In ratio to the lots of Nigerian policemen she met on her journey within the context of that video, how many policemen fit into your statement "our police"?.

I lived and worked in a small town in Nigeria from 1979-81, and rode a motorcycle to get around and also travel around the country. "What did you bring me?" is like a common greeting. I asked my Nigerian friends how to answer it, and they said to laugh it off as Noraly did, or respond with a joke, or say "Next time." Everyone who goes from point A to point B gets asked that, not just white women! And obviously people can't be carrying around gifts for every single person they meet, especially on a motorcycle. Nigerian culture is very "in your face" and extroverted compared to other countries in West Africa, which I also visited. I had to get used to it, but it was a relief to return to my introverted side when I left.
Noraly your determination to ride in lands that are challenged by poor governance is incredible. Your videos show good honest locals just trying to live lives while putting up with poor roads & never ending road blocks. Your videos show how people endure & overcome their circumstances. Stay safe.

After watching this video, I am really really starting to see Nigerians and African people with a new lens. I really respect their calm, happy and positive nature. Love such people. Nigerians are so humble and fun and amazing.
You are brave for this. As a Nigerian American , I went to Nigeria this summer. I traveled from Lagos to Ilorin by car and the amount of corrupt police officers that we had to bribe was unbelievable. The road conditions are also really bad and driving is really rough and dangerous as only locals can really drive in nigeria so you’re really brave for this.
Can we just spend a minute to appreciate those police officers who welcomed you into our country and asked for nothing in return, because that is not normal behaviour.
As a Gambian residing in the UK, as I watch this video from an unbiased standpoint, it is evident that there are still exceptional and courteous police officers who warmly embrace everyone, as showcased in these videos. However, there are still many corrupt and morally compromised individuals in the police force, hindering the progress and growth not only of the country but also of Africa as a whole.
I saw mostly smiling welcoming faces in this video and one dick who just thought he could try it on. I`ve had holidays in Gambia and Kenya, got out and about among the locals and most people are lovely but you will encounter the ones who just want money for nothing, that`s the same story wherever you go in the world
To a great extent, this video shows how peaceful, adventurous, happy and accommodating Nigerians are. This is different from the negative and abusive picture that is always shown to the outside world about the country. Every nation have its own good and bad so everyone can have a positive perspective (without discriminating) of The country.
The roads are a national embarrassment, the cops are an even bigger embarrassment. Thank God they were dismissed, but I hope this would be the last time security officials embarrass us like this.
@@adedotunadeniran8230 See who is talking, if they have roads like this in other parts of the world, should we be copying the bad things from those parts. When I worked in Nigeria I learned to keep a $20 in my pocket and hide the rest of my money. That way when the inevitable demand for “gratuity” came from the police or other government official, I could plead that the $20 was all I had. It happened a lot. Those stereotypes don’t come from nowhere.
@@rick262 Yep, I'm 66 years old and I usually do the same when I travel in my own country Romania. And to be honest, the same thing happened to me almost everywhere in Eastern Europe. Don't worry. The UK police do it too. Here in Britain, they don't expicitly ask you for money for themselves, like we saw in this video, but they try to find something with which they can "fine you" with - any excuse to claim you are "breaking the law' so that they can collect revenue from people. @@Arounadabout He was very close to demanding payment. I guarantee if there was anything wrong with her driving or her paperwork she would have been forced to pay.
I had the exact same experience at Abuja International Airport after arrival. An official (lady) at the final security check just before the airport's exit confiscated my suitcase and said "Give me something". When I told her I don't understand, she said again, "Give me something, anything", and refused to release my suitcase until I complied. All of this happened right in front of several heavily armed security officers (maybe military), all of them heard this, but none of them interjected, even when I protested. Apparently this is perfectly normal in Nigeria.
I am Nigerian. I was traveling out lately and I was asked for money by about 5-6 different staffs at different checkpoint. When I told my friend about the experience, he told me that they were all in it together. That at the end of each work day, they split the money they have collected from "tasking" travelers among themselves. In the meantime, I would like to ask you a question. Are you born again?

I did 6 years in Nigeria thanks to my dad. Very rich culturally, but anybody in any sort of administrative position is going to be crazy corrupt. A lot of those unofficial checkpoints are just off duty soldiers and cops trying to shake down motorists. No shame!

Your good natured but firm response to the road blockers is impressive. I would hate to be a truck driver in this country. I love seeing the world through your experiences. Best to you !
Corruption exists in most countries.. What sets Nigeria (and most African nations) apart is the sheer shamelessness with which money is demanded.. Its a rare mix of begging and extortion..
Sure, but not all forms of corruption are equal. In places like Western Europe for example you have cases like that some politician will be invited to a free vacation in exchange for giving some company a government deal, or stuff like insider trading. That is corruption too, but you won't have policemen and bureaucrats demand or even take money from regular citizens. So yes, there is corruption in most countries, but not this kind of corruption.
It's embarrassing, the attitude of corruption is becoming a major challenge in nigeria in quarters, not only the police even local security in our community collect bribe.
Its the way business works. Not the individuals fault, he is just trying to feed his family, the cost of living, it is the west who are in the country extorting the locals and looting their energy
Very impressed at the prompt response by Nigerian authorities. This chanel is followed by millions and obviously includes their superiors. Well done for the anti corruption drive Nigeria.
To be fair, I bet the fast response to corruption is the same reason corruption is so rampant in the first place. There's not much bureaucracy hindering things from moving fast, or going wrong.

I'm pretty much chuffed to see how well she has acclimatised to her surroundings! She's living her best life and showing us a different perspective from what the media think you should see! Its amazing and quite sad how we've become so domesticated and sheltered that we can't even dare! Kudos Noraly... I'll BE watching all your adventures and wishing you GODSPEED!!! ❤❤❤
I haven't seen much comments defending the corruption of the policemen. Corruption is bad but giving Nigeria and Nigerians bad publicity through degrading comments is bad.
Armed men stopping you at impromptu checkpoints every 5 minutes, checking you out, looking at your equipment, you nervously laugh and carry on if they let you. Living life one checkpoint at a time, looks like fun!
Nigeria was my favourite country (for it's people) on my UK to Cape Town trip. Lovely people and very welcoming, if a little tiresome at times. The corruption is a pain, but its the same everywhere in west Africa. Whilst the constant police stops wear you down, they are there to keep you safe ultimately. Roll with it, youve got this and at least you're making progress. Things get a little easier in Cameroon and much simpler by Angola (apart from the fuel shortages). Keep those wheels turning Norally 👍
You’re cool as a cucumber! I like that 99% of the officers welcomed you to Nigeria. Just shows how kind and welcoming they are. Still has me on the edge of my seat biting my nails!
In the normal countries the officers policies take care about other things. 1. This barrier is to stop people and ask for something. 2. This is very disrespect to any travelers. The Africa problem is not poorest place but poorest mentality. If changes this poorest mentality, the countries can change from they poorest in prosperity.
First, I'm so happy your channel found me. I'm a Black American who just returned from visiting Nigeria for the first time two weeks ago, and I fell in love with this country. Yes, there is "police corruption," but I learned that even that problem among some, not all, officers, as the video shows, is due to economic issues. No excuse, just a reality. Beyond that, this video actually proves that the vast majority of Nigerians you encounter are grateful, peaceful, and welcoming people. Noraly did not encounter any threats at all... something I found to be refreshing while there. I live in a large, modern metropolitan city here in the U.S. and trust me when I say there are neighborhoods here that Noraly would not have been safe traversing through with such amazing technological gear. In fact, her Alaska would probably have new bike owners. Facts. Again, Nigeria is a place to be loved, honored, and respected as a country with great culture, beautiful land, and a developing economy. I can envision how living conditions there could only improve with care and support from the world community...not disdain and ignorance from those who only grab a few negative snippets from a short video. Keep up your pilgrimages, Noraly. I will also be watching you now. One Love.❤

You said it all,as a Nigerian I can relate to that.
That's true. But the part with blatantly saying "give me money" was over the line for sure.

I haven't seen much comments defending the corruption of the policemen. Corruption is bad but giving Nigeria and Nigerians bad publicity through degrading comments is bad.
@@Oromiplus Denying the existence of corruption is itself corruption.
I'm not defending corruption I'm defending my country.🇳🇬🇳🇬
Armed men stopping you at impromptu checkpoints every 5 minutes, checking you out, looking at your equipment, you nervously laugh and carry on if they let you. Living life one checkpoint at a time, looks like fun!
I have just realized your videos have become my new stress relief. Thank you, I love all the adventures!
Still has me on the edge of my seat biting my nails!
more like 60%
In the normal countries the officers policies take care about other things. 1. This barrier is to stop people and ask for something. 2. This is very disrespect to any travelers. The Africa problem is not poorest place but poorest mentality. If changes this poorest mentality, the countries can change from they poorest in prosperity.
Where did you get this number from?
One Love.❤
What part of Nigeria did you visit?
@@ossaiobinnacharles9281 I spent most of my time in Imo state.

@@sidex4 Why is the comment considered negative? It is a realistic view of travelling in such remote parts of the country like Nigeria. If "itchy boots" were to travel in a group or even with a companion, it would add some safety assurance. One thing to be naive another to be some what reckless with safety concern. Those remote roads that she speeds along on her bike, have numerous checkpoints, manned by "sketchy" army or policeman, or sometimes militia, and you meet some crazy fella who demand the bike, money or even something more ridiculous, who would she ask for help from? @anthonyboey3210 for the first time he was concerned about her safety, this is someone who had gone through so many dangerous places than this, at least there are police men on this roads she went through that can be called upon should something happened, but he felt concerned for her safety in his own country, what kinds of narrative is that giving out? In as much as there are some concerns occasionally, I believe no incidents had been recorded on this roads in a very long time, why do we continue to put the image of our dear country into the mud? We keep complaining that we are not respected or tourists don't want to come to Nigeria in their substantial number (which could stabilize the Naira with the influx of forex) and we kept vibing into this narrative of security concerns.
I think I see things differently though for me most people in Nigeria are friendly from this video 😂😂 everyone is saying welcome safe journey thats nice

I have a hard time believing any thing happened to those extorting officers.
My gut says it's just a ploy for the arresting officer to collect bribes from the extorting officers.

They are criminals who shouldn't be allowed to remain in this job.
Have you ever travelled in Africa and/or Latin America? This is just the way it is and these guys were not making any effort. They just let her drive on. I have met lots of more "convincing" people asking for "donations".
If one travels in these countries it's best to consider it part of travel costs. If one fights it it, travel costs rise astronomically as well as the risk of incarceration and bodily harm. Having a right and getting a right are two very different things...
Try getting pulled over by the policia in Mexico. Pay them or go to jail...
