A beautiful tribute to a great guy. I am a NYPD cop who works in Central Park and a fellow comic book geek. Central Park is the most filmed location so I see famous people from movies and TV in the Park all the time. Kevin Conroy is the only actor I jumped out of my Patrol car just to shake his hand. He will be missed. But his voice will be in my head forever as well. Thanks for sharing your memories and my deepest condolences.

      Quite.
When I was a child & as a witness to a crime scene no less, I thought Kevin Conroy really was one of many BATMAN out there. Hearing him say, "THIS IS YOUR CHANCE." as I stood outside the same house where a child solicited me for prostitution as did a so-called adult in coercing me & genuinely pimping her to me in all IT'S emotional molestation.
I called the POLICE & such. It happened just behind DOBBS ELEMENTARY of Kansas City, Missouri.
It felt like he was speaking to me yet there were no devices.

I grew up watching Batman: TAS and remember eagerly waking up on Saturday morning to watch it. For me even though you only heard his voice he was still the definitive Batman. He was that amazing of an actor. Although I wish I could've met him, I feel fortunate that we had as much time as we did with him. He contributed so much and was so deeply loved by the fanbase. He really was _the_ definitive Batman. I had a dream to meet him, I actually sound a lot like him and I've been practicing my Batman impression (I can do Hamill's Joker as well). I didn't want an autograph or a picture, I really didn't want anything from him but to do the impressions for him. When I was a kid I didn't have a lot of friends, but I had the characters I'd watch on the afternoon tv block. I had heroic archetypes, modeling what it was like to pursue something righteous even as they suffered. They were brave, they helped me to be brave when I felt like I couldn't approach life as myself. Kevin Conroy's Batman was one of those heroic archetypes. I'm so sad, this man was such an intimate part of my life. I've been practicing that Batman impression for literal decades. I can quote his speech when he quit the Justice League word for word. What do I even do with all of this now? What is a gift even worth if you miss your chance to give it???
I wish I had the opportunity to show him how much he helped me. First Stan Lee, now Kevin. My heroes are dying.

He revealed he went to Juilliard with Superman (Christopher Reeve), his roommate was Robin Williams, he had an alcoholic father which gave everyone hope who experiences that. He defined what acting is, which was incredible. It was one of the greatest episodes of podcast.
His career as being the guy everyone goes back to for Batman, it's self explanatory. I grew up on him, he was my Batman. I've never cared for Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale , or Twilight. In (Episode aired September 15, 1992)
    • Season 1 Episode 10
"Nothing to Fear", was the episode that has stayed with me forever. Bruce runs into an old schoolmate of his father, it goes a little something like this:
"Your father and I went to school together. What respect Wayne Enterprises use to command, he'd be ashamed if he saw what you turned it into, billionaire playboy! Your father would be ashamed!" And with the fear toxin from Scare Crow on him, it manipulates him into believing it.
He sees himself as a failure. And he only the way he overcomes it, is the moment that stays with us forever. "I am not a failure. I am vengeance, I am the night, I am BATMAN!"
    -Kevin Conroy
He's not really gone, whenever a comic book gets read that involves Batman/Bruce Wayne, we hear Kevin Conroy. He belongs to the ages. His work with that character (of American mythology) lives forever. You will be missed sir, always, may you rest in peace. And thank you!

He was Vengeance, He was the Knight, He IS BATMAN.
Edit: Hearing Kevin Smith choke up is just as heartbreaking as hearing Kevin Conroy passed on.
I choked up too. Still does, he was MY Batman.

It helped me grow in so many ways, so many lessons i still learn from his portrayal but the fact that his voice made the lessons hit that much harder made the imagination a little more real. Thank you comic book cukture and thank you Kevin Conroy

You know when a certain celebrity passes away and they’ve had this enormous impact on you personally, seeing the news kind of makes you feel this massive gasp and sick feeling in your stomach. Like all the air comes out of your lungs and your gut feels heavy. I’ve had this feeling multiple times before. The first thing being when Lemmy Kilmister passed away in 2015 because he appeared like a god to me with his music. Kevin Conroy with the animated series, Batman beyond, the Justice league, justice league unlimited, static shock, the Arkham series, and the animated movies. This guy was the definitive voice in my head when I even thought about the caped crusader, when I was reading the comics or reading the forum’s online, or even the watered down children’s books in the library when I was little. It was Kevin’s voice. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I shed some tears when I read the news. And you wish as a fan that you could’ve done something, but after hearing his personal opinions on death and acceptance you can’t help but respect that and just want the dead to rest. But the impact that he had on the character basically made him into the definitive Batman that we all know and love, and for me now going on 22 years old it will be hard for me to believe in someone else playing that voice without wanting it just be a continuation, like Batman should grow with the times at this point because I don’t want to hear a replacement for Kevin Conroy, I want to hear a person to Don the cape and cowl like how Batman beyond was. Rest in peace Kevin you made my childhood

I think what will always elevate any story of Kevin Conroy as Batman to me was that he never seemed to outgrow it. Any other actor that took to the role always seemed to be bothered by it eventually, and granted they were always physically represented as the dark knight. He always seemed proud of the work and took it so seriously, which is probably the most Batman thing possible.

I knew Kevin would have something to say about this. Glad to hear about those fond memories, but also so sad to hear they had only talked just weeks ago before he passed. When Kevin told that story it felt like Stan Lee all over again. I remember the same thing happened with Stan, talking about getting together soon only for him to pass before they could.
I totally get what Kevin said about having that voice clip of Batman telling him he's doing good. I watched a tribute video for Kevin Conroy from a reviewer I'm subbed to and it included a cameo video a fan had that they sent to them of Kevin Conroy (likely some time during the pandemic) doing a little Batman voice for the recipient, but also going on to talk about his thoughts on Bruce/Batman as a character and giving a beautifully inspirational speech about togetherness and love. It made me cry, but it also helped me greatly in coping with his passing. Even in death, that man provided hope and comfort without knowing it. He was an absolute gift to this world.
All my condolences to the Conroy family, and all those whose lives he touched. You'll be dearly missed, Kevin Conroy. ❤
