NKP 765 Indiana Fall Color Steam Train 10/7-8/23

Continuing with the steam theme, we go back to earlier in October 2023 during the Indiana Rail Experience, Indiana Fall Color Train on the Indiana and Northeastern Railroad. This train being hauled by famous Nickel Plate Road S-2 class steam locomotive #765. One of my personal favorite excursion stars. This would be my second time out on the Indiana Northeastern chasing the 765 the first time was during their Tri-State Excursions back in 2022. The main draw to bring me back out here was the current appearance at 765 was currently in with the no white walls on the wheels a darker mat color for the smoke box to give it a more “in service” look. Another reason to come back out back to Indiana in fall colors. This excursion was a two day weekend starting from Pleasant Lake, Indiana to Hillsdale, Michigan and back learning from my mistakes the first time I was out here I was able to catch 765 more times on this outing than I was at the previous one.
Accompanying on this trip were some good friends of mine, ‪@GTRailFanProductions‬, ‪@DroppedSignal‬, and ‪@chendersonrailproductions704‬
The first two scenes were of the deadhead move on Saturday morning when 765 went from Steubenville IN, to where we began our chase in Pleasant Lake IN. Once there she dropped off the IN GP9 1602 into the siding. After the passengers would be able to board the train for there ride onto Hillsdale where we chased her there and back.

If 611 is the Queen of Steam, then 765 has to be the King of Steam, at least East of the Mississippi! Great video.

Very nice indeed. Hard to imagine these running at 50-60-70 mph back in the day. My fav piece- @47:00 the railfan pass/start under load and final beautiful landscape and pass @51:00. Great picture composition. Thanks for the vid.
