The chipping effect? Totally!!! Very smart and awesome effect so easy achieved with maskol, very good alternative, if not the best?

I am a model builder for over 20 years, and with Your channel I can learn many new ways to improve my skills. I didn't realised that with Maskol I can make a "rusty signs". Gotta test it on my new tanks ;)
Thank You, Humbrol, for this channel!
    Cheers,

To clarify. If a canopy has been treated with Humbrol clear gloss to create a glass effect, does this mean Maskol cannot be used to mask it when painting the canopy frame?

Using maskol for replicating chipping effect looks like a good alternative to the salt and hairspray method I've seen demonstrated elsewhere.

An informative video. I am just getting back into model making after a number a decades doing other things. One thing I have learnt and rad about is prepping the surface before painting. This includes decreasing the surface as fingers leave a grease marks. I notice that the body of the tank, while still being a paint work in progress, was being held by bare hands rather than gloved hands. Does finger grease not materially affect the importance of humbrol products?

Hi, I am a newbie to airbrushing and using masking solution and need your expert suggestion on how to properly remove the masking solution without scratching the underlying base paint I applied. I am working on a Tamiya Leopard A4 and the two-color camouflage scheme requires that I first airbrush a layer of red brown, applied masking solution to outline the camouflage pattern, then airbrush the olive drab over the red brown and the masking solution. But maybe I applied too thin a layer of masking solution or too thick a layer of the olive drab paint, when I tried to remove the masking solution using
a small tweezers, I always scratched the underlying red brown paint. And since I applied a thin layer of masking solution (I used the Mr. Hobby Masking Sol R), it’s become difficulty to discern the contour of the masking solution under the 2 layer of the olive drab paint! Do you have any suggestion? As a last resort, I might just spray over the scratched surface and use the one-color camouflage scheme. Thanks for any suggestions!

One of the best chipping effect ever seen! And so easy to do this way! No hair spray, no salt, easy.
My humbrol maskol is not so creamy. It is more thick. What can I use as thinner to make it more easy to use with a brush?

    • @IAMDEATH2010

im guessing from the way it can be cleaned from a brush with water that it can be thinned with water.

I have a question - you sprayed grey acrylic over the rust colour and maskol in the last demonstration on this video and then used enamel thinners to bleed the rust. I use enamel paints to spray, so would using the enamel thinners still be safe to use to bleed the rust? or would this take off my grey enamel painted finish? cheers. Dave

I never succeeded to apply Maskol: the maskol always dry fast, the brush is quickly rubbered.
I wet and wet and wet the brush, and wet again, and wet as possible to be wet and the maskol always dry on the brush before I had time to apply more than 10 seconds... It drives me crazy, I already killed 5 brush to try to apply maskol.
That's the mystery trick to succeed !!??

Mikromask doesn't smell, and maskol can be quite smelly, but the appearence i got is that maskol will be easier to remove. Micro mask dries as a thin plastic film, while maskol seems to dry like rubber or latex. I can do a deeper review once i tested it.

Thanks for that great info. One of the things I really like is how the maskol is rubberlike. After seeing the weathering techniques they did toward the end of the video I think this is the product for me. I have used other Microscale products and have personally never been impressed although others sear by them.
I think it's all personal preferences and availability of products. I personally love Tamiya paints, yet I know a lot of people that can't stand them. I also love Polyscale which is no longer made :(
