative wasn't allowed to have a sequel. I only found out about this game a few years ago, and now it's become one of my favorite SNES games of all time. Really wish Plok 2 didn't get canceled, but maybe we'll see it someday...
The creators are making a webcomic of what happened to Plok after the events of the game. I don't think it's been updated for a few months now, though.
The manual said the third bobbins brother left 'due to creative differences'. (something like - there were rumours of a third bobbins brother, because now there are only two)
Aw yeah, it's Plok! My favourite platformer as a child, next to Donkey Kong Country. Too bad I could never see the end because the last few levels are just so unforgiving, which made me play it on easy mode. However you can't finish the game on easy mode! The soundtrack is absolutely excellent though. As much as I liked the nostalgia levels however I would have preferred if they had been introduced a few levels later. They come too early after the first few levels with the same concept and afterwards you have a run-in with another boss, which means you have two boss fights almost in succession. Also a fun fact about the Bobbin Bros: the manual says that they were circus acrobats and the third brother left them later on because of "creative. differences"
7:50 I'm dissapointed you didn't comment on the ABSOLUTE BANGER that is the boss theme music, composed by the great Tim Follin, who didn't have to go so hard on the music but did and it's awesome.
The easy mode is called "Child's Play" which is quite insulting to people who choose it 😂 Even the devs of Plok said the game(in Normal mode) is pretty hard.
Yes it was. Infact, another game was being developed inside Nintendo that also featured a character with floating limbs, but it eventually became Yoshi's Island
6:33 hmmmm lets see COD had a ragtime mode. kingdom hearts had timeless river. super mario galaxy 2 had one section that slows down like an old movie. Epic Mickey is just an entire museum of disney and old cartoon history. There may be others i dont know of.
whoisthisgit oops I completely forgot about that game, it's a mickey mouse cartoon history. The first level being steamboat willie becoming from grey to color. Also a quick metion to epic mickey 1 and 2, the way to travel is through the movie projectors that have most of the mickey cartoons, a few oswald cartoons, and few others that are from Disney past like the skeleton dance.
Although not a game or a level, peacock from skull girls is a representation of old time cartoons. And then there's "Cuphead" the entire game is just a 1930s cartoon.
OMG that was one of my fav games on snes, i totally forgot about it! I loved world map music, it brings so many good memories when I hear it again. Thank you!
It would have been so nice to have had that flashback sequence return in the final level, flashing between time periods, and the final boss revealing that she had killed Plok's grand-pappy all along or whatever.
Your videos are absolutely brilliant, I sadly haven't had the chance to play many of the games you talk about and play through but still, I love your take on everything and the funny bits you always put in the videos. Thanks :D
Agustin Leguiza There is actually a modern game where this happens. Shovel knight: Specter of Torment. Where there are sequences where specter knight reminisces about how he was cursed. During those sequences it uses a sepia color filter and you play as donovan, Specter knight before he was cursed. He also travels alongside his pal Luan. Though the music isn't old timey and such, It shows good backstory of what happened. Donovan is in search of an amulet. In the end he finds it but he is attacked by shield knight who is trying to stop him because the amulet is actually cursed. In the end, Shield knight is cursed by the amulet and becomes the game's antagonist, the Enchantress, and Donovan is cursed by the enchantress and is given a mission to recruit the order of no quarter in order to get his life back.
As you showed in Boss Analysis # 23, the instruction book for Plok explains the bosses, and it also explains what happens to Irving. And that's Rockyfella at 7:37, isn't it?
All the way through watching the video I was thinking about... well, how hard it seemed to be. First off (if I recall correctly from your video about the insect queen) you can't save at all, and all you have are lives right? if so, it means you only have one shot at the whole game. I didn't notice them refill at all, too. Very impressed that you could get so far, despite my not knowing about it. As for the grandfather part... It seemed fun, something I would've loved if I had played it as a kid. I always liked something "different" from the main story, like going to the past here, or seeing a new thing unfold. I'm getting a bit off track, so I'll cut it short, still love the videos and I'm impressed you could play the game so long! Also, the fire emblem part at the end made me laugh, heh.
oh btw i arrive again to nerd out on you; the 3rd bobbins brother still exists according to the webcomic, when he appears during a jury trial for plok yeah i didnt know it existed too until recently just sayin. guess he was out for tea when plok himself came to take back the flag
@@Swellownic I will warn you, it's hard as heck and has 0 save states! It's one of the best SNES games I've played though. I just thought I'd give a fair warning

Pissing people off in such a manner makes 1% crit chances more likely to proc.
I'm glad you talked about Plok, it's such a gem of a game.

Halo/Call of Duty/Battlefield sucks, going to war? Creators used no imagination at all.

In Scribblenauts, you can create a time machine, and if you use it, the world turns black and white and you get a fancy hat
I knew I wasn't the only one who knew about that!
IIRC, in Super Scribblenauts you could use the time machine to go to one of 5 different eras

For anyone wanting to play through Plok (and I suggest you do), note that the Grandpappy levels don't appear on Easy mode.
The easy mode is called "Child's Play" which is quite insulting to people who choose it 😂
Even the devs of Plok said the game(in Normal mode) is pretty hard.
if you take one of the warps in cotton island you can play one, but it puts you back to akrillic as soon you beat it lol
the developers of plok had a missed chance to call grandpappy plok “grandplokky”
