- 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor review by The Straight Pipes. The Maverick Tremor is putting down 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0L Ecoboost 4 Cylinder. At $39,585 CAD, would you take it over the Ranger or F-150 Tremor?

What’s the point of the Maverick Tremor TO YOU??
Nothing because I will never own a pickup truck.
Nice thumbnail, when did you find out you got a twin Jakub?
Jacob, what kind of watch are you wearing? Looks boss.
Great vehicle for those who need the truck bed occasionally for trips to the dump, garden center, or big box store but don't want the terrible fuel economy and relatively poor driving characteristics of a body-on-frame truck. I wouldn't take this thing on any real off-roading though. Unibody construction means you could twist that thing and mess up your vehicle pretty bad.
to sell trucks
I think it's the fact each manufacturer now has to have a rugged trim and "off-road" versions of each car. The Pilot, Telluride, CX50, Bronco Sport, list goes on. Plastic cladding galore and extra 0.25" ground clearance
Pilot Trailsport is a bit more serious than the others. At least it has genuine skid plates and underbody protection
the videos online show the tremor actually seems to be really capable offroad.
@@yissibiiyteand a very good torque vectoring awd system
I think it's fine for a truck, the pilot, telluride and the CX50 make less sense than the rest though
As if any of those ever do any more off-roading than running over curbs and then pedestrians
This size truck makes a lot of sense. I'm not towing a huge trailer, I just need to go to Home Depot.

Love my maverick XLT. The entire point of a maverick is PRACTICALITY. I drive 2hrs to work and average 38-40mpg if I’m not punchin it. I take it camping and fits everything thing I need. I carpool when I go out to the bars and fits everyone without anyone feeling squished. Nothing crazy fancy on it. It’s just a truck which is the best part. No extra electrical bs. I just need it to work, save me money on gas, and be comfortable. Which it is. If you wanna add extra stuff, the maverick makes it fairly easy and accessible for DIY. This is honestly the most economically efficient and sensible truck on the market, especially with the current climate of gas prices and the economy in general. Plus it looks great.
Is yours the AWD or Hybrid?
@@mrmr7843I’ll answer for him, he has a hybrid
Fully agreed, it's the Venn diagram mini truck that does everything you need.
While I'm not a Ford or truck guy in the slightest, vehicles like the Maverick are a breath of fresh air. Basically all trucks now have a comically large footprint and price tag to match, even before "market adjustment." Someone buying a Maverick is simply being honest with their truck needs and not spending more than necessary.
A majority of midsized to 1/2 ton trucks are going to be very expensive to run when you factor in fuel costs, insurance, monthly payment and maintenance. Sometimes all you need is a four doors and a small bed. If you want to use the bed as a trunk, a good cargo cover is all you need. I hope we see more like it from other companies.
I found my unicorn last year by fluke, and I am loving it despite some short comings, most of which I think will be worked out as productions gets better. I am excited for what this is doing to the market, I hope to see what dodge or Chevrolet and other competitors bring to the market for small to medium trucks. I wish I had the Tremor, but at the end of the day can't trade up the 4K towing. One of the best all round vehicle i have ever had, traded my 2017 CRV for the truck
The comparisons discussed at the end withthe F150, and top trim Civic were useful. Especially with how both of you can have a different point of view. It displays the train of thought a consumer might experience when shopping. I like. 👍
The only disappointment with my Mav is that it isn’t a 6spd MT. Love this beaut
I finally picked up a Lariat Hybrid that I ordered back in October 2021 last month. Great little truck, but I'm 6'2 and definitely don't think the back seat has much leg room. Two of me could fit in the front and back, but neither of us would be comfortable. Other than that, good so far!
Not sure if it's still the case, but the code to lock the doors with those buttons used to be to push both the [78] and [90] buttons at the same time.
Still the case! Do it with my Mav all the time
@@HEMi1995 Yes Myles! My channel also shows how the Settings menu can program the KP so that entering the code can unlock all doors instead of just the driver door.
@@fordmaverickmaniac That's a setting now? It used to be that you just press the "3/4" button after entering your code.
@Joshua Harazin You still can as a 2nd step but I like unlocking all doors at the same time.
Sweet, I was trying to figure out how to lock keys inside for hiking trips, etc. That did it, thanks.
I guess the point is for dealers to add a 10k markup? I gotta say! you guys always have the best reviews! so fun!
I got mine at MSRP in October 21 no mark ups. Not all the dealerks are d--ks
@@reiketsukan6669 good job!! thats great!! congrats
@@reiketsukan6669 how ? I'm not familiar with going to dealership but all I hear about is markups. Are you supposed to order the truck there, they'll give you msrp. and you just pick it up?
as an Element and Gen1 raptor owner myself, this Maverick fills in the gap between both in terms of utility, size, power. It offers a well rounded, daily driver, errand runner, with some off roading capability. Good price too if you can get one at retail. I'd strongly consider this if I were to trade down to 1 vehicle.
@nismo510 Ah, a fellow Scion X car enjoyer. My 2zr started ticking last week and I've been dying of anxiety, but she's been a good little runner for me over the last 6k miles so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I paid $32000 OTD for my awd mav 4k. It has done everything I needed it to do. I hooked up my trailer and carried enough wood to build a 12x16 shed. I upgraded my tires with all terrain 265 45 17 and does phenomenal. Not sure if a tremor would benefit me for my purpose. I can still connect my travel trailer and go offroad with it.
I got a 22 XLT FX4 Fully loaded and I love it!!!!! I've been offroading on it, had so much fun. I go to the beach a lot and sand mode is amazing! I'm soon installing a 1" level kit to make it the same height as the tremor and a set of K02's and that will be it! Perfect truck for my use!
David you should post some videos I will sub! I only have a regular Mav AWD I show. But what is amazing is how the street tires climb snow covered streets in Park City with ease. Your FX4 or a T would do even better.
I think the fx4 with the tow package is the sweet spot for this truck, since it has 4,000 pounds of towing, double the tremor’s, and is also cheaper. But that more advanced AWD does seem really useful.
I'm just so surprised Subaru hasn't remade the Baja with five seats. It would be a massive hit! City trucks like the Maverick, or the Santa Cruz show how many people could use a truck in the city. Subaru is already super popular with city people who have cottages in the forest, so it would only make sense. The market is there, the value of Bajas has not shrunk, and they still command a high price for an old Subaru, and that shows the name still has a pull. I think that it would be a great thing for Subaru to do. They could even make it electric!
They are basically a sibling of Toyota and Toyota calls all the shots
Imagine a Subaru trucklet with a CVT lol. Could work, depends on design and marketing. Would need good gearing, tough transmission, DEFINITELY a turbo since Subaru is scared to make a powerful 4cyl engine. If they hadn't abandoned the 3.6r, they'd have a great engine to work with. Yes, I have an Outback...
@@br9760 ublikely any of this will work. Cannot see Subaru doing this
@@br9760 Well a Maverick makes from 162 to 250 horsepower, and that truck was received very warmly. Hyundais popular Santa Cruz makes 191-281 horsepower. An Outback makes around 182-260 horsepower. I think that the output is not an issue so long as Subaru markets the truck to people who live in the city but want a small truck because they have a cottage in the woods or need to haul something like lumber. If it's small enough they could probably get away with not designing a new engine for it
Ah yes, the truck that people are still on a waitlist for…but upgraded so they can be on another waitlist
Lol. I literally called my ford dealership the first I heard about it, about 2-3 months ago. They said the orders were sold out to the 2024 models but they’d “call me if anyone passes on their reservations” 😂 no calls 😂
@@alecwhatshisname5170 lol I got plenty of calls a few days after calling like 4-5 dealers, but ended up finding a tremor , the same day I went out looking, some one backed out, I stepped up right place right time, but also, a few days later I got a call then like every dealer i had called ended up calling me back with a Mav. within 2 weeks.

I have owned Mercedes, BMW, Jeep Ltd and I have to agree with you. In fact, I like my Mav so much I bought 2.
@3:50 lot of ford owners have forscan (myself included for 2 Fords) and you can change a lot of settings, including the lights
It makes a lot of sense. For people living in rural areas, hikers etc, this thing is amazing
Because no one can afford real trucks anymore. The economy is a joke now.
Good. Normal cars are more fun anyways
Why are you mad?
I agree. Being able to obtain your dream truck, shouldn't be an actual dream. Biden is a joke, and so is the economy.
No one? Then why do I see new full-sized trucks everywhere??? Or are you just looking for a reason to complain?
F-series / Silverado / Ram are still 1-2-3 in the States so….no?
This is the perfect truck for a city dweller. The Tremor package definitely helps in the looks department, making it seem more like a truck and not just a car with a bed.
I have almost 50k miles on my hybrid maverick now and I love it. Great gas mileage and utility for the price. Tremor looks good but the appearance can be added aftermarket. Still the tremor is a decent price at $32k US
Does it have auto start/stop function? If so, can you turn that off?
@@GefilteFish.
The engine shuts off at a stop unless the battery is drained (but the battery gets recharged as you slow down). At every start, it uses electric only and has normal acceleration so it’s not like a gas only stop/start and there is a jerkiness. It’s not sporty or fun to drive and the CVT feels like a CVT although the battery assist helps a lot off the line
IF ONLY the dealers didn't mark it up to over 40k 🥲
@@GefilteFish. The hybrid must shut down the gas engine at a stop so the electric motor can take over.
@@stevep5093 CVT you say?
I like it! The less "frills" the better for me.
Just wanted to say, in Flagstaff Arizona we get about twice as much snow as you do in Toronto. Whole upper half of the state is more like what you think of as Colorado than it looks like Phoenix.
Anyways, I have a non tremor Mav and I love it. Lariat upgrades were def worth it.
I think you are right about the Lariat. I have 2 XLTs I show on my channel but a Lariat with the BAP pack and CP Assist with adaptive cruise would be worth it.
Plan on ordering a 24 Maverick Tremor tomorrow! Pretty stoked!
Tremor looks sweet but I already have a XLT, in that same Hot Pepper Red, with the FX4 Off Road pack on order and a build scheduled for May. Wanted to keep my budget just slightly under USD $30k.

This little Tremor punches way over its weight class!!! Pound for pound right there with my favorite pickup my old gladiator rubicon manual!!! This little truck is a blast!!! I hope for make a RAPTOR VERSION!!!! I’m all in!!! Great job boys!!!
Love your reviews from north of the border! My 2.0L AWD Maverick XLT should be in within days, and only now am I getting a little excited. I still think the basics of the Tremor package should have been part of the FX4 option. As it is, though, it makes for a considerably more expensive Maverick, but does still offer some great features for the price. Like others I have discussed it with, we're still not sold on the items brought over from the base XL model's trim. The extra money paid for an appearance package should yield something unique and not just different seat covers.
Just picked up 2024 XLT Tremor in Cactus Grey. I'm loving it so far. I'm taking it easy for the first 1,000 miles. It's perfect for daily with its easy parking, good visibilty and handles really good. Can't wait to take this thing on light off-roafinh and camping trips.
Ok Jakob, I see that Gshock full metal 2100 series!!!!! We’re best friends now!!! 😂 during the pandemic I collected the entire 2100 series, I saw this prototype before it came out when I was working with Casio in 2019. It remains my favorite time piece to date. Also, nice truck 👍🏼
Amazing congrats
Timepiece is a word on some solo isssh- no need to make it a two piece by throwing a gap in the middle. But I’m sure you been knowing that, being the wrist-clock aficionado you are! Maybe give highschool another crack, Super Man! Apologies. Too far.
I’m a big fan of the mavericks we have at work. Surprisingly well built, very zippy and has a nice ride with very little road noise, love the easy infotainment too. Only things I don’t like is the volume consuming the whole screen when you change it, also no cruise control in the base models. 😢
Yes I agree Jimmy! It is a little annoying you can't use the screen when volume, temp and fan are adjusted.
@@fordmaverickmaniac i find it very annoying youre peddling your channel w/ every comment.
seems about ideal for most who just need a truck for weekend stuff, chores, home depot runs, throw some bikes in the back, whatever. camping with a truck is sick, so much space and the tailgate is an extra table. personally get a lot of use out of ground clearance, 4wd, bigger bed and towing capacity so f150 wins, but i can see this working for most people really well
Awesome video! You mentioned the SXM app. Is it possible to do tune mix with the app?
No :-( I wish
@@TheStraightPipes :( you guys should ask them if it’s possible! It would be so nice to have
On the F-150, if you click the bottom two buttons at the same time on the keypad then it will lock. It’s so you can lock your key in the truck. It might work here too 10:24
I absolutely love my maverick! Lariat Luxury fx4. The only thing I really don't like is that it sits low. I'm going to lift it a couple inches and bigger tires and I'll be set.
As a maverick owner since October 21 (ie of the first round) the continental or the Pirelli tires are not the way to go. The Faulken Wildpeak AT3W tires are by far the better tires especially anywhere you have to deal with snow. I have 26k on mine and have NEVER had a problem. Mine is the FX4 4K and it has been UNSTOPPABLE I actually pulled a Chevy Silverado 2500 that slid of the road during a snow storm this year haha. Afterwards I drove off like the roads were completely clear the maverick AWD with faulkens will handle anything a normal person will throw at it. It probably won't climb to Pancake in S. CALI but it will handle everyday driving in almost any thing.
Did you use the factory rims for your tires or did you buy new ones? Also do you have any clearance issues like tires rubbing at wheel lock? I'm looking at putting new tires on mine.
I love the baby mirror in the back, we have the same one in our grand caravan lol.
Hey boys! You mentioned that parking on snowbanks wouldn't apply to folks in Arizona....wrong! Fully a third of the Grand Canyon State receives snow. Case in point, this past winter, Flagstaff received 168 inches of snow. Arizona Snow Bowl, north of Flag received 338 inches! Even Prescott, AZ, where I live, received 21inches this year (Avg. is 12" per annum), and we're only 90 miles north of Phoenix! When you come to visit, try to get around some!
Love the content , keep it up.
Great Review! I currently own a 2017 F-150 XLT, with the sport trim as much I love it...I live in Buckeye, Az, but my the company I work for, is in Phoenix, so my commute to work is anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 15 mins depending on how traffic is. Not to mention that fill ups can run me anywhere from $80 to $120 a week and that's just commuting to work and back home. If my wife and I have date night or plans with the kids, the gas bill goes up. That said I love my truck, but I need something much more practical in terms of Gas Mileage, but I don't want think I ever want to go back to a car! THe F-150 lightning caught my attention, but that's little of the price range I want to spend. I test drove a Ranger, but didn't really like it and Toyota's upcoming 2024 Tacoma, looks sweet, but I don't want to wait that long, lol. I was skeptical about the Maverick, until I saw one up close and after reading a variety of reviews on it and building out a Lariat Tremor on the Ford site. I'm sold! On the one hand I wish it was a little bigger, but then on the Lariat Tremor package, I get everything I wanted and more when I bought my F-150 XLT and for a better price. How is the Maverick performing for you 5 months out from when you posted this video?
I have a Santa Cruz the tonneau cover leaks like crazy during rainy days.
My mother just happened to spot one on a dealership lot and traded in her mustang for it. It's pretty nice. She and my Step-Father together have a Maverick Tremor, and a Bronco Sport Badlands, both in Hot Pepper Red. They look really nice parked next to each other.
I love my Lariat w/ 4k tow package. Even in Texas I use the heated seats and steering wheel. And the AWD is damn quick.
Guys, need your opinion on three vehicles you’ve reviewed. Forester Wilderness-Maverick Tremor /FX4. Need help deciding. I want one of these. Wife has an Outback wilderness and I have a Ford Excursion 7.3. I want something smaller. Thoughts?
The Maverick Tremor gives more off-road capability to someone who may go to the cottage, hunting etc, or for better winter driving. As an F-150 owner, I have a ise for my pickup which is mobile auto detailing. There are some people who want the cargo bed, light off-road capability but do not need a fullsize truck like the F-150. The Maverick Tremor makes sense.
What do you guys think of ford making a maverick RS? Using the 2.3 and a version of the AWD system from the focus RS. Or should they make it a maverick raptor?
Regarding TuxMat, the comments are turned off in their "How to Use The Clips" UA-cam video.
I'd like to order a pair, but I wonder about the clips and whether or not they can hurt the interior in any way...does anyone have experience with them?
Thanks.
Shoutout to your editor for that match cut in the intro.
If it had the hybrid motor (and decal delete) it would serve this point exactly: affordable daily driver, utility, gas saving, and weekend adventure mobile. I don’t need it to be fast, I have a second sports car for that. I need it to do everything else, INCLUDING GOOD MPG.
Are these avalible in Canada? I cant find it don't he ford website?
I love this truck I really hope they make it for a long time
Couldn't tell if you guys were trolling about parking on snow banks because i LOVE doing that
For real
for me the rear LSD vs open is why i like it for slick roads.
Great truck, was very excited to get one except every dealer was like $10k markup.
I ended up buying a Sierra 1500 cause I refused to pay the markup on these.
Hey.. what vehicles are you both going to be bringing to the Tuxmat event? Can't wait! Lol
It is a shame the Tremor package doesn’t allow for the 4K tow package. 2K lbs is barely enough to haul a trailer and ATV. It’s still neat, but I’m not really sold unless Ford makes a Maverick hybrid AWD. I’m just going to wait on the 2024 Tacoma Hybrid 4x4 to come out later this year. Hopefully is sips fuel but still goes off-road well.
I love the maverick it's perfect. Minus you can't get one. So I got a 2023 frontier sv in tactical green... For less than a tremor (after mark ups}

Really cool truck. This is ideally what most "truck" people need. If you need to pull a huge load - rent a truck! For 1/2 the price of a full size, this just makes sense. Well done Ford.
Most rental trucks are 2wd. Watch 2wd guys on a wet boat launch.
@korndawggy1801 most truck owners don't have a boat though
@@DrSwoose Also, most boat owners own a 4x4 truck capable of towing it.
An EV would be really cool, or a 4WD hybrid version... they definitely have a winner here. You can get covers as options from the dealership, no problem. If you can find one at all. Was looking at the Mav 6 months ago but everyone jacked up prices so crazy, and ordering one takes 6 months... so no go.
A 6mt and RWD and I would be at the dealership right now
@@angelsfallfirst7348 I think they've found there IS A HUGE market for smaller trucks! LOL
What's up guys I enjoyed this video I like this truck but could you guys do a video on the 2023 Ford f150 super snake street truck
My only complaint is that they weren't able to get a little bit more MPG out of this. It would have been a home run at 25-28mpg, but it's close enough as-is for that to be a relatively minor complaint.
It's a brick. The only way to get that is with a 3 cylinder which no one will buy in this model. See Bronco Sport.
Just stick to the old double nickel. Take the back highways. Everyone who does gets 28ish.
I wish I went Tuxmat... we're leasing a Maverick XLE hybrid so I went with Ford's floor mats which I regret deeply. Most of them are OK except for the one in the Driver's seat. There's next to no actual mat under the gas pedal, and apparently this is common with all Ford trucks because someone got their floor mat stuck and couldnt let off the gas, once upon a time.
Is this the price after dealer markup?
Also based on inventory levels-- a Limited trim Santa Cruz has more inventory available--
I love my little XLT Maverick !
I drive a mid size ute and enjoy it. But I miss my 90's Ford compact ute.
This is actually very appealing. very good weekend warrior truck.
Hey thanks for the video. I have this truck on my radar but no heated seats or steering wheel!? I live in Thunder Bay and it maybe a deal breaker.
That stuff is optional. Can get both on the xlt trim.
Yes you also get heated side mirrors and a wiper blade de-icer as part of the upgrade.
Improves the looks a ton.

When are we getting the updated Ridgeline review🤔
Good review, but I wish you guys would vet your tire recommendations ahead of time. Continental TerrainContact A/T are not available in the Maverick Tremor stock size.
Nice Casioak Jacob. Any thoughts on it?
Awesome
That price is not as absurd as that of the Bronco Sport. This is a nice, useable little truck that UA-camrs seem to have a blast in when they flog it through the corners. However, I'd be more inclined to spec a different (less expensive) trim and add an aftermarket toneau cover (duh, Yuri) and eventually upgrade the stock suspension.
The Sport has better capability.
I’m waiting for the ST version.
Idk if anyone else has mentioned it but you can get heated seats and steering wheel on the XLT maverick. I have it on mine. It's part of the XLT luxury package.
Right Nick. I posted some videos that also show the other 2 heated items most people don't realize come with the lux pack. Heated side mirrors + heat grid in the windshield to melt the ice on the wipers. No more smeared windows from ice stuck to the blades.
Affordable, usable back seat, and a bed size that suits most people’s needs. Seems like a win. 🎉
I love this because I have this exact model
I think this is ok for a small truck. I’m super happy I got my 22 Frontier. Please don’t hate me. The Ranger was of no interest to me and I knew the Colorado was going to be updated soon. Tacoma was too expensive.
Tuxmat nice my algorithms knows what i need lol
Door code is usually hidden under the center trim on a sticker
Dors lariat have adaptive cruise and lane centering?
Yes with the option called CP360 Assist. My Maverick I show on my channel has regular cruise. The Lariat is worth it IMO.
The "code" to lock the doors on any Ford brand vehicle with the keypad on the door is to press the last 2 buttons at the same time (the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons)
Yes, and the 5 digit combo can either unlock the drivers door or all doors. I show this on my recent video on the Settings menu.
@@fordmaverickmaniac Yup, and in cars with trunks and liftgates, you can pop that too from the keypad.

My mav was built today!
This truck is good because of the price. Ford has jacked the MSRP on the full size so bad over the last 2 years. Heck, option for option an identical speced Tundra a a good $5000 less. This hasn't applied to the Maverick yet. So it was a good deal when it released and is still today.
