Wow! Scotty to the core! So cool seeing James Doohan on this episode and playing a Scots man no less! His calling as Chief Engineer was still a few years away and yet here he is getting some practice! A good man. God rest him in peace.
For those who may not know, Mr. Doohan lost a finger in WWII. If you pause as 3:50 you can easily see his missing finger. He was able to conceal throughout his Star Trek days.
Awww!! 🥺❤️ I love James Doohan sm! He’s so cute and was such a great actor! I feel so proud to be Canadian now, knowing that he’s Canadian and that he helped defend our country in WWII! What a hero!
Notice he holds his hat in his hands when on the couch, that was to conceal his right hand and the missing middle finger he lost at Juno Beach on D-Day, a German sniper shot it off. He was a Canadian artilleryman. In every Trek episode his right hand is always hidden in some way so as not to draw attention to it; a clenched hand, behind his back, holding a prop, a camera angle. Didn't know that? Now you do.
I’ve known this fact for some time now, and whenever I watch some scenes with him, I always watch his right hand. I think there’s like two scenes in the whole original series where you can see his hand with missing finger (but only if you look EXTREMELY closely lol)
It's just a plaid sweater, typical of Scotland. And not just horses, but Clydesdales. Just like not just any sword, but a Claymare. Heard that Some one had that wrong somewhere.

It's weird, him looking this young. But in reality, he's probably much older, than he appears here. Either that, or he sure aged, in the next few years, until Star Trek.

Jimmy put real warmth into that performance. I wish he’d had more parts after Star Trek.
In an interview, Doohan said that this was the first and only time he ever used a Scottish accent before "Star Trek".
Red shirt too. Scotty's mannerisms too, if not his speech patterns.
He was a nice looking man in those days. It is fun to see him pre Scotty with the same accent. He was a solid actor for sure!
Did you know he was a World War II hero?
And he was 41/42 here to boot.
@@frankENZC He lost one of his middle fingers on D-day.
@@The_Gallowglass And received five bullet wounds to the body.....
James is even in a red shirt too! Love this show.
I just saw this on TV! I remember James Doohan from the original Star Trek.
Scotty before Star Trek. Man, this guy was so underrated!
"I'm a Scot!" Hm, actually you are a Scotty, no THE Scotty.
Scotty before Star Trek, and with the accent too! I feel like I've died and gone to heaven... XD

He was really born a Canadian.
Good man. First class.
The way he hides his hand is so nonchalant, that it’s unnoticeable.
Wonder how many people know about the missing finger.
Awwww.. James Doohan was so cute.
Cute? He was pretty!!!😍
>> "Hazel, I'm giving you all the power she's got!"
Wow never seen such a young scotty!
And to think a four years later he left her to become chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise.
Using his hat to hide his missing index finger. Lost it in WW11. Great man. Gone almost 20 years now. 😢
WOOOOOOOOW. WHAT ARE THE F*CKIN ODDS. THE ACCENT AND HE HAS A RED SHIRT ON. THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOUD. THIS WAS SPECIAL.
A sweet moment on film.
Pretty damn good actor.
About time he got the girl, and get to keep her. ;)
This is Scotty, on leave from the Enterprise, using the name Gordy.

Wearing a red sweater and doing a Scot's accent 4 years before Star Trek. :)
Bless him... he was playing Scotty because he got contorl of the Enterprise. 🙄 I miss him soo much. 🖖

Douglas Lally it wasn’t a German sniper, it was a trigger happy Canadian at night
Michelin Stars i had to look that up but you are correct. I thought it was a German.

I remember this show...Hazel drove Mr Baxter nuts! 😂😂😂
Hazel made everything right. And so did Scotty.
Strange he didn't mention his precious dilithium crystals!
A scene here that might have won him the role on Star Trek.
oh god , this would be so good to use in some star trek fan film. Though i dont know how much u could use with him talkin about angie and horses.
Scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m use to him being Scotty
I wonder if this is what got Doohan the gig for Scotty.
That Whitney Blake was beautiful .Mr.B was lucky. Only thing was i read he couldn't get it up. Lol
Is there any particular reason why he's wearing a "red" sweater?
He's cold and he likes red...

He died in this episode.
Very neat...
Yes, it is surprising he played a scottish accent, as he was Canadian
Yeah, but he is of Irish stock and he knew a man from Aberdeen. That's where he got the accent.
Beam me up, this place is full of squares!
As an English bloke he totally fooled me by the Scots accent. I bet he doesn't fool a scotsman :)
It's a shite accent!
Don't know how he got away with it at all.
Maybe a name like Doohan helped!, but no Scotsman says "heelands" for 'highlands'.

They should have kept Angie the way she looked. She was just as beautiful . All you had to do was look into her eyes.
He was always Scotty, even though he was Irish.
Dude couldn't notice his future wife when she was right in front of him, yet they still gave him the keys to the Enterprise, SMH.

My Scottish grandmother told me when I was quite young that people from Scotland are not "Scotchmen".
True.
Some of them are Scotchwomen...
Will we be having Romulan ale for dinner tonight?
Just dinna’ say you know more about warp engines than him!
Who's the maid that's got it made?
So why did he pass her Right at the door ?
Because she had her hair done! Pay attention!
lol it's just Scotty in a silly sweater.
What the heck? Didn’t he ever act w his real accent? The man was Canadian!
He should try sci fi
I know he was American really. Did he have Scottish ancestry? If not, how many times did he play a Scot?
