So many people without helmets! I wish they started wearing nta helmets like xnito or bern hudson, they're better than cpsc helmets, and def better than no helmet at all
it's awesome to see how people ride when they don't know someone is following and filming. just them doing their true, everyday thing. great video as always and looking forward to more of these.
@@gaspring12345 And he's probably glad he ain't, NY is a overpopulated shithole and the people there have no respect at all, oh and getting to work and back is just a complete clusterfuck of traffic, it takes you 30 minutes to go 1 mile.

The cars really don't drive fast in new york city. People say they do. But that's just because they make a lot of sounds on the crappy bumpy road. They do like 15 or 25. Mostly 15. And a red light there is a red light. Or else the nypd will smoke you with a super expensive ticket. I've been to nyc many times before. I just never rode my bike there.
I think his point is that people shouldn't get so mad when cyclists bend the rules bc everyone is constantly doing illegal shit, getting in the way of bikes
I love love love your videos. Aside from the excellent biking it also makes for great site seeing. High up camera angle, super crisp footage, and mostly centred in the street so I get a good view of all the surrounding buildings, people, and traffic. Makes me wants to visit NYC so badly. You guys should make a video ripping around on Citi bikes just for fun. Keep doing what you do. It's perfect. I'd like to see more of Terrys face now and again.
Good one Terry, yes this series is a nice contrast to your other videos. You can expect a huge adrenaline rush when you follow your usual pros but with these guys you never know what you going to get and at the same time is more liking to us mortals.
On running red lights, from a person who's experienced riding bikes in cities: A lot of the time, it's about evaluating risk. If you run a red light when pedestrian lights are green on all four crossings, it's safer, because all cars are stopped at the intersections. Same for if there's a red light without an accompanying crossing, which is used to help filter vehicle traffic and allow people to cross. No cars will be crossing your path, so it's safer to do (like 7:09, or 9:10). If there's a red light and no upcoming crossing on your side of the road, it's generally safe to run the red and hug really close to the kerb. Also, it's a bit safer to run reds on quieter, slower city streets (like 6:09). At these times, you can listen to hear if there might be cars coming across that you can't see. At 3:52, it was his right of way to cross as he couldn't have stopped in time. At 0:32 he didn't run a red, look closely at the lights. It's really risky to run a red light going left on a T junction like at 1:05, and situations like 8:38 and 10:40 are really inadvisable. He should have stopped. These are the only three that I think are terrible decisions. People on bikes mostly run these kinds of red lights if they're distracted, inexperienced, or stupid. We all make mistakes on bad days. *All of these decisions to run red lights can lead to collisions that can maim or kill you, and they're all illegal*. Videos of people weaving through heavy city traffic without wearing helmets and running reds indiscriminately are terrifying to me, not just because that could kill them, but because of the message that sends, and the behavior that encourages. There are so many chances for you to get caught between cars, or under a HGV. Running red lights, weaving and riding on pavement can be done more responsibly. As the guy says at 8:38, there really are a lot of grey areas in responsible bike-riding, one being running red lights. I also agree with what he says about being fine with people walking in the bike lane, as long as they don't do anything extra stupid. Being wary of these situations is a big part of riding a bike through a city. There's only so much you can do, you just make your way past when it's safe, and try not to have a collision. The sad truth is that if people on bikes stopped at every single red light they came across, bike journeys in cities like this would be infeasible and really slow. In my opinion, bike infrastructure like segregated cycleways and more sophisticated traffic light systems are most important solution, but until then, people on bikes have to make do, and sometimes that means running red lights when it's safe.
Its day and night on the west coast for me the traffic when I'm riding in the day is too fast and unpredictable but at night I blow reds like its going out of style
