- So many of you have asked me to show you pictures of our beautiful hill town of Santa Domenica Talao in Calabria so Pete and I found some of our favorites and these are a gift to you.

Beautiful!! How far from a/the beach is your town?
We are about 6 km for the sea so we get the breezes and fewer crowds in Summer, plus the views!

There are several villages in Calabria to see. The best are in the inner land or on the hills over the sea. When you visit Calabria you've got to remember that historical villages are not houses on the beach but on the hills and mountains with a view ovet the sea. The seasides houses were built from 70s, so often you sea names like 'marina' or 'scalo' near the villages names. Those words stand for modern parts.
Thank you Birdie! There are some that date back but they were definitely fewer as they tend to be overrun by pirates if they were on the sea. But you are right, most of the homes along the coast are newer.

The Italian people in this village are so kind and welcome us with open arms. In one photo I recognized the iron work of the railing as mine. Then I remembered, Dianna told Antonello she wanted her terrace and balcony railings JUST like that in the car park. She got that, and your photo was taken in the upper car park, not off my terrace. 😆
