Very nice video! I have slender wrists and the size of a watch is kind of important to me (diameter and hight, 38 mm is just the step to the bigger size for me) and these smaller watches are really rare.
I saw a few videos about this model and the profile view is almost accidentally appearing (and fast disappearing) on most watch videos. So: well done with the all around view!

Please ignore my earlier critical comment about the thickness of the PRS-25. I said that Timefactors claimed a thickness of 14mm. I mistakenly looked at the specs for the PRS-36. Timefactors reports the PRS-25 to be 11mm as stated in the video. Sorry.

Great point..and for those watches less than 38mm- like the Tudor Black Bay 36 are at more than 4-5 times the price of this watch. So our choices are limited to Hamilton, Seiko, or vintage and this little guy. Thanks so much for watching!

Great review. You did a really good job for the first one. It didn't hurt that the star of the show was the PRS-25. I had this exact model but needed the cash so I had to move it on but it a real favorite still in my book. I have purchased 3 Smiths watches in total from Eddie over at TimeFactors and he sells great stuff. He is coming out with a new watch later this year that is an homage to the IWC MK11 and I believe is going to be a real winner. Thanks again and keep them coming.

Great review of a great watch. People call it a homage to the Rolex Explorer ref 1016 but I just call it a well made watch and a joy to wear. I did notice that you mentioned it was also available in a 40mm with a white dial but the 40mm actually has a black dial and the white dialed variant has the same case as the 36mm only with the white dial.

    • @perpetuality

Thank you for catching that error and for watching. It’s surprising how different the white dial looks to the OG, a polar explorer for those who always asked for one from the five pointed crown. Spectacular watch and glad you take joy in wearing it 🙌

I’ve been looking at this watch for awhile now. Looking At the 40 mm for my 7 1/2 inch wrist. I really like everything about the watch other than the Mercedes hour hand. I don’t know if that’s true to the original or not… I’m just not a fan unless it’s on a Rolex or an homage of a Rolex. Cheers! John

    • @perpetuality
      @perpetuality  4 роки тому

Super happy to hear you like the video. Now for the Mercedes hands.. it’s a signature of the Rolex Explorer 1016 that this watch is a homage of. The original Smiths expedition watch looked much more like a field watch with its sword hands. So I think this would fit what you are looking for!

Nice thorough review, I would've never said this was your first! I find the Smiths very interesting, they have solid history and pedigree which is why I wish they ditched the mercedes hands and move away from the 1:1 homage. Size, looks and quality seem perfect, they should expand on the Expedition model, which takes inspiration from a vintage Smiths watch actually worn by Sir Edmund Hillary.

Promblem is "they" is just one guy named Eddie. He designs the watches, contracts out to china for manufacturing, gets a shipment of them, and then spends 4 months selling his watches one at a time to people around the world. No other modern company is open for orders for 20 minutes a month. I dont get why this guy doesnt just hire 1 part time worker to help him out. He could probably move double. He's also against getting exposure. He emails people asking them NOT to review their watches as he cant keep up with the demand. Bizzare.

The specifications at Timefactors.com say this watch is 14mm thick. That is really chunky for a 36mm watch. Otherwise, the watch ticks all my requirements for a field watch (and few do): under 40mm, automatic movement (so I don't have to screw out the crown every day to wind it [and erode the seals]), no date (so I don't have to set the date everytime I give it a vacation), sapphire crystal with AR coating, 10 atm water resistance, under $600. I would prefer a matte finish.

The Hamilton Pilot Pioneer doesn't have the 24 hour track and has a gorgeous 36mm cushion case, lots of heritage also, no sapphire unfortunately but much better built than the KFM. I know alot of smiths collectors that really don't like what T.F. have done with making a Rolex Homage and in that sense the T. F. Everest Expedition is more respectable to the brand, I do personally love the look of this watch though personally and may add it to collection

You're exactly right, I had no idea that much of it is planning..the rest of it is editing with whatever left over to be filming. That is also assuming everything goes smoothly too! But it is very very rewarding, thanks for following along and for watching :)

You missed out one other con for afficianados of mechanical movements- no exhibition case back!

You're right about this, although i thinkt he Miyota 9039 or 9015 are not particularly good looking movements.. they are often left unfinished on the bridge and rotor :(

Nice video, I think the watch would look and fit you better with a brown leather strap 👍🏻

Great call!! I actually previously had it on a brown Fluco Suede strap and it is indeed a great fit
Planning on doing a video to compare the Smiths on different straps, would that be something everyone might enjoy?

This watch would be perfect with a Powermatic 80. It isn't far fetched either.

If you buy this watch, then if you are unimpressed with its shoddy quality as I was and decide to sell it, eddie platts will ban you from buying more watches, then discuss on his forum plans to sabotage your ebay listing with fake bids. Happened to me. Avoid

Cut out the middle man and buy a citizen, because that's all you are getting. What you aren't getting is a Rolex Explorer, it's a fur coat with no knickers!
