Very well, there are many people complaining that these last episodes have been very chill but this represents the "calm before the storm". FIRE! This is what AOT is about. Good storytelling and dialogue.. The action is a plus. It's good to see everyone come together , air out their shit and focus on their common objective. The weakest things in the last 3 episodes has been Conny's side story (even though it makes sense, man is under a lot of stress and said fuck it lol) and the shots of branches in this episode (which I think just means we're getting fire animation soon). Next morning: Jean: "Reiner, I'm never forgiving you for killing Marco, I'm never forgiving you for breaking the walls, and I'm never, EVER, forgiving you for trying to use me AS A SUICIDE WEAPON!!!"
It wasn’t 2000 years ago, it was 2000 years of war and it only stopped for the last 100 years when the king at the time decided to take most of the eldians behind the walls.
pretty sure it was implied the marleyans were enslaved by the eldians until recently when the king renounced war and moved his people to paradis while the tybur family remained in marley
@@khaii1955 Where did you even get that? How in the fuck can regular ass people fight a "war" against titans? No 3d maneuver gear and all? Damn straight its 2000 years of slavery. 2000 years of slavery and death. You've seen the flashbacks how fucked up the King was. Marley only got the titan powers after Karl Fritz, realizing how fucked up Eldia was straight up wanted his own people to die, move to Paradis and gave the powers away to the Tyburs.
@@geraalcht it's still not for 2000 years of slavery, to be specific it's 1900 years of slavery and death for marleyan. Remember Karl Fritz isn't just one. the first King Karl Fritz from 2000 years ago was evil greedy while Karl Fritz from 100 years ago was pacifist. during Karl Fritz from 100 years ago where he retreats and build the wall and erase everyone memory is when marleyan fought back. so for 100 years Marleyan has been sending Titans to paradise island. imho, maybe the first 100 years, people from paradis island may deserved the punishment i guess but after that, the people born after those 100 years like Eren mikasa armin and everyone that has nothing to do with the first Karl Fritz shouldn't be punish
“We wanted to wipe out everyone living on Paradis island.” This is also genocide. It’s heartbreaking that they made these kids kill their own ppl. No one talks about this because Paradis is just one island but to Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean and everyone else, it was their WORLD. They knew nothing outside of those walls.
Not to mention the rest of the world held a grudge for 2000 years. If you have that long of a cease fire, and then one attacks. Those who attacked started the war. The world poked the bear, no the dragon, and now that the dragon is awake. It’s going to be scorched earth. I feel bad for the innocent lives, but at the same time it’s honestly what the world deserves. The Eldians chose to stay isolated on the island. They chose to cease fire for peace, out of kindness. They could have wiped out the world but chose to be civilized. Where did that kindness get them? How was their mercy repaid? “Fool me once shame on you, fool me once you can’t fool me again”-George Bush
It's good for Reiner and Jean to talked about Marco and resolved their grudge, but what about Levi? The girl who massacred his entire squad (Petra, Eld, Oluo, and Gunther) is standing right in front of him, yet he doesn't say a single thing, because he's already used to hide his feeling
I agree! She did some horrible things as well. I'm still mad about what she did to the original Levi squad. He's kind of messed up, so I don't know if he could do anything, besides his focus is on Zeke.
Levi has always been the type of dude to put the mission first. Remember in season 1 when levi and mikasa took eren back from annie and levi specifically tells mikasa to focus on the mission (retrieve eren) rather than try to kill annie then and there
Some people forget, but the Eldian empire only ended around a century ago when the 145th king left to Paradis. Ymir only existed 2000 years ago, but the Empire lasted from then to around ~90 years ago. Magath most likely would have been affected by the Eldian Empire as a child through his parents or grandparents, creating that resentment.
He still cant use the 2000 years card since the king already left The marleyan already said it, their main purpose is to get their resources and titans...... not revenge
I really liked the little detail of the pot boiling during Jean and Magath’s conversation, showing that the argument was heating up while the stew was heating up.
there are lot of symbolic shot here too. trees = children of the forest dead branches = heated conversation between Jean and Magath that branches out to pointless result clear sky = see beyond hatred and look at the big picture.
13:45 To Marely's point it wasn't just 2000 years ago though. It was *for* 2000 years. The Eldian rule ended *~100 years ago* when the walls were built. For reference, slavery ended in the US *~150* years ago and the effects of it are still felt to this day. That doesn't justify Marley basically replacing Eldia and conquering everywhere and attacking the Island at all, but Marleyans aren't being as ridiculous as Jean and Hange are making Magath sound.
The difference is the Marleyans know the history and want to repeat the cycle of violence and hatred even though they now have it good. They're safe and in control yet still want to wipe out the eldians and go to war. Erin, while what he's doing is wrong, is doing this as a form of defence. They broke down the walls, they attacked, they recruited the rest of the world to wipe out the people of paradis Island
@@toosweetsenpai Willy Tyburs speech happened because Eren and Zeke wanted it to happen. Zeke is the one who recruited Willy to convince the world to ally with Marley, after convincing the Marleyan leadership to keep focusing on taking over Paradis Island

@@Vinsmokesanji790 I agree that they shouldn't punish others for the actions of their ancestors. Whether you like him or not, Floch going from a character who was too scared to stand up and fight to someone literally willing to take on 2 Ackerman's and several Titan shifters is wild and amazing character development. He's pretty much the Leader when Eren isn't around, and he could've just sent someone else to keep things under control. But he decided to come to the front lines himself because he believes in this mission *THAT* much. And Yelena just calling everyone out individually was pretty top tier too. This lady has no chill. They tried to call her out so she pulled out the receipts and called everyone else out too.
He's a cult leader of a racist organization, literally saying "we can make you honorary eldians" as if Marleyans didn't do just that. He's the guaranteed continue of a hatred cycle. I don't have to say anything else.

The Eldian empire did not start and end 2000 years ago. It started 2000 years ago and lasted for 2000 years. So the Eldian empire has only been gone for a little over 100 years when King Fritz built the walls. It's possible that at his age. Magath could have known someone (grandmother or some old person) who was alive when the Eldian empire was still around.
@@marleymarsss Yes and no. No in that the fight was over so they had no reason to attack but yes in that it was only 100 years compared to 2000. That is not a long time at all, especially in terms of history since (if we’re going by real world standards) the Earth has been around for much, much longer. @@marleymarsss While the anime did mention it, the manga went into a little more detail about exactly why after 100 years Marley decided to attack Paradis. That yes, Marley had control of 7 of the 9 Titans, but the government of Marley was aware technological development was going to relatively soon make Titan powers obsolete, which would threaten Marley’s current power (which relied on the Titan powers, both shifters and pure). But the island of Paradis was extremely rich in natural resources (recall the Azumibito’s mentioning that the ODM gear utilizes said natural resources) and Marley wanted to annex Paradis in order to get access to said natural resources in order to maintain their dominance in the near future. But the Marley brass figured in order to annex Paradis, regardless of whether the King in the Wall’s threat was a bluff or not, they would need to capture and obtain the Founding Titan in order to be able to annex Paradis securely. Basically Marley’s long term ultimate goal was after fantasy-oil, not more Titan powers itself.

5:39 Yikes, I disagree with that sentiment and Jerry. While you guys have a little bit of a point, there is still nuance to be hand. I don't think you guys would agree with that same logic if a white person told y'all "Don't talk to me about slavery something YOU ain't experience". Conversations are important and dismissing someones point so easily leads to problems and defeats the purpose of the conversation in the first place.
I mean I agree with the fact that even though they didn’t go through slavery they can still be affected by the history but it’s being used in the sense to be like “oh nah y’all started it first that gives me the right to oppress your people and come and destroy your race”. If a white person were to say that it’s obviously wrong but that same white person isn’t currently being treated like how eldians are in the Attack on Titan.

Why does Jerry keep talking about unimportant things? The point of the show is to stop hating, not to hate certain characters all the time. Who VS who will win is not the point. Too much negative energy. It's just that too many people watch this show with this way of thinking so they don't like the ending. This is not the purpose of the author.

Yeah I think Reiner was doing that to punish himself. He finally admitted out loud to the people it affected and to himself. He took those hits because he didn’t know how else to atone for it.
For once I wholeheartedly agree with him, sure, he made a mistake on how long Marley suffered at the hands of the Eldian Empire, but he's right in that people should not be punished for the sins of their ancestors, that's what Gabi's character development was all about after all.
Even with the stew metaphor being kinda on the nose, they did such a good job with this episode. I remember it feeling a little rushed in the manga, but the pacing here was great - everyone coming to a desperate alliance feels more earned.
Another great episode imo! The hange scene with the dead scouts, the conversation in the forest with all of them! Floch being a menace at the end👀 also gabi as a character is great! The character development is fire
10:44 100 years ago by the way. this all started 2,000 years ago, and the entire world(including Marlay) was terrorized and slaughtered by the Eldians, it "kind of ended" about 100 years ago which is when the 3 walls in Paradi Island were formed. Although the people who lived and witnessed those horrific times may no longer be alive, those knowledge and stories had probably passed down to the next generations. I think, Magath might be one of 1st generations that learnt those history.
When annie said: "are you not apologizing with me too?" I also read "are you gonna try to kick my ass like Reiner's?" And Jean in his mind: hell no, Im gonna die if I try it
Ay not that it makes too much of a difference but Marley wasnt oppressed 2000 years ago they were oppressed for 2000 years....the war only ended 100 years ago.
When did Annie beat Mikasa in season 1? That fight they had in Erens flashback when he fought Reiner? Isayama said in a interview that fight was broken up and if you mean the fight at the end of season one where she was knocked down for a moment then got back up isn’t a win.

My initial point was that I figure all the Eldians from Paradis (at least the Scouts) know the correct history. Not all of it, ofc, but at least enough to know that those 100 years that wall Maria was never breached by titans was the time span from the end of the Eldian Empire to now. With all the scouting they'd done to prepare to seek peace with the outside world, they must've known that much just by hearing the world's argument against them or by getting their hands on a history book.
I wonder how do these guys feel about people in America still talking about slavery? For Marley they spent 1900 years under the rule of Eldia and not until the end of the Great Titan War were they free. This means that the oldest Marleyans (the elderly) literally had parents or grandparents that experienced what it was like. They passed that trauma and hatred onto the next generation. Also, did Jerry just compare Levi and Mikasa to imply that just because she's an Ackerman she's on his level? She's one of the strongest in the show, but Levi is/was on a completely different level. But the island of Paradis was extremely rich in natural resources (recall the Azumibito’s mentioning that the ODM gear utilizes said natural resources) and Marley wanted to annex Paradis in order to get access to said natural resources in order to maintain their dominance in the near future. Ppl really think 100 years behind the walls compares to centuries of suffering, wat Marley n other nations went thru by Eldians didn’t end 2,000 years ago, it started 2,000 years ago it didn’t end until recently about 100 years ago wen the king fled n made the walls/ ppl say “o look it’s the consequences of your actions” to Marley but smh think that doesn’t apply to Eldia.Eldians r suffering the consequences of their ancestors actions bc somone has to pay lmao, everyone n this show has their sins, sum more than others but I jus hate wen ppl say Eldians r completely innocent n their not lmao, they r the worst n terms of history in AOT, yes the ppl within the walls didn’t do anything wrong but neither did those millions of Marleyans and other nations conquered by Eldia, it’s all a huge back n fourth started by asshole king fritz
Bro stfu with the victim mentality doesn’t really matter if it happened 100 years ago what matters is it wasn’t any of the eldians today that did it quit being empathetic to racists who seek pleasure in the extinction of a race that wasn’t even bothering you and yeah marley does deserve it because the current marlian government and it’s people along with the rest of the world are all hateful individuals who hate eldians and wish for their deaths
You can't do anything bro.
This show is doing a good job in expressing how different people have different mentalities.
You yourself can find so many examples in this comment section.
@@keytendegraef982 The Marlyians are making sure they are not victims anymore.
@@smylegalaxy2810 Ik that lmao I simply explained how their thinking is flawed as my point is it “goes both ways” so iam talking to the ppl who believe Eldians r completely innocent, Ik I can’t change all their minds/mentalities but I can still explain the hypocrisy behind it all bc n this show every side is right/wrong n their own way
@@keytendegraef982 Thats mad disrespectful lmao, but anyway Iam empathetic to both sides which is y Iam defending Marley rn, bc for sum reason most ppl believe Eldia is completely right and innocent but they are clearly not
So basically everyone has done wrong before but in reality genocide itself is wrong and can’t really be an answer that can be justified even tho in Eren’s mind it’s the only way the way I see it is that as Eren’s friends Mikasa and Armin feel they have to try and do something to stop Eren or change his mind even if it seems impossible but Annie is right in questioning if they would be willing to go all the way and with this point I agree with Rob (for once) that Mikasa truly cares about Eren that she would be the one to put him down if it really comes to it
when wilkins said fuck reiner ain’t no words more true
yall real ones for keeping that in the beginning if it was organic
Floch a real one
Those 2000 years of titan domination ended about 110 years ago. Tbh, when Jean basically told Magath to "get over it", I cringed a bit.
I mean well to be fair they kinda wiped all their memories and were trying to kill them even though they Weren’t even aware
That’s like punishing white people today for slavery
@@jules.s2361 ah yes, King Fritz and the Tyburs (other Eldians); it's almost like whoever has titan power can't do any good, from the Eldian Empire ruling the world, to the remnants of the Eldian Empire continuing to rule the world by controlling Marley and using non-royal Eldians as meer weapons; therefore, I don't think that "our memories got wiped" argument would phase Magath since that's Eldians' doing, but I digress.
One reason being he's like 10+ years older than her meaning he'd been doing it for longer too.
I really hope your not trying to justify Marley killing eldians who had nothing to do with what happened that’s like killing us white people for what happened during slavery despite having nothing to do with it which is just plain ignorance
yeah you r right. why just blindly support one side be ignorant about the other?
@@keytendegraef982 Did you miss the part where I said, "They passed that trauma and hatred onto the next generation"? I didn't say they were right, I was pointing out that the "just get over it" mentality isn't trying to understand Marley's point of view. The propaganda machine in this series is very strong with all governments/groups pushing it for the sake of their own goal. The Marleyan government uses it, The Restorationist used it, The royal family used it.
Also, interesting you bring up the extreme example regarding white people and you're right that would be unthinkable, but a much lesser for of it does it exist in the real world in the form trying to guilt white people who didn't even exist when slavery did.
@@perrywinkle5000 that’s bc the white people today are still oppressing black people till this day. The eldians ‘s were on an island and had no clue what was going on. Marly just chose violence when they could’ve just left them alone. That’s like us killing and enslaving white people for their ancestors actions when they had nothing to do with it. I’
Annie would wash mikasa in Titan form. Only Levi could kill her
Hell nah 😂
@@erikioiiii6866 Annie would have killed Mikasa in season 1 if Levi wasn't there
Yeah, jerry always talks trash.
Reiner took Marco's life, but he took Reiner's sanity with him. Don't get me wrong, I feel for him, but Reiner deserved that, if only Armin also joined Jean to beat the shit out of him for Mina (Annie's closest friend before she joined MP and met Hitch), Thomas, Milieus, Nack, and every 104th cadets who died because the indirectly cause of Bertholt and Reiner
But still why would arming jump reiner he did eat his best friend but can really blame reiner he started all this when he was 12 and had no idea what to do
Idk man, does he though? Tbh, does anyone in the story deserve what they went through? I don't think so. Not to mention Reiner was literally a brainwashed child soldier.
All of them are mass murderers so nah
But lets ignore Annie right..bunch of hypocrites
So I guess Magath gets to stomp out Armin for every person he knew at the ports...
FESTIVUS on Paradis!
We shall begin with the Airing of Grievances!
one story line that would be interesting after all of this is what really happened in those 2000 years
If anything Reiner probably wanted Jean to beat his ass, so he could release everything on his chest and get the beating he feels he deserves. That's why he literally put up no resistance. He's a Titan shifter for fck sake if he really wanted he could murder Jean in an instant.
It's funny how they forget that even though reiner is the way he is he ain't weak. He lifted a titan on his back and walked up the stairs to the window. he LET him beat him. He didn't even fight back. These guys going on about he's getting his ass kicked and I'm like do you want Jean to die?😂 one cut boom transformation could kill everyone. They should be grateful isayama didn't make reiner fight back with the intent to kill.
@@eduardor-o4884 reiner is ass and useless
@@markosselvia8329 I bet if Reiner acted like a badass 24/7 and wasn't sorry about his actions you'd be singing his praises lmao, you're so predictable. Isayama was building a nuanced character here, not some action hero for you to soyface over.
Caught me off guard too lol I was like sheesh
So both this week’s and last week’s episode adapted 1 manga chapter for each episode respectively. But looks like the production was extremely stretched thin on today’s episode when even dialogue lip-flap animation relied heavily on still image panning cutaways. I imagine episode 84 will look extremely different on Blu-Ray (hopefully).
Also for more narrative context/understanding I would seriously recommend checking out chapter 127 (which is the first chapter of Volume 32) of the manga for comparison in order to better appreciate how much this episode had to skimp on the animation.
Yep. Alot of crunch showed through in this episode. Considering the next couple of chapters, I can see why though
That AOT song yall did fire asf

Me too
It didn't happened 2000 years agooooo. Eldian empire STARTED 2000 years ago. It was 2000 years of slavery for Marley and other nations and all this shit ENDED roughly JUST 100 years ago. Thats why there is still this much of resentment... 100 years of freedom are nothing compared to 2.000 years of slavery
Maybe it's me but I think Jean was Floch's Marco. So Floch seeing Jean """""die""""" or betray him (that look on his face is very fucking hard to decipher) probably has him all fucked up. Even more than he already was. Great ass episode.
Idk, Jean and Floch was never close. Floch's just acting as if the Jean he met during trainee days is still the Jean he's with years later, when he obviously is not.
