Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Sco broke a string and still kept it going a good 2-3 minutes after that. What a beast....anyone else would more than likely have tapped out👍

It looks like Scofield broke his high e-string in the middle of his solo. You can see him pulling it out of his way at 15:47, and then you can see the light bouncing off it several time from there on. Crazy, it doesn't change his playing one bit.

Drastically changing the arrangement of songs is a huge part of the tradition of jazz. If you cover a song and you don't do something radically new with it, then what's the point? A lot of really low effort covers in the pop world. If you go through the history of jazz you'll see a lot of this. Check Coltrane's "But Not For Me" or "My Favorite Things", or Ella Fitzgerald "A Tisket A Tasket". More recently, Brad Mehldau has some mind-blowing covers like Radiohead "Knives Out", Beatles "Blackbird", Soundgarden "Black Hole Sun"... the list goes on. This Prince cover is only one of many many like it. Check out the whole album Herbie Hancock New Standard.

The first time I watched it, I was hooked by the title of the video. After watching and realizing PRINCE was not in it, I was not offended, I knew what you meant. When different music fan cultures meet, especially young culture and older culture, semantics can become a small issue for some. Also, when an artist has a very strong fan base, who may not be great MUSIC LOVERS in general, they will be very critical of anyone covering their favorite artist. If they are young, they usually don't yet realize for their favorite artist to be covered by Jazz Greats is an honor.

First time I see Dave playing on a tenor guitar! This is another dream team Herbie has gathered around him. Top musicians having a conversation through the notes, solos and chords they play. Sco breaks a string... Herbie takes over... Sco jumps in again with his typical rubber sounds... Dave looks amused... What a joy to see and hear these guys play!!

sco was having some sheet music problems, I hate when that happens. So he is reading breckers chart, which I assume is transposed into Bb. So that probably put a little sand in the gears as far as making the performance really soar. I never saw holland play one of those acoustic bass guitars. It sounds pretty good, I wouldn't have guessed.

Forget about the people who accuse you of clickbait. The point of the channel is to expose more people to great jazz performances and hopefully bring them in to jazz through an appreciation developed via LIVE performance, which is the essence of jazz and almost always where every single person who fell in love with jazz can identify with the moment it happened.
So if a few non-jazz fan stragglers come in and watch this and then go on to check out Herbie Hancock or John Scofield or Michael Brecker as a result, how is that bad? Why do we need to be exclusionary and elitist in jazz?
Bring people in, why not? The performance already happened. The video is going to be up no matter what. So why not make a BOOM kind of title that makes more people curious or interested enough to watch it?
