Honda should include this video with every new GW they sell. Great explanation of it's operating systems put clearly and simply. Great job. Subscribed. 👌
Wow This is the one stop shop for all the knowledge you need that the saleman trys to remember to tell you when you pick up your first Goldwing. Fantastic Video thank you so much Cruiserman.
This is my second time viewing this video, it is so handy to refresh yourself with all this useful information one tends to forget over time, thanks cruiseman.....Javi G.
Hey Cruiseman, I just bought my 2021 Goldwing (manual shift) at the beginning of this month and I watched this video before I got my bike and several times since and I find this one of the best videos out. Thanks for sharing. I love this bike, but there’s so many things to learn about it. Keep up the great work.
All good info. The only recommendation I would change is for closing and latching the trunk lid. I do NOT recommend pushing down on the rear of the lid to close it. The paint/clear coat on the Wing is soft and is easily damaged. Repeatedly closing the lid in this manner will cause fine scratches in the clear coat, resulting in a hazy, or cloudy look. I close mine by pushing down only on the top of the backrest. This way you don't have to touch the paint at all to close it...
Another tip you may find useful that is not in the manual is that by holding down the Audio button on the center panel (console) you can turn the audio off.
As you can guess, I have an ‘18. Bought new in crate in 2019. Dealer did not go over ANY of these; handed over the key fob and said “Thanks for the business”. I soon after purchased your videos. They have been extremely helpful. I wish you would keep publishing more. You seem to have stopped? There are so many other topics you could cover IMHO. Nice refresher video for those of us already veteran GW riders.
Wow, I had a childhood flashback seeing that Trail 70 in the background at 2:17. Good times back then. Great video, thank you. Currently on a 2004 GL1800 and looking for the 2023 models to come out.
Good job. I don't own a Goldwing but I have to give credit where credit is due. Incredible motorcycle! I've always thought/wondered.... what if.... You get the newest models from each of the top touring bike manufacturers and ride them from Miami FL. to Anchorage AK. Which one would need the most/least maintenance? Keep an intense log record of each bike. I've always thought the Honda Goldwing would win that contest. I wonder if the top brand motorcycle manufacturers would like to volunteer to this challenge? Let them bring their own bike, maintenance crews, chase vehicles, parts ..... EVERYTHING! All bikes ride at the same time, together, same exact conditions and rest stops. Together! It's not a race, it's a maintenance test.
Between cost of maintenance and available sources of great info avail from you I pretty sure you have convinced me to go for the 21 Goldwing and not a K1600 GTL, thank you for what you do. I am sure I will get your maintenance videos when I find my dream Goldwing, be safe out there.
JR, I own both and while I love the BMW it has its own drawbacks. The audio system is horrible, there is no bluetooth in for the bike you have to buy the Garmin GPS Navigator as a bluetooth hub at the highly outrageous price of $950, then maybe half of the people get it to work properly. Mine has never worked, I wasted my money on the GPS since I'd rather use my phone for navigation anyway. The bike is very smooth, and very powerful, but the throttle is mushy even in sport mode and in higher gears the ECM only gives you about 75% throttle. A Bren Tune fixes the driveability issues, for only $650. I love being able to remove the bags and have a sportier bike with a comfortable riding position, but if I could only own one bike it would probably be the Wing.
@@johnfriend862 Thanks for the info. Many years ago I bought a Kawasaki K1300, water cooled Six Tour bike, and to this day it is my favorite tour bike. The 84 GPZ1100 would have to be my favorite sport bike. I must say I have not ridden since late 85 after hearing a good friend was killed on his bike but ready to get back into touring.
On the DCT model, by locking the handlebars to the right instead of the left, both mirrors can be fully retracted to provide protection from damage or to improve space in a tight parking spot. Also in changing the mode while in motion, rather than close the throttle before doing so, I find it safer to pre select the chosen new mode then close the throttle to engage it. If using tour mode, this will prevent the sport mode from engaging if you're after econ or rain modes ... otherwise it can take by surprise as I've discovered! Thanks for a very informative video.
Hi Cruiseman, I've been watching a lot of your Gen 6 GW videos. I'm in the midst of making the decision on a 2021, non tour model. It's a tough decision. I'll be leaving my very much loved, low tech, Kawasaki Concours. I currently own both the first generation Concours and the current C14 model. I'm getting to an age that long distance is becoming more uncomfortable in the Sport Touring riding position and with no cruise control. Well, the test ride is tomorrow, I hope I either Love it or Hate it, this is the toughest motorcycle decision I have ever made. Thanks so much for your really informative and thorough videos.
I have the new C14 also and haven ridden the 08 Goldwing and even going from that to the C14 felt like a cheap dirtbike. 😢...Get any wing '01 and up, 18+ is redonculous though a little smaller
There had to be some missed opportunity for a "Cruiseman" comment in going over the "Cruise Control". Come-on now. :-D ;-) I did learn from this video that I can have my windshield in the full up position to wash my bike. Yay! (Oh, my - Another Cruiseman Maintenance videos infomercial - You must be making a fortune on them... Well, actually happy for you! You found a good niche! Love ya, man.)
You wouldn’t happen to be in the Austin area? I noticed a familiar radio station. About a month and a half ago I bought a 2012 K1600GTL. Then Dream Machine showed a 2019 Goldwing with 800 miles. Being a previous owner and lover of Goldwings I pounced! So many things I like about the wing over the BMW. Lower center of gravity! Less clunky trans. I have a manual 6 speed. Especially going from neutral to first gear. The starter on the wing sounds more like a motor generator than a starter. Like a Ram 1500 with etorque. I didn’t get an owners manual so I have questions.
First segment about turning your motorcycle on is missing something that I discovered on my own. While the motorcycle is completely shut down, you can press either the front or rear brake and press and hold the start button and the ignition will turn on and the motorcycle will start. Pass it on…
Chris, a few things that either I've found different or are on the M6 models. My 2018 Tour will not engage the cruise at under 30 MPH. The reverse works very differently on the manual, and there is no "walking mode" forward. Finally, another way to disengage the cruise control is to pull the clutch lever. You did teach me a few things that in the 2 1/2 years I've had mine I didn't know.
The decision to prevent the cruise to work below 30 MPH must have been taken by lawyers, and I'd like to know their arguments. There are many situations where I'd like the CC to maintain for instance 10 MPH while I could spend my full attention to the road and its surroundings, and not focus on not going too fast, on a camp ground or a real poor road.
Another way to start the DCT model. While squeezing front brake, press and hold engine cutoff switch in the start position. Engine just fires right up.
Great video, extremely helpful and informative! One question concerning braking noise. I recently purchased 2018 Goldwing with 3K miles. I noticed under hard braking, a growling or wailing sound coming from front brake area. No vibration in handlebars and stops very well, just unusual noise. Any feedback or insight on this issue. Thank you!
Cruisman, I’m curious to know what area of Texas do you live? I’ve eaten at the Awake in your video and have had my Yamaha Majesty YP400 worked on at the Maxim Honda in Allen that you also show. I’ve enjoyed many years of riding on my scooter, but feel it’s time to move up, and the DCT Goldwing fancy’s my attention. Where would you suggest I go to make a purchase? Maybe I’ve passed you around town and haven’t even noticed. Thanks for your comparison video to the BMW K1600. It along with some others has me sold on the GW. GOD SPEED.
I live in Carrollton. I bought my last Goldwing at Shawnee Honda in Oklahoma and saved $$$. But now, with the shortage of Goldwings, not sure there are any savings to be had. If you do decide on Shawnee Honda, talk with Jason the Sales Manager.
I'm a new Goldwing owner. I found your video very informative. Could you give the brand and model of your luggage rack? To your experience, how much weight can it hold without damaging the trunk? Thank you.
Hi. I have a 2020 goldwing bagger with apple CarPlay. The trick with it is that you have to turn off the Bluetooth on your iPhone the. Then helmet pairs with the bike. Then you plug your iPhone into your bike and it pairs everytime
How are you doing cruise man? My name is Hollywood. I left you a previous message on a different topic but I’m watching a video on the hill assist and the gas to put on the bike. You are recommending 87 octane in your opinion which gas is best Gary Sunoco BP I live in Florida so we have racetrack 7-Eleven on my current bike. I always try to go to race track.
Note: while cruise control is engaged in operation you can toggle through driving modes (sport, tour, rain & Econ) and the bike will change on the fly what you choose all while maintaining your cruise speed
Congratulations for all your videos, it's a very professional work, well explained in details, it's not my language but I understand well. I learned a lot of new things. I bought your maintenance package a few days ago. I have a question about the grade of gasoline for 2018 +, you recommend 87 octane while in the Honda book it is 91, can you clarify?? Thanks
I have a 2019 GW 6spd . I've been through about everything you mentioned but I wish I would have seen the Video first . It sure would have made it a lot easier. Not to sure about hanging the helmet on the end of the handlebars. I'm afraid a bird might take aim at the helmet. Shame on Honda for the top box that won't hold my XL N104 Noland helmet without putting pressure on the lid to close. And I've tried several positions to close it. Hill hold is a great thing. I've done the hill hold for friends and my kids when they started riding dirt bike's, they probably didn't know that I would pull up close behind them in case they started rolling back on a hill. And then talked about how to control that issue. Thank's for the great video .
Helmets are EASILY stolen by thieves by simply using a box cutter or folding knife. NO WAY would I hang my nearly 700 dollar Shoei helmet outside on my bike ! SO, so dumb ! What was Honda thinking ! NO excuse for Honda not allowing an 800 lb 'WIng to store a single helmet in a side saddlebag. It just goes to show that the marketing folks, NOT the real riders, are in charge of the design of these bikes.
Here in Sudbury Ontario Canada the gas price today is $8.97 I know our dollar is lower than yours and a gallon is bigger but I think we are ahead of you in price even with those factors right now the price is $1.97 a liter
Trying to decide to buy one. I love your videos. Following your BMW review waiting for the last one to come out. Hold up on buying bike is my wife can not see in front of the biked, which she wants to, and with a bad disk in her neck it hurts her a great deal to be leaning out looking around me. (Says the back of my helmet is just not interesting enough.) Would love to find a seat that would raise her up high enough but then I do not know how far that would mess up the center of gravity on the bike. Any words of wisdom? She will not ride anything but her Yamaha Vino 125. She dropped her Honda Silverwing 600, the perfect bike, and now is afraid of it. My riding days may be numbered.
I ride an R1200RT, which is my third RT. I have owned two GL’s, but prefer the RT. My friend has a new GL and he has has issues with the DCT when going up steep 6% inclines…mostly here in AZ we have switchbacks along the mountain ranges
Cruiseman, I just bought a used 2018 manual Honda Goldwing . Im interested in your maintenance videos and was wondering if the Promo Code "20 Things" still apply . I have been watching a lot of your videos on You Tube and love them . You and videos are awesome !
Hello Cruiseman enjoy your videos. I can possibly buy a 2018 Honda Goldwing Ardent red with only 10,000. I presently own a 2015 Indian Chief Vintage. I would like to have more comfort and was thinking of buying a wing rathe then a HD or Indian my only concern is that I will maybe miss the v-twin. I know you have owned several motorcycles including a V-twin. What are your thoughts of making the switch. I know it’s a personal matter but since you owned several v-twin in the past was that an issue missing the v-twin. Thanks
Given all the warning lights regarding saddlebag and kickstand status, etc., I prematurely declared mine "idiot proof." You can't ride off with the kickstand down! You can't start the bike when it's in drive! But, there's nothing preventing you from riding off with the parking brake engaged. Except the red light that tells you that you left the ^&%$ parking brake on.
Looking for some info or advice, Im looking at a 2008 Golodwing, it has 123,000 miles on it, the original owner and very clean with a lot of add on, the bike can be bought for 5k due to health issues. Question is will I have a lot of issues with it and should I buy it with this kind of milage
Good info here, but I don’t see a link to the video of how to install the aftermarket tie down bracket you mention in the “trailering” segment… am I missing something?
Thanks for the video. I have learned most from trial and error and your previous videos. No negative comments on this. However, missed that you can add the AUX connection and see it on the Audio connections. I use my Garmin via AUV and have audio for GPS, MP3 , XM, and weather alerts outputted via the bike's audio... speakers or Bluetooth.
I have a ’19 DCT Tour. There is a connector on the bike for an AUX input that one can connect to an external device (GPS, iPod,…) that will allow for a wired input of the audio of the device to the bike’s audio system. One must purchase the cable to connect to the bike and allow for the device audio output to be connected. The connection end of the AUX wire on the bike is difficult to get to. One must remove some body parts and seat to get to. I installed my cable while I was installing a few other aftermarket electrical items. There is a video someplace that provides the instructions to get the cable installed. Honda should have made the access of the connector easier. Once I connected my GPS to the AUX input, I am able to go into the Audio menu and select AUX instead of FM, AM,….. The GPS audio now plays through the bike’s audio system. I can use either the bike’s speakers (which I rate as poor) or I can have my J&M Bluetooth headset paired and receive the audio via the headset. I rarely use the bike’s speakers.
W/O your video I would have been totally lost, Just picked up 2021 6 spd in MO. The dealer staff was had less knowledge than me which made drive back Chicago challenging. So far the bike as a whole is Awesome, but the shortcomings of Poor Radio reception AM/FM, GPS interface sucks & Nice seat to look at but brutal for 5 hours! Anyone have a Radio solution? Thank you for your videos!
Cruiseman - Your videos were so great I ran out and bought a Goldwing. I do have a question though, do you know of any great aftermarket crash guards you would recommend for the 2018 Tour? I want some extra protection against drops or accidental tip-overs.
I am living in Germany. My problem is that I regularly travel to the UK. Now, Honda in their infinite wisdom (As with most Japanese manufacturers) do not put miles on the Kilometre speedometer, unlike the mile speedometer that shows both. and the other thing is the dip beam of the headlight is naturally higher on the right, while in the UK it is higher on the left. So I have a sticker on the windshield with MPH to KPH, and I have to tape up the headlight so that I don't blind on coming traffic when in the UK (it's also the law). However, I do feel that continually taping and taping the headlight would be detrimental to the plastic in front of the headlight. Do you know of a solution?
Hey Cruze man, can you please put out a video on how to find and remove the ECU on the 2018+ Honda Gold wing’s. I know you have one on older Goldwing’s but not on the newer.
I have 2 comment, one you're pain that you have I have an Uncle that has the same pain on his hip. He put a ice pack on his hip and that takes care of a sciatic pain that he has. The 2nd comment is how do you switch between your 360 camera shots do you have a switch on your handlebar or do you do that in your editing process.
The different ride modes also affect the brake application to some degree according to the service manual, how much who knows but it is somehow changed.
Thanks for this video. I've had my DCT Tour for just over a year and learned a couple things. I was wondering how your fuel range showed 249 miles. The most range I've ever seen was 200. Does that reading take into accound the current MPG shown on the info streamer at the bottom of the spedo/tach gauges?
I believe it have to do with riding habbit. If you are hard on the gas will give a lower range, but if you ride slow and steady, maybe more eco mode that range should increase. It is always estimated and not the actual mileage you will get for sure. Don't rely on that. Just enjoy your riding time, and safe trips with open roads.
Incredible! Hands down, THE BEST Honda Goldwing channel on UA-cam!
Honda should include this video with every new GW they sell. Great explanation of it's operating systems put clearly and simply. Great job. Subscribed. 👌

I love my 2018 DCT even more after watching this! So many great features to make riding even more enjoyable.
I'm ready to go GW shopping. Excellent video overview, thank you!
Just brought my new 2021 GW home yesterday! Thanks for this video - it is very informative and helpful.
Congratulations on the new bike.
Great video CM. Thanks for all your hard work on these videos
Hey Cruiseman,
Thanks again for another excellent video. I will definitely be watching and rewatching this one. Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.
Awesome video ! I learned more from your videos than actual Honda itself .keep it up👍
Another tip you may find useful that is not in the manual is that by holding down the Audio button on the center panel (console) you can turn the audio off.
Hey Cruiseman, I just bought my first 2018 Wing ! Taking delivery tomorrow. It’s the Stallion Brown color . Thanks for the great information!

By the way cruiseman, you do a excellent job in the production and editing...very professional. Javi G.
VERY GOOD. All new owners should watch. I recommend people watch video at the bike and do a hands on learning.
Great video, should be shown at the dealership when buying a GoldWing

Thanks Cruiseman, very informative video, I loved it!!!
Love my new'18 wing. Just got Traxxion suspension upgrade. Love it. BTW dampening is something you do with a sponge.

Well done, Chris. I always learn something new from your videos.

That is the first I have heard about DCT issues on steep inclines.
@@cruisemansgarage he is taking the bike to the dealership to try and understand what happened
@@MWS1960 I would love to know the outcome. BTW, I am a big fan of the RT.
@@cruisemansgarage they told him bad gasoline in the bike. He’s had no issues since 👍
chris, As great as your videos are, This is by far the best thanks. mike
Cruiseman, I just bought a used 2018 manual Honda Goldwing . Im interested in your maintenance videos and was wondering if the Promo Code "20 Things" still apply . I have been watching a lot of your videos on You Tube and love them . You and videos are awesome !
Yes, that promo code is still valid. Congrats on the new Goldwing!
Thanks
Cruiseman u r the best. Thank u for all u do.
I like your content just got a new harley, that master clynder doesn't look pristine. Peace ✌️
Please tell me where to get the tiedown units to the front of the engine and how to attach them. I am going to purchase your MX video series.
I wish you cover earlier models I have some questions about my 2006.
Remember when the extent of tech buttons on a motorcycle were the turn signals and the horn? No, not even a starter button. Easy peasy.
Great job!
Very informative 👍

Can you elaborate on this? Not familiar with adding the AUX connection. That is something I would use as I’m not a headset guy. Thanks.
Hi CM. I couldn't find the link to your aftermarket tie down.
Cruiseman - Your videos were so great I ran out and bought a Goldwing. I do have a question though, do you know of any great aftermarket crash guards you would recommend for the 2018 Tour? I want some extra protection against drops or accidental tip-overs.
You were going to post a link to the handlebar helmet lock aftermarket system. I can’t locate it.
I don't own a goldwing but with this video I want one ☺️
Hi Cruiseman I hope you are well. I need your guidance : do you recommend the Sena 50S Bluetooth for my Goldwing 2021?
It is one of the best available for the Goldwing right now.
Great video. Thanks.
Very helpful video!
Hey Cruze man, can you please put out a video on how to find and remove the ECU on the 2018+ Honda Gold wing’s. I know you have one on older Goldwing’s but not on the newer.
That is covered in video #54 of my 2018+ Goldwing Maintenance video series. gw18.cruisemansgarage.com
@@cruisemansgarage Cool I’ll have to check I have your videos.
Excellent video!
I’m looking forward to buying 2021 in the winter. What do you think truly of that bike?
Very good information
