I'm so disappointed with this!! OMG this chapter is truly one of my favs in the manga because you really see the reactions of everyone in each of the confessions they make. And entire conversations were replaced with trees?
@@LORDdrPepper you’re right, it ain’t but it’s kinda sad that the last episodes have basically been panel by panel and this one wasn’t, considering it’s a more character driven episode

Everyone realized just how dirty they are. There are no longer any innocents around that campfire. But the one that got me the most was actually Magath at the very end. He couldn't bring himself to say it. But it finally clicked with him that his side has been using indoctrinated CHILDREN to fight against their own people with the hopes that his side will grant them forgiveness for a past they had nothing to do with. In that moment Gabi was a little girl with a wish. Not a warrior. And he finally saw it.
Okay the campfire scene with Magath and Jean was frustratingly accurate to real life debate tho. Even to the point where one guy calls the other a child lmao.
I think people forget that it's only been 100 years since the Eldian Empire fell. People still talk about colonization and slavery in the USA today (Lupe was joking at the end, but he made a good point). After 2000 years of ruthless tyranny, of course the world would react harshly. Do we not remember what happened to Germany after WW1? That's why Magath talks the way he does, as his father (maybe) and grandfather (definitely) lived during the Eldian Empire. It doesn't justify his part in Marley or his words, but he's literally a generation, or 2, away from the tyranny on a scale never seen before until now. It's so good seeing the payoff of all the psychological aspects in the show. Jean and Reiner, Gabi and Magath, Mikasa and Annie, Yelena and Pieck. So many interactions in one episode that really draw you into these characters even further.
that's why i think this series is one of the GOATs. the weaving of the story since the BEGINNING and all the payoffs that are about to happen (i read the manga). the story and character development is masterful not just the action/animation/music. it's brilliant.
We didn’t really see much for Pieck. She was able to out Yelena and reveal her bullshit to everyone, but we never really saw Pieck talk much about her own concerns for her family back home, since she still has her dad who she wants to show a better world. We don’t know how she feels about having just lost Porco, her closest friend, and Colt, one of the candidates she cares about. Surely Falco or Gabi would have told her. She cares about the kids we don’t know what she thinks about them dealing with so much themselves. We didn’t see any reaction to Gabi’s breakdown as she protected Reiner, or Reiner’s apologies to Jean, etc. We’ve seen her do plenty in battle and we know she already doesn’t trust Marley, but we don’t really know how she feels about the current events on a more personal level. I hope we get some more character development for her. MAPPA already basically revamped Porco’s character, maybe they’ll do the same with Pieck especially since she’s still alive.
@@bitch8205 agree with bitch, one might even think Pieck was hiding on purpose inside the titan with the excuse of being on guard duty, in order to not show her emotions.
@@Drace_The_Ace It would make sense. "thats too much" but looking back on s1 of AoT, you would definitely understand how important and how dear Marco was to Jean. Marco made Jean realized how great of a leader he must be, when Jean found Marco's body he was shocked and didn't know what to do. Marco's words of how great a leader Jean will be sticked with him throughout the series.
@Elicuu Kit bro. all the story and character development in the entire series are amazing. but reiner's journey in the end is what intrigued me the most. how torn the dude was. PTSD with being a spy and almost losing his mind and memory of who he really is. in a way he was portrayed as the villain in the beginning but somehow in a new perspective he's becoming a hero to stop the original hero turned villain. it's amazing.
Jean is such a good character. Marco's death was the reason why he entered to the survey corps and then the others followed him. Jean said "Hey Marco, I can't even tell which are your bones anymore", since then he decided to fight for a future without titans and until now he remembers his dead friend. I love that about Shingeki and Jean, It doesn't matter how much time has passed, they remember and carry their deceased comrades in their hearts.

13:15 "Even though this happened 2,000 years ago...." actually, it happened 100 years ago, so it's quite recent if you think about it. 13:27 "or should we just let it go? you know what happen all those years ago, to us? just let it be??" i think, this way of thinking would apply to Magath, Malayans and the Entire World.
The founding titan was created 2,000 years ago. The royal family of the Eldians then spent many years exerting their strength on the rest of the world. Eventually they stopped and moved to Paradise Island. 100 years ago was when the walls were created and the memories of the Eldians were wiped.
The Annie pie situation from last episode, apparently it’s a subtle nod at Sasha. Like previously Annie was this total badass compared to Mikasa and suddenly she’s stuffing her face like Sasha! Some people are saying Connie’s laugh was one of pain because it reminded him of her.
Yeah don’t listen to them it’s just that Connie laughs whenever the situation is too much for him like in Season 3 when he laughed when Bertholdt transformed. Would’ve been a flashback or something to show it was because of Sasha if that was true
13:10 Just quick reminder, the Paradis Island operation was never about revenge. That was just the narrative they used to recruit warriors. The Marlayeans just wanted the territory and resources. Just plain old imperialism.
I think Sheera said this already somewhere, but you can't justify Eren's tragedy and his genocide at the same time. If you accept that him killing the rest of the world is the price they have to pay for saving Paradis, then you also have to accept that Marley sending Titans to Paradis and killing tons of innocent people was also "the price they have to pay" for peace. You can't call one right and one wrong.
Marley sending titans to Paradis was the price they have to pay for peace? The world was already at peace when king Fritz flew to the island and made the three walls. The war ended in that moment. It started again when Marley sent Reiner and the others, and now Eren is going on with the rumbling after the whole world declared war on Paradis with Willy Tybur. If Eren didn't start the rumbling, Paradis would have been wiped out. Eren had to choose: the enemy (which is the whole world) or my friends and loved ones. Now he is going to destroy a world that was ready to kill innocent people, just because in the past their ancestors did wrong things, but they have nothing to do with all of that. The rumbling is obviously wrong, but Eren really couldn't do anything else if he wanted to protect Paradis, and it all started because of Marley. Eren is fighting for the peace of his people, Marley just wanted to kill the eldians because of their past

I have to agree with Jean here. The Eldians may have done horrible things in the past to the Marleyans but no one that suffered through those atrocities is alive now. Marelyans are the ones who know about the past and are still continuing the cycle of hatred and violence. They're living comfortably and in power yet still treat Eldians like trash, segragating them, and even trying to wipe them out if though none of the ones living now had anything to do with the past. Difference between their actions and Marley is that Marley's attack was unprovoked, the things the people on Paradis did was responding was in kind, it was war
True but you also gotta remember that this all started because the old Eldia empire essentially did the same thing to everyone else, and instead of really answering for that at all the king just took some of the people to the walls and hid. You can’t really not answer for what you did, that won’t fix peoples feeling or what happened. Just acting like it’s all in the past does nothing but makes people angry because it address nothing.

So it's not right to do anything to them except maybe ask for an acknowledgement of the atrocities the world went through.
Not completely. The Marleyans and the world are hostile towards Eldians and Paradis under the pretext of historical retribution. The Eldians had a literal thousand year reich where they basically acted like Dark Age Nazis and officially espoused supremacist laws where they were on top and everyone else was subject to them. That's why Eren has no choice. That's why neither did the World. What needed to happen was that one side had to act the bigger person here to stop the cycle, and being people, no one wanted that role. The Eldians threw hate and got hate back from the World they abused. The World continued throwing hate even at the children of those who once hurt them. But they went too far and they ended up aggroing the kid whose hate would one day ruin them all. And that kid? Intends to do so _decisively and definitively._

that's why i think this series is one of the GOATs. the weaving of the story since the BEGINNING and all the payoffs that are about to happen (i read the manga). the story and character development is masterful not just the action/animation/music. it's brilliant.

Jean and Magath using the exact same logic to justify their beliefs and Yelena calling everyone out on their shit is the epitome of this episode. Also, just to clarify, the world's domination from titan power didn't just happen and end 2000 years ago, rather it persisted for 2000 years and ended 109 to 110 years ago.
2 key things to note is that 1 Marley was being oppressed for 2000 years and it only truly ended 100 or so years ago so it's still pretty fresh for them. 2nd most people in Marley even Reiner's squad didn't know anything about the people on paradise all they knew was what they were told that their devils that r trying to kill them all, no one other than a few high ups knew that paradise was basically mind wiped and would never attack.

i think, this way of thinking would apply to Magath, Malayans and the Entire World.

@@chance258 It can easily be both
13:10 Just quick reminder, the Paradis Island operation was never about revenge.
Exactly. Both sides are justified in some way, but both are also unequivocally morally in the wrong.
facts
Damn that's a good point. Surprised this is the first time I've seen someone point this out
It's always "morally" right or "morally" wrong
This is the episode many people needed because many still have the misinterpretation that them joining forces to stop global genocide = Forgiving each other , which isn’t true at all

@@byronicmaren2709 k , wasn’t arguing if they support Eren or not or ideals on genocide , but the reason they are joining forces is for their own selfishness and to stop Eren from killing everyone which includes their loved ones and to save the world, then joining forces doesn’t mean they forgive one another

Levi: Well, clearly I don’t need to be a part of this.
jean was 100% justified in caving reiner’s face in. i can’t imagine the pain of losing your best friend and not knowing how or why he died. especially with reiner saying he didn’t know what was happening. i know he wasn’t looking for sympathy but that was the last thing jean needed to hear after that bombshell was dropped
Annie was sitting right there. Just because Reiner gave her the order doesen't mean she has to follow through it.
Plus, none of them have any superior moral ground over the other now. If anything, Reiner deserves to cave everyone's face in for the death of Bertolt, Porco, Udo, Zofia, The list goes on and on for him.

@@bordan1311 He didn't act like the victim. He literally said "don't forgive me" and we already know that Reiner views himself as pathetic and needing to be killed by those he's wronged. If anything, Reiner kept talking to piss off Jean enough to finally kill him.
Anyone else catch that the girl in Jean's 'dream' at the beginning of the episode is Mikasa? The scar on her face kekw
Erin, despite genocide obviously being wrong, is going through with the rumbling as a form of defence. The eldians were minding their own business far away from anyone, yet they were attacked, their walls brought down, their people murdered, and the whole world being recruited to wipe them out. This is all happening NOW not 2000 years ago so Jean's point stands.
This series is so nuanced and realistic (despite the premise), it's crazy.
Whole story seems to go like how Dr. Manhattan made himself the villain for the world to get along together!
The Scouts couldn't find a solution.

@@anjaneyasreetrout2444 a bit?
The situation was impossible. Erwin couldn't have found a solution to this.
@@chance258 I assure you Armin didn't talk to Annie all 4 years, he was determined to find a plan like Hange but the situtation was impossible. Talking to Annie was an escape for him, he felt comfort in it.
It all boils down to the situation, calling Hange and Armin useless is a very lazy argumemt. What could they have done? Erwin couldn't have made a better decision, I think he would have gone for the partial rumbling plan which only prolongs the issue.
Paradis is doomed in any situtation and Hange said that only achieving freedom for Paradis (which is impossible) is narrow minded and none of the previous scouts, Erwin included, would do it.
And it's not like Eren "gave" them 4 years. We all know how Eren finally came to the Rumbling plan, and it's not like he did it "only" for Paradis or his friends, "...but it was more than that" as Chapter 131 states.

if only world leaders would set for a stew and talk like that the world would be fine
This episode had a lot of conversation, but it was still so intense. Two sides that have been fighting for more than 2,000 years finally sit down and talk before things escalate. Majority of the pain in AoT could’ve been prevented if they simply talked. It actually tells you how understanding Marco was when he immediately just wanted to talk despite knowing Reiner and the squad’s secrets. It’s a shame it took genocide for the sides to finally sit and talk.
Yes! That part hurt when Marco last words were to talk it out. Man so much could of changed with talking about it.
Bro, when I watched that part with Marco it cemented Isayama's genius to me. I always found that line ("why are you leaving, we haven't even talked it out yet") peculiar when they showed us the flashback in season 2 or 3. This man set up everything perfectly!

@@deadmeme902 to be fair, they don’t know the full story about the past and neither do we, who aren’t manga readers. They hid within the walls and caused no problems for Atleast a 100 years. There was no reason attack, all they did was poke the bear, and that bear is about to commit gennoacide. They only have themselves to blame
@@deadmeme902 It's understandable how the rest of the world feels to an extent. They issue is they're taking it out on the wrong people.
Any land/wealth they lost to Eldia was returned to them after the King fled. That obviously doesn't make up for the lives lost and the suffering faced but the people who did those things are long dead. The current people of Paradis really don't owe anyone anything and they can't make up for anything either.
FACTS Willy Tybur said "THIS IS A DECLARATION OF WAR".
So Eren and Paradis is just following through on that
