i think Eren and Zeke is not going back in time.. they just re visit memory of grisha, and since grisha is the attack titan with ability to see future (aka eren shows him the future as Zeke and Eren are revisiting the memory) so that's why grisha was able to interact with Zeke and see Eren. --- I could be wrong teehee
Edit: so basically Eren tricked Zeke to headbump and go down the memory lane so he can show Grisha the memories of the present. And Grisha is seeing Eren from the future. We as a viewer(also zeke) are just seeing the past.

It wasn’t a masterpiece, it is full of retcons and plotholes
Time cannot be manipulated in Attack on Titan, every event happens as it was always supposed to. Eren was always supposed to come to their memories and Eren would always show Grisha specific memories so that Grisha could pass the Founder and Attack down for Eren to come to this exact moment and this chain of event will happen, is happening and has been occurring endlessly in the endless time in the paths in loops
Techinically it can, but only two people matter, Future eren at the end of the timeline and current eren deciding to follow future eren's decisions
Future eren probably experienced a war which they lost and Marley won but touched someone with royal blood and changed the current events this eren is living which is why eren is willing to go through with the plan as he knows he has too

It's not some revisionists stuff where they are correcting a defeat. Everything is happening as it was always meant to. @@kiyc nope. It's a fixed loop. AoT isn't one of those alternate timeline stories or others that use information from the future to alter their past. There is only one flow of time for AoT and they are all just in for the ride including Eren. Everything here is just meant to happen.

@@6k_627 It makes sense though. As a doctor Grisha has strong respect for the sanctity of life and Faye’s death was decades ago, it’s an old wound by now. Painful, but not immediate. Plus as a father trying to be better now, looking at the terrified children he’s asked to kill, Grisha can’t do it. He can get angry and passionate like Eren, but Grisha’s not ruthless like Zeke to kill Falco in cold blood.
Biggest plot twist: It was eren's plan all along, he made his own story. He was even the one who told isayama to write this masterpiece. Eren is the true author of Attack on Titan not isayama

When you realize that Eren made Grisha spare Rod Reiss in the past, so that Historia could grow up to defeat him and claim the throne as the rightful Queen, so that Eren could later kiss her hand after returning from the mission at the end of Season 3, and inherit these future memories.

Only those who wield the Founding Titan and have access to royal blood can actually utilize these memories, which Eren only had the former of the two. When Eren came into contact with Historia, he met both pre-requisites, thus saw the future.
Historia could not see the future as Eren did because she was the opposite of Eren and only had the royal blood, but was missing the Founding Titan.

This is peak storytelling. The animation, OSTs and especially Grisha's voice acting was spine tingling. It makes you contemplate your understanding of everything that's come before. Really is a nuanced way of depicting a full circle story, that the actions of the past was influenced by knowledge of the future. Eren's mantra that he was always free just became even more meaningful. Our POV is pretty much the same as Zeke, just a relentlessly inevitable path.

Grisha kept looking at Eren during this episode. Grisha wasn’t really looking at Eren, he was seeing the future of Eren standing in front of him. Same thing with Zeke.
I thought with seeing the future they meant seeing it from their perspective in this case grisha would see from erens. Would make more sense no? Haven't read the Manga btw

Grisha isn't actually seeing Eren in front of him everytime he looks at him, he's actually looking at himself trough the eyes of Eren cause he's seeing Eren's memories of him standing in front of Grisha; It's kinda like Grisha is watching himself in 3rd person trough Eren's eyes, thats why he looks so shocked everytime, cause he knows Eren is watching him in that moment. The same applies as how he can see Zeke sometimes, cause Eren was always behind Grisha when that happened, so Grisha can see where Zeke is standing trough Eren's eyes.
Basically the reason why Grisha was able to know Zeke and Eren were there, was because Eren and Zeke were in paths which allowed Eren to send specific memories to Grisha and in this case he sent his current memories to Grisha, meaning that Eren basically live streamed his POV to Grisha. So for example, when Grisha "sees" Zeke after he kills the reiss family, he's actually seeing himself hug Zeke through Eren's point of view (because he was standing behind Grisha) and in real life, he was just talking to himself and hugging air. Same in the basement, Eren was standing behind Grisha, then "live streamed" his pov to Grisha and Grisha was able to see himself and Zeke
To think about that and manage to insert that in the story proves Isayama has above average intellect

I remember watching last weeks episode and people were saying zeke outsmarted Eren😆I was just waiting for this episode to drop! Easily one of the best plot twists in anime. Another 10/10 episode imo. Mappa animated this perfectly😂 especially when grisha said ‘Eren are you happy’

Eren did mentioned that the thing he hated the most were people who were slaves with no will of their own. Frieda was exactly that of the first king. Poor Freida because she actually felt sorry for Grisha and wanted to help him out a bit there but the first king's ideals (when her eyes turned purple) prevented her from doing so.

From a manga reader perspective I’m really impressed how they handled this episode. The “stand up father” and Grisha going crazy and apologizing to Zeke scenes were the most anticipated scenes for us, and seeing it animated was mindblowing. Mappa blew it out of the park with the animation, va, music, and everything bro

So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here.
AOT operates by a particular type of time travel where it's almost impossible to change the past even if you somehow go back in time. And any change that you tried to cause was always meant to happen in the overall timeline. Here time is a fixed circle, not a stream. We may see Eren meddle in the past but that was always meant to happen. This calls into the question of the existence of free will in the world of Attack of Titan.
The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future inheritors. This was hinted when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. Keep in mind, they can only view these memories but can't interact with them. So how was Eren able to meddle in the past?
Well, he had 3 perfect conditions:
1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan
2. The ability of the Founding Titan
3. He was also in contact with someone with royal blood AKA Zeke.
After Zeke tapped Eren's head, they were able to view Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of the coordinate. They were freely able to view the past as if it were through a one way mirror.
Now if Eren had any other Titan other than the Attack Titan, he would only be able to look. But since Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's recollection of the same event that he's currently experiencing in real time.
So this mean that whenever Grisha can see or hear Eren, he's actually recieving a brief future memory from Eren's POV where he can see out of his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a 3rd perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are viewing, allowing for a two way communication through time.
Also Note that everytime, Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always standing behind his dad. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is from actually due to the memories from Eren's POV

Basically, Since Grisha has Erens future memories, what Present Eren is doing in present time is altering Grishas memories of Erens futures memories. So when Eren was telling his dad to stand, its basically erens future memories that was in Grisha.
The timeline is fixed that means everything is supposed to happen is fixed and nothing can change that.
When Eren kissed Historia, he unlocked his dads memories which also included his own future memories and that is why he was shook. Eren basically sees fragments of his own future but not all of it (shown when Eren was surprised about Porco sneak attack, underground. But not Pieck when she pulled a gun at him, bc he knew she was not gonna shot him). Same with Grisha, he only sees parts of Erens future in fragments.

Hmm, when time travel, especially in the past comes up in a story, the things usually get really tricky. Due to Novikovs self-consistency principle it is theoretically and technically impossible to travel in the past, because it basically never happened. And travelling to future is usually travelling to a certain timeline or a parallel universe. So I guess that there is a metaphysical bond that titan shifters have, and they can communicate outside of space and time somehow. Something like a titan hive mind. But if this story turns out to be a loop without a concise start, which I think it is, then it it will be a good story although somewhat impossible.

Exactly. Everything he has done is because he is mentally unstable. He said it himself “he has always been himself.” That’s why he was able to kill at such a young age. Remember him talking about how boring the world was? Wanting something to happen.
I used to think that he Aizened this whole thing. But now I realize that Eren saw the future and rather than try to change it he just went with it. Sasha’s death is when he officially realized that his future memories ability is legit.

I'm pretty sure he only unlocked the full details of what Grisha saw but not everything. So he still saw himself from the future but not the wider context. That's why he is still surprised by certain revelations.
I don’t think he saw everything, only his fathers memories and maybe glimpses of what had to be done. If he knew everything then he wouldn’t have been surprised by some moments afterwards.

No, i think that was in his nature to not bow to anyone, The Attack Titan does not serve anyone. I do believe when Eren was tied up with Histora planning to eat him is when he got memories of the future once they touched his back which is also why he broke down because he was too young to process what was happening. IMO
I finished the manga he tell armin that the moment he kissed her hand he saw how his live plays out and no one has power to change time I knew from that moment what I must do
A couple of points of clarification, the First King of the Wall’s Will and Pact of Non-Aggression didn’t always constrain the royal family members who possessed the Founding Titan. Said pact/will was only relatively recently made a 100+ years ago when the Walls of Paradis were first created. Before that there was no Pact limiting the Founding Titan, whereas the Attack Titan has always had the power of seeing the memories of its future holders, and Grisha is speculating that the point of that trait was to act as a counter balance to the Founding Titan in general and to lead up to the defiance of the First King of the Wall’s will.
Also if it wasn’t clear from the visuals, this episode indicated that Eren in the final episode of Season 3 (episode 59), the moment when he was kissing Historia’s hand (during the ceremony commending the Scouts’ success of retaking Shiganshina), was the exact moment when he unlocked more of his father’s memories, specifically the ones in this very episode where he saw Grisha being egged on/told by Eren’s future self to kill the Reiss family and steal the Founding Titan. Hence why he had such a disturbed expression after kissing Historia’s hand.
They miss to put this flashback clearly.
Also want to add on to that Eren wasn’t disgusted that his father killed the children, he was disgusted because his father wavered to killing the children. Eren sees it was justified on why those children had to die because they believe they must atone to their sins of being eldians and if Grisha had let them lived, they would’ve done everything to try and get the founding titan back and Eren knew that and that’s why he didn’t see a problem with killing those children.
Eren had also seen the memories of his fathers memories of him witnessing the rumbling

I know all the attention is gonna (rightfully) be on the Eren-Grisha plot twist, but I can’t get over how powerful “Zeke…I love you” is.
Zeke’s entire worldview stems from the belief that his father saw him only as a tool of war and that he shouldn’t have been born, so for Grisha to apologize for his mistakes and declare that he truly loved Zeke the whole time even when he mistreated him is a massive shock
Zeke got the catharsis/closure he needed, but at what cost…
To help people understand, the Eren that we saw grow up didn't know either that his future self was in command the entire time.

On a serious note, it's really scary how Grisha, someone who was so anti-Marley and pro-Eldia, saw one glimpse of Eren's plan and was like, "Zeke. You have to stop him." Despite Grisha's hate for Marley and how far he was willing to go, even HE thought his plan was too far. He was genuinely horrified. Whatever Eren's plan is, Grisha does not want it to happen.
Speaking of, Zeke and Grisha finally getting to work out their issues and hug each other in a moment of pure love is really heartwarming. Grisha understood his mistakes when raising Zeke before. Instead of only treating him as a tool, he treats him as his son. Zeke is finally able to take his first step towards closure after years of trauma. Even if they had their differences, Grisha and Zeke can at least agree with one thing: Stopping Eren..

If anyone didn't understand, I'll try to explain in the simplest way possible :-
The crazy part is Grisha isn't looking at or hugging or listening to anyone in real life, he just knows Zeke and Eren's positions and what they were saying since Grisha can see through Eren's memories and can tell where they were standing/what they were doing/what they were saying when they were looking through Grisha's memories here in this episode. It's genius.

Zeke’s plan was fail proof. A plan 4-5 years in the making. The amount of things Zeke has setup and strategically had in place was crazy. But when Grisha said that him and Eren can see the future, Zeke lost 😔

Yes that's why he laughed and was devastated. He knew he couldn't change the future and everything has to happen
They’re not time travelling, Eren and Zeke are travelling through the memories of Grisha. Grisha can only ‘see’ them because he is seeing Eren’s memories- he is seeing himself from Eren’s point of view, so when Eren sees Zeke, he sends that memory to Grisha so Grisha sees Zeke.
Grisha didnt have the attack titan at the time he saw Zeke (back in marley) so im guessing its because they’re all eldian.

Griesha's voice actor was always straight fire, the scene where he was screaming and zeke was listening in this scene. I love his voice actor so much because he says it all with so much emotion.
AOT has to be my favorite series to watch them react cuz it's one of the few times Rob is extremely happy and invested and getting along with everyone. It gives us a fun peek at a different side of Rob ^^
i dont watch their other reactions, but ive read comments regarding Rob’s dislike for certain characters in other anime haha. Im unsure which one, but it might’ve been My Hero Academia and its protagonist. Someone correct me and fill me in on how they get along elsewhere ? :(

@@silfamusic The manga had a page limit - hence why it felt rushed and Isayama couldn't elaborate more on certain things. I believe the anime will handle the ending better due to it not having any restrictions. I also heard Isayama is working with MAPPA to supposedly change a few things around. With that said, it's not going to satisfy everyone even if it's changed slightly.
When you re-watch the last episode for season 3 part 2, you can tell after Eren kissed Historia's hand he wasn't the same. HIs face and mannerisms were completely different and this episode explains why that was the case

@@abdirizak7766 yes, the attack titan users can see the future of his next user, that's the thing, like when Eren Kruger talking to Grisha and mentioned Mikasa & Armin's name long before they were born and then Grisha asked who is Armin & Mikasa's and then Kruger said "I don't know, who's memories is this?"
Essentially Grisha is seeing Erens memories of going through his memories as it is currently happening to him which is why it was making it seem as if they were actually just their because Grisha was mixing the present with the memories.
And when Eren kissed Historia’s hand and got all of those memories, he was basically seeing Grisha’s memories of seeing his memories. So essentially when Eren kissed Historia’s hand he saw basically all that we are seeing in this episode and more, he basically was shown bits and pieces of the past and present so he doesn’t know everything but he does know a lot still and knows major events which is why he seemed to disconnect from everyone.
Edit: But despite all of this, remember that Eren saw this stuff before it even happened which normally when you think about seeing the future you’d think it’d change because you saw it which would cause you to do stuff differently. But everything still ended up happening just as Eren saw it, meaning that the future can’t change and that it’s all already pre determined, also remember that when Eren first saw this stuff when he kissed Historia’s hand he was messed up but now that he realized that the future can’t be changed he has just accepted his role which would explain his change.
Eren is not evil or a villain no matter what, also remember that the world wants to kill him and all of Paradise so it’s either kill or be killed so all that Erens doing he has no choice but to do it or let everyone he cares about die. Most people put through Erens circumstances would do the same so you can’t really call him evil. Sometimes people do bad things for their own right reasons

Grisha was seeing Erens memories of being in his memories and so as Eren would do something Grisha would just be seeing Erens memory of doing it which he would then respond to which Eren would respond to and so on. Which is still very confusing

@@GODOFLIQUOR I mean kinda. Eren's saw the memories he gave his father. However, those are all things he wanted to happen. He might not at the time known "why" he wanted them to happen, but he knew he wanted it. Eren chose what he was going to choose because that is simply what he wanted to choose.
Kinda like if you go to make a sandwich you are going to choose your favorite toppings even if you already knew in the future you would. Having knowledge you would choose your favorite toppings doesn't change the fact you choose them.

Some key facts from the episode
Baby boy Eren caught glimpse of both Zeke & Older Eren while they were in the doorway
Kruger mentioned Mikasa & Armin in the season 3 episode 21 because he was able to peer into the memories of Eren, who is the future inheritor of the Attack titan(being able to see the future basically)
If you go back to chapter 1 of the manga or even the first episode of the anime you can see that Grisha is not facing young Eren when he says he'll show him the basement but is actually saying that while facing in the direction of older Future Eren
Grisha mentions that supposedly all the inheritors of attack titan lately were going rogue and were all led by the memories of possibly the last attack titan ever i. e Eren Yeager

If you look at episode 1, he actually dreams about the wall being breached hours before it happens. This is likely due to him being the coordinate, not then, but later.

So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here.
AOT operates by a particular type of time travel where it's almost impossible to change the past even if you somehow go back in time. And any change that you tried to cause was always meant to happen in the overall timeline. Here time is a fixed circle, not a stream. We may see Eren meddle in the past but that was always meant to happen. This calls into the question of the existence of free will in the world of Attack of Titan.
The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future inheritors. This was hinted when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. Keep in mind, they can only view these memories but can't interact with them. So how was Eren able to meddle in the past?
Well, he had 3 perfect conditions:
1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan
2. The ability of the Founding Titan
3. He was also in contact with someone with royal blood AKA Zeke.
After Zeke tapped Eren's head, they were able to view Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of the coordinate. They were freely able to view the past as if it were through a one way mirror.
Now if Eren had any other Titan other than the Attack Titan, he would only be able to look. But since Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's recollection of the same event that he's currently experiencing in real time.
So this mean that whenever Grisha can see or hear Eren, he's actually recieving a brief future memory from Eren's POV where he can see out of his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a 3rd perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are viewing, allowing for a two way communication through time.
Also Note that everytime, Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always standing behind his dad. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is from actually due to the memories from Eren's POV

Fam think about how nuts this basically is, even as a manga reader.
Future eren basically set up a loophole for present eren, with 3 things specifically.
1. First off being the LAST attack titan, therefore having complete domain to rearrange memories for past inheritors to his will for whatever goal he wants to be set from influencing them. Plus this power isn’t something that was even in future erens control, he was simply just lucky to be the final attack titan/last inheritor
2nd. The attack Titans ability to see past memories in general, which would explain why future eren wanted present to have it and from grisha specifically.
3rd. Having the founder which would make present eren the key BUT also be able to connect to the paths/use it’s power by meeting someone with royal blood.
That’s why eren makes that damn face when he kisses historia. He quite literally got the past memories, grishas memories, BUTT also future erens memories as well since future eren is the “last” Attack titan so therefore he technically was able to give his present self knowledge on certain things before the end of his fate.
Like literally all consolations basically aligned for present eren to achieve what he’s doing, cause if he wasn’t even the last attack titan we most likely would have a completely different story altogether.
I like how next episode is called “from you 2000 years ago” and episode 1 is “to you in 2000 years.

I don't mind Eren being called Evil or the Villain, it's not like we cant love a antagonistic character.
The creeping dread across S4 as Eren goes further and further in his drive for freedom and power, getting darker and darker is so good. Just like Mikasa and Armin, we keep hoping he has a plan, something good that will show him as an unambiguous hero and turn thetables on Zeke and Marley. But here, we see that he’s now become the villain, coldly ordering the death of children with no mercy as ominous music plays. Reiner said: “Of all the people in the world who shouldn’t have this power, the worst would be you!” He was 100% right.

I like how they’ve caught up the present time with the future time. the discussion on future Eren vs younger Eren, it opens up the thought of a time loop type of thing, so has it been a cycle ? + the way he woke up on the first episode with the dream he had. Grisha's VA only has a small screentime overall the series but still one of the best in portraying his emotions

Important point. Attack Titan's users can't see into the future. They can send their memories to previous Attack Titan holders. That means Grisha can't see the future. He can only see what Eren sends him.

Amazing reaction from you guys I always love watching your Attack on Titan reactions and this was one of my favorite chapters in the manga and Mappa animated it amazingly especially the expressions on Eren's face god those expressions looked so menacing and godly and all the emotions that started to build up to the moment of Grisha stabbing his hand with the close up of his face showing you that he didn't want to do it that expression was done amazingly I can't wait to watch yalls reactions to the next episodes and be able to talk about them cause from here on out it gets crazier
I think people miss the fact that the Eldians almost exterminated the entire human race. The prejudice against them isn't unreasonable. Unlike in real life where prejudice is silly, the Eldians can actually turn into man-eating monsters and have shown that they are willing and capable of ending the whole of humanity.
Also, people often make the statement that Marleyeans attacked Paradi for no reason and that the Eldians in the walls were just trying to live peaceful lives. This is false because it omits the fact that The Owl attacked the harbor before the invasion. So, from the Marlylean perspective, the Eldian restorationist were making their attempt to subvert the peace treaty in favor of the genocidal Eldian Empire. So to stop the Founding Titan from being taken they sent in all their recruits. I'm not saying the Marelyeans were perfect, but that shouldn't lead you to believe that Eldians are simple victims devoid of any blame.
The fact that the Eldians weren't eradicated for the atrocities committed is honestly a miracle. The Peace Treaty put in place by the King and Tybers was the best situation they could've hoped for, even with the threat of the titans outside the walls. The Eldians should've been dealt with directly after the massacres, allowing them to build up resentment for their punishment was a mistake.
But we don't know for sure if the eldians were controlled against their will to almost exterminate the world.

@@Jasonraydee Rewatch Willy Tyburs speech (ep 5). He explains how the titans began turning on themselves after running out of victims. In the episode he calls it "The Great Titan War". Had the King been controlling the Titans it wouldn't make sense for them to begin fighting amongst themselves. The Eldians were definitely operating freely.
