Ants hate the smell of cinnamon so I just sprinkle some wherever I have ants on the property... it won't kill them, but they won't stick around that area. I also simmer cinnamon sticks in water in the cooler weather in my house for the pleasant aroma and then use that water in a spray bottle to spray around areas that pests like mice and rats might come into my buildings, they also don't like the smell. Just watched this 50 amp receptacle install video. Good job, I liked it. I put in a 50 amp receptacle 100 feet from the meter base, using aluminum #4. You asked the viewers what experience they've had, so this is mine. It's been in for about 2 months now while we are waiting to move into our house. Works fine, we have a bumper pull, 38 ft travel trailer, 2 ac units.
You can get an app on your phone for voltage drop calculations. I use them all the time. I'm a retired electrician technician. I did everything from data, fiber, interstate, residential, commercial, high rises, under ground, in water, TVA power plants, etc... The only reason i mention this is you can get apps to help with a lot of the basics. Best of luck
We used to get all those ants also. When you said you are from Florida first thing, I thought with the ants is the "crazy ants" we use to have. We had to bring in guys from UT Austin to help. A researcher going for his PHD was studying those ants and found that the best way to control their population was to introduce a certain type of fungus via other ants that already had the fungus...that makes them sterile and then their population crashes after a few weeks. Thanks for the reminder to wire this...forgot the neutral had to be there.

Really good looking repair. Ants love the heat that's generated off the components. Had that problem on the dairy. We always every couple weeks checked our pumps etc... and sprayed the areas for ants. When owning property, buildings and using equipment etc... nice to be able to do electrical and general repairs. Hope all the plans work out. We'll be watching!

30 amp is very simple. Only 3 wires instead of 4. A hot black wire white neutral and a ground. Run 10/2 wire if it's a short run or upgrade to 8/2. They sell 30 amp plugs at Lowes just for campers and the wire. You'll need a single pole 30 amp breaker since this is a single run of 110 volts, unlike 50 amp service that's 2 runs of 110 volt and thus the reason for the extra wire.
I’m a few years late here, but Bifen IT (or generic off Amazon) @ 1-2 oz per gallon sprayed on pole near ground and on ground couple times a year will stop the ant problem.

Turning a negative, into a positive is the only way to do it!!!! Sounds like it will be awesome. On the wire size, and as it's been said already, the length will affect it's capacity. But since the cost of wire and this is a temporary, I'd push it if I could. There's plenty of graphs/charts on the net to reference exactly what you need too.
6 amp is big enough for your extension wire. It’s a/c power not d/c. Also, the wire is typically always stranded in extensions for RVs. It has a lot less resistance as electrons flow on the outer diameter of wire so with it being stranded it can withstand a lot more kilowatts and amperage. Save your money.

#6 up to 100' but understand that length you will be losing a few amps. I know on a 50amp camper chord that is 100' it is #6 wire comes with a warning that anything over 50' is derated to 45 amp.

I hear you on the crooked thing, however my buildings look very crooked from the air. They don't run north/south or east/west. That's because I squared them up to a pasture fence when I first bought our property. I'll be putting the fence back in the same place so it should make everything more uniform.

I’m confused.......don’t you need to run a separate breaker for each 110v leg to your new receptacle and have one breaker mounted on left side bus in the panel box and one breaker on the right feed bus of the power box?
That's exactly what a 220 volt breaker provides, a 110 volt leg off of each side of the panel. You run 4 conducter wire to provide two 110 volt hots, one neutral and one ground. Once at the camper receptical the 4 way plug utilizes both 110s, shares the neutral and ground. Where most people mess up is running 3 conducter wire, two 110s and a ground, that's 220 since there is no neutral to share between the two 110s.
Yes it is, but the addition of the shared neutral is what utilizes each 110 leg for 110 volts instead of the combo for 220. I know you get that, just stating it again for people reading the comments.
Nope not just Florida,, I live in Georgia and the ants shorted my power pole at 2 separate times for my hunting camp where We cut power to the breakers off when we leave,,, what I started doing was pour ant killer around the poles about a foot from the pole and go all around it

Negative, one 50 amp breaker provides 120 volts on each side from a different phase of power. You also run a wire with both of those hookups, a neutral hookup and ground. You have a 4 conductor wire (two hots, one neutral and one ground) that runs to your hookup or panel. A 50 amp service for a rv is essentially two 120 legs of power that share one neutral and ground. That's why it's not technically 240 volts.
@@TKCL and what gauge wire should I use the guy who's hooking it up at his house told me to get 10 gauge to run Underground I feel like that might be too small should I get 8
Really depends on the length of the run. A very short run, probably could get away with #8 copper. Copper is key, aluminum doesn't carry the load as well. There are calculators online that will tell you length of runs vs amperage drop and suggest what size wire.
As far as that being allowed for code, I'm not sure. 50 amp service is essentially 100 amps of 110 volts. You can run a lot on that. For example I can run our 13,500 btu camper AC on just 15 amps. I'm assuming your portable ac is 110 volts, if so you could run that and a lot more appliances on the service that I ran. To be honest it's not much more to run a dedicated 100 amp 220 service to your home and that would allow you to run just about anything you could want, including 220 a appliances if you want them.

Should consider changing the square d and cutler hammer breakers to GE since the panel is GE

Here in Florida, rainy season is the worst. Ants climb to a hot dry area. Breaker boxes, points, feet and legs are their favorite.

It will probably be OK since it's TWO 50 amp 110 runs compared to the one 30 amp I currently have on our small camper.

We did #6 for 100 ft and then ran about 25 ft with the camper cord to the out let. Been living like that for almost 2 years. But we only one ac unit.

This comes pre made, so I am not sure. Every one in my area runs 2 gauge aluminum for service wire.

That's a double pole breake4 and all I'm familiar with for 50 amps. That's what I used.

A quick look at voltage drop charts says you should be fine. As long as it's COPPER wire, that won't work for aluminum.

Copper, aluminum does not carry anywhere near the current.
Just checking. I used #2 aluminum for my 100 amp service and didn't know if I needed #4 or #6 aluminum for my 50amp.
I used that same wire for my 100 amp service too.
