That had to be the fastest, craziest and most confusing emotional roller coaster of all time.
Eren basically told us his plan last episode. "Rather than letting someone steal my freedom, I'll steal theirs first." He wants the people of Paradis to have freedom too. He will get rid of anyone/anything threatening his and their freedom. Edit: I read the manga. Protagonist does not mean “the good guy”. Protagonist just means the main person the story is focused on. Antagonist doesn’t mean “the villain”. The antagonist is the character opposing the protagonist. It just so happens in this anime/story, the protagonist has characteristics people would consider dark/bad/evil. Rob is speaking straight facts. For all Eren knows, the entire world wants to see the annihilation of his people. He's been through the worst pains imaginable, an animal backed into a corner with no other options. Eren is justified in his actions given the knowledge and perspective he's gained through the series. As a viewer, we have more information than he does, so you could argue he's morally apprehensible for the rumbling. However, the same argument does not hold for Eren.
The thing is though same applies though what did someone random out the walls did to Eren you can't hold them to what other people did so regardless it's not justified , cause if a kid outside the wall gains the power an crush paradise for what Eren did everyone would say they're wrong

it’s sad how the royal family saw ymir as “ladylike” and “always helping people and thinking of them” when really she was a slave… how insane to depict a girl who was a literal enslaved human as “helping because she was nice and wanted to” HISTORY BOOK PROPAGANDA.
The crazy thing is this has real world parallels. If you read some history books of how they would talk about US slaves in plantations you would think they were holding hands and working in harmony
Eren and Zeke are the ones to recieved special treatment since they are just the only two that Ymir actually met within the paths or at least after Karl Fritz, since other royals might have know this before the brainwash thing happened.
Yeah it’s literally propaganda since the royal family is trying to follow the will of the king and his ideals which is why they probably depicted ymir in such a way
Rob had a point. They poked eren and his people until he snapped. It doesn’t justify what he does, but it explains it. Edit: I am NOT defending eren, or anyone. I think everyone is wrong. But eren knows (and has known) he is. And that’s what make his character writing and stance/viewpoint that much more heartbreaking and storytelling. But to reiterate, every side in this anime (yeagerists, eldians, marley) are wrong - and that’s what makes this anime so amazing and complex. you can say right and wrong is subjective, but ultimately there is always mutually correct rules or morals in life. That’s how you distinguish between bad and good. Ok I’m done y’all go ahead and discuss (nicely pls lol) in the comments tho 😭✋
Protagonist just refers to the main character of the story. It's not synonymous to a "good guy". A protagonist can be a villain and the good guy who opposes the main character can be an antagonist.
This episode for me man as an AOT fan was 🔥🔥🔥! Probably one of the best episodes in the series so far and I know that there is even better content ahead and I am not going to spoil it for the anime only fans because I want them to see and judge it for themselves without the manga folks spoiling it for them
Seeing the rumbling finally get animated feels so surreal, Eren’s voice gives me chills honestly. Ymir Fritz also had such a tragic backstory, definitely deserved better.
@@bendover7841 "Bro, who cares if she was born a slave, suffered on a daily basis, was used as a tool, forced to bear children to this awful man who didn't give a fuck about your people and when you died, he still called you a slave, that's not tragic, that's just boring, yawn."
@@lockerbuddy2039 Yet she still loved the guy who enslaved and tortured her. She went back to the tribe who tried to get her k1lled. She murdered other people for them. She deserved everything she got.
A lot of people missed this: after Eren gets the founder power and addresses the people he calls them “subjects of Ymir” instead of “Eldians” even he doesn’t consider himself eldian anymore
It's just kinda a "more correct" address, I guess? Historically they were Subjects of Ymir first and were called Eldians by their oppressors later. So he just opts for the "pre-oppression" name.
I think one of the biggest reasons as to why I'm still Team Eren, regardless of what is about to happen with the rumbling, is that even after everything that happened to them in the previous seasons, they tried multiple methods to achieve a peaceful ending. If I remember correctly, Paradis Island tried sending letters to the outside world as a symbol of raising the white flag saying that they don't wish to fight anymore and would rather the 2000 year long war come to an end. However, Marley didn't want to accept that peaceful ending and sent the message back saying they don't care esssentially. Understandably, it'd be hard to trust Paradis not to launch an attack with the power that they were in possession of so you can give them that. In Part 1 of this season though, Eren - whilst knowing the future - was hopeful that perhaps they may change their minds and chose to go undercover for the big announcement which resulted in the Declaration of War. The outside world is so bent on going along with Marley's ideals of prolonging Paradis' suffering for sins they didn't even commit themselves. The world really forced Eren to play this card which was only ever going to be the last resort if all else failed - which it did. If the entire world was coming after a small island of people who knew nothing of their past until recently, despite their peaceful efforts, I see no other way for Paradis to come out of this alive. You could argue that Eren was the one that influenced Marley's decision to go along with this final offensive attack but Paradis' end was inevitable and was going to eventually come around in time. This is evident when Marley sent Reiner and everyone else to infiltrate and attack the island. It's messed up but Eren's really trying to protect this little island that the world is trying to eradicate with what they have left which is unfortunately the deadliest option of all. It's no mercy from here on out
i honestly think eren is doing this to bring them together by becoming the main antagonist so everyone can join forces against eren kinda like when all the villages in naruto had to go against madara and obito, bringing peace but with a hard cost.

Some neat trivia about this episode. The creature that attached itself to Ymir’s spine resembles/is designed after an ancient organism called Hallucigenia, which lived around 500 million years ago, during the Cambrian period (and discovered in the Burgess Shale, Canada). The location itself is kinda symbolic because the Burgess Shale is sorta considered an "Origin of Life" in terms of its archaeological significance, thanks to the vast records of biodiversity preserved in it, which lead to the majority of life forms that exist today on the planet. So one can say Ymir "made contact" with the "Source of Life” in a symbolic sense, like Eren Krueger hypothesized back in Season 3 of the anime. This episode also had a lot of Norse mythology imagery and inspiration. In addition to the mythological Ymir being the first Jötunn and ancestor of all Jötnar (i.e. giants/titans), the Hallucigenia-like creature likely also symbolizes Níðhöggr, the dragon/serpent/wyrm who knaws at the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil (which is represented by the giant tree Ymir falls into and later on “The Paths” that connect all Eldians). Also Ymir’s Titan powers later splitting into the 9 Titan shifter powers is also a likely reference to the 9 Realms in Norse mythology that the world tree Yggdrasil maintains. Also the ancient Eldians seem to resemble Norse/Vikings in terms of their design (with the ancient Marleyans resembling Romans). Also the Wall Titans won’t just be killing all humans outside of the island of Paradis, they will also end up destroying the majority of all other life (flora and fuana larger than microorganisms) as well, which is a huge ecological/environmental disaster to the Biosphere in general (which admittedly is partially something that Isayama himself likely didn’t fully appreciate/consider when writing the story as well).
Nah the Flora and Fuana are fine. Remember way back in season 1 when Eren half shifted to protect Mikasa and Armin from the cannons? It was just dirt and grass and after Eren shifted there were flowers around the area something that Armin noticed wasn't there before. I think the Titans actually make the earth richer you know after stomping over it lol.
@@steak5038 Uh, no they do not do that. Also Colossal type titans emit so much heat they burn everything in proximity to them. Even if one wanted to concede that maybe the trampled soil left behind could be considered fertilized, that’s still killing nearly every single type of animals and plant that are larger than microorganisms. And while microorganisms are the most important in regard to the biosphere, killing all organisms larger than them would still devastate the biosphere’s ecological health in general.
@@TheoVorster And yet they did do that. Marley has theorized that the source of all organic material is responsible for the titans powers. One second Eren,Mikasa, and Armin are standing on a brick road and the next second flowers have sprouted after being exposed to the heat and steam of Erens titan. I get what you're saying but you're trying to bring our logic into a show where people turn into giants. I'm using the shows own logic to support my claims. But I think you are right about the animals I can't imagine them not getting squished or roasted.
@@steak5038 okay I went back and rewatched the bits of episodes 9 and 10, and yes Armin does comment on some flowers being there that weren’t there before. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree with Rob 100% on this take. They literally want to WIPE OUT all eldians. They declared war on eldia, they turned innocent eldians into titans to keep them inside the walls, but that STILL wasn’t enough for them. They then brought the war straight through the walls and killed innocent eldians. The outside world was literally never going to stop. The world declared war on Eldia, and they lost; how exactly does this make Eren evil? It’s either eradicate your enemy, or let your enemy eradicate you…
Facts. There’s all of these people online trying to get philosophical but they know damn well if they had a nuke, and the ENTIRE FUCKING PLANET showed up to their backyard family reunion to wipe them out, they would push that button.
God, you people are embarassing, a small rumblig to defend Paradis would be enough but Eren wants freedom, and killing millions of innocent foreigners is what makes Eren feel free. That's it, that's the point of Eren character, that's why the narrative shows him as a villain, live with it.
The thing people don't understand about aot is that NO ONE is evil or good, eren isn't evil, buts he's also not good. same with Mikasa, Armin, Zeke etc. you also don't need to kill someone to be considered either. People keep saying wether eren is evil or not but he literally isn't either of them. Aot isn't a traditional shonen anime, eren isn't a traditional shonen character. Shonen animes and main characters see the world black and white, (friendship saves the day bs) eldians are the white and everyone else is the black, no. This anime shows the world is grey. eren from season 1-3 saw the world and acted like the world was black and white and he was the good guy and anyone to appose him was a bad guy. Now he sees everything for how it is, i bet he even doesn't think of himself as a hero or a bad guy.
Man Rob just gave the most humble lesson about the never ending cycle of hatred and when you don't deal with the PTSD of that pain. What did you expect it was going to happen? Right? Loosing loved ones, being slaves to despotic rulers, sacrificing yourself and your loved ones for the satisfaction of their interests, course Ymir, and Eren 2000 years later, were going to react when being subject to an act of unprovoked violence? Eren's course of action was the only one to take, just like Rob said.
Everyone is forgetting that there was a plan to use a partial Rumbling to intimidate the world in order to give Eldia enough time to form diplomatic relationships with other nations because of their resources. Eren rejected that plan because it meant Historia would have to have kids and the Founding Titan would have to be passed down for a few generations. Historia was on board for this plan for her people and even still went and got pregnant. Instead of a possible peaceful solution, Eren went with global genocide.
He’s a complete psychopath. “Snapping” like rob suggests, isn’t a good excuse or justifiable to killing off the WHOLE world so violently. Being near a wall titan incinerates you. And being underneath one turns your into paper. So Eren leveled and BURNED most of the landmass.
Either y'all dont pay attention or watch with your brains turned off . Am so tired of this argument. You really think the people hell bent on destroying paradis are suddenly going to finally backoff because of partial rumbling. That will only further prove to the world how much more of a threat paradis really is and the more reason why they need to be destroyed. After the kings warning they waited for years and still attacked..same will happen if they partial rumble. They will keep sending eldian warriors as spies to steal the founding or advance weaponry to attack..which will be them against the world You have to understand that the world will never leave paradis alone until they are wiped out.Peace with paradis is never an option to the world. Eren literally has no choice
This is truly one of the best episodes that has dropped in the AOT series! Yimir's backstory is sad because she was used like a tool and Eren was the first human that saw her a human being and gave some of her power to Eren to unleash the rumbling
This is the most realistic theory about Eren and his titan right now. (i say theory because it hasn't been confirmed 100% but i believe its like 95% true.) Because the Attack Titan has the power to view the memories of it's future inheritors, it has the ability to convey and sway one's actions into a certain direction. Eren had a strong sense of freedom ever since he was born (this is where it gets a bit confusing) using the Founding Titan's ability to connect to the subjects of Ymir, Eren set his will and sent it to every single Attack Titan inheritor to ensure that he will receive the Attack Titan in the present we know. (An example of this is when Eren used Zeke and the founding titan ability to appear in the memory with Grisha so that Eren can convince him to steal the founding titan.) Hence the reason why the Attack Titan "fights for freedom" is because Eren instilled his will in all the inheritors of the Attack Titan. The founding titan is not bound by time so ever since Eren was born, future Eren already planned out everything. That is why this future is determined and unchanging, this is the only future that is possible because if not it will create a paradox in time and Grisha would never be on Paradis Island because Eren Kruger wouldn't have fought against Marley for the freedom of Eldians.)
This episode was so great! Another 10/10 from the walks breaking, the OST’s,Eren escaping the chains and the ymir backstory! Eren message aswell was 😮💨
Right after the episode and hearing Rob talking and explaining Eren's intention, I felt like I was able to watch the 'Real Rob' reacting to an episode. This is the real him, no acting and no animosity towards anyone. He was able to understand the character depth of the protagonist who's willing to be the 'devil' just to save his people. I feel like Rob has better comprehension and rationale than Animaechan at this point. Because animaechan's reaction to AOT is trash.
For real, I didn't expect such profound read into the story from these bros dudes. No offense btw, if you guys reading this. The fact that Rt Tv gives such thought show they really pay atttentionas much as they could to the story.
It’s also scary how Slavery can actually leave a conditional effect on people minds. She granted the most powerful and terrifying gift to shift into a giant colossus and she remains loyal to a tyrant douchebag that treated her through as though she was nothing more than a mere weapon. She did nothing for her people other than conquer. Her mind was corrupt but her heart was still pure. That’s the type of shit nice people are until they snap. Be nice long enough to see yourself turn into a slave and conditioned. She really didn’t know how far she could go as a person. She has no identity to herself. That’s the literal tyranny and what slavery could do to a person even remain loyal to guy pulling the strings. RT TV, what we just witnessed, that right there, is the epitome of storytelling. Isayama stay GOATED for writing one of the greatest stories ever told. The Rumbling.. has finally started. There is no going back from this. All the walls in Paradis have crumbled. There are no walls in Attack on Titan anymore. 2000 Years in the making, and Isayama's writing finally paid off. Let that fact sink in. And to think there is more to come. From episode 1 "To You, in 2000 Years" to "From You, 2000 Years Ago" finally came to light and is in the books of history. Unreal.
If you go back to one of the attack on Titan endings, there was a painting of Ymir’s daughters eating her. In other words, they were hinting about it the entire time
I think you guys completely misunderstood Zeke here. He wanted to sterilize Eldians so that they would die off slowly but "naturally" and in the end people would get their wish of having the Eldians die while they go to the after-life and are freed from this hell, at the same time freeing the world from the Titans. Eren is the one killing everyone else so that only Eldians exist meaning everyone is equal again, since everyone can become a Titan.
ABOUT HOW YMIR GOT THE POWERS. It's loosely based on an organism called Hallucigenia that basically a lot of life dervies from. It looks exactly how it did in the anime, like a spine without a head. Also the creature is somewhat based on the tree of life from norse mythology. That's the short version. Someone in the comments will probably explain it more. Either way, the author did his research!
He didn't just inherit all of Ymir's trauma, but think about this.. these titans have been passed down for thousands of years. You get the memories of not just one person, but all the inheritors before you. The direct memory of all of history for every inheritor that had the titan before you. Multiply all of that by how many Eren has inherited so far.. The founding Titan, the attack titan, and the war hammer. Since he also has the attack titan, then it's not just the past, but the future as well. Let that sink in.. 2,000 years of lives into one person.
Ymir spent eternity every instant building every titan by hand that was made. Every time someone turned into a titan she would build their body, that’s where it comes from and why it’s so light-it’s made form the sands of Ymir. She fucking spent eternity doing this for the king as a slave-she finally broke free
2,000 years of servitude in the coordinate realm is closer to eons. She made very single titan that's ever existed from hand. Her hands and a water bucket is all she had. She was conditioned to think there was no path to freedom and that she had to listen to those with royal blood when all along she was waiting for someone to free her.
Eren isn’t a hero or villain. He is an anti-hero. Someone with his own code, his own plan. At least his plan, in theory, is for the betterment of his people.
He's more-so an anti-villain He understands and sympathizes with the pain of loss and suffering However he continues to wipe out all of life outside of the walls, even civilizations that had nothing to do with Marley.
Merliyans used titan powers for their own though like making them slave battle slave fighting against other country with titan so it doesn't really matter who started it first though.. since they were fighting even before yamir got titan powers.. meyliyans kept sending Titans to walls even though people inside the wall had no idea about anything.. they send armored titan colossal Titan to break the wall and kill thousands of people inside now eren is just retaliating..
@@yehyaali4701 I am pretty sure they are the one making slaves out of eldians and brainwashing them.. also they asked for it they send Titans and spy's in wall killed thousands of people when they had no idea why this is happening to them.. so let's just say you got to do whatever to survive and protect what's precious to you
Jig saw would be proud at eren for having the determination to break out of the wrist chains like that in the beginning of the episode. He would be jigsaw’s best player in his challenges
He is also wiping out Eldians outside the walls and many innocents that have nothing to do with any hate. Which is why Armin was on board when he thought he was just going after the rest of the world's military. But Eren isn't just gonna wipe out humanity outside paradise. He is gonna wipe out most ecosystems. Most animal and plants. The titans are gonna trample everything. He just cares about Paradis, not Eldians
If you go back to season 2 ending you can literally see most of the things that happened in this episode ymirs backstory her getting eaten by her children and eren starting the rumbling.
Protagonist literally means the "main character" of a story. The character of central focus. It doesn't really matter whether or not he's the good guy or the bad one. Therefore, Eren can still be called the protagonist.
Bro... Im feeling a little emotional. The fact that this is the core arc. Ive been watching since 2013, and I see the walls opening up, FINALLY. Damn, such a masterpiece. I might worship Isayama for this 😂
I have waited so long for this few chapters to be animated. Mappa truly nailed it with their adaptation. Also Yuki Kaji's voice acting is insane in this episode man.
Eren is still the protagonist, because he's the main character. Being a villain =/= antagonist. An antagonist is someone who opposes the protagonist. Zeke and Reiner are still the antagonists, despite being better people, than our main character
@@kadeemk4679 yes they are, they are psychologically troubled soldiers, who were made to be weappons and didn't have much choice in that matter and regret their actions, while Eren is a genocidal maniac, who was born like that and needed no outside influence to be such, besides his future self. I understand and love them all as characters, but Eren being a worse person than them, is without doubt.
@@iRoboticGaming Born like what? He was about to watch his friend get kidnapped and who knows what else and spazzed on them rightfully so. He's the son Grisha always wanted. Zeke was filled with self hate from thinking he was unloved and couldn't understand there's much bigger things going on right now and was just gonna kneel over and commit genocide against his own. Don't get me started on Reiner. Even Falco was able to see right through him as he cried begging to Eren.
One of the best reactions to this show because yall actually discussed why Eren isn't "entirely" wrong and can understand Eren doing this and not flat out saying he's evil period point blank
Honestly, the storytelling and world making of this show is remarkable. True piece of art, the foreshadowing of how Jean & Reiner saw how crazy and deranged they saw Eren was back in the early seasons, down to the language of how Eren saw the outside world(monsters/titans were thought to be the only thing outside the walls) like, see how it all comes together in this episode is crazy. + Ymir backstory is crazy sad but real based on raids & slavery. This might be a Top 2/3 story ever told on television. Animated or not.
Eren created a paradox where he manipulates some events to his way in the future. Simple manipulation goes a long way. Also if you know the ending it is called “child of evil” and some lyrics include “Ill do whatever it takes to protect you”.
He did not manipulate every single event, that is just exageration. Lol He just influenced and let some things happen. Grisha is the only one who got really actually manipulated. Things still happens without Eren superceding things. If the founding was super convenient then Eren would not even resort to the rumbling.
Alot of people think eren is wrong for this, but if eren waited for marley( and the world)to strike first, they would've been wiped out....when eren attacked at marley they were already people on board to destroy paradise Island(lets say for example 75% of the world)...when he attacked marley he brought the other 25% on board to destroy paradise Island...also, there are interment zones around the world where eldians are being held and treated far worse than what you see from marley...
I mean you can't destroy the fear from the world in a short amount of time. Like Eldians terrorized the world for like 1800+ years,. Compare that to like just a 100 years when Eldians lied low.

Its sorta wrong ya know. Eldians were the kings people. But the king is nothing. Ymir was everything. So subjects of ymir is more accurate

And demon slayer too bro

Eren stops cycle by killing everyone but Eldians (freedom mentality)
ymir was tormented by her need to be wanted, loved ,and acknowledged, she didnt want to be left alone,
which is something the manga didnt explain really well, the anime added a lot more exposition dialogues to actually make sense the whole thing, like fritz saying the build bridge and pathed mountains
"A hero will sacrifice you to save the world, but a villain will sacrifice the world to save you"
I see similarities in Anakin Skywalker and Eren Yaeger. You could argue that Anakin was convinced that the Jedi were the true enemy and that he was acting just to save his wife. The lengths people will go to to save there loved ones.

You know what's more depressing? 2000 years is like a Zillion years in the paths because time moves a lot differently there. Ymir has been waiting for that long man, poor girl.
True, time is so slow there. Like in the real world Eren’s head was in Zeke’s hand for like 1 second. But in the paths they were going through years of memories.

However he has to keep moving forward not out of hatred but the need to protect paradise and more importantly all the people he cares about (also his line when talking with Zeke about stealing someones freedom if they attempted to steal his). If you watched the attack on Marley you can see Eren listening to Tybur’s speech and almost looks saddened/resigned when he hears his suspicions/future memories are correct, when Tybur announces the attack and genocide of his people. I think we can all agree if we take a non biased viewpoint that Zekes plan is more humane and “good” (or atleast the lesser of the two evils) compared to what Eren wants to do.
Im not siding with eren because I think what he’s doing is the right thing to do I know objectively speaking what Eren is doing is evil. Only until you barely survive a massive attack of the rumbling leaving all your loved ones trampled. The lack of empathy is impressive.

All I kept hearing throughout this episode was: 🎶Rumbling, Rumbling, it's coming

It’s also scary how Slavery can actually leave a conditional effect on people minds. There is no going back from this. All the walls in Paradis have crumbled. There are no walls in Attack on Titan anymore. 2000 Years in the making, and Isayama's writing finally paid off. Eren is the one killing everyone else so that only Eldians exist meaning everyone is equal again, since everyone can become a Titan.
Key word Paradis Eidians not all of them
ABOUT HOW YMIR GOT THE POWERS.
Narrative of Self is the result of a feedback loop between “Separate Self” & Cosmos 🎈

It’s like light from death note . A protagonist that’s bad but thinks there doing whats right no matter how extreme .
Eren created a paradox where he manipulates some events to his way in the future. Simple manipulation goes a long way. Also if you know the ending it is called “child of evil” and some lyrics include “Ill do whatever it takes to protect you”.
He did not manipulate every single event, that is just exageration. Lol
He just influenced and let some things happen. Grisha is the only one who got really actually manipulated.
Things still happens without Eren superceding things.
If the founding was super convenient then Eren would not even resort to the rumbling.
thats Overexaggeration, otherwise he wouldn't get his head blown off, more like he controlled wills of all past attack titan's to get this result
