Funny thing is Mark Hamill wasn't initially going to, he was done with the role. But when he heard that Conroy was coming back at Batman, he did it because Hamill loves playing off of Conroy when they were filming TAS

@Michael kiely In Arkham Knight they were alone, he said he recorded 100s of lines which was pain in the ass cause most of the time he was alone so he was not as motivated.

I’m in genuine shock, gone far too soon. As a life-long Batman fan I can safely say I’m devastated. I didn’t know the man personally, never met him at a Con, but I feel like a piece of my childhood was also just stripped away. Thank you Mr. Conroy for all of the memories. You are undoubtedly one of the great ones - the definitive and preeminent voice of the Dark Knight, our Batman. We take solace in knowing that you are at peace and your impeccable works of art will live on for future generations of fans, RIP legend.

I noticed that the last DC animated movie she voice directed was Batman & Robin in 2015. Is she retired? It just doesn't feel the same when you watch the later produced DC animated movies without her.

Andrea Romano is the reason why everything worked. She does her job well in directing the voice actors line delivery and acting. I noticed that the DC animated movies voice directed by Wes Gleason just feels different. It isn't the same without her.

I remember opening the pages of Totally Kids magazine (the Fox Kids based outlet) & there was a small piece on Mark Hamill & The Joker. I remember being floored by the thought that Luke Skywalker was also the voice behind the character.
It was such a signature/classic-sounding voice that felt like it was always meant to be & was in such contrast to his other famous role, that I still get chills thinking about. Yeah, Kevin Conroy & Mark Hamill forever, man. What a great time to be a kid & experience this series (and X-MenTAS) firsthand. Queen Andrea Romano! 👑❤🙌🏿
I found out Mark did the Joker's voice while reading the cast listing on the back of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. And I didn't believe it for years until I saw him on The Flash (1990) as The Trickster. He did the same voice a few times during the episode. That was the only way I was convinced.

Kevin Conroy is batman to so many, including myself. He has a voice as iconic as John Wayne, that stops you in your tracks and demands your attention.

The imagery of the show in season one was amazing. It captured the darkness of the batman. It's amazing how this show is recorded first and then animated

Batman the animated series to this day is my favorite version of Batman. The way they told stories, explored backstory and the incredible actors made this show excellent. Not to mention Kevin Conroy did an amazing job distinguishing the difference between Bruce Wayne and Batman. Didn't even know until recently Mark Hamill was the voice of the Joker. But I remember being blown away at how great he was at being an over the top villain. I only wish it had lasted more than 4 seasons. The level of detail and story telling in this series is top notch.
Every single voice actor on this series, not just the messianic performances of Conroy and Hamill, will be the default voices for these characters for many many years to come.
Kids will be hearing these voices in their minds when reading the comics long after anyone will know who these people are.
By FAR the greatest voice casting and performing in animation history.
All the stars in the skies aligned while lightening was being captured in hundreds of bottles when this show came together.
I will be thankful to everyone involved in this show for the rest of my life.

I look back at my childhood and teen years and I'm so grateful that I had shows like Batman The Animated Series. This wasn't a cartoon, it was a deep, heavy show that I still occasionally watch.

Romano's voice casting on that era's DC animated masterpieces remains unsurpassed.
Fun fact: One of the writers from the first season was Michael Reaves, an author who also wrote some novels for the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
Kevin Conroy was Batman for me, moreso than Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer at the time, throughout my college years and that show got me through some pretty lonely days early on. I am grateful to have had the chance to meet him at a WizardWorld show 5 years ago. Not only was he a warm and kind-hearted man, he was deeply appreciative of his fans, and even took time to talk to my daughter when we met him. I can't describe the chills I got when he got down on one knee, told her to close her eyes and then said, in that amazing voice, "I am vengeance. I am the night. I. Am. Batman!!" It felt like Batman was standing right next to me. And as far as I'm concerned, Batman WAS standing next to me.

Never seen pictures of Conroy when he was young, holy cow he would of even played a perfect live action Batman back in his youth. That chin though. Missed opportunity WB.
Along with the late Adam West, Kevin Conroy was the only person I knew as Batman growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s (I didn’t see the Michael Keaton Batman films until I was in college). My dad, brother and I watched the DCAU franchise from Batman beyond to justice league unlimited when they initially aired (we watched Batman TAS and Superman TAS through reruns, albeit sporadically). Hearing that someone whose voice I grew up listening to on tv as a child shocked me. I’ve never had the honor of meeting Mr. Conroy, but I really wish I had a chance to.

This is what so many modern day shows are missing, they can get all the voice talent they want but without people caring what is being done and only doing the bare minimum it will always feel as though something is lacking. This show was done in the 90s and as far as I'm concerned has great animation, amazing story telling and phenomenal voice acting. Something that seems to be hard to do nowadays which is just a shame really. When j finally watched this show form the first time I absolutely fell in love and always wanted more.
It is sad the Kevin Conroy is now gone but man what a shady he left behind and his work will still be over for generations to come.

I’ve only seen what Kevin Conroy looked like in the past 10-15 years. That picture of him in the early 90s standing next to a young Mark Hamill is very impressive. He looked like a real-life Bruce Wayne in his prime!

I can never get enough BTAS. This was and is my Batman. The Conroy/Hamill team is what made the Arkham Asylum games so great and animated Batman is not the same without them. Major kudos to Andrea Romano. She is a super star who has so many great titles to her credit.
I used to sit in school all day waiting for the bell to rush home so I could watch this when it came out. There was nothing like it at the time. KC and MH are the best versions of these characters

Yesterday (10-11-2022) The legend KEVIN CONROY died. I am watching this clip on (11-11-2022). This is not the first time I am watching this. It hurts to see one of the most loved voice actors who created the most perfect ,the most idealistic BATMAN ever pass away. Even though he voiced the character...he was PERFECT.
