My worst fear comes true trying to leave Nigeria [S7-E67]

  • In this episode I am crossing the land border from Nigeria into Cameroon. This year's rainy season has been exceptionally long and intense in West Africa and unfortunately still haunting me. I know I have to cross a river and my worst enemy is the rain, making this river crossing dangerous, as well as the jungle tracks extremely slippery. Once I step out of the immigration office on the Nigeria side, I see dark clouds and the first rain drops are starting to fall...

Thank you so much for this particular video. My Dad passed through these roads in the ’70s, the ’80s and ’90s going to Nigeria to buy goods and come sell them in Cameroon just to take care of us. I remember going through that Nigeria/Cameroon border on one of those cars parked at the fuel station. Trust me those cars are the ONLY strong cars that can battle with that road. Your video just brought up so many beautiful childhood memories and made me want to hug my Dad right now.
Thank you Itchy, God will continue to Protect you throughout your journey 🙏

As someone who loves riding his motorcycle, I find it more than a little intimidating that I'm practically exhausted just watching Noraly ride these insane roads as covering more than 60kms of this craziness in a single day before starting it all over again in the morning. Though she's been doing this for tens of thousands of kms, the stamina and endurance is still flabbergasting, especially when you consider she still loves doing it.

You know what all of these videos remind me of, particularly through the undeveloped areas of Africa and rural Central America?
The Oregon Trail. It just makes me imagine what life must have been like slowly trundling along in a wagon loaded with everything you own, across thousands of kilometres of woodland trails and dirt paths, struggling up hills and through mud. It really takes a lot of grit and determination to do this!

Good survival instincts when she said she didn't know where she'd sleep. I used to travel across Africa for commodities in my car years ago when I first discovered google maps. People weren't really using it much in Nigeria then in 2012. I would go to places I'd never been to and even go off road for short cuts. Once, I got delayed and was travelling late (or early) in the A.M. Two guys on two bikes drove past me and stopped in front. I parked my car then turned off my lights. It was pitch dark. After some time, they started their bikes and left. They saw I was not going to go forward to them and they probably thought for someone to park and turn of his lights, it's probably not a good idea for them to come to me. Thinking back, I was taking a lot of risks. God really guided and protected me.

After all the love, admiration, respect, goodwill and well wishes you've been experiencing since you started your adventure in Africa, you finally smeared everything by destroying the lives of those two indisciplined policemen and making laughing stuck of our beloved country by posting that viral video that has caused them their livelihood as well as those depending on them. Can you imagine gravity of your action, calculated or innocent ?
Desperation may lead them to metamorphose into something more sinister and detrimental to the society. I don't condone in form of indisciplined from any security personnel who should know better, but l expect you to be understanding, smarter 9:55 9:55 9:55 and humane even for your safety especially being alone and female. What l want to clarify hear is that misconduct and indisciplined in form corruption is everywhere and not only peculiar to our country alone. Even the Netherlands is no exception nor immune to corruption. As a matter of fact it's one of the most notorious corruption mecca of Europe. The point is that Holland is very wealthy and workers are well paid so petty corruption is almost nonexistent. However, when big capital is involved the whole world is aware the Netherlands is a very fertile group for corruption in high places by the untouchables and a network of very dangerous criminal syndicates
Sometimes even protected by the law etc. The biggest port in Europe is situated in Rotherham where % 80 of the illicit narcotics in Europe and many rich countries is transited and distributed ,but only less than %10 is being intercepted with very few foot soldiers arrested. l've lived traveled extensively in Europe and l've seen alot. Each country has its system. In the richest countries it's top level and invisible while in the poor ones it's another ball game altogether. Young lady, have fun but be very careful because l can assure that all eyes are on you now as you're trending while monetizing. Wish happy Christmas and memorable adventure. Always remember that Africa is beautiful, very welcoming, sympathetic and tolerant with strangers regardless of challenges and discrepancies

    Hi Noraly,
I’m happy to see you ride safely into Cameroon 🇨🇲. I lived in the NW region for 2+ years as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I’m very familiar with your current environment. So cool to see your trip taking place there.
Ashia! Those roads are difficult but the people are friendly and kind. They will always help. You will always hear… You are Welcome. We are together. Nous sommes ensemble.
The roads have a lot of clay. They are very slippery. Not much can be done about it. Very common across the country. Please enjoy the large skies, rolling hills, big mountains and lush valleys. It is beautiful.
Drive carefully in urban environments! There are many skilled moto riders but also some risky car drivers. Not to mention large trucks, heavy lorries, big busses, etc.
Ndolé uses “bitterleaf”. You will see other tasty dishes. Have some egg-spaghetti, but don’t leave without njama njama and fufu. Some rice with peanut sauce is great, as well as white yam and haricots (beans) :) tasty. French fries are simply called “irish potatoes”, as opposed to sweet potato.
Security-wise, the NW and SW is still unstable. The political conflict has made life very difficult for locals. There are non-government armed forces around. They have their mission. But so do the very large and present armed government forces.
Waka fine. Wish you luck on your journey through “Africa in Miniature” and prove yourself une lionesse indomitable. Bonne chance et un joyeux noël.
