Why is everyone always talking about putting helmets in the trunk? When I'm touring I have stuff in my trunk. On my 2017 and even my 1500 I had helmet hangars on the bike from the factory.

I have a 2019 DCT Tour and have put just over 56,000 miles on it in 26 months and I love this bike. I agree with most all of your ratings. My comment on suspension would be to use the Sport mode more because it slightly increases the damping and that alone helps the handling greatly. Yes the throttle response is sharpened but you get used to it. Great review and it confirms the Goldwing was right for me. I came from a 2003 Goldwing that I put over 250,000 miles on.

Yes, I will keep my 2003 Gold Wing rather than "upgrade" to a sport touring bike. And although I can pretty much afford anything I want at this stage in life, I will NOT pay the exhorbitant price for a new Wing when there are thousands of used ones available for less than $10K.

I too can realistically, generally, afford most things I would want at 67. So I did? I bought a 2022 Ultra Blue DCT Tour airbag, then had fitted to it, numerous well placed Gold Strike and Pathfinder LED lights to be better seen by distracted motorists. The bling factor is also a nice by-product. This bike not only looks great in stock form, but even better now all lit up. Most important. It rides and handles like a bat out of hell. Smooth, quick and sporty just like a like it. Nothing shifts faster more effectively than a DCT. Worth every penny. Love it. Ride safe and often. ATGATT.

Hey Crusiseman!! I always enjoy your videos and have referenced them many times in my research for a touring bike. This past year I decided that the Goldwing is the bike for me and in August I put a deposit on a Black 2022 Tour DCT that was supposed to have arrived at my dealership this month. Unfortunately I got a call from the dealership and they told me that the order had been cancelled. They offered to apply my deposit to a 2023 Tour DCT which is scheduled to arrive in February of 2023. I was advised by the salesman that a tire pressure monitoring system has been added to the 2023 model, but that is the only upgrade that has been added.

There was a major change to the 2023 that everyone skips over. The horsepower went from 90 to 125. Torque went from 102.5 up to 130. 0-60 times went from around 4.8 seconds to 3.9 seconds. That is pretty big in my book.

I put Centramatics on my 2019 DCT and that minimal vibration of which you spoke was further reduced quite notably - well worth the couple of hundred bucks they cost - and with 92K miles on my bike I speak with some experience...

  • @LTVoyager

I have never owned a Gold Wing and my only experience is a long test ride on a 2018 when they first came out. I agree with most of your review and found it well-balanced and fair. The only difference between you and me is that you are much more accepting of the shortcomings in range, comfort, tech and storage. I guess I have been spoiled by my K1200LT. I have owned it for 15 years since new and it just does the things that matter to me better than the current alternatives. I was surprised when both BMW and Honda took a step backwards in comfort and touring functionality with their new luxury touring bikes. My wife and I have rented K1600GTLs multiple times in Europe and the UK and just don’t find them comparable to the LT in what matters to us. I don’t much care about 160 HP in a two-up touring bike. I care about comfort for both rider and passenger, luggage capacity for our 3+ week trips and fuel range. I don’t need 10 suspension modes, fancy sound systems, or automatic transmissions, or 160 HP. Both BMW and Honda moved from luxury touring bikes for couples to sport touring bikes geared to the solo rider. Not sure why, but that is how I see it. I’d love to get a new bike, but my wife and I still prefer the old LT, even after nearly 100,000 miles, to anything on the market today so we will soldier on with it until it gets unreliable or too costly to maintain … and keep hoping for a worthy successor.

Hi Cruiseman, just traded my 03 Wing for a 2021 Wing and previously to my 03, owned a 1998 Aspencade. Anyway, while I love your channel, the reasons I purchased my 2021 are for the DCT and how nimble it is as I get older. The feather weight while twirling the steering at a dead stop, walking mode, and the ability to back up with steering turned, without fear of dropping the bike, is unmatched as far as I know. Everything else to me is just gravy, such as the ability to open side compartments while pumping gas, without getting off the bike. For bluetooth, my android phone connects flawlessly, while I no longer really need a helmet bluetooth. I like the cubby and honestly never locked them on my previous Wings that had been fitted with knob keys. The only downfall for me, is the way the gas cap compartment opens and lack of space to set the cap off-sides. Take care!

Nice Review, However, I have over 8000 miles on my 2022 GW Tour Model (manual clutch) and I must say my ass has never had an issue with the stock seat comfort. I noticed you said yours was boney. Mine not so much...haha. I think that is very subjective and I wanted to point out that the stock seat is very comfortable for many riders. Not sure about the paint problem you mentioned but mine is good all the way around. I agree with about everything else you mentioned and the part where I Love to ride my Goldwing!!! Cheers!!!!

When talking about how fast it is, I had to kind of giggle a little, I always ride my 21 GW in sport mode, even in the rain. Having said that, I didn't buy it for speed, and it's actually the slowest vehicle i own. I bought it to cruise and enjoy the ride, love the speakers! If I want brute speed and cornering performance, I can jump on my RC51. I do wish that it wasn't limited to 115 mph electronically.
Great review Chris!! I will say that in early January of 22 when I decided to start looking for a new Goldwing, your videos were the best source of information that really helped me pull the trigger! Got a brand new 21 and put almost 11k miles on it this year!

I prefer range close to 300 miles. Both my K1200LT and KLR650 have close to that. I was glad to have that range on the Alaska highway. I like to be able to ride a couple hours (120-140 miles) and take a coffee break and then ride another couple hours and stop for gas. A 240-280 mile range fits that well, but 200-220 not so much. I am still amazed Honda shorted their premier touring bike on both range and luggage. I was glad to see them correct the top case and am waiting for them to fix the side cases and gas tank.

Thanks for your honest review. I'm considering "upgrading" my 99 Valk to a 2016 goldwing f6b. But by this point I've put so much work into this Valk that I'm reluctant to sell it. It finally runs smooth as silk, fast as lightning. Other than newer components, maybe easier to find and a sleeker look the f6b doesn't offer any functional upgrades that matter to me. I've got google maps on my phone, I'm used to abs braking the manual way. My throttle is a little sticky so I've got a kind of cruise control (non-adaptive). When i stop for gas the pipes warm up my gloves giving me heated handgrips for 10 minutes or so. My windshield is adjustable (but only 1 direction) with a dremel tool and sandpaper. My saddlebags top-open so stuff doesn't fall out. So anyway, you can see why I'm torn.

I really enjoyed your thorogh review of the 2023 (2022) goldwing. And for all your comments, I completely agree with them. I think an additional comment as to its weight would have been in order, especially for new or inexperienced driver. You see, Chris, after having owned a 2003, a 2015 and now 2020 goldwing, I think the older version was easier to handle at slow speed as the weight of the bike seemed to be better distributed towards the back and not on the handles as the 2020 version (2018+) is. I find my other bike (which is a 2014 HD road king) easier to handle at slow speed than my goldwing. And for all of your readers to know...never, never make a panic stop using the front brake while turning on the goldwing as the goldwing will definitely drop to its side and throw you on the ground without you being able to stop it. Fortunately the small crash bars do their job in protecting the bike but as for the guy that’s sitting on top...well you better be well dressed with a good prorective gear. I always enjoy your reviews. Keep up the good work.

Bought a 2018 when they first came out. It took four or 5 test rides to make up my mind after purchasing the previous generation and trading it because I couldn't get comfortable. Last test drive at Schroader's Honda Powersports in Hendersonville, NC convinced me. For an extra fee the bike was fitted with a Corbin seat and backrest. That's all it took. I'm negotiating for a 2022 GW Tour DTC now. The GW Tour DTC addressed my concerns of my previous touring motorcycles. I wouldn't want a touring bike without walking speed forward and reverse, DTC transmission, and that smooooooooth engine! With the added highway pegs, Corbin seat and backrest it's really comfortable. Using a dry bag for a backrest is really better than any backrest for long days in the saddle. IMHO

I have a 2012 gold wing and sure enjoy riding when I can. Living in a northern state, fall riding can be cold. I know Honda has heated grips and seats but when will engineers design a way to use engine heat to warm the rider. Sure would be nice to open a vent and have warm air blow towards you to help with cold weather riding. Come on Honda, you pride yourself with innovating thinking, lets make this happen soon.

Lol, I can tell what you think of the auto start stop for Canadian sold units. I’m hoping that it is set to off in the menu settings and stays off… not have to be set each time you go for a ride (like my car has to be).
My dealer has a new 2023 in the crate but I’ve opted to be put on the list (first one) for one of the 2024. The GW will be my retirement bike and second bike in the stable to my 2020 FJR1300ES.
I had a 1984, 1988, and 1995 GW before getting into sport touring in 2005 with my ST1300. The Wing ceased to interest me until it slimmed down in 2018. Looking forward to the 2024 for next year and will continue watching your videos. Cheers!

Hello Sir, I have been interested in the GW for years now, and have noticed that Honda keeps adding more and more tech to the wing. I was wondering if they ( Honda) would ever consider producing a version of the wing that goes back to the basics of riding without all the new fangled gadgets that I feel aren't needed. That would bring the price down to a more comfortable level. $30,000 is a lot of money for a lot of people. Right now in order to afford a wing I am having to look at 1990 up to 2005 once you go above that the price get too much for me personally and the hope of a new wing is out of the question. Maybe I'm just too much of a penny pincher. I don't know may so. Would love to hear back from you about this. Thank you for the videos that you do . Sincerely , G.W. Stevens

Chris, I stumbled on your channel by accident when I was researching the Goldwing on UA-cam. Love your channel and content. I’m a early-30s Millennial. I love the GW. I don’t get why it’s called an “old man’s bike”. I think older men ride the GW because they have ridden everything else and know that the GW is the best.
My current touring bike is the 2021 HD Electra Glide Ultra Limited. I have been considering trading it in for the Goldwing. I read online that the 2024 GW, being the 50th anniversary edition, will have a slew of new features including adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, a new dash, and more. I wonder what you think of these rumours. Is it worth waiting for next year’s model?

Hey Chris, I know safety is a big issue with you as it is with me, I do wish you would mention more often that one of the only not back-lit switches is the horn also difficult to find in a emergency situation. A larger horn button or reposition to the top of the switch panal would add a amazing amount of safety to the bike

    • @danaszalajeski4416
      @danaszalajeski4416 2 роки тому +6

Funny you should mention this… Just today on my way home from work, I had to do some emergency braking in the freeway because some distracted driver decided he wanted to be in my lane. And without looking took my lane. Now I purchased an 18 Tour DCT back in August 2018 and put around 28,000 miles on it before I got into an accident and totaled it in November 2021. Then in February 2022, I purchased a 22 Tour DCT, and have only around 4,000 miles on it. So in about 32,000 and a little over 4 years of riding this 6th Generation Goldwing, I’ve only operated the horn a handful of times. In the beginning, it took a while to get the mussel memory of the horn location. I’ve hit the push to talk button on numerous occasions trying to operate the horn in close call situations. But over time I have trained myself and now have mussel memory of the horn location, I activated the horn during my evasive maneuver without even thinking about it. My thumb just goes there. I created a habit of covering the horn button when my spider senses start going off, just incase. But just like any skill, it takes time and practice to make actions second nature and automatic through mussel memory.
Keep safe, keep practicing, keep the shiny side up, and keep riding.

A couple of comments. I traded my BMW K1600 Grand America for a Honda Goldwing. I love the 2021 Goldwing DCT Tour, but I have a couple of issues with the Goldwing. I cannot find any information on if the 2023 Goldwing has IMU assisted ABS so I am assuming it does not. I wonder why on their top of the line motorcycle, they cannot put the IMU assisted ABS? Also, I think the clear coat/paint on the 2021 Ardent Red is soft. I do not abuse my Goldwing but I do "ride" it. I've noticed micro scratches on the trunk lid, around the power switch, and on top of the saddle bags. Maybe it's the red color, but I did not notice any micro scratches on my BMW K1600 riding it in the same mannor.

Since I bought it [Feb. 2021] I have put on over 20,000 mi. trouble free mi. and would agree on many of your criticisms . But overall that smooth as silk engine and DCT are in my driveway to stay.

I haven’t ridden a Goldwing since 2019. I rode with a friend down to Daytona Bike week. He rides a Goldwing. I ride a Harley. I rode everything they offered at the track, but Honda didn’t do test rides from the track. They wanted you to ride down to the closest dealership to do the test rides. They did let us ride further and get a better feel once we signed up and all. My friend believed I would trade my Harley for the Goldwing after the ride. I liked the bike, but not enough to trade my Harley. If I could afford 2 big touring bikes, I might want a Goldwing too, but I am not replacing my Harley.

It will be worth it when they start adding safety and comfort options. Some do it and I don’t understand for what. The Sport mode is my favorite drug. Boy, this bike never fails with the feeling of that rush. Just a sweet machine that got me so spoiled.

Interesting. It sounds like Honda's automotive side limits the Goldwing. Many modern motorcycles (including from Japan) have made major strides in suspension electronics where Honda (and HD) stick with ABS only. The 6 axis IMUs and the systems that are possible with them are truly amazing in making bikes safer, like cornering ABS, traction control, and automatic suspension adjustments. I have been a subscriber for years and like your content. I would say this is most critical, if not scathing review that I have seen.

I've been a big follower of your channel for some time. I previously owned a 2008 Gold Wing Trike, I have since sold it. The trike was just not for me. I am looking at a 2023 DCT Tour and wanted your opinion on slow speed U-turns and tight maneuvers. I've always used the clutch to keep the engine pre loaded and feather the clutch as I lean the bike in these tight turns. With no clutch are these maneuvers more difficult or is it a non issue? Again I love your videos and live in Hudson Oaks just off I-20 and know you like the McDonalds in Willow Park to stop on your way to see your brother in Midland. Maybe we can meet up sometime and ride. Take care and be safe.

a DCT with linked brakes sounds like a problem for me. I have a DCT Rebel, and I use the back brakes some during slow speed maneuvers, and front brakes would make me drop the bike quite often...I also would wonder how adjustable those handlebars are... or foot brake... I always need to make many adjustments for being a small rider. At 5 feet tall, its rare anyone considers someone my size for a motorcycle.

Is there a way to get the navigation map screen to remain or show back up? Or is this a supposed built-in safety feature that won't allow the rider to see the navigation screen while using the phone? • @EdwardNagel
    @EdwardNagel 2 роки тому

I have a 22 DCT Tour that I bought a year ago. This Wing puts all of my other bikes to shame... except for that seat. I'm 6'0" and 250 lbs. I can't get comfortable on the Wing to save my life. I did finally switch to the Ultimate seat, but that only added another 30 minutes of tolerable riding time. Say what you will about Harleys ( and I'll agree with you ), but the oem seats on my Ultra Classic's and Limited's were always much more comfortable than this thing is. That being said, I've done very few things to my Wing to make it personal ( e.g. larger F4 windshield, hi-mounted brake light, rider floorboards ), so I must say that the Wing comes from the factory needing much less than any other bike that I've ever owned. Oddly enough, after 50 years of riding, I do miss shifting, but you can't beat just twisting the throttle and enjoying the scenery.

I wish Honda would give more options for paint every year. I never liked the two tone paints. If they came out with another Pearl Hawkeye blue, I’d be at the dealership right now.
I own a 2018 and I’m coming across a few problems at 31,000 miles. Cruise control does not work 8/10 times that I try to set it, or resume it. After 20,000 miles, I finally broke in my seat. But at 28,000, one of the seams began to break apart. I have a VERY difficult time putting the bike in neutral from 2nd or 1st. I own a standard transmission wing. Sometimes I need to raise the RPM’s to 2000+ just for it to suck into neutral, or just shut off the bike. And like you’ve mentioned in other videos, the right side of the motor making the ticking noise since about 13,000 miles. Rough estimate.. and sometimes the digital screen will black out within a blink of an eye. It can be hard to catch but it does rarely, but quickly. The center compartment can be a pain in the ass to open as well. Only pressing on the right side of the button and nothing will happen. I’ve had the button to enter the gas lid release button to be inoperative at times too on long trips.
I’m only staring the negatives. This is a great bike by all means.

One thought, you might mention how a rider could improve your scoring for comfort (ie; seat, windshield, etc) using after market parts and note the average cost associated with doing this. Some of these things are easily corrected, but we all know that there is a cost associated for the improved scoring.
