      @@ThisBytesForYou i would also like to ask you, if you are overclocking expert, i put bios OC, i tried to put some coreclock + 100mhz, but the gpu doesn't go beyond 1950mhz boost frequency, it really should go to 2050mhz, but it goes for a few seconds and then it comes back. i ask you why i'm waiting for the waterblock ek, and i'm not used to having the air-cooled gpu, and my thought is that it swings so why the weakening comes in due to the temperature, possible? thank you

    This was actually super useful. Nobody else covers this app like this that I have found so far. My fans were not turning on at all and I had been sitting at 54°C wondering when they'd kick in.

      Always a pleasure my friend, so very happy you stopped by, trusted in me to help you, liked and subbed as well as took a moment out of your day to thank me. It means a ton to me and I am so very happy I could help you. Thats why I made this video, I hate the 0db feature they have, that the fans turn on only when it hits 60°C, I think it's stupid, I want my fans to always be on keeping it nice and cool, maybe not spinning so quickly, but still on, if they are off, then kick on, you hear a little click, and that is even more annoying, to me at least. So happy I could help you.

    • @GregLloyd76
      @GregLloyd76 Рік тому +2

      That is by design though with the normal non-overclock bios. It's designed to fan stop below a certain temperature to allow your PC to be silent whenever you are not gaming. The idle temp will sit around 50 - 55c during fan stop and that's perfectly fine. Having the idle temp drop to 27c with fans on really makes no menaingful difference as it's only cool like that at idle. Once you game, temps will be similar between both bios options except for the OC bios will attempt to push higher clocks by allowing more power. Having said all that, I personally just run the normal bios and then enable a fixed fan speed of 33% which keeps the idle temp at 30c and climbs to between 70c and 80c in gaming depending on which game it is. I think fans ramping up and down with different load is far more annoying than anything else. And anything above 50% is plain loud and annoying.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  Рік тому +3

      But maybe he prefers it to be cooler, my videos gives people options that might now know. Personally I don't want my fans off at all but running slowly at least.

    Man thank you so much I was so worried because over the months I have seen my gpu temp going up and these past weeks I have seen climbs like never before I was up in the 80s when gaming in competitive shooters like apex and Warzone even idle I was sitting in the high 50s and with the aggressive switch it has cooled the gpu down. Thank you sir. 😊

    @ThisBytesForYou Question! I just got this card, what are the best undervolt settings? Also EVGA's product page is saying Total Power Draw : 350 Watts, but if you look at techpowerups review they have it at 434 Watts while gaming, i have an EVGA SuperNOVA 750watt G3 power supply and i am concerned if it will be enough, i thought maybe if i undervolted and/or set a lower power limit i would be fine?

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  2 роки тому +1

      smart of you to be concerned my friend, on EVGA's site it states a Minimum of a 750 Watt power supply, Minimum... That means the system it was tested with had the basics, one drive, a standard processor, motherboard, 1 or 2 sticks of ram and that's about it. In the real world, systems have 2 or more drives, a decent CPU, 4 sticks of RAM, and maybe some other extra's even worse if you are overclocked. Also, this has 3 PCIE 8Pins, NVIDIA recommends that you plug in one PCIE cable each, not daisy chained, which is horrible. On the EVGA forums its a mixed choice, but I say you can't go wrong with 1 per 8Pin, I use a 1000Watt G3.
      As for undervolt, I don't use that yet, i may test it at some point but I am so backed up on reviews, make sure you are subscribed and have the notification bell clicked (a like doesn't hurt either ;) ), I think you may enjoy this mondays video, stay tuned my friend.

      well, problem is undervolting is trendy right now and it will be for a little longer, I don't undervolt. Undervolting is actually nice, but is lowering the voltage where the product might need to be, so you might experience random bluescreens and such, sometimes you won't hit that bluescreen for a long time and then people blame it on other things, not their overclock (undervolting is also considered overclocking). As far as I know, you can max the voltage slider as well. It doesn't actually increase the voltage, it just gives the card the ability to increase it as needed in an overclocking situation for example. I got this information from another video I watched almost a year ago, what do you think?

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  Рік тому +2

      yes, you can raise the slider without risking killing the card, but it does freak me out still hahah. Its not that it pushes that much voltage through it, its that it allows you to utilize that much voltage safely.

But I’m scared it won’t be enough for the evga ftw3 3080ti especially if I overclock the cpu and gpu. What kinda full system power draw are you getting? • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  2 роки тому +1

      The card requires a 650Watt power supply, in a full system (not 650 on its own) on a 5950, I would think you would be pulling close to 500Wattsm but you would be playing with the efficiency. I will be building a new system very soon on here, I will take you along for the ride, stay tuned and in there I will do some power reading as well. For me, I always go 1000Watts or higher, sure it might be too much today, but I bought my 1200Watt 10 years ago, never had to replace it, people that buy just what the card needs, upgrade every year or so, save money and go bigger.... although with newer cards on the market in september, they may introduce a new connector, which there are adapters for, but I will see what they have then.

    I have the same card you are using in the video. My ambient temps in my house are usually around 23c. I know I have a pretty bad case for airflow so I sometimes have to take the glass panels off to reduce temps (NZXT H510 Elite) even with the glass panels off under 99-100% GPU load my GPU temp sits at around 81c highest I have seen it is at 84c. Is this safe for this particular card? I have been looking for the manufacturer temp information for this card but I have not been able to find it. Any information would really help and or suggestions. I have only the case stock fans in and I have an air cooled CPU Ryzen 7 5800x. Noctua NH-U12S

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  2 роки тому +3

      I am usually at 17c, I like it nice and cold, so does a PC. While 23c is not bad, it gets amplified inside of a case, since depending on your fan positioning and the amount of fans you have, hot air is being trapped. While I have an H510 in the box, I haven't touched it yet, it looks like a thermal nightmare, every one I see has to remove side panel, probably better to remove the front glass, horrible design. As long as you have 2 fans in the front, blowing air in, a rear fan sucking air out and the top fan sucking air out... you should be ok.
      I am in the process of making a bunch of videos, but I will be making one for the 3080ti like this, this will help you and it will also update the firmware on the card: ua-cam.com/video/uO351_LhGh8/v-deo.html, let me know how it helps.

      Supposedly, but I wouldn't recommend it. You have to imagine, people much smarter than us on this front have carefully made these changes in the firmware to make everything work perfectly. They have tweaked and tuned everything to not only work, but maybe be a little ahead of what is expected to catch the unexpected, many times that it why the voltage is a little higher. Many times lower the voltages helps cool down the card, but for some reason now you are getting weird bluescreens and many people blame the card, but it is infact what they have done to the card that has caused the issue. My recommendation is to leave it alone, provide the card with adequate cooling and you will be fine. Thanks so much for your kind words and I hope I have helped.

If you correctly undervolt you can usually trade a tiny 0-3% performance while hugely lowering heat, power usage and noise(fan RPM). If you have heat issues you can actually "gain" performance from undervolting, either way its not worth leaving these cards running at stock.

    Is it better to use this software as opposed to msi afterburner? My card has been running extremely hot with msi afterburner, (75C @ ~70% utilization). I’ve been even contemplating replacing the thermal paste and adding additional thermal pads to the back of the PCB and connecting to the backplate for additional heat sinking. Do you know if the firmware installer updates the actual vbios? Or does it only update the fan controllers? I appreciate this video since I recently purchased this exact same card and have it set to the “OC” vbios, and it’s insanely frustrating how the card will gain a substantial amount of temperature for being fps capped @ 1080p.

      @@ThisBytesForYou Sorry, I should’ve initially stated that it is the exact same card as this video’s (EVGA 3080 Ti Ultra ftw3). However, after following your process and updating the firmware, I used the OC scanner, and found that I was able to achieve the exact same thermal performance @ ~ +100Mhz (MSI afterburner went up to 75C @ ~1905Mhz). So my card is reaching that 75C thermal fps cap limit on precision X1, at a more efficient rate when topping off at 1995-2005Mhz. So whatever precision installed/updated for me, resolved a major concern for me. Don’t know if I should even consider replacing the thermal paste at this point. This is quite the significant difference, and I wonder if other EVGA 30-series cards could see a benefit when moving over to precision from afterburner. Ideally, I could even lower the OC a small amount for substantial thermal and acoustic performance gains.

      @@joselaba Precision is made by EVGA, the people that made your card, they are going to know better what their card needs than MSI, people that make their own NVIDIA based cards. Precision updates the firmware for EVGA cards, MSI cannot do that. You could achieve much better, but you have to find out how thick the thermal pads are on the card if not you could severely negatively affect performance. I think a better idea is to leave it alone, let it do its thing. Adjust the fans in your case, to provide overall better airflow in the case which will provide better cooling for the card and drop the temperature in your house, if you have the heater on, things get hotter.

      @@ThisBytesForYou oh yeah I agree. It’s just extremely strange to see such a drastic change in thermal performance (arguably the 2nd most important characteristic of GPU Cards) from a firmware update of an OC/monitoring piece of software. Thermals we’re so bad that I was even considering installing an entire dedicated water loop for my card since my 12900k is utilizing an AIO like your setup. I also can’t help but wonder if these same thermal characteristics would remain the same, since it’s a firmware update, and transfer over to MSI afterburner. Also, I was under the impression that afterburner is a universal piece of software, and could be used as an efficient OC-tool/monitor.

    My question is which direction does the air flow? Do the fans pull in cool air and push it in to the radiator or do they pull hot air from the radiator and exhaust in to the case?

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  2 роки тому +1

      you want cool air coming in from the front, ideally, you want regular fans in the front, as the air would be unobstructed allowing more air in, but that's not always possible. With that said, in this system, I have fans blowing in from the front of the case, sucking cool air in, then 3 other fans on the side, sucking cool air in. The radiator is sucking air out, exhausting "hot" air from the case but since I have so many fans blowing in, there is little to no hot air, so it is still pulling cool air, even if I were to overclock, it would pull in cool air, cooling itself. I have the rear fan also exhausting.

      @@ThisBytesForYou excellent. Thank you. Been struggling with cooling my new 3080ti ftw3 a little bit. I got a microcenter bare bones build with a titan x? Case. Its setup for cpu water cooling which I have not set up yet but the front and side panels are solid glass/acrylic. Also cant mount a fan on the rear at all. Generally seems like a bad case for air flow but I got 2 intake fans below the gpu and one on the side/bottom, 3 exhaust fans on the top where the radiator(included with case) is and one extra exhaust on the top/side. I'm using some old fans but gpu temps are in 60- low 70's C usually (default clock and voltage settings). I have space for one more fan on the side. I also have space for one more on the bottom/center but there is some cabling connected to the mobo in the way that prevents me from puting the fan in there. I'm hoping I can further improve the situation by getting some lower profile connectors and installing more/newer fans. AHHHHHH, thats an NZXT or NZXT Clone case, that is your HUGE issue they are starving for air, you have 3 fans pulling air n at the front.... but from where, little tiny holes on the side of the case.... it needs more air. So do you have the back, the exhaust against the wall, or with more than a foot of space to breath, take it out of the cubby, it needs to breath. Take it out of the cubby, put it on the desk, don't hide it, you are proud of your PC. In a cubby things get hot. Do the machine still have a warranty on it?
