Good Job- I have a 2003 Kodiak 450. Just hit 300 hours in 2021 and recently changed the oil and thought I should truly appreciate how bullet proof this bike is. I also have Honda TRX250R and a Kawasaki but my go to is the Yamaha. When I was a cub scout in the early '80s I was in the Yamaha patrol because in my rural NorCal area we all rode Yamaha's.
Lost my 2007 over side of a logging road down about 300'. It barrel-rolled and shed plastic the whole way. The racks bent and crushed the fenders but the frame did not crack and it literally started right up. I just gathered up all the plastic. Only other issue I've had was a short in the harness that I fixed, and low charging. I replaced the rectifier which seems to fix that. I did rebuild the carb. It fits perfectly in my truck bed with the gate up. A reliable machine if you care for it.
I have a 2000 kodiak 400 I have had since new. Mine does not have a speedometer but I clocked it at 45 mph. It sat for a long time while I worked out of state but now I am cleaning it up and getting it ready to run again. This is a great little ATV. The low range is a nice feature. I just replaced the original Dunlops with a set of Carlisles. New calipers and pads and flush the brake lines. It should last longer than I will. Nice to see some are still out there running hard.
I have a 2005 Kodiak 450 with only 4000km on it. I like the independent rear suspension over the straight rear axle in snow. Only problem I had is to replace the battery once, until this week. It won't shift back from 4wd to 2wd after all winter. May be a corroded switch, or a bad relay or the front differential servo motor.
I’ve got a 2009 350 kodiak with the independent rear, I love that machine. It’s not the fastest but it’s reliable and does everything I ask of it from pushing snow to mud bogging to trail riding or working around the house.
I bought my Kodiak in 1995 brand new ,I called up my wheelchair! because I broke my back and had a spinal cord injury riding my 1972 Bultaco 360 El Bandido😮 the Lord help me walk again 😊I went back climbing 40 ft ladders painting Barns and houses for a living. and building log cabins homesteading in the wilderness all around the country😊 I still have my Kodiak ! It's 2005 now!. I'm going to rebuild the carburetor and cover the seat for the second time and replace the front master cylinder.what's I've had it in some really wild places from Lake Superior homesteading off-grid for 8 years to 20 years in the Ozarks in Arkansas homesteading homesteading .and homesteading in Wisconsin where I bought it. hauling a lot of building materials building log cabins hauling water and supplies pulling dear pulling logs ,trailers ect!! when I first bought it ,I pulled my 16 ft horse trailer with it😮 with the wife in the bag drinking a beer😅 I wish I wouldn't have done that but it was brand new😮 I flipped it upside down in a deep ravine in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan wilderness! trying to get by it and going around a tree.I jumped off it barly!turned upside down.it would have pin me to the ground 😢it did bend the rack a little bit😮 there was enough room in the bottom of the ravine to flip it back over again with a come along ,to a tree abouve.
I have 2001 400 (green) and 2004 400 (red) I've had them about 10 years now. These things are built like Tanks. The 2001 has hi/lo range so I always use it to pull the heavy loads.
Looking at one of these for $300, but has an engine knock and is stuck in park. From what I gather the park issue isn't much of a problem to fix, but what would your concerns be with the knock?
i have a 2002 i plow and do yard work with it . runs as new blew a cvjoint years back easy fix. paid 3k 15 years ago i cant believe what the new ones cost nowadays!!
Any chance you could tell me where the speedometer cable is attached to the engine? Just picked one up and it has a speedometer, but the cable is missing. Thanks,
I have two of these, a '00 and '01, and have had them since new. They really are the best quads ever made. Very reliable and overall pretty simple machines.
They are very good. I've had about 12 now. There better than the 450 in my opinion, I just can't recommend them over the 450 now as they are getting on so finding decent ones is hard. Only thing I really don't like is the non replaceable ball joints so you have to but complete control arms
Hey strange question here My father passed a few months back and left this bike to my sister and myself, I've driven it many times but there is one thing I don't know and I'm not sure where else to ask 😅 When shifting from high to low or even engaging 4 wheel drive, do I need to let off the gas or come to a complete stop? Should I be trying to get the rpms up before shifting into high gear? any help would be appreciated 😊
i bought an 00 kodiak 400 about a year or so ago, and i havent really been able to figure out how to adjust the idle, could you make a video on it or tell me how? or if you have a video about it or looking around the carb could you post a link please? thank you in advance.
Have fun adjusting the fuel screw... its in a stupid place. even with a 90 degree pinion screwdriver its difficult as hell the nipple for the breather tube gets in the way and causes the pinion's teeth on the bit side of the screwdriver to catch so you cant tell if the if you jumped off the flat head slot in the screw or what. Lots of OEM parts are discontinued including the boots on both side of the carb. Although yours seems to be in decent condition.... the one im having the displeasure of working on had cockroaches crawling from it soon as i took the seat off. You'd think it was a scene from the first men in black movie..... MORE SUGAR WATER!!!!
Nice bikes, old-fashioned engine by todays standards. Essentially a scaled up version of the engine in this which is now a 20 year old design. Having said that it's incredibly hard wearing and if I had to pick a new bike now it would be that or a Polaris - which have come on loads in the last 5 years.
I had a 96 400 , great machine but front bearings suck and back brake system sucks . Engine and drive train the best , even bt todays standards . Best part about that machine is in low range , you could pull anything. But man at 660 pounds, you need that winch!
Best Utility quad Sport quads are better My family has one of these with a 400EX pipe welded on so it’s really loud and performs better It’s better than the grizzly
@@lucasfromdavalley that’s not the only reason lol I mean look at them The corners look sharper The grizzly was made to look smoother on the plastics and I don’t regally like that

I just picked up this identical bike, non-running, for $500.
Cleaned the carb, runs like a champ.

Hi! Just want to say your quad reviews are really helpful. Keep them coming!
I bought a 2006 model last weekend in near new condition for 2500 absolutely love it
Great bike. I have the 2017 700 epi. Did a rad relocate and snorkel kit to it. Tons of fun playing in the mud. Great vid and be well.

Thanks :) just bought one, paid a bit much but compared to continuing to dump money and time into parts on my polaris I couldn't be happier.
I got a 06 Yamaha kodiak 400 and i love it, Great Vid👍

just got a Yamaha Kodiak 400 for free. Needs a lot of work however, any videos out there on a complete redo of all the electronics on this bike??
I've done it before but no videos as far as I'm aware. Why do you need to replace everything??
This thing has been through alot but starts perfect wow.
Can u show how to fix the head lights I got a 2005 Kodiak 400 4 wheel drive automatic having problems with it starting to
Have you swapped parts or frames from an 01 to an 04? I'm wondering if I could swap everything from an 04 frame to an 01 frame.
I have an issue with shifting when machine is running and it is automatic what oil it be
Why won’t my Kodiak go above 10mph even though I’m red lining it
Your opinion of a 1993 Kodiak 400 4x4?
How would u get a wiring harness for that but I need one for a 2x2 not a 4x4
2x2 XD it’s 2x4 lad that would be an all wheel drive motorbike

you need to come to a complete stop and press on the foot brake lever pedal at the same time
Totally agree man. Best fricken machine ever made. 🇨🇦
Nah, big bear 350 is the best. These have 23hp and the 350 has 37hp
Just got 700 dollar 03 project 450..somebody was into the topend..so it will a fun project.
The grizzly was introduced back in 1998, because I owned a 1999 Yamaha grizzly 600
Yep you are correct cuz I worked at a Yamaha dealership back in the 90's and they grizzly was the big stink in 98.
Will you be going to get a mother Honda like another foreman or a trx300
Almost definitely at some point. Depends what comes up.

Does the cvt wet clutch run from engine oil or does it have a separate sump?
Engine oil
I flipped mine 30 to 40 times down a huge pipeline and I still ride it its vfc just kinda f***ed
