Great fix on the horn Steve. I think the engine seems to be running more smoothly. Remember, there is a felt bit that should be between the steering column and the stalks. Otherwise it will grind as you turn corners.
Amazing how a nearly 50 year old car roof lining is still in place, yet more modern cars just fall apart. Had an uncle who had nothing but Vauxhall Viva cars, he never complained unlike those who had Austin/Ford cars in the family.
Hi Steve, well done for finally fixing that pesky horn! ...in terms of the track rod ends ..when you replace them, cover them in the red rubber grease...it was recommended to me to protect them 👍
I'm taking a trip down memory lane when i watch this! My first car back in 1972 was a Viva HC. Base model with a 1256 engine. Painted in Starmist Silver i think it was. Ex demonstrater and only 11 months old! What a lucky boy i was! Eventually sold it to a old workmate who was running a 1960's Jaguar S-Type. That had started throwing out blue smoke so had to go!! Good luck with everything Steve. Every time you do a job i see myself there!
Thanks for your positiveness, its really inspiring and gives you the confidence to, have ago, leaking passenger foot well sorted and new pollen filter changed, nothing to most people but massive to me as i am just a carpet fitter, cheers mate 👍
Speaking about the rubbers on tje ball joints and track rod ends. My green one normally has a new set every 12 months. It just seems to be the modern rubbers are really crap quality. Waiting for spring to get the v6 screaming again. I got the twin stalks from Matt in Middlesbrough, I'll probably convert to twin stalks and go 2 speed wipers soon. Good vid and I'll keep in mind your shenanigans with the wiring. 👍
I messaged you after the last episode regarding the indicator flasher speed. I was behind an MGBGT during the week and when it signalled to turnoff the road its indicators were as slow as yours Steve!
hi you can buy just the rubber boots, beware of cheap chinese made though or just buy a bagful 'cos you don't need to have the tracking rechecked after just a boot change. great memories of working on HB/HC's in the 1970s
Having not long found out that hardwiring a dash cam can invalidate car insurance (permanent modification etc......) How do you get on with classic cars, and fitting parts from different vehicles. does this count as modification? Hate you to get hammered for that. Anyway Steve I'm enjoying seeing it progress, look forward to seeing it finished.
Apparently the rubbers could be replaced in the past maybe you could source the rubbers and replace them without having to remove the whole tre and lose the tracking (assuming you had it tracked…)
I've had the steering rack off in a previous video and one of the tracks rods straightened out so tracking is something I'll be getting done mate eventually unless I pick up some old school equipment to do it myself 👍
@@RetroRebuild oh well you’ll be getting feathering on the tyres with the thousands of miles you’re doing haha! I think you can attach canes on the rims and just measure each end of the cane and get it roughly right.
Never shared bath water, but $75 is a big deal to me. Heck, $10 is! I waffle about buying things off Amazon that are only a couple bucks... money is hard earned for me, and even harder spent 0_0
