    -Spend two months building a model locomotive;
    -Spend three weeks painting and lining it out;
    -See the best part of three months' work ruined before your eyes when the varnish goes milky within seconds of application.
    Not best pleased.

      I've gone back to my old method- watered down PVA. Dries to a satin finish, is DEFINITELY water soluble (unlike Clear, which isn't), doesn't smell, dries quickly and doesn't go cloudy.

    This depends on what finish you are looking for. If you paint and then dip in Clear then your paint will be glossy. Alternatively you could dip in Clear and then paint, this would give you a gloss/glass like appearance and then your matt paint on top.

    I like Humbrol for a lot of applications, but for a clearcoat Alclad is way better IMO. You do have to airbrush it, but it goes on thin, dries fast and hard. I love it. And probably because it’s such a thin coat (compared to brushing Humbrol), I think it has a more reasonable sense of depth and sheen. Just a thought.

And not just about Humbrol products but about scale modelling in general :) I have a question: I have painted a plastic figure using bronze acrylic paint. After basecoating, I brushed on two thin coats of Clear, waiting between each coat. After that I used black enamel paint with enamel thinners and mixed a wash. Everything was ok but after a few minutes the model started to turn white, foggy. Any ideas?

    I have used Humbrol clear in 1/35 figures.in the figures painted only with acrylics I didn't have any problem at all but in figures primed with enamel and acrylic over it when I used Humbrol clear I had this misty,white upon them.Thus,my conclusion is that Humbrol clear works only with acrylics not with enamel so be careful.

    • @Rorynes
      @Rorynes 7 років тому +1

      I decided to use it again in my next dragon figures.But everything went ok and no milky stains.I think that as Humbrol says it has to do with humidity and cold weather.The previous figure maybe didn't get dry completly and that caused the milky stains to appear in some points.This time i had my figures in room temperature and Clear worked.So,what I understood is that Humbrol Clear and Humbrol Cotes should be sprayed in room conditions without humidity.Also in case that they appear you can remove by applying a varnish from another firm.
