If I had to guess based off of a previous video I'd say the maddest he's ever been is when he responded to a call of a crying baby locked in a hot car he smashed the window in the front seat to unlock the door and open up the back door to get the baby out and then the mother comes out and she's all mad because her car window is broken. He said if you heard him yelling at her you would have thought he was completely insane.

My dad was dispatched to a suicide that washed up to a local park. At that time, some police cars were station wagons equipped with stretchers, and officers, as a matter of course, would have to pick up people to go to the hospital, or to the morgue. Since he had seniority over the accompanying officer, my father picked up the legs, and the other officer had to pick the guy up by the shoulders. The officer was facing the decedent, and was lifting the guy by lifting from behind the guy's shoulders....he should have thought his technique out a little better, because as he lifted, the dead guy's bloated arms moved right around the officer and hugged him. My dad claimed that after the officer screamed, he simultaneously turned green. Once my father regained his composure after falling down laughing, they took the guy away...after a better plan for moving the man was formulated...

By far my favorite thing about 401’s videos is even when he accidentally tells a story twice it is literally almost the SAME word for word story. There is no making parts up, no exageration and no stretching of the truth. A story he told a year ago has the same consistency when he tells it now. Just goes to show how much integrity he has.

Back in my younger days, I worked maintenance in a hospital. Pulled a work order to change some light bulbs in the autopsy staging room. The room where the bodies are laying on the gurney covered with a sheet. Complete with toe tags. It was me and a older black guy that I had worked with, on the graveyard shift, for almost a year. So, we're in the room, lights out, with a ladder and a flashlight, ladder and eight bulbs. The other guy climbs the ladder. Pulls the old bulbs out of the light. Hands them to me and out of the corner of his eye see's one of the bodies sit straight up on a table from the stomach muscles contracting. The sheet falls off the dudes face and the old guy jumps off the ladder and is sprinting, actually sprinting, back to the shop. After I finished laughing and changing the lights I went to the shop. There he was, cussing me to no end. Saying I did that just to scare him. I laughed for days about that and when he would get pissy I'd just say we have to go change some bulbs in the holding room again. I've never seen a black guy turn white like I did that nite!!!!!!!

That sounds like a pretty gnarly scene. As soon as you said the mail was piled up I was already expecting what you described. One of my instructors from college had a similar story about a suicide call he got. Guy hung himself in a barn, middle of summer, hung there for about 3 weeks before someone found him. Officers arrive, instructor and another guy are up on a ladder trying to get body down, ladder somehow began to fall and instructor, who was at the top of the ladder, grabbed the closest thing to him to not fall to the ground. He grabbed the body, which was so decayed that it split, and he tumbled to the ground with the body, and it landed on top of him and sprayed him with a lot of fluids. He said he burnt that uniform after that

Got something close, I was still a paramedic trainee and the third one on the unit along side two senior medics...so as much a rookie as you can be. Anyway we got a call out to a 'fallen person' at the train station. Along side the fire department local PD, rail PD an air ambulance and the EMS chief...it took me way to long to put one and one together. It really happend what you think happend. A 16y/o got hit by a train at full speed. How ever the one think that I remember most was the commend by the our chief how had to file the paperwork and announce that guy DOA. Quote: "You sure he's dead? Did you find his head?" We: "Well, part of his lower jaw and an bundle of hair is stuck at the first car. If you can identify more of him then us, let us know."

That is defiantly a smell that doesn't go away. My wife and I use to live in an apt. It was 2 summers ago in July. I started to notice a smell in the apt and thought it was sewer or something backed up. I called the office and they told me to put bleach down the drains and that should take care of it. So I did but 2 days passed and the smell was getting worse. It was a smell I had never smelled before. Called the office again and they said they had no other complaints and to try the bleach again since it was getting hot out they said it was sewer smell and would go away. About a week and a half after I started to smell this it was to the point that every time the air conditioning came on it would get worse. I would wake up in the middle of the night choking and gagging it was so bad. I can only describe it as ammonia and cat piss smell with a hint of sweet to it (if that's even possible) anyway I called again and they said they would look into it. By this time we started noticing HUGE flys in the apt that appeared to be so full they couldn't fly. They just sat on the walls. I take my wife to work and the whole way I could STILL smell this smell. It was on my hands and arms and clothes. I knew something was not right. Well I get home and I'm smoking out front and I get this HUGE whiff of just plain nasty then seen huge flys swarm around the building. About 20 min later I seen the medical examiner drive past and only at that moment my heart fell into my stomach because it was real and I knew what it was. Anyway I guess the guy was dead for about 2 weeks. His heater was set to 88 degrees and that smell I will never forget. Did the apt move us to a different unit? Nope. We had to break our lease to get I to a new unit. It was the worse thing ever

One of the worst things I saw was on Cops in the 80's. The show had not been around long. I think this was the 2nd or 3rd season. The officer they were riding with was pretty high up. He'd been a cop for 20 years and you could tell the job was getting to him.
They responded to a shots fired call at the apartment of a woman who had a restraining order against her husband.
It was really bad. This guy showed up, shot his wife and all four of his kids, all of the children were under ten and the youngest was just a baby. It looked like the oldest had tried to protect the third youngest and the second oldest was in the babies room close to the baby.
After shooting his family he shot himself.
This cop got everyone doing what they needed to do to get the investigation, then he handed the camera crew off to another cop and left.
We find out later that the guy had gone into his boss's office and quit his job.
It really showed me what sort of emotional toll that sort of job can have on a person. Frankly, maybe police work should be one of those jobs you're not allowed to do long term. Like working with radiation. If you get too much, it's simply no longer safe to be exposed to that any more.

So, I'm Security Forces in the Air Force and fairly new. One of my supervisors shared this story when he was working LE. When we're reversing a government operated a vehicle, we are required to have a spotter (someone directing you). This individual was standing directly behind the vehicle reversing and got pinned against something. He was completely smashed. Back at the hospital, my sup was there to gather the required information on the individual, as they were obviously dead. One hospital employee decided he wanted to use a defibrillator on the individual even though they were obviously already mangled up. They proceeded to utilize the defibrillator and you see their body almost explode and all their guts and insides fall out all over the place with a horrendous smell that emitted. Man, I can imagine the odor...I've seen (and smelled) some terrible scenes overseas while in the military...while on my first leave, I was home for a couple days and got the call from my grandmother's neighbors in Orlando (my mom and I were about 45 min out) about her basically being mia etc...we arrived and broke the door down, and even though she had been deceased for only about 24 hours the odor was still very pungent...can't even fathom multiple weeks...

The worst part was, calculating from the last Amazon delivery she got, she'd been there for four months. Four months, and no one missed her. :-(

As a brand new subscriber to your channel, I am interested in any and all interesting/disgusting/freaky call-outs or stories you have about your work. I do find it all fascinating. The most heartwarming story you have or whatever has touched you the most, I think that all stories from a police officer's perspective is interesting. And I totally understand about the "different" sense of humour, I am a registered nurse and it's similar for us. When you deal with sad or devastating circumstances every day or most days, you develop a bit of a different sense of what's funny. And you need to, otherwise every nurse, Dr, police officer etc would be severely depressed/angry/resentful etc. Thank you for sharing your story. I did giggle at the inappropriate time. 😳😊

I got a call like this after 4 weeks of becoming a sheriff's deputy. Mine was a 3 day body. I kept smelling it a couple days after. I can't imagine a 2 week body. Shortly after that call started, I got another call about a pedestrian hit on the highway which I was re-tasked to. I was re-tasked because my department has 4 deputies and a sheriff, so there were only 2 of us on duty at that time. I got on scene of the new incident and immediately called in stating that the pedestrian was deceased and that I needed a supervisor. Long story short, those two calls took up my entire 12 hour shift and the Sheriff and my day shift counterpart were both on night shift with me for the majority of that night. I had not been to academy at this point. I was, and still am, only deputized so I was way over my head for those calls because field training didn't cover that shit lol. (Nebraska has a reg that allows deputies to work for up to a year before going to academy.)

You told the last part before but glad to hear the details and context. You should do a topic on ride alongs. What types of officers can allow ride alongs (patrol, tactical units like swat, detectives, k9s.) and what kinds of things you should observe. And maybe some good questions to ask that might vary from department to department. Things you’d want to know like “is there a no chase law in this city?” Also a topic about the different branches and what kind of qualifications you need, what you might have to do o prep for these branches (physical, educational, mental, home life exc.) and a general idea as to what to expect not only as far as your duties but also what to expect to change from the above categories. I think it would be a great opportunity to “interview” any officers you might know that have better answered for these things.
