Now the glasses....from what I heard, he was the headliner for an early sixties tour in the UK featuring the Beatles. They learnt alot about musicianship from him, but that's another story. Anyway, I think Roy forgot his prescription eyeglasses in the US, and only had his pair of prescription sunglasses on him. So he had to use these during the tour, and the "new look" was a hit. So he kept wearing them in all his future shows.😄
Roy Orbison...the greatest voice ...endorsed by The Beatles, Elvis, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan..you are so right ..."this dude was something else" his voice was matched by his humanity. By all accounts he was a shy humble respectful man who suffered unimaginable tragedy in his life yet returned and built a new life with his love and kindness. Roy Orbison spoke for the broken-hearted and the lonely. Very sad he died at such a young age aged 52, but his music will be forever. Roy did say that his voice was a gift from God. To think he suffered from stage-fright
Roy was amazing and a very unique voice. Last group he was involved with was a super group Called the Traveling Wilburys. George Harrison (Beatles), Jeff Lynne (ELO), Tom Petty (TP & The Heartbreakers), and Bob Dylan.
He also wrote and recorded Blue Bayou. Then Linda Ronstadt covered it and it became one of her most famous songs. Roy said that “It’s her song now”. Such a gentleman!
When the greatest solo artist in the history of music says you have the greatest voice he’s ever heard that’s a hell of a compliment !! that’s what Elvis Presley said about Roy Orbison
I always loved the late Roy Orbison's music. If you haven't yet heard "Blue Angel", "Running Scared" & "Leah" they're only a few of his hits that you really need to hear. I had the privilege many (many) years ago of seeing him live and he was fantastic. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
There is a channel called wings of pegasus where the guy has the ability to strip songs down to just the vocals. His review of Roy was phenomenal as he showed Roy's ability to jump immediately into vibrato with no transition time.
The Traveling Wiburys were a super group with Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Bob Dylan. Roy’s greatest hits would cover the years he influenced rock. From the fifties till his death in 1988. One of the best ever
Elvis called Roy Orbison "The greatest singer in the world", and Roy said about Elvis " Elvis was bigger than life, he was the firstest with the mostest"
The Beattles were huge fans of Roy Orbison. George Harrison and Roy Orbison had been friends since the ealry 1960s When Roy toured with the Beattle from May 18, 1963 - June 9, 1963. At the beginning of the tour Roy headlined the Tour by the end of the tour The Beattles were headlining it. In 1988 Roy and George got together with their friends Jeff Lynne(ELO), Bob Dylan and Tom Petty (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers) to form the Traveling Wilburys to make an album. It's fantastic unfortunately Roy died after he finished his lyric for the song End of The Line, but before the video could be made. When Roy's lyrics played they would show his guitar on a rocking chair and his picture.
You mean Roy Hamilton was Elvis favorite singer. Elvis also loved Roy Orbison's voice & When Roy attended Elvis concert in the 70s, Elvis called Roy Orbison The greatest singer of all time.
Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne wrote this…Roy was there was Tom wrote the lyrics and chord structure…during the Traveling Wilburies sessions they wrote it together
Even Elvis said he was the greatest singer in the world, which says a lot!! He wrote his first song when he was eight. He had 9 top ten hits between 1960 and 1965 and another 10 that broke the top 40! So, 19 hits in 5 years, pretty astonishing!
P.S. for a prime example of his esteem, love, respect,& appeal, including most of his catalogue watch "Black&White Night" his last recorded concert, the audience & backing musicians are a who's who in the music scene spanning decades, your in for A SPECIAL TREAT!!!props to T Bone Burnett(musician/musicologist/producer) for making it possible f.y.i. he's the other guy in shades, wearing period fashion from '50/'60's
I heard an interview with George Harrison when they were practicing before recording and Harrison didn't really know him. When practicing they could hardly hear him so it had Harrison concerned. When they went to record Orbison told Harrison to turn his mike as low as it would go. Harrison was skeptical but complied. When that sang Orbison practically destroyed it through the sheer power of his voice. He was one of those once in a lifetime performers.
You have to do "Oh, Pretty Woman"! And the songs "Handle with Care" and "End of the Line" with his supergroup TheTraveling Wilburys that also had Goerge Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan.
one of his later songs.. he kind of disappeared for quite a while and then came back in the 80s just to die not long after this song. . . great artist...loved all his stuff. . .if you want to hear some cool octaves go take a listen to 'Liah' one of his earlier hits
Roy Orbison was beloved in the industry as a person first and as a vocal and songwriting icon. He started at Sun Records with Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and was in the Class of '55 with Elvis. He is a true original: there was never anyone like him before him, and there will never be anyone like him since. He had an unbelievable range and sounded even better if you can believe that, in person. "Not Alone Anymore" on the Traveling Wilbury's CD is a must listen. THANK YOU for this reaction while also turning this LEGEND on to the younger generation.
SO THIS WAS THE YEAR ( 88 ) THAT ROY PASSED ON☹, IF YOU WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO OF ( END OF THE LINE ) THEY RECORDED THAT GREAT SHORT SONG BUT ROY HAD DIED!😮 YOU SEE A PHOTO FRAME, THE EMPTY CHAIR WITH HIS GUITAR ON IT, YEAH, JUST VERY SAD BUT A SUPERRRRR TRIBUTE👍 TO ROY FROM THE BAND! 💯 PEACE!
I was only in my 20's in 1988, but I was listening to our oldies station and the DJ said he was just handed a new Roy Orbison record and told to just play it. He didn't have any other info, and this just does not happen on radio. It's not how it works. Orbison had not come out with a new song in many, many years.....but the DJ was assured, this sounds like classic Orbison. It was THIS SONG. I was SO PLEASED and loved it instantly because....well....it's obvious. Besides being a great song it has the obvious Orbison sound. He did not change, and thank god for that!!
so many classic songs.......California blue, crying, the only one, careless heart...and of course Blue Bayou also his late collaberation as one of the travelling Wilburys ( handle with care, end of the line)
One of the greatest voices ever !!!! Yes Elvis loved his range in his voice and only wished he could reach the highest notes like Roy did. There use to be a tribute show that traveled and there was a tribute artist that did Roy and his brother was there and got to meet him. We got a chance to tell him what a great guy we al though of him.❤ awesome love your channel try some of the Traveling Wilberys 😊
Saw Roy in Augusta Maine in 1988. He got a standing ovation after every song .I am glad I took my video camera and my brother bought his tape recorder. We captured the whole concert. He passed away later that year. Greatest voice ever.
This performance couldn’t have been too long before he died. He passed in December of ‘88. He was only… 58, I think. Not even old. But he still sounded like he did at 28. And it’s weird because with that voice, you figure he’s gotta put his whole body into it, but he wouldn’t move when he was singing, except to tap his foot or move his head a little, and play his guitar. It looked as if it were truly effortless for him. Just stand there and open his mouth and this angelic sound would just… come out… like you’d take a breath. Guy was an absolute legend. Elvis, Springsteen, KD Lang… he influenced generations of artists. Check out “Ooby Dooby,” “I Drove All Night,” and “You May Feel Me Crying.” And yeah, anything from Traveling Wilburys, Volume 1. But especially “Not Alone Anymore,” which Roy sang lead on.
Guitarist Pete Anderson said that Roy used to drink Chocolate milk and Coca Cola and smoke a Marlboro cigarette before singing. All things that singers shouldn't do, but Roy's vocal chords seemed to be bullet proof.
Such a unique voice! Love him!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Now the glasses....from what I heard, he was the headliner for an early sixties tour in the UK featuring the Beatles. They learnt alot about musicianship from him, but that's another story. Anyway, I think Roy forgot his prescription eyeglasses in the US, and only had his pair of prescription sunglasses on him. So he had to use these during the tour, and the "new look" was a hit. So he kept wearing them in all his future shows.😄
He also had a severe case of stage fright and the shades helped ease that.
Traveling Wilburys are a must
End of the Line song
and Handle with Care
& when you follow up on The Traveling Willbury’s, take a minute & look up the band members. It’ll blow your socks off.
Hoping someone brought them up ,
Exactly
Roy Orbison is DEFINITELY part of the GOAT herd!
Roy Orbison...the greatest voice ...endorsed by The Beatles, Elvis, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan..you are so right ..."this dude was something else" his voice was matched by his humanity. Roy and 4 other legends in The Traveling Wilbury's is a must watch.
The man had a voice of an angel.
"Crying" is my favorite heart-breaking Roy Orbison song.
Leah
It's over is another classic heartbreak song .
Yes, he was one of the all-time greats. He was already a legend in 1988.
I saw him in concert at Auburn U. in 1966 and at a night club in 1967. When he sang, it was if he was singing to each of us there. What a voice.
Yes, Roy is one of the all-time greats in my (and many many others) opinion. He was a beautiful soul with a golden voice.
Roy was amazing and a very unique voice. Last group he was involved with was a super group Called the Traveling Wilburys. George Harrison (Beatles), Jeff Lynne (ELO), Tom Petty (TP & The Heartbreakers), and Bob Dylan.
Roy had the touch. what his eyes lacked, his voice and music made up for.
He also wrote and recorded Blue Bayou. Then Linda Ronstadt covered it and it became one of her most famous songs. Roy said that “It’s her song now”. Such a gentleman!
I remember my mom singing to Roy Orbison back in the early 1960s, the Ducktails and Greasers liked his music back then.
Roy Orbison has the clearest singing voice - wonderful to listen to!
One of the best ever
his voice is smooth and buttery...
When the greatest solo artist in the history of music says you have the greatest voice he’s ever heard that’s a hell of a compliment !! that’s what Elvis Presley said about Roy Orbison
Imagine having a career like his...having fun and making people happy on such a huge level. You are missed Roy but never forgotten!

Wings of Pegasus is a great channel. Fil Henley knows his stuff when it comes to music.
The Traveling Wiburys were a super group with Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Bob Dylan. Roy’s greatest hits would cover the years he influenced rock. From the fifties till his death in 1988. One of the best ever
I like the respect they paid him after he did and when the second album came out they called it volume 3 since they were to do volume 2 with Roy.
Elvis said Roy was "the greatest singer in the world."
Elvis called Roy Orbison "The greatest singer in the world", and Roy said about Elvis " Elvis was bigger than life, he was the firstest with the mostest"
I agree with Elvis
He never wanted him on the same bill playing with him!
Pretty Woman on his Black and White Nights concert is awesome. The guitar duels and the back up band full of great musicians make it one of a kind!
Put more of this ICON on your reactions!!!!!❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Everyone looked up to Roy Orbison. His "Black and White Night" was a super group of stars backing him up.
He is one of the all time greats!!
Tiniest fraction of Roy’s power. 5 octave range. Occasionally blew out speakers just with his voice.
Roy wrote this song in 20 minutes. (His words) He was also Elvis' favorite singer.
You mean Roy Hamilton was Elvis favorite singer. Elvis also loved Roy Orbison's voice & When Roy attended Elvis concert in the 70s, Elvis called Roy Orbison The greatest singer of all time.
Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty MUST have written 95% of the music in this one.
Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne wrote this…Roy was there was Tom wrote the lyrics and chord structure…during the Traveling Wilburies sessions they wrote it together

In my very humble and personal opinion that man is the greatest singer of all time 🙏🏻
Crying!!! Listen to it if you haven’t.
Roy Orbison is outstanding - unbelievable voice!!
Yes, he was classic. Yes, he was great. Yes, he was unique. A rabbit hole worth following.
There is a video made just before he passed called "A Black & White Night" which has a lot of great artists joining him.
I don't think he ever did a bad song including songs he wrote for other artists the man was a genius with an incredible voice and a huge vocal range
Great one!!! Love Roy Orbison! The “Pretty Woman” voice. 😊
"Traveling Wilbury's" dude! 🎉
Roy, LEGEND!

Roy's best ever. Performed a month before his death in December of 1988.
I was 10 in 1988 and I recall my mom being rather upset at his passing. Glad we're still remembering 30 some years later.
Love Roy Orbison!!! He is a classic!!!
I heard an interview with George Harrison when they were practicing before recording and Harrison didn't really know him. When practicing they could hardly hear him so it had Harrison concerned. All the greats looked up to Roy Orbison. And yes, everything he did is a classic.
Purest male voice I've ever heard. Angelic.
You have to do "Oh, Pretty Woman"! And the songs "Handle with Care" and "End of the Line" with his supergroup TheTraveling Wilburys that also had Goerge Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan.
Roy Orbison..."Dream". Early Roy.
Yes, he's one of the legendary "framers" of the Rock Constitution.
Roy's voice was unmistakable.
So glad you discovered him
Chills every time I hear Roy sing!!!!
You need to listen to him singing Crying and also singing Crying with KD Lang....unbelievable

Roy was simply called, The Orb.
You'll notice his songs don't follow the typical verse - chorus - verse, etc.
I was only in my 20's in 1988, but I was listening to our oldies station and the DJ said he was just handed a new Roy Orbison record and told to just play it. The big "O" has been called "Country's only Operatic singer" but he's like Bowie he is a genre by himself, a timeless ARTEEST, what's not to love?❤❤❤

He has probably my male favorite voice ever. The range, the tone, everything. A BEAUTIFUL perfect voice.
Traveling Wilburys indeed for sure. Roy has that unique voice that no one can copy.
Saw Roy in
Augusta Maine in 1988. He got a standing ovation after every song .I am glad I took my video camera and my brother bought his tape recorder. We captured the whole concert. He passed away later that year. Greatest voice ever.

And yeah, anything from Traveling Wilburys, Volume 1. But especially “Not Alone Anymore,” which Roy sang lead on.
The first album of his I bought was Roy Orbison's Greatest Hits released in August, 1962.
I really enjoyed his music, and I loved when he was in the Traveling Wilburys. Such a beautiful voice.
He is and he will always be remeber as a Soul of Rock & roll!
The big O is my all time favourite singer!!!!

He was one of the greats. Gone way too soon.
My favorite by him. Yes those songs are. RIP Roy.
What a voice. As far as I know, all his music is classic.
I think that crowd at the end says it all, he was one of the greatest.
"Running Scared" is a huge and unique early song of his!
Roy Orbison he is one of the greatest singers for sure. He got a great voice... He past away in Dec 1988
Roy Orbison - "She's a Mystery to Me" even in the later years he still had the voice
His charisma and stage presence
Guitarist Pete Anderson said that Roy used to drink Chocolate milk and Coca Cola and smoke a Marlboro cigarette before singing. All things that singers shouldn't do, but Roy's vocal chords seemed to be bullet proof.
1 of my top 5 male vocalist. Wille, Roy, Ray Charles, Elvis, & Beatles. Thanks for playing.
i was in high school during this and watched it and this was my favorite song by him listened to it a lot
This song was used for the old Circuit City commercials. Whoever remembers that place. Pre- Best Buy days.
Target commandeered it, too.
I remember that. Bought my first Kenwood CD player for my first car in 1995 at Circuit City.
When Circuit City was the place that had twisted metal as a demo Playstation game
@@leonardwashington6456exactly the same, bought Kenwood from them in 1995. It was the best at the time.
Elvis said that if he could sound like anyone it would be Roy!
Yeah, everything Roy touched became classic and gold.
He sings so effortlessly.
K D Lang sings a Roy orbison song that will blow your fricking mind.
I’ve heard comments of him having a “5 octave” vocal range…. I’ve not heard a bad song from him!!! Thanks for reacting to this one
Roy Orbisons Greatest Hits.
Not sure if you realized it but Roy Orbison wrote "Blue Bayou" which you reacted to Linda Ronstadt's cover of it.
Brings back amazing memories of my dad trying to hit the high notes and we would all laugh. Thanks cuzzy.
Also KD Lang did a rendition of Roy’s Crying which is phenomenal. KD Langs rendition of Hallelujah is a soul lifting bone chilling tune ❤
I was thinking the same thing. Also love her Constant Craving.
Also like her cover of Neil Young's Helpless. Fantastic
I also liked her cover of Neil Young's Helpless. Fantastic. I think she filled in for Neil on an award show when Neil was sick or something.
Grew up listening to Roy, one of my dad's favourite artists. Recommend Penny Arcade and Leah ❤❤❤
