      I mean, he's volunteering to take care of the environment by raising money and talking to strangers who want him to leave, so it makes sense he would be a down to earth sorta guy who will listen and believe people when they talk (while still making sure the logic checks out.)
      I mean, if he wanted to take care of the environment another option could've been ecoterrorism and merc'ing CEOs of the worst polluting companies. And he didn't. He chose to believe that people are good and that they would give a stranger money towards a cause.

    This gets at the troubling wish fullfillment quality of timeloop stories. Like no one talks about it but being in a Groundhog Day situation would be great because of the lack of consequences. So many films treat it as a curse but to be excused from causation and have all your actions take place in a vaccumn would be a blessing in alot of ways.

    "And there's no re-doing life." Joel, I really expected a bit of philosophical monologue here, but it's just understated enough to sting without getting preachy. Like I felt time dilate around me for a second while I considered that line. You touched on this in "an open letter to time" on Trent's channel too - I'm one of those people who keep waiting for things to calm down or line up properly before I can do whatever it is I wanted to do. But that's not going to happen, we're going to screw stuff up, we can't re-do it. Chase joy, I guess.

    • @Alex-fc8xn
      @Alex-fc8xn 2 роки тому +5

      Your comment is inspiring to me, as well. I have a lot of anxiety and struggle with procrastination out of fear of failure and generally having adhd. But nothing will ever be perfect enough to get me to do things I've wanted or needed to for a long time, I have to be the one to initiate that. And it's hard. Caffeine, taking breaks, exposing myself to small bits of failure to remind myself that it isn't the end of the world, and asking for help from others makes it easier to overcome that initial hurdle. It's especially helpful, I find, to have a friend or partner give you a pep talk and maybe hang out with you while you do the thing (in person or over the phone/internet), and maybe make plans for a reward if you get things done.
      Like I was procrastinating research for an art project, so what my partner and I did was we watched an episode of a show together, then I spent time looking things up while they played a round in a video game (20-40min) and when they finished I got to take a break and keep watching. It worked well for me, but I'm autistic and adhd and what works for me might not be the right thing for everyone.
      I think the biggest thing really is finding people who will encourage, validate, and give honest but gentle feedback to you now and then when you're working o something you know is hard. And remember that you can practice the skills needed for it in a situation with less importance riding on it in order to gain confidence. Like I do a lot of rough draft ideas, practice art techniques needed, and then ask for feedback before applying those to the good copy version of the art. Taking breaks is also important. Very few things need to be done all in one go, and making a bit of progress is better than none

These next 2-ish years until I graduate are going to be really tough, but it’s very comforting to know I’m not the only one who, at one point or another, has felt this way. So frustrated with the everyday you just wanna explode and punch some random dude who totally doesn’t deserve it.
