I bought a 1998 mk4 fiesta 1.25 zetec automatic with less than 42,000 miles in dec 2023 and it was mot'd for 1yr... my missus passed her driving test in it in june 2024 and after 2 new tyres and a £100 new exhaust system and thats all it's cost for the last mot in dec 2024... She loves it... we went to have a look at a new hyundai i10 for her but she didn't want to let the little fiesta go so she stuck with it as her daily and its a great little shopping trolley... very little can ever go wrong with it and if it does it costs pennies to put right... all i paid was £1.000... bargain 👍

Nice video mate and well done getting your son interested, he will benefit from being involved and learning some car maintenance. Yeah as others have mentioned deffo start with a compression test on the Ford, youtube is your friend on best practice for that. A mention on the use of the colortune plug, probably best to let the engine warm up with its regular spark plugs and when at operating temperature install the colortune plug to have a look. I remember using one back in the 80's and I maybe wrong but recall the instructions mentioned they were limited to be used for 5 minutes or so with the engine at idle or fast idle at most, its a glass window in a combustion chamber after all. As for your grease gun, issue is likely air and it needs bleeding. Seeing your gun is new out the package, give it a helping hand, dissemble it and wipe a good lump of grease into the head and also the base with your finger and then load the tube up and bleed as per old mate youtube. I am a retired mechanic and I look forward to your weekly video. You are certainly going in the right direction and keep up the great content.

Ka 1.3 engine will drop in or cvh but you need the right carburettor if you want to keep it simple as zetec will be ecu and more wireing

Clean the plugs change the fuel filter drop of redex in the fuel and give it the right foot blow crap out them old fords do rattle thats just soot out of the exhaust it's just coked up it's not valve seals that would be blue smoke when running I would not be to worried

Those HCS engines where built with chocolate camshafts so usually tappety after about 20,000 miles ( the predecessor 1.0 and 1.1 were a bit tougher)

The best grease guns are the pistol type, aspring assists in pushing the grease out, so easy to use. Yours is a mystery.

No failures, just lessons.

With a new grease gun, the rubber plunger can take a few goes to enter into the cartridge, pull the plunger back as far as you can, it should lock in place, put your cartridge in and push it onto the plunger, it should be close to the end by a couple of mm. Screw the handle assy on, and push the plunger arm in, it has spring tension on it.i don't use the little ball valve, i just unscrew the top a bit to let the air out (not too much or the cartridgeshoots out., pump the handle until you feel a bit of resistance then screw the top back down, keep pumping until it reaches the end.

Also as long as you weren't planning on putting big miles up on the fiesta, I wouldn't worry too much about the poss burning oil, as long as it can MOT, run it! The number of those fiestas that buzzed about with a slight haze following them, especially on the overrun followed by flooring it, was probably more that than those that didn't. I was young once, and that's how they got driven!

The earlier fiestas had the pushrod (ohv)engine in 957, 1098,1117,and 1298cc versions, probably more slight variations on them.

Good bit of kit is a grease gun Steve, i had one for my Jaguar xj for the prop shaft and ball joints. 👍

On the Vaux - a newer turn signal relay will help with the slow blinking.

How many miles on that thing? It could be that the “oil” out the exhaust is due to bad valve guide seals. Maybe a compression test will help narrow down the issues. Hopes all you would need is to get the cylinder head reworked.

I think it may need an Italian tune, good race up the motorway. I had a Mazda years ago with worn valve stem oil seals. It always smoked after sitting at traffic lights on tickover. Yours doesn't seem to smoke at all. Keep up the interesting content,

Looks like it needs a good thrash up the road and back to clear her out. Starting it up and stopping it a lot without driving it will cause that. Loving the viva. I’m in the middle of building mine to 👌🏻

Are you sure it's oil coming out of the exhaust and not just sooty condensation?

Of course plugs are black, engine needs a good drive to clear it out ala Italian tune up 😊
