Great video! Bought a 98 as my first just to learn ATV mechanic and ATV in general before moving to something more powerful/complex when needed. Was helpful.
Bought mine used so first thing I did was switch the diff fluids to Synthetic and the oil to Rotella T6 5w40 which is wet clutch compatible. Use a K&N filter with the nut on top for easy changing. Hundreds of kms and many years later still purring like a kitten. Great machine.
I just got my used kodiak and wondered if there were any odd tricks to changing the oil. Apparently not. I was almost preparing to leave some smart-Alec comment but then you told everyone to turn the torque wrench down to zero. If you were one of my employees you would have just got a promotion for basic responsibility. Also the filter wrench tip was quite good. I guess what I’m saying is this video was very well made and informative and I wish more people did them this way. Thanks for taking some pride in your work, wish you success.
Just bough 2003 kodiak 400 , you have the best channel. I am frenchy of Quebec 😉 my English is bad but you are easy the way you film your stuff. Very big Merci Beaucoup, will watch everything you do 👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼❤️🇨🇦
I found an online manual that gives all the specs. Not connected with it, and don't know if somebody would get mad if I posted a link to it, so I won't, but it IS out there to be found and is a complete version. Very helpful to me as a new owner.
3/8 would most likely work. I can’t remember. It seems like they were around 15ftlb or so. You can download the manual online and it will have the torque for that. 1/4 drives are usually in inch lb and I use those on things like 10mm bolts and smaller stuff.
@@design2survive what size tires do you run? I need some mud tires and wonder if you can run 27 or 26 be better? I’m thinking 26x12x12 on the rear and 26x10x12 on the front.

Great job at explaining the process step by step, very easy to follow and a professional job

Thanks, very good video. Also appreciate the information on the filter wrench.
BeerBottleBaby thank you..and thanks for watching!
Great video! What is the oil capacity and weight?
Thank. Just bought a 2001 my first ATV. This video helped a lot.
I found that the drain plug with the screen is a 19mm
Could you drain the oil through the middle bolt only in theory?
Thank you for your video as I didn't know about filter wrench.I am going to buy today hehehe
Perfect for my 2001! Thanks a ton!!
Can you buy owner manuals for them? I have a 03 Kodiak and no manual forit
nice grizzly 450 -07 this video helped a lot
Go to the lowest setting on the torque wrench, don’t go past it and don’t go to zero. If the lowest setting is 15 then put it on 15.
Great video!!!!!!! Thanks
How much do I torque down the screen drain?
So that's what my quad looked like when it was new!
Lol seriously. Mine looks like it sat near the surface of the sun for a couple decades. Still runs like a top though!
Здравствуйте, скажите пожалуйста а сколько пробег?
What size torque wrench needed for engine oil drain bolt? 1/4 drive or 3/8 drive ? What’s the torque spec on that bolt 18?

@@design2survive thanks for the fast reply bro! I think you had said 16 in the video and I’ll go with 3/8 drive. Thanks again.
@@joelbell1360 yeah a 15-75 wrench should meet most of the needs on bikes like this.

Not metal, clutch, wet clutch. That’s why it’s important to change the oil.
hi what oil do you use?
Yamaha
How much oil did you put in it
Needs 2.5 quarts. It holds 2 quarts for sure with filter change. Then add just shy of half a quart to be on the hash marks.
Good info!
Thank you bro
Dont loosen with torque wrench, other than that good video.
Didn't say how much oil lol.... Frig
You should buy 3 quarts. If you remove the screen plug at the bottom, it uses 2.7 quarts to refill.
What filter.
