Thank you so much for covering this replays Apollo. Those battles were really intense and you made great commentary :D For the ones interested in some backround information: To the first battle: Terry and me are very good friends and we often try cool tactics together. When we started this battle we knew we fight against NEW players (I didn't called them noobs XD ) and we were actually suprised how well they did. We kinda thought this is going rather to be an easy victory as we won some 2v3s before. And to be fair we had a damn high chance to lose that battle if it wasn't for 1 unit and a spot we more or less defended randomly. On the left flank there was a pretty small hill, not really so high to make big notice of it. But in combination with the Yariwall on the downside and guns on the top of this little hill it made an insanely deadly combo. I had myself Heavy gunners on that hill that did really well, but have you seen the Shogunate Guard Infantery (the Prussian-trained Gaurd Infantery) ??? This was an elite unit by Terry with the skill 'kneel fire' and it got alone 1100+ kills! This unit was the main reason that we stopped the charge on our left flank. Without that we most likely hadn't been able to win this. To the second battle: Great Dragon was at that time a fairly new player. He played some battles, had some experience and showed skill in this game, thats why I started to train him. I helped him leveling up units and showed him good tactics and unit choices. When we played this 2v3 he was not on the same level like Terry. Of course afterwards everyone can say what someone could have done better, but he played quite alright and did some good job with some units after his main army has fallen. On the other side, this is what made this battle so close. I could charge 2 times against modern gun armies and still had almost enough left to defend myself against a rush :) I don't care so much if I lost this, its not a shame at all to lose that way. Rather have an epic heroic defeat than a boring decisive victory.
@@girlartist1105 I can teach you after I finished my exams, so end of February. If your PC works then I can show you some things. I actually helped alot players so far.
Still the best total war to this day... so well made and the only game in the series where I find battles somewhat impressive and meaningful. I hope they will make a 3rd one some day building on this game
I've never played one of these large battle simulator games online, but after seeing some of the tactics in these replays, I might just give it a go! One of the things that bugs me the most, is players very rarely using their Calvary without infantry support, especially in NTW3! One of the reasons I enjoy watching Apollo's battles so much, is because he uses common sense tactics, never wastes units, and always gets the most out of his troops!
I never understood why the spear samurais don't have the spear wall formation as the ashigarus. And in the solo campaign research tree, there is a "square piques formation" this formation doesn't exist in the vanilla game.
i think the noobs in the second battle should have formed up around Trevor and swarmed all at once but they still won either way. But i actually thought Trevor was going to attempt a loop around and attack the noob remnants on the hill and hold there.
My army was just pure melee force without any ranged units. The enemies had 2 FOS armies, so I had to rush. The problem was, I couldnt support my ally this way. But tbh I actually thought he will be able to hold, as he had the hill advantage. And a better player had been probably able to stop that rush, but as I stated in another comment, Great Dragon was at that point fairly new. And our opponents were not all new (I never wrote that about this battle, it was just the case in the first one). But I couldnt support him, as I had to use my chance to push against the FOS player. As you can see in 20:10 he messed up his army completely and it was a perfect time to charge. I didn't epected Dragons army to fall that quick and then there was nothing left I could do. I actually tried to assist his few units on the left, but it was actually not that smart afterwards as I couldn't rescue his guns (which I wanted to save against gun cav) while I lost the rest of my own cav there. For sure other decisions could have made my team win this battle, but thats how it went and for that it became an epic fight.
Hey Ik the game is dead, but I’m re playing thrones if Britannia and I feel like they did Circen wrong by not giving them a 2 handed sword unit. Mide has a 2 handed axe unit and it would make so much sense especially since it’s wat Scotland was known for.
If he had I guess most of his units in yari wall when he was charging in, but I think it may have been on cool down He could have won Since yari wall gives aton of moral to the unit, ton of defence, and overall just making them a brick wall that will still stand after like 2 units. But idk But aye really amazing video! Hope to see more shogun 2
Can you please do more like this is was more entertaining than most of the other videos because they are just a bit boring sometimes and it just seem that this one was very entertaining , ps not offense
I like how the title says 3 to 1 but it's actually 3 to 2
Just enjoy the content not a big deal
3 armies to 2 but probably the men count was 3:1
@@dukedunac Maybe
Its a tactic so that people will watch because there enterested

Arguably the best game total war has ever produced; close race with this against Medieval II and WHII
If you liked that replays I can take a look for some more in my files. Got around 850 replays in Shogun 2 XD

yari wall is the most broken ability in shogun 2 always has been
Just use archers...they will shred a wall formation
To be fair that was one reason why Oda Nobunaga did so well. Combined with musketeers of course.

Hi Apollo i got a question, have you ever try Morning Sun mod for shogun 2 like the thumbnail you using?

I always keep 2 archer units for sniping or fire breaking scary units or engaged cavalry.

What’s the difference between red bear infantry and black bear infantry
Red bears (750 gold) got slightly better melee stats but worse reload and accuracy than black bears (850). The difference isn't high tho
