For those without an irrigation system, like me, I find keeping your lawn at 4'' helps a lot. When all my neighbor's lawns are browning out from summer stress, mine is still going strong. I do irrigate when my schedule allows, but not like I could with a system. One caveat, if your lawn isn't that great to begin with, 4'' doesn't look the best, but if you have a thick, healthy stand of turf, it looks just as good as short grass IMO, and a lot less fussy.
Yes, taller cool season grass handles the summer stress with less water better than short cut grass. Most warm season grass doesn’t do well when kept at 4” except St. Augustine.
@@johnmininger7472 I'm only talking cool season turf. My lawn didn't always look good at this height. It took a while to get it to where it is today, but now it all stands up straight and looks good at 4''. Keeping your edges tight is important for the overall look.
Thank you! I enjoyed making that video, too. I have a lot more time for filming and editing now and I’m pumped to be back in the yard. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Ron! I’m really happy with the Barenbrug RPR, so far. It has filled in really well and I like the color of the grass. I appreciate you watching.
You are def right about grubs. I got them two years ago late summer and they made my nice grass into a big dirt patch. It was literally just dusty soil after they were done.
Awesome video! I enjoyed the little bit longer format. Very interested in the RPR project since I have been thinking about using it in the future. Keep the great content coming!!
Amazing Kyle. You have brought your videos to a whole new level this year. They’ve always been good but it’s off the charts now. Appreciate all the info and all you put in to this !! Thanks Brother !!
Lawn looks amazing Kyle! Good reminder to put down GrubEx I've had a bag in my garage for 2 weeks now, I guess I'll go throw it down today😂 along with some Prodiamine and MicroGreene
Good advice. In the midwest late May is when I start a fungicide treatment every 21 days with alternating types but I usually hold off the grub treatment until late June but probably ok to do now depending on your location. Strobe G has both of the fungicides you mention so it’s a 2 punch.
Try adding organic matter like mesh screened compost, milorganite and water with some compost tea. Fungicides kill all your beneficial bacteria that works to combat the bad. If I can have a KBG mono thrive without fungicides and have people pull over to see if it’s real.. I’m sure you can do without poising your soil every 2 weeks.
@@lakehouselawncare1755 No, I removed it with a sod cutter. I’m just saying fungicide is a last resort kinda thing. I see people throwing it down when their grass is dormant thinking it’s a disease lol If you take care of your soil your lawn will reward you handsomely. I’m on 3 years of mono Bluebank in front and have only had powdery mildew here and there which sucks but not a big deal. I top dress every year with screened compost, blast with humic soil conditioner and milorganite. Every once in a while Blitz 22 if I want overnight green. Worst thing I do for my soil is occasionally spot treat herbicide. Once lawn is dense very few weeds emerge anyways. I’m sure it’s a lot more of an issue with the way you guys cut your lawn so low that it needs to be constantly jacked on supplements. Just remember out of all the things you apply fungicides are the worst and most dangerous and that’s a fact. Last resort!
I have large brown or dead spots around all of my downspouts this year. Not sure what to do.. I raked the areas numerous times and threw seed down and fertilized. I live in Wasilla, AK.
@@lakehouselawncare1755 yes, wish I could post a picture here of it. I have had some issues previously around my driveway from ice melt but this is the first year that I had these areas around the downspout have any issue. The lawn is about 3 years old now, it was hydroseeded when we built our home.
It could be a fungus problem from consistently being wet all the time. If you want, you can send me an email with a picture of it to Kyle.colborn@gmail.com.
Minus the hat, another great video. Are you selling those shirts? Another great video. This was a LOT of new info for me, especially about the fungus and grubs. I added grub control to my Menards list. Thanks as always for the great info and awesome presentation. Minus the hat.
What would be a decent fertilizer to put down going into summer here in the Midwest? I know you probably want something with some good potassium and not super high on the nitrogen side. Preferably something granular that can be bought at one of the big box stores? I was thinking some sort of starter fertilizer like the Menards one which is 15-23-10. Been using scotts green max this spring which I love but not much potassium in it.
Thank you! RPR had been hard to find this year. I reached out to Barenbrug in the fall about my plans to seed in the spring and they send me a bag to use on my channel. Thanks for watching!
Hi Kyle how are you, it's your neighbor from Chicago. I was gonna ask you if I can apply the grub killer, fertilizer and the fongus product together? Or do you have any recommendations?
What’s up, Edgar?! I applied grubex yesterday, and lawn food/fungicide today. I’d just check the labels and see what the recommendations are for those products. You should be fine doing all 3 though.
I really like hydretain, and I use it in the areas that my sprinklers tend to miss. Also it’s great for flower pots. It’s up to you, but I’ve had nothing but good experiences with it.

I think that is greatly dependent on the type of grass you have.

Do you get weeds from pulling the nutrient rich water from the lake?
No, we get very few weeds that pop up, luckily. Thanks for watching, buddy!
I do see seed heads on my grass but I fertilized on Saturday....can I still mow?
Yes, you are good to mow. I’d recommend not bagging your clipping if possible.
Thank you for replying. I do leave the clippings on the lawn 😊
When should I put on the sprinkler system after 4 days of rain?
I take a screwdriver and push it into the soil. If it goes in easily, you don't need to water yet, if not, it's time to run the sprinklers.
I bought stress blend last week should I get hydertain as well?

I wish I did but it seems to be sold out everywhere
Can you put this on new layed sod
Good question. I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere. I’m guessing it would be fine, but I really don’t know.
Can I apply this with grass seeds?
Yes, most fungicides are fine to apply with new grass seed.
Is the pond warm in August?
It’s already warm, actually. We were swimming over the weekend. I’m looking at July 17 as the date to have you all over. Hopefully that works for you.

Fungicides kill all the beneficial soil bacteria as well. Not that easy to get it back.. I wouldn’t advise using it unless absolutely needed.
