I love that you normalized how as a mom even getting the dishes in the sink done is an accomplishment!! I love watching you as a single mom with two kids that’s nice to hear but honestly I would go crazy and get so overwhelmed with a husband and kids . You have 4-5 kids it looks like . Not sure why your videos were suggested for me, an atheist and non cook who lives a different kind of single lifestyle, but I am drawn to them. What you said really resonated with me. We mothers do all the things cause we have to do them 😅 and some days all that can be done is washing the dishes, and its ok. Yesterday my 3month old baby had a difficult day and all he wanted was to be held and nursed. All day long. And I did just that. No dishes, no cleaning, nothing. So we ordered take away and snuggled on the sofa as a family. There is no point in comparing ourselves to others or even our lives before the tiny humans came and changed everything. So happy to see a person on youtube not obsessed with being perfect all the time and pretending that this can be achieved!

I put your videos on when I'm cleaning my kitchen. You motivate me to get my dishes done, washed, dried and put away every day. I put away my dish drying rack that I had by the sink which was bulky and cluttered. I now dry my dishes while unloading the dishwasher, and put everything away in it's place. I love having the extra counter space without the ugly dish rack with piled up dishes in it. Thank you for the inspiration!

From that one I continued watching the other ones and I learned with you to prepare the starter instead of using commercial yeast for the bread. So touched that you are watching and even interested. On Shabbat we rest and don’t turn on any electricity. That is why we use a hot plate that stays on over Shabbat to keep foods warm. Same applies for the urn. It probably seems confusing, I understand 🙈.

I would like to know if you would be willing to share the meanings & observances behind the preps? For example what does Shabbat mean, Rosh Hashanah etc? I would love to learn more about the meanings & traditions of your faith. It seems so peaceful & gentle. If that is something you can't do, I understand. I will continue to look forward to your videos! Thank You again for sharing your time with us. My first children were also twins, but I didn't know for sure until the night before I went into labor. So no opportunity to learn and prepare. I was living far from family and friends and we didn't even have a telephone. My husband had a demanding job and was at work till late afternoon. So I made things up as I went along and things just sort of worked themselves out after the first couple of months. I had always heard that a new baby is a 24 hour job, so I didn't realize how swamped I was. Then when my next child was a singleton, I was amazed at how much free time I had! Lol.
I discovered your channel recently and I enjoy watching it immensely. My home is mostly vegetarian but I have buchari friends so I know that meat is the centerpiece of your cooking, but I still have found useful tips, especially on kitchen organization. May you have lots of success and happiness 😊

Being from Tashkent, would you say primarily only Ashkenazi Jews there now? Or Sephardic too. I noticed not a lot of Sephardic in Eastern Europe but influences through food and history are present… love your channel so so much ❤️ thank you for all of your amazing videos

Hi Sonya. I just tumbled upon your channel a week ago. I'm a Buddhist and I don't have a vast knowledge of the Jewish religion. I'm continuing to watch your videos mainly because I admire your beauty. Your face, hair, your smile is beautiful 😇. I'm extremely amazed of the energy you have to continue to do your work. Happy Rosh Hashanah to you and your loving family 💞💞💞

Great video!! One thing i was curious about is if you follow recipes or if you make the same dishes each week so you already have it down. Also when you cook for the week, do you follow a set menu so you pretty much know in advance what you'll be making for each day? I find that I cannot make the same dish twice (except for a few recipes which I've developed over the years and I know my family likes) so I'm always on Pinterest looking for new recipes and inspiration but what ends up happening is that I spend a lot of my time looking up recipes, reading them and then making them for thr first time so I'm not so good with time management.

Sonya been trying to catch up on your videos. Forgive me if I’m asking duplicate questions.Do you ever show your set table? Lighting the candles when the sun starts to go down? Showing any of you and your guests celebrating Shabbat? My goodness who taught you to cook? Are these mom’s recipes? Have you watched Shtisel on Netflix or do you not have a television?

New sub! I know this was posted a while ago, but i would love to hear your journey to motherhood & infertility. As an infertility warrior myself, who now has 4 kiddos, as hard as it is, it is so therapeutic to release it and tell your story.

Hi Daisy, I know you totally understand where I am coming from. Just saying out loud here on UA-cam that I struggled with infertility was very hard… maybe one day I will get the courage to talk about it.

    • @Daisyjc2386
      @Daisyjc2386 3 роки тому +2

Yes, it is so hard. I actually recorded a podcast episode about 3years after i already had two kids and it was so out of my introverted comfort zone. I cried in it which i thought i was not going to, but i felt like it stitched a little bit of the brokenness. I actually still have not listened to the episode just because it was tough to recall, like you said. If you ever want to listen it’s under “Restoring Fertility Naturally.” Epi. 9.

I should have known you are a nurse. (I am a retired psychiatric RN). Organizational and time management skills come with the territory. Also an attitude of "Let's get on with it." for things that have to be done.

    • @lizb853

I fully agree with this. I'm a now long since retired at 75 years of age RN, with various disciplines behind me in nursing mostly paediatrics, orthopaedics, and cardiac and ITU experience all over a period of 40 years as a nurse.
I was trained to work to a tight schedule, and found it useful when I had a house, a son, and an invalid husband to care for single handedly 24/7 365 a year. I was trained to cook by my late father himself sn ex cordon bleue chef, so I was lucky. As far as I can tell, the main ingredient in anyone's ife even with training and discipline labour saving devices and lists of all sorts, is to LOVE what you do and whom you're doing it for. This speeds up msny a long boring or dirty job, and helps move things along.
I think! ( but I could ofcourse be wrong) that it's because she
absolutely ADORES and loves her work, home, husband and children, and her lovely cooking, that Sonya seems to breeze through everything she does, and perhaps most importantly, God is really on her side, and gives her the strength to live as she does. Infact I'm SURE of that.

UA-cam is "extracurricular" for you?! Sonya, have you ever considered writing a cookbook incorporating Jewish holidays, the foods served, and specific tasks/details needing to be performed and when? You have time management down to a "science" and this can be helpful to many that struggle. Writing a book is a huge undertaking however you have the capability to do it! I am not Jewish but would definitely appreciate something as that!
