I knew almost everyone in that video. I started out pedicabing in Nyc. Worked with the guys at Revolution Rickshaws. Worked Central Park with Patrick and the guys. Pedicabs are the best way to get around the city during rush hour. Period. We beat cars in traffic. I have pedicabed in four different states now , I still miss NYC. I will be back! Here' s a tip to people wanting to take a pedicab ride. Tell them where you are going and how fast you want to get there. Then ask how much. Any real pedicabber can get around midtown in 15mins or less. The most 20.
I firmly love your project Subculture. It showed me the respect we need to have for the people who do things different, how they commit mistakes and the way they create from them.
long-time peidcab veteran in nyc here: while i thank you for what i think is a supportive comment, your statement is not factual. i work almost exclusively in rush hour and i am almost always faster than a yellow cab in rush hour for trips under two miles. i can fit soooo many places that cars can't, and because i have three wheels i don't have to concern myself with balancing and can literally turn on a dime. nyc is the only city in the country with a metal rush hour for pedicabs.
To be sure, y'all - it's not a job: it's an adventure. It's literally not a job - it's a practice, as I note in the video (no hourly wages, benefits, paid time off, etc.). Quite a brutal, beautiful one, to be sure. If you can sell Sno Kones to eskimos, then you probably can tap the midtown passenger transport ATM for a living; otherwise, it's gonna be a non-starter. Get in touch with Revolution Rickshaws if you want to give it a shot!
Wow! I pedicab in Victoria and I think it is sometimes tough to get a ride. Check out the lineup of Pedicabs in NYC!!! We only ever have a lineup of 4 Pedicabs in prime spots.
Since these are a complete rip-off that charges many times as much as a cab. In NYC they can charge as much as they want as long as they post the prices. Legal is to post in fine print that you cannot read it. At $100 per PERSON, it is a HUGE cost increase for "green energy alternative." These folks make 4-5 times as much as a typical cabbie.
Dont be deceived. Its not an easy job. I`ve done it for two years. That guy who says that he works 12 hours is one of the best in the business, besides it he is the owner of one of the companies that rent the bikes, so he is not lying but thats not for everyone for sure.

They cost more and are slower than a taxi
these guys are worse then drug dealers. not only they rip off people that cant read english, but cause car accidents as well.
