Leo here: I asked Gigabyte to return the Aero 15X v8 to me and took a second look at the thermals and air flow. Head here to read all about it ua-cam.com/video/rpbl5xcE7Gk/v-deo.html
I wanted to like your review, but I'm sorry your review is misleading on the heat front. I've been eagerly waiting for such a machine and your review initially had me disappointed with this model, I have now done a little more research and am back in line to order one, albeit from the US as the UK price is excessive. The vents on the bottom of the laptop are INTAKES, the hot air is exhausted via exhaust vents under the panel hinge to the rear of the machine up in front of the panel. You can see on another US retailers UA-cam review of this model the internals of the machine and the laptops cooling design clearly, complete with an infrared temp analysis of the machine under load. The keyboard surface temps are some of the best i've seen for a machine with this level of performance in such a small frame, laptops will always be toasty when plonked on your legs! You make no mention that the SD card reader is an upgraded UHS-II one, significantly increasing transfer speeds, which is of interest to Photographers/Video editors. I cannot agree with you on the fan profiles. It seems to me they are already set by Gigabyte so you have want you want already, there is no need for you to tweak them further.... How can it be a bad thing for Gigabyte to include utilities to allow such tweaks to those users that may which to alter them? Some people may not wish to have 15 points of fan noise 'ramping' and may prefer a more digital 'on' or 'off' noise profile for example. In addition, you spend a good percentage of the video downmarking the laptop for this one feature, which personally I see as a positive not a negative. A repaste of cpu and gpu may help with noise and temps. The same applies to the RGB keyboard lighting. I do agree, most of the settings are most likely redundant to the majority of users, however the ability to select what works for the individual is again not a bad thing and not something that you should dwell on as a negative. It runs a single 2666 speed sodimm restricting it to single channel operation which seems like a strange move, perhaps done to remain price competitive to the MSIs GS65 which comes with Dual channel 32gb (2x16gb) but with slower 2400 RAM. The RAM can be upgraded by the user with relative ease to dual channel 32gb 2666 ram, by just adding a further stick, albeit at further expense! I would most likely look to do this on my machine. In terms of replacement of such parts, everything you'd ever need/want to touch/upgrade is easily accessible on removal of the baseplate, which isn't always the case with the thin and light notebooks. I will set and forget the fan profile and keyboard profile. I will also tweak the power plan profiles to allow me to get more performance when using the machine for gaming away from an outlet. These three things will most likely take less than 30mins and I see myself using this laptop for 4-5yrs, if it can physically hold up to it. It is a shame the webcam is still at the bottom unlike MSIs GS65 which shows it can be done properly with these new near bezel-less designs. I'll subscribe as I do like your reviews, but please ensure they are accurate before going live!
Leo here: It would help if you could a provide a link or name to the review you mention with the thermals, as I would like to take a look. I have added an image of my own to the written review here that you might find interesting www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/leo-waldock/gigabyte-aero-15x-v8-6-core-144hz-gtx-1070-max-q-graphics/3/ There are small vents at the back of the chassis at the hinges in front of the bottom of the screen but most of the ventilation is on the underside. Other points about fan curves, SD card reader and RGB are all within the realms of personal opinion, in the sense that some people care about the spec of the SD card reader or webcam far more than others. Your points about SODIMMs are interesting, in as far as I do not recall even discussing the subject, beyond saying the memory is fast DDR4 and works well.
Hi Leo, thanks for the reply. link is here: ua-cam.com/video/idBXYns3ZZI/v-deo.html Thermals are discussed from 8mins08. Admittedly, that review doesn't show heat on the underside, but it clearly shows the hotspots and just as importantly the keyboard temps. Your images on the written review also show the base removed and the configuration of the fans and exhaust. I think we can agree that laptops radiate heat in every direction and as a result you will get heat radiated to below, but this is passive and a feature of any laptop. Lets face it, the chassis is aluminium and will effectively be a passive heatsink itself. The active part of the cooling design directs the heat upwards, at least that's where fan exhausts are directed. The fans are centrifugal which means the intake is in the centre of the fan and the outlet is on the outside of the fan body. Apologies with the ref to ram, I clearly mixed up my sources when doing the additional digging into this machine! I'll edit my comment accordingly. Please take no offense with my comments, as none was intended. I have no real need for the high speed card reader personally either but if you think of the likely users of this machine (gamers, media creativity types, CAD/CAM) I think there is merit in mentioning it.
I should also add that I'm eager to see a detailed review of the MSI GS65 which I was unaware of until your review. It does appear to be a worthy contender though I'd have to have some faith restored in their ability to provide good after sales customer service.
Interesting video, although the auto focus got a little wearing. The key point would have been a thermal image of the underside, as I hope the photo I added to the review shows. We always welcome comment here at KitGuru.
I've realised the issue. The heat seen in your underside thermal picture, is in the region of the cpu and Gpu heatsink and heatpipes. The fans are outboard either side on that same image and they clearly show lower temps. The heat you are seeing is purely passive radiated heat, yet does look like it could potentially be uncomfortably hot. Any idea of actual temps in that area? For anyone else trying to keep up, here's the image we are referring to : www.kitguru.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Thermal.jpg
@JimboJet737 his comment is 100% correct as I agree this review is all over the place lol. I would have never made a purchase decision based off this review.. As I look back at the other reviewers they did an outstanding job and did their necessary research. I'm not saying it was terrible but your review was a contradiction to say the least. Especially when you mention the cooling aspects of the laptop. I know a few people who have this laptop in the 4K version and the FHD 144htz and they swear the cooling is magnificent it's a proper design and very efficient seeing temps anywhere from 76° to 82 on GPU and around roughly 78 to 84° on the CPU nothing above that like a 90° degree new Razerblade lol anyways had to put my two sense in especially since I now Have the 4K version on order with upgraded 32GB of Ram and Samsung Pro 970 PCI NVME SSD amongst other goodies from Xotic PC. Usually your reviews are good but for this laptop No I'm sorry I still up to date with you tho GURU Much Love and Blessings
Not sure I agree with your points on the fan and keyboard controls. They're just options, set and forget. I'd be annoyed if I had an RGB keyboard I couldn't control.
Leo here: of course you are correct that if you have RGB lighting you also need control. The thing is there are at least a dozen different modes and I could literally use either Static or Off. I understand companies such as Gigabyte want a Rainbow routine they can use at shows but the rest is borderline silly. Having said that I recently bought a new Wi-Fi front doorbell with 50 different ring profiles and I found three I could tolerate.
Subscribed! This is by FAR the most useful review on the new Aero 15X I have come across. I also enjoyed your presentation style, kind of like talking 'with' me rather than speaking 'at' me like so many other channels. Will you be getting hold of the new 2018 Dell XPS 15 for a review?
It's the first video from your channel i watch ,i immediately subscribing you're very subjective and you share alot of good point with me like the fans adjesting and led lights and your understanding of how the machine works with the air flow is on point it's what i really think all the time, very nice .
I agree. I for one would be HAPPY to be able to turn down the fans during normal use and crank them up to max when I game with earphones. Most laptop manufacturers don't provide this opportunity and it's really upsetting. This one does and the guy complains about it.
I second this. In-depth reviews from thoughtful, knowledgeable, reviewers are rare indeed. I'm subbing and I'm going to encourage others to do so as well.
I agree. I love Leo's reviews, every question I have about a certain product is always answered. superb reviews and I love Leo's presenting style. keep up the great work
i disagree... a little inconsistent from what i see in terms on the terminology used during the reviews or similar category product and also some information were not accurate either. to watch more other reviews of the same product and you will know what i mean
I noticed that basically all the new 6 core lap tops run very hot. But the performance on this one is very good, better than most. Are you able to recommend a 6 core laptop that is thin, quiet, and properly cooled? It seems to me they don't exist.
Great video but remember this laptop is tailored towards some niche group who want to be productive as well as have tons of fun! I love the build and little updates....
Archie Wei thanks for letting me know. Laptop speakers will never be amazing for music or movies but just wanted to know if it's fine for the odd UA-cam video. Looks good I'll probably go for one
It is silly to complain about having the option to set the fan curve to your liking... Options are great! And from Linus's review, setting the fans to full speed during gaming yields way more FPS than leaving the fan curve to default.
Hello! What about battery life? How much time could we expect to use this in every day tasks like browsing the web, writing emails and video play? Thank you! Loved your review!
heyy.....can u please do a video comparing MSI GS 65 8RF , Asus Zephyrus GM501 , Gigabyte Aero 15x and the new Razer 15. All of them are quite similar...but there's got to be a winner. :)
Wrong reviewed, you must correct the fact that the air intake is over and bottom and the exhaust is backward because otherwise you are missing the truth. Other thiing is... When you are using the laptop conected to an external monitor or just doing some work with the lid closed... What happen with the exhaust vents? do the vents get blocked with the hinges? I use to do that thing with my current laptop and is one of the things id like to know. The fact that it comes with the software necesary to manage some hardware aspects of the laptop like the ventilation profile, colour profile, keyboard profile, and so on... i can't understand that you can see it like someting negative or anoying, the opposite would be the criticable thing. don't you like to customize it at your own liking? Then just dont touch it! From my poiint of view there sould be more tweaking options for this kind of laptops. Despite these details, I will continue watching your reviews =P
LethalWarrior I've not seen the machine in person yet but I do believe the air is exhausted under the hinge to the rear in that case - at least I certainly hope it would!
8.5 out of 10 is negative? www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/leo-waldock/gigabyte-aero-15x-v8-6-core-144hz-gtx-1070-max-q-graphics/ Its a common misconception for new people to this channel - KitGuru are hard on products - Leo in particular, which is good as I like to find out all the problems beforehand, even if they aren't deal breakers for me. Too many soft, idiot reviewers on youtube who just love everything as they get given it as a freebie. Leo covers all the bases and is honest - I love it here. I always read the 1 star reviews on products im considering on Amazon - best way to find out the faults. 5 star reviews are a waste of time, there are always problems. For Leo this product is positive, you just need to readjust your way of thinking after watching some other youtube tech channels.
Doesn't make sense to suck air in from the underside either. My clothes are over my legs effectively blocking the intake. Sides and rear for vents on a superportable nothing else makes any sense
Well, if you want to have intakes on the sides, you have to specially design the cooling - intake system for it, while with intak like this, you just place the fan and "holes" to the chasis, and you are done..
Hi can you please help me to to figure out which laptop is best for me, cause I'm learning VFX editing and 3d models so will I go for i7 8750h or k or u, very confusing, and nobody on UA-cam answered me for this, can you please tell me the difference and which i7 should I go for.
I have the Aorus x7 v7 but I'd really rather have more cores for 3D rendering (I don't have space for a PC). Is it worth getting this or msi's instead?
cannot fully understand design decisions: 1. large hinge (instead of two on top or sides) blocking potential rear exhaust, limiting screen angle, cannot run closed lid!. 2. camera on bottom. why not shifting screen a bit lower, aesthetic balance with such a thick bottom is way off anyway. Fan noise is normal when rendering in a 2kg laptop. Nice alternative review.
Please help!! I am looking for the following in a laptop. I can’t seem to find it: 8700k, 1080ti, 240hz I’ll settle for 144hz monitor and the lates and best cpu and gpu that come with that but I can’t even find a 144hz laptop with an 8700k and at least a 1080gpu. For a review, would be nice to also give a few actually gaming tests on the video? Now have to watch this and then still go and look for the Gaming results of an actually Gaming Laptop review.
This video is just part of the review, there is a review on the main site which compliments this video and it has game tests and more - www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/leo-waldock/gigabyte-aero-15x-v8-6-core-144hz-gtx-1070-max-q-graphics/. There are links in the review description too. We are not just a youtube channel. the videos are always part of our reviews.
You got the thing with the cooling wrong. Intake is in the bottom, exhaust is in the hinge. How will one use the 144Hz panel without G-Synch? I'd say the GTX1060 is the better choice for quieter and cooler operation, but how will one use the Panel without tearing?
TheBitFox so intake is at the bottom? Right on my legs which will block the vents? That's even worse. Vents on a superportable should be on the sides and rear. No use on a bed or on a lap with clothes. I can forgive that on a desktop replacement laptop not on a superportable.
I'd say G-Sync is way more valuable on 60Hz panels rather than 144Hz panels, if the games running at that higher frame rate were tearing becomes less noticeable and Gigabyte clearly want to market this as a multipurpose laptop for pro's who need the power and maybe game as a hobby. So I think thats why they'd prefer to stick with graphics switching for better battery life rather than G-Sync. They also did have a 1060 version on the previous model but who knows whether they'll release one with the new CPU's.
MrMonkeyindrag Please help!! I am looking for the following in a laptop. Also none of the reviews are mentioning the response time of the display...is it bad? Is 144hz going to be a blurry mess? Also no Specs on on the SSD compared to name brands?
Well then its basically the perfect laptop!, I'd like a glossy screen and response time down to 5ms but otherwise I disagree with the reviewer, I think it does have the style where you just look at it and want it because its sexy.
yeah obvs but in normal household setting they also make the image pop alot more, still watch movies on 1366 gloss screen instead of 1080p laptop...and they look so much sexier
well this makes my decision between the Aero 15x and the MSI GS65... I use my laptop on my bed a lot and it would overheat very quickly with both the intake and exhaust being on the bottom. The MSI intakes through the sides and exhausts out the back, which would actually work in my conditions. Sorry Gigabyte.
Smidget once again, the video is incorrect. The intakes are at the bottom as per the majority of notebooks. The exhaust is on the upper surface to the rear of the keyboard just in front of the screen and vents upwards. There is a vent/grill on the underside in the region of the cpu and you that allows some hot air to escape passively but it is not an active exhaust as claimed, again this is the case with so many other machines so it isn't a new design.
Yahtadi Shidiq notable features of the gm501gs include full fat 1070 or 1060 cards, only 55whr battery :/, switchable g-sync, m2 and and 2.5" drive. No Ethernet port. 2.45kgs so a little heavier than the competition. As always it's a trade off again, all the goods small battery vs most of the goods and large battery on the gigabyte. The MSI 65 chassis flexes in places and has demonstrated throttling under intensive cpu real world usage according to Linustechtips initial review.
JimboJet737 "2.5" drive".. Ew. Thats why it comes with very small battery, why not in m.2 form factor for both pcie and sata asus??? Last gen zephyrus wont get you to disable dgpu and switch it to igpu. Thats why it only last for almost 2 hours How about this new gen? I hope they allow switchable gpu mode tho
Yahtadi Shidiq actually, don’t quote me on the 2.5” drive, I only assumed that’s what it was as it comes with one 512gb m2 ssd and 1tb of hdd storage. I believe the gm501m has an officially provided/supported capability to enable g-sync or disable it to get onboard graphics for greater battery life but it does require software tweaking and a reboot to do so. Even so, it’s still just over half the capacity of the battery in the gigabyte.
Is that true if the panel has 144z refresh? The 1070q will push 60+fps for most games at 1080p. I'd prefer to have 3-4 times (or more) longer battery life with optimus on a laptop than g-sync.
Naaa G-Sync is really a thing at low frame rate if the screen have a good refresh over the 60 freme/sec the g-sync is not so important and consider that with a G-sync certified laptop the cost will rise of 200 dollars more or less only for license and stuff and also will disable the Gpu switching between nvidia and the integrated one (that for guys like me that also work with the laptop is a selling point), the MSI have the hardware for the G-Sinc but is disabled (by purpose?) maybe to keep this thing in place (price and gpu switch)?
Dammit just purchased an aero 15 couple of months back... Anyways... So far great laptop... I have added an extra WD 1Tb m.2... Good laptop... But the copy/write speed on the USB c port are painfully slow!!too much junk installed on it as well... Did a windows reset as soon as I got it...
what about those issues that someone reported on the keyboard (key combination lock/sound etc) and what about the trackpad is it usable? does it have dead zone? while typing does it catch your palm (palm retantion)?
Gabriele De Carli I never had any keyboard issues... I think they corrected that with a firmware update... Although the light on the Tab key is very dim compared to other keys... I actually gave it to the service center thinking it's a manufacturing defect.. But apparently it's a design choice...I found it to be strange... they said they will take this as feedback for future products.... So don't know if they have made changes in new Aero 15 or not.... Trackpad is average at best... But for me it doesn't matter much coz I almost always use a mouse... Also, didn't have any issues with it while typing...
thx very helpfull! if it so I think I'm going for one of this, the keyboard problem for me was a deal breaker.. the track pad I dont care so mutch as far as it dont bother me while typing, I use it only for casual usage.
Hi There, you got the cooling system wrong, the intake is at the bottom, the exhaust is the back hinges check www.gigabyte.com/us/Laptop/AERO-15X--i7-8750H#kf
Leo here: The GIF on Gigabyte's web page does indeed show air in at the bottom and out at the back. While I was testing the laptop I held a piece of paper near the main bottom vent and watched it curve away from the chassis, rather than being drawn towards it. Either the animation is wrong or I got it wrong so the only smart move is to get the laptop back from Gigabyte and double check.
"A los esclavos nunca se les paga tanto como para que se liberen, sino apenas lo necesario para que sobrevivan y regresen a trabajar." Vlog genial.. Luizinho Hernandez
Gabriele De Carli the Asus gm501m has the option for gsync but requires a software setting change and a reboot each time you change it which is a little clumsy but doable. Personally, I'd rather have optimus for longer battery life anyway.
Pam Candas no please don't! I like how Leo records live and just talks. I'm sick watching people's heads bounce about every 5 seconds when they edit out a word or make mistakes!
I like your reviews, but for some odd reason you continue to say the Aero 15 exhausts air of the bottom of the chassis, which is completely untrue. Whatever heat is being removed from the laptop from the bottom is happening passively. The thermal management design of this laptop is not unlike almost every other laptop with a dedicated GPU - heat pipes draw heat away from the CPU and GPU to individual heat sinks - fans then force air out of the chassis, removing the heat radiating off the heat sinks (this is why heat sinks are almost always placed next to vents). If your were correct in your assessment of the top vents being intake, this would force the heat radiating off the heat sinks to travel back through the entire laptop and out the bottom. This makes zero sense from a design perspective. Other reviewers have shown their thermal imaging test and show exhaust happening on the top and back. Check them out. Aero 15X (8th Gen) ua-cam.com/video/idBXYns3ZZI/v-deo.htmlm57s Aero 15X (7th Gen) ua-cam.com/video/L0gap-e8vOE/v-deo.htmlm19s Aero 15 (7th Gen) ua-cam.com/video/s6YdIq8ljsk/v-deo.htmlm33s Please add a text pop up to the section of the video where you criticize the design of the laptop's thermal solution noting you incorrect assertion.
Take a look at the photos over on KitGuru.net (linked below the video). As per the discussion further down the page the vents are on the bottom. That chap with the dodgy auto focus and the thermal camera is demonstrating that the keyboard does not get excessively hot but does not show the underside of the laptop. He is quite correct about the keyboard but that is a wholly different matter.
Look at these pictures from notebookcheck.net. Bottom www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/Gigabyte/Aero_15/temp2_1.jpg Top www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/Gigabyte/Aero_15/temp1_1.jpg You can clearly see in the thermal image of the bottom that the fan vents are cool, meaning they are intake (just as the hinge vents on top/back are the hottest area of the laptop as shown in the top picture). The intake fans shown in your video have a shroud to create as much airflow as possible for the rear/top hinge exhaust. If the Aero 15 was exhausting out the bottom, the vents directly below the fans would be hot (they aren't). This same thing is shown at the 5:13 mark of your own video and the image you referenced. I assume Gigabyte added a vent in the middle of the bottom of the chassis to provide some passive cooling. Look at the thermal design of something like the Razer Blade and it is almost the exact same design, except Razer opted to not include the center vent on the bottom (design aesthetic probably outweighed the minimal cooling benefits of such a vent). Razer Blade Bottom (cover on) images.anandtech.com/doci/7119/Small%20(2%20of%209).jpg Razer Blade Bottom (cover off - thermal design) images.anandtech.com/doci/7119/interior.jpg
sarend01 so it's better to have cold air sucking in from the bottom when it's likely blocked by clothes? Super portable laptops need vents on side and rear not on the bottom.
I think you've replied to every comment that's been made about the video misstating the vent layout. It being better or worse isn't what's being said, mate. What's being said is that the video has its information wrong, full stop. Where you think the vents ought to be doesn't enter into it.
John R of course where I want the vents to be has everything to do with it. Whether the vents underneath are intake or expel is actually irrelevant. Neither works well the way it was designed these should always been on the sides and the rear. I've owned a laptop exactly the same and I never liked to use it on the go. On my lap. Exactly what these superportable are designed for. Heat builds up due to clothes blocking the vents. Three or four people seemingly don't care that gigabyte have dropped the ball in regards to design so for me as a potential customer it's completely relevant.
I have added an image of my own to the written review here that you might find interesting
www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/leo-waldock/gigabyte-aero-15x-v8-6-core-144hz-gtx-1070-max-q-graphics/3/
There are small vents at the back of the chassis at the hinges in front of the bottom of the screen but most of the ventilation is on the underside.

Thermals are discussed from 8mins08.
I feel like the best thing about this laptop is the battery life
@JimboJet737 his comment is 100% correct as I agree this review is all over the place lol.
Usually your reviews are good but for this laptop No I'm sorry
I still up to date with you tho GURU
Much Love and Blessings
Not sure I agree with your points on the fan and keyboard controls. They're just options, set and forget.
I'd be annoyed if I had an RGB keyboard I couldn't control.
Leo here: of course you are correct that if you have RGB lighting you also need control. The thing is there are at least a dozen different modes and I could literally use either Static or Off. I understand companies such as Gigabyte want a Rainbow routine they can use at shows but the rest is borderline silly. Having said that I recently bought a new Wi-Fi front doorbell with 50 different ring profiles and I found three I could tolerate.
Wait you cannot change it to like, only white? Or only blue, green? You know what I mean.
Edit: Okay should have watched till the end. haha
I really like this vlog is incredible, great work ....
such an exiting product! think im gonna get one
Its not a problem to have extra software for controlling fan curve. Approaching this way is too picky
I agree. I for one would be HAPPY to be able to turn down the fans during normal use and crank them up to max when I game with earphones. Most laptop manufacturers don't provide this opportunity and it's really upsetting. This one does and the guy complains about it.
I dont understand why you have only this many subs your job is top notch
thanks, nice of you to say - spread the word and help !
Real nice objective review. But you forgot the quality of the hinge and flex on body
Great video but remember this laptop is tailored towards some niche group who want to be productive as well as have tons of fun! I love the build and little updates....
I heard from another source that the Gigabyte Aero 15x v8 has a better battery life than most other laptops in its form factor
I have the 15x with 7700HQ with 1070MaxQ, bought about 2 month ago, got nothing against it, best non gaming look performance laptop.
Archie Wei How are the speakers on the laptop?
neelsn007 acceptable after uninstall digital surround software, I use headphones, speaker is never a selling point to me.
Archie Wei thanks for letting me know. Laptop speakers will never be amazing for music or movies but just wanted to know if it's fine for the odd UA-cam video. Looks good I'll probably go for one
Archie Wei great input... How's the brightness outdoors? Do you know the nits value or compare with xps 15 9560 or 9570?
It is silly to complain about having the option to set the fan curve to your liking... Options are great! And from Linus's review, setting the fans to full speed during gaming yields way more FPS than leaving the fan curve to default.
Hello! What about battery life? How much time could we expect to use this in every day tasks like browsing the web, writing emails and video play?
Thank you! Loved your review!
Buen vlog amigo. Saludos desde Venezuela.
heyy.....can u please do a video comparing MSI GS 65 8RF , Asus Zephyrus GM501 , Gigabyte Aero 15x and the new Razer 15. All of them are quite similar...but there's got to be a winner. :)
Please do a comparison between this and the MSI GS65, including internal temps. Thank you very much!
Buenossss graficosss.... gracias Crack, Saludos desde Venezuela
a good video review bro i like it
For a laptop which offers so much for it's size, it's a very negative review. Given its competition, I think it stands out very well.
8.5 out of 10 is negative? www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/leo-waldock/gigabyte-aero-15x-v8-6-core-144hz-gtx-1070-max-q-graphics/
Its a common misconception for new people to this channel - KitGuru are hard on products - Leo in particular, which is good as I like to find out all the problems beforehand, even if they aren't deal breakers for me.
Thank you for saying three-point-zero and not three-point-o. Drives me nuts to hear all the other youtubers and media persons say it incorrectly
Laughably, gigabyte is its own worst enemy, just go to its website and TRY to find products to order, follow the links.... to nowhere useful.
Joseph DeVincentis Yeah I've been trying to buy this thing in the US for the last month and I can't find it anywhere
Gigbyte promised they will give "beats headphone" with Aero 15x v8 and I made a pre-order and there is NO headphone with my order. What to do?
Couldn’t tell if it were the fans from the Aero, or from my own wretch of a MacBook’s fans, struggling to maintain temperature watching this video. 😅
wow taht's good notebook and perfect for editing
I thought Nvidia basically set the standard to be 40DB in sound with a max q gpu, but that's clearly 55-60. What am I missing here?
40Db for the GPU might be correct, but don't forget that the fans are cooling the CPU too
same here
Max-Q Standard is a setting that limits the FPS and works with Graphics settings via NV Experience to reach the 40Db target.
The fan intake is on the bottom, hot air is expelled upwards beneath the hinge. Doesn't make sense to expel the hot air downards next to the intake...
The video was very much like me. great review...
Hi can you please help me to to figure out which laptop is best for me, cause I'm learning VFX editing and 3d models so will I go for i7 8750h or k or u, very confusing, and nobody on UA-cam answered me for this, can you please tell me the difference and which i7 should I go for.
I was going to get the MSI but I noticed there was no 10 key, so I switched to the Gigabyte since I have to punch numbers a lot.
that song is awesomeness and I listen
estos videos autodidacticos resultan de mucha ayuda son excelentes
the screen is pretty cool. personally i think i would prefer kabylake g just cause you get a better battery size
You sure? this has 94.24Wh Battery Capacity. Or do you mean kabylake g uses less juice therefore lasts longer (in theory)
Does this have better cooling on gpu and cpu and better fan noise than the msi gs65 stealth?
I think everyone here is wondering this
I have the Aorus x7 v7 but I'd really rather have more cores for 3D rendering (I don't have space for a PC). Is it worth getting this or msi's instead?
Dammit, I just received the rare 15x now I gotta return it!
La tecnología es altamente buena.
Saludos #Venezuela.
what about battery life?
cannot fully understand design decisions: 1. large hinge (instead of two on top or sides) blocking potential rear exhaust, limiting screen angle, cannot run closed lid!. 2. camera on bottom. why not shifting screen a bit lower, aesthetic balance with such a thick bottom is way off anyway. Fan noise is normal when rendering in a 2kg laptop. Nice alternative review.
Me encantan estos video vlogs

I am looking for the following in a laptop. I can’t seem to find it: 8700k, 1080ti, 240hz
I’ll settle for 144hz monitor and the lates and best cpu and gpu that come with that but I can’t even find a 144hz laptop with an 8700k and at least a 1080gpu.
My current gaming pc desktop:

-G.skill z trident 16gb (2x8) 14-14-14-34 ram
-960 pro 512gb m.2
-Seagate firecuda 2 Tb sshd
-Evga 850w p2 psu
-Phanteks Enthoo Pro m se
Peripherals
-zowie Ben q xL2546 (240hz/1080p/DyAc) monitor
-hyper x alpha cloud headset
- zowie Ben q ec2-B mouse (I also have Logitech g502 and it works just fine but I prefer the ec2-B)
-ZOWIE BENQ CAMADE (BUNGEE)
- Redragon K552 KUMARA LED Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (only reason I have this is because I had it already from when I tried to keyboard mouse on Xbox one w/XIM4 device)
- zowie Ben q GS-R Large mouse pad.
Is this Better for Video Rendering than Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC with Ryzen 7 1700 ?
Good video n intersting video
And where would I best buy this? (I'm from Europe.)
The intake vents are not only bottom, the laptop intake the air at top thru the keyboard too.
They also did have a 1060 version on the previous model but who knows whether they'll release one with the new CPU's.

what has better battery and is the one u had to pick if u had to choose this or the msi gs65
This has a 94whr battery, not sure what the MSI has.
The msi is 82whr I believe. Best to wait for some battery reviews on the final release models

Would it make sense/help to get matching 4GB Ram and pair it with the 1x16GB to take advantage of dual channel bandwidth?
Also none of the reviews are mentioning the response time of the display...is it bad? Is 144hz going to be a blurry mess? Also no Specs on on the SSD compared to name brands?
I believe I saw 7ms which isn't horrendous on a laptop. SSD is a Toshiba, so it is a named brand. the Ram is GSKILL Ripsaw 2666.
Well then its basically the perfect laptop!, I'd like a glossy screen and response time down to 5ms but otherwise I disagree with the reviewer, I think it does have the style where you just look at it and want it because its sexy.
Nodakkian glossy screens can have terrible glare from reflections, and can obscure the image being displayed, I prefer a Matt screen.
yeah obvs but in normal household setting they also make the image pop alot more, still watch movies on 1366 gloss screen instead of 1080p laptop...and they look so much sexier
Can’t not see the refreshing of keyboard leds
well this makes my decision between the Aero 15x and the MSI GS65...
JimboJet737 oh. Then I don’t know what to get now.
Me encantaría tener una PC como esta...
where to buy it

Asus Zephyrus GM501, MSI GS65 and Gigabyte Aero 15 V8
I couldnt pick
The new Zephryus looks very tempting.I'm looking fwd to some in depth reviews on that one.
Yea couldnt agree more. Ive found many in depth reviews videos on both msi and gigabyte but nothing on new zephyrus
Thats why it only last for almost 2 hours
How about this new gen? I hope they allow switchable gpu mode tho
Yahtadi Shidiq actually, don’t quote me on the 2.5” drive, I only assumed that’s what it was as it comes with one 512gb m2 ssd and 1tb of hdd storage. I believe the gm501m has an officially provided/supported capability to enable g-sync or disable it to get onboard graphics for greater battery life but it does require software tweaking and a reboot to do so. Even so, it’s still just over half the capacity of the battery in the gigabyte.
interesante video como se demuestra en una laptop los aviones....
Im gonna buy this
I need it
144hz
thin light
8th gen H cpu
GOOD BATTERY
gtx 1070 max-q
tell me whats bad, besides sound
Sound will be fine on headphones and will help against fan noise if gaming, its the speakers that are the problem. Can't have it all i suppose!
No g-sync. That's bad if ur a gamer...
Is that true if the panel has 144z refresh? The 1070q will push 60+fps for most games at 1080p. I'd prefer to have 3-4 times (or more) longer battery life with optimus on a laptop than g-sync.
The shitty speakers kill this laptop.
I wish more people would care that the speakers sound good in a 2,000$ laptop.
Naaa G-Sync is really a thing at low frame rate if the screen have a good refresh over the 60 freme/sec the g-sync is not so important and consider that with a G-sync certified laptop the cost will rise of 200 dollars more or less only for license and stuff and also will disable the Gpu switching between nvidia and the integrated one (that for guys like me that also work with the laptop is a selling point), the MSI have the hardware for the G-Sinc but is disabled (by purpose?) maybe to keep this thing in place (price and gpu switch)?
wow amazing, i love VENEZUELA, i love VIETNAM, i love INDONESIA, you are the best :)

Harsh Vardhan Sharma how do you find the speakers on it?
neelsn007 just average... Typical laptop speakers.. Not much to say...
what about those issues that someone reported on the keyboard (key combination lock/sound etc) and what about the trackpad is it usable? does it have dead zone? while typing does it catch your palm (palm retantion)?
Still one of the best sys out there in its class, definitely, it will be my next purchase laptop and thank you for the prompt reply

Does it have g-sync?
no. The new Asus 501m has switchable g-sync but requires a reboot. It's to my knowledge the only laptop of this class to offer that right now.
the Zephyrus is g-sync also
Gabriele De Carli the Asus gm501m has the option for gsync but requires a software setting change and a reboot each time you change it which is a little clumsy but doable.
Personally, I'd rather have optimus for longer battery life anyway.
JimboJet737 so is it easy change to gsync and optimus?

great to see thermal and audio testing (can't understand why so few reviewers use tools)

Please add a text pop up to the section of the video where you criticize the design of the laptop's thermal solution noting you incorrect assertion.

You can clearly see in the thermal image of the bottom that the fan vents are cool, meaning they are intake (just as the hinge vents on top/back are the hottest area of the laptop as shown in the top picture).
Look at the thermal design of something like the Razer Blade and it is almost the exact same design, except Razer opted to not include the center vent on the bottom (design aesthetic probably outweighed the minimal cooling benefits of such a vent).

sarend01 so it's better to have cold air sucking in from the bottom when it's likely blocked by clothes?
