A major winter storm impacted the Cheyenne area over the course of the weekend of March 13 - 14. As the snow began on Saturday the 13th - things began to deteriorate very quickly. Snowfall rates approached 3+ inches per hour and shut down the major interstates around the area. Police officers directed traffic off of the interstate system as the plows had to be pulled from the roads and vehicles became stuck. Numerous tractor trailers were stranded in the heavy snow and drifts as the storm began to take a grip on the area overnight.
After daylight - the blizzard conditions began in full force with winds gusting over 50 mph. Numerous pedestrians were stranded along roadways and were working to dig out or had to be pulled out. Several snow mobiles were seen driving the roadways into town and even a snow boarder came into the picture.
The greater Cheyenne area broke a two day single storm snowfall record with over 26 inches and counting as of this video post. This will go down as one of the worst March snow events in history for the region.

i like the guy putting chains under his steers like that is going to get him traction they go under your drives lol
I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that... I was like WTF!!! I'm sure the officer was wondering what dude was doing.
Yeah I scrolled the comments to see if anyone had already said it. If not I was going to have too!
Bless all those that must be out there. The rest of you, use a brain, stay home! The wind sounds horrible. Brrrrrrrr!
that I-80 corridor between North Platt , Nebraska to Parleys Summit , Utah is really tough during winter season.
I admire those truckers doing what needs to get done to bring the goods that people in the area needs to survive likewise to those who take it cross country to the other side of the Republic.
thank you all and also to the first responders. you folks make America Great.
In most instances the " First Responders " is Joe Blow who just happens to be there when tragedy happens . The ones that don't get paid , just sayin .
I’ve been hoping to be a trucker once i grow older and am able to get that job. There’d be nothing I’d love more than driving around the country all day and getting paid good ass money. And like you said, these people literally are the reason why we have what we have. If they weren’t here then we’d be having a hard life, so I guess it’s also for bragging rights and also doing the country a big service.
God bless our truckers and first responders who don't get "snow days"!!!
Amen🥶👍💗
Truckers can easily get snow days, just park at a safe place. No load is worth your life.
Northern, snow bearing States, don't usually even take snow days. All the years I lived in Minnesota we only had 2 snow days. And, that was because nobody could go anywhere except by snow mobile or skis. Then I moved to Indiana, and got almost an entire semester off school because of snow days!
Truckers don't risk anything but other drivers lives. They still get paid if they are late BECOUSE DOT shut down the roads.
BS.
ETA: Truckers cause more damage and injury to motorists than DWI. Think about that!
@@deejaydhillon8415 I never got snow days as a trucker. If my load was due 6am Monday that load better be there. Went through all kinds of bad weather but our loads were never late. You do what you have to as safely as possible. Some of my white knuckle times were from idiot 4 wheelers. There are some really dumbass truckers but got a lot of good ones too.
Don't envy those folks. Wish you all could be home when the weather gets so bad.
Please stay home! These rescue people have to risk their lives trying to rescue people! Tire chains tightened is a must!
I completely agree!
Message to our Cheyenne LEOs. Please wear some reflective gear when in traffic. Safe is as safe does 👍
And not white pants, please.
And be safe in Jesus"' name. 🙏❤🙏
Very good point!!!! You can not see that LEO with all those LED flashing lights!!!!
Great footage! We were without power for 38 hours and couldn't get out of our drive way or neighbors until the fourth day. 6 foot drifts that were 30 or more fit long of the heaviest snow Cheyenne has seen in 100 years.
I'm still amazed given the forecast of a blizzard that people would still be out on a Saturday and Sunday!
The truckers, I get. They can fill the tanks and hold up in a truck stop, the other folks, I do not get.
You think we have a choice??????
SOME PEOPLE DON'T HAVES A CHOICE
Nothing better do to 😅😅😅😅😅
The city of cheyenne put out a request for any with a snowmobile if the could shuttle EMS, Hospital staff, and Doctors rides for Emergency Services cause the roads are impassable.
Wow!
I have sincere sympathy for anyone who owns a little tiny "single stage" snow thrower .. during a blizzard. Grt Vid .. thanks!
The highway patrolmen and the police bless your hearts. I know it's their jobs but standing in a blizzard is not fun. People might think it's strange but I miss living in Wyoming. I miss those big snow storms when we were buried. It was exciting.
I miss the New England blizzards also. Was a volunteer firefighter and had a true 4wd to help in the storms. I try to go north once per winter to drive in the snow for a week and then fly back to Clearwater Beach😎🏝️⛱️
I agree, worked for a utility for 46 years, love the winter.
Stay safe, I don't think I could drive in snow, I live in the west coast, God bless these trucker and our first responders that do these jobs and placing their life on the line. Thank you for being there for all of us.
Why on earth is that CRST driver trying to put chains on his steer tires?
Retired trucker: i do not miss winter driving. 🥶
My husband doesn't either Charles I don't know of anyone who does
Awesome Video`s Great Picture Good Sound. from Florida learning about winter weather driving through your video's. We could not do this if ICe & Snow hit Florida. it would be Pile-Up. Thanks for this American Service .Proud of you Folks.
Yeah, FL here as well. No thanky, I will just stay in the heat. It's so beautiful but I couldn't live there! 🙏❤🙏👵
Came home from snow skiing and I was driving my 63 VW beetle. When I got home my street hadn't been plowed. Tried to drive through the deep snow to have the undercarriage lifted off the ground. The back wheels had no traction going backwards either. I put the bug in reverse and let the idle run as I got out and slowly pushing the bug in the tracks the vehicle made, do my best NOT to get run over by the door. As soon as I felt that I was free of the lifting snow. I got back in ok but had to drive my bug into the snow bank on the main road which had a large snowbank and leave her cold and walked home. As I'm walking home, I'm think about the drivers side of the bug could get wiped out and hoping that the plow would see her. Days later after the snowplows cleaned the street I walked back to my ride and she was covered in snow. Using my hands I cleared the dirty snow from her frame to open the door. Sitting down in the driver's seat I place the key in the ignition to see her lights glow but the starter motor won't go. The good thing about a VW was that, if you had to carry a battery home and walk the distance. A six volt battery is a bit lighter than a 12 volt battery. I charged up the battery got a ride back to my little black bug with yellow rims. Put the battery back under the back seat. Put the key in the ignition and back home we went.
Is it possible that I saw you on the highway at the time? I was drive a big sleeper truck and I noticed a black beetle doing sixty-ish mph down a highway a few days ago. Glad to hear you and you car is safe.
@@sandasturner9529 I was in my early twenties at the time and living in Westport, Connecticut. I would drive to Mohawk Mountain in Connecticut or one of the skiing mountains in Massachusetts like Otis Ridge. I'm 73 now and my skiing days ended around in 92 after a work injury put me in a wheelchair for over fifteen years. Lucky enough to be able to walk again with the aid of pain medication to mask nerve pain. Hopefully the person you saw is warm and safe.
@@sandasturner9529 p.s.. Thanks for caring about my safety.
When I see weather like this it makes me wish I was still trucking. Yeah, right!
No way is so dangerous
Come on hit the road lol.
LOL
I remember the snow fall going through College Springs, WY driving a semi. Not a joke.
I was stuck in the same blizzard. It came all the way to New Mexico. I was in my truck going over a bridge and the snow was so bad I couldn't see my hood ornament in front of me. For a couple of seconds I was actually sliding back and didn't even know it.
You all thought that was bad wait till this winter. I dread hauling freight this winter.
Sounds like a Ford. My wife's Edge Sport, my Explorer Sport and later King Ranch sang that tune everytime I open the door with the engine running. I had left Warren AFB in 2011 and haven't looked back since - don't miss the snow and wind.
Wow! That's amazing snow! I almost feel the cold just to look at it! Lol!
Even if here in Arizona is AA little cold now.
THE VERY SAD THING ABOUT BAD TRUCKERS IS THEY ACTUALLY THINK SPEEDING WILL GET THEM THERE FASTER AND GIVE THEM A BONUS WHERE IT ALWAYS ENDS IN JACKKNIFING AND BLOCKING THE HIGHWAY FOR THOUSANDS OF OTHERS!!!
Why was that guy putting chains on the FRONT WHEELS of the yellow 18 wheeler tractor??????????????
Lord Jesus have mercy on all these poor people, bless them and keep them safe in Jesus name, AMEN!!
Amen!
amen
I got stuck at the Love's on I-25 for 3 days during this blizzard, it was crazy cold and thankfully I just had my Thermo King APU repaired......traffic was stopped and stacked because it was too dangerous to go anywhere.
@Hello Michael how are you doing
Got a kick out of the snow mobiles and the boarder.
I live in Erie Pennsylvania.. i love a good blizzard! ….let it Snow!!!! ❄️❄️❄️
I pity everyone who has to live in or travel through this "Winter Wonderland Hell" !
Love, love this officer💖💖
Cheyenne, Boise, Salt Lake City... I was driving around these cities in Hard Truck game 15 years ago.
Been there, wasn't about to argue with smokey! Got hit with that storm right now!
I remember when Texas and the South had a bad week of snow and ice and everyone said the DOT did nothing to clear roads even though they did all they could. Well doesn't look like they are alone and WY gets alot more of this weather. Looks like they would be better prepared. Praying for those folks.
Wyoming does a fair job cleaning the roads. Add the wind to the amounts of snow they get, and they have their work cut out for them. No complaints on their services.
Love the town lights lit up during the snow storm!! Beautiful night time shot! Why didn't someone help that German Shepherd pooch???? You mean one of those really nice Chevy heavy duty trucks got buried but a snow removal heavy equipment digs out the snow paving a path for the Chevy truck, wow! This is when you need one of those truck lift jobs but it's too late when you're caught in the blizzard! One of my ebay packages is coming out of that snow hit region to the East Coast!
No way couldn't I deal with that ever again. Im staying here in Chandler Arizona.
I-80 was still closed this morning at Evanston. I was over in slc.
That is crazy. What is going on with this weather???? Everyone - please stay safe and warm.
how beautiful winter is
Your the best thankyou ❤️👀🌍
holy crap tire chains go on the back not the stears lol and if it is that bad get off the road no load is worth it
LOL!! I know I was like what is he doing putting chains on his steer tires when they only are for the drive tires LOL!!
I was looking to see if anyone else caught that lol
@@metalsmyth6945 that was the first thing that I noticed......
Lol! A little physics goes a long way. Still feel sorry for him nonetheless.
Come on man wtf putting chains on steers
I'm more surprised at how many people DON'T have snow chains 🤯
Great driving weather for me, but still must be careful and heed the warnings.
It's been sunny and in the 60s all week here in northwest Montana. I don't think we all even had a winter.
Tire chains go on the drive tires only not the steer tires LOL!!
There's a whole lot of snowing going on! It's Snow Day Kids!
i think sprng break stated early i dont konw if this is spring or winter
Guess no one knows how too use the weather app these days. It was posted since Thursday that this storm was coming but no one listens anymore.
They didn't listen in the days of Noah either.🤷
I just hope everyone gets home safe. God bless those truckers and may He keep them warm and safe as well as all the EMS and state troopers.
U don't put chains on steer tires use your head put them on your drives
I wonder who gave him a CDL lmao
@@trek6145 no joke
Left head at home, running on auto pilot.
We got a bunch of snow south in Colo in the same storm but not as much wind
2:53 On the front tires. Brain damaged
Wow! Suppose 2 B Professional Truckers! Haha!
That's Buffalo, NY weather.
Oswego, too.
))) лёгкая зима. я бы радовался что так мало снега, у нас бывает что снегоуборочные танки застревают....
I feel deeply sorry for who ever got stuck up there I was down in tx heard allll about it
Chains on the front tires?
Mexicans.
Probably thought that was his Cadillac. Didn't look too Mexican to me. Ignorance comes in all shape, colors and nationality.
Did you hear him asked the pickup guy if he knew how to put chains on wow I can’t believe these trucking companies
Hopefully he was just chaining up to clear the exit and get parked. Still not smart but should be ok. You can’t run like that though for sure, he should have had enough chains to get a couple drive tires too.
I miss a good blizzard
Why was he chaining the front wheels, They making semi's front wheel drive now a days?
Respect for those helping others but man I wish we would get snow like that.
And the snow plows aren't chained up? Must have forgotten how to get along in winter.
Well... its Wyoming, the snow drifts get deeper than the trucks are tall.
Makes me glad I'm an indoor cat now.
There's an old saying, it was nither fit for man non beast.
These road crews are really busy , never seen so much snow , I don't think this is over yet , it is still coming down , climate change is going to change everything we were used to in the past , give these road crew personnel a pat on the back , and the first responders , have some hot coffee on hand to warm their souls , God bless them for their quick action , and stay safe everyone !
Stay safe everybody!
This looks very unpleasant , Captiva life forever
This is real ice age
Semi driver doesn’t even know on what tires chains go, as if he has the world’s only freightliner with front wheel drive,
CRST; just get your cdl and get behind the wheel.
Embarrassing for “ Professional Drivers”
Yes could not agree more so under training and push there people through by paying off people to hand there students a cdl is bull shit
Seemed reasonable to me haha
Seemed reasonable to me haha
I thought he was installing on the steers so he could have steering control. Maybe not.
Well they should of paid for fedex air those packages will be way late.
Some planes were grounded as well. Cannot get off the ground in some places.
Frosty the snowman....wasn't so jolly!
Miss those days.
I was stuck in Evanston and had to go down to i70 to get through
I know it would be Super Expensive, but why don’t cities and highways have at least one lane using RADIANT HEAT ?
@Hello John how are you doing
You answered it yourself super expensive to install/repair and maintain
And then the idiots in cars would have no interest in staying their butts at home....lol
Other than the expense... every critter around would be trying to bed down on that nice toasty pavement.
In that kind weather those snowmobile got the right idea to get round
In Michigan we pay a snow tax. That way snow never falls on our roads 🤓🇺🇸
We were there what a mess 3:30 a.m. Monday morning trying to get into Walmart DC we left Wednesday morning DC not taking Freight 1000 trucks piled up in that City
That's a pretty mild blizzard.
....AND STILL NOT ONE WINTER TIRE TO BE SEEN, PEOPLE JUST DON'T THINK!!!
Winter tires are pointless in this kind of weather
I survived many Colorado winters in a manual Honda Fit with all-seasons. For normal people, it's about knowing when to not drive. When weather like this hits it doesn't matter what you're driving.
Dude, you need an industrial strength snow blower...
We never get snow this bad in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 would love it if we did i live in a little village with big hills at either side so would be great 👍 😀
NO WORRIES PAUL. THE MOUTAINS WILL BE COMEING DOWN UPON YOU AHN YOR VILLAGE REAL SOON. . . YOU HAVE EH BROWN, GREEN, AND BLACK ("chris-tmas") THIS YEAR LOL (💪😎💪)!
That was insane
That dude was putting those chains on the wrong tires
I don’t think the tire chains go on the front tires. Lol
Actually they do if you want to have better control steering. Gas field trucks chain up all axles in snow conditions, trailer too
also if you are going through the Canadian Mountains just sling some in the steers and it helps in controls .
when did they start giving crst front wheel drive trucks??
It’s not that much snow. Was it shut down because of the wind or something else. I use to drive school bus and drove in it pushing snow with the bumper.
02:52 🤣🤣 Putting chains on the front wheels??? How in the hell did that guy get his CDL??
So his front wheels had traction and he could then turn and avoid going in the ditch. Common practice where I live.
@@R.U.1.2. he asked the guy earlier in the video that was driving by if he knew how to put chains on. Also he is trying to go up the off ramp, he needs his chains on his drive tires.
@@thezirons I would think he'd put them on the drivers then....you make a valid point, but it's hard to accept that he doesn't know the function of the driver axles as opposed to the steering axles. I have seen and used that method when you're hooped and need to go straight rather than just pushing the front axle, which is probably sliding...it makes more sense.
@@R.U.1.2. for sure, chaining up the front and the trailer tires can be helpful especially descending mountain passes. I really think the guy didn’t have a clue though. I just rewatched and he also said he couldn’t put them on because he didn’t have rope?
It works on the front wheels of his Honda Civic... No wonder they have massive car pile-ups on freeways.
I never seen somebody put chains on a steer tire
Only Toyota land cruiser can go through that deep snow like a champ while others stuck and crying for help 😂
Calling it the night boys
Respect to those working and driving in these harsh conditions.
look, 👀
semies weren't going 70+ and slamming into each other. can't belive my eyes.
No, Matt’s Off-road Recovery did not send me here. 😁😁
Love the new wild LEDs the first responders have now
They could a bit bighter, so the space station could see them.
I only been to Cheyenne during frontier days when it’s nice and hot
Did you know that a little windshield washer will give more traction
Woodstove ashes work wonderfully.
The one thing about blizzards especially is the way people come together when the going gets tough, it seems like we are at our very best when things get bad.
where it is ?? state .. i'm in south lake tahoe, ca. and we have a very big storm all this wek and the other week we also have a lot of snow. stay safe and drive very carefully...
Wyoming.
good day. 400-450hp in America. 13L 6 cylinders. How much are 0 km truck engine prices? thanks
If memory serves, i spent like 5 days there, at that t/a before they got it dug out. Westbound, had topped off at sidney, and eased into lil chytown less than half an hour before westbound was closed. No staff in the diners, no way to get to work. Only one radio station operating, the worst storm in their history had shut town the other station and the tv. City asking everybody who had plows and tractors and skidoos to volunteer. 4 foot deep windrows between the parking rows, 3 to 5 between the trucks. weedburner exhaust kept fuel from freezing; its only good point! Fuel being carried to desperate trucks by jeepcans. Tried some different brands and flavors as stocks ran low, to keep from depleting my own diminishing reserves.
Overheard a driver telling his companion, think of this as an adventure! Now shut-up!
2.72 a gallon for regular unleaded. How nostalgic!
I was visiting Cheyenne when this happened. My uncle had a few snow mobiles like those guys were driving on the highway and those just about saved our asses when we needed to try and get firewood because his power went out. Hopefully another blizzard like that doesn’t happen again anytime soon.
I wonder how much it cost for a snowstorm? I mean people in Dubai by rain so I’m pretty sure snow storms and tornadoes are for sale as well🤲🏼
