  • I love Bones :D But soon I realised that there's another great character, but one who seems to be underrated: that's Scotty! He's just lovely and so is James Doohan. I couldn't find any compilation video of his portrayal of Scotty, so I decided to make one myself. It's my first video I ever made, took me ages to do it.. So enjoy watching some scenes with Star Trek's best chief engineer! :)
    Special thanks to Chrissie and her page: www.chakoteya.net/
    LLAP!
    It's Paramount Pictures' stuff, all rights reserved and so on, I do not own anything, nor do I profit from this video: it's just for fun and fans!

    "Scotty" did more to boost engineering as a profession than anything on TV. I became an Engineer because of him. Godspeed, James Doohan, and may your path be in the light.

    I recall an interview with Doohan later in life. He'd basically retired to the convention circuit and talked about how much he enjoyed it. He got to travel for free, and was always surrounded by people who loved him, and he got to see firsthand that his legacy had been one of entertainment and inspiration. RIP James Doohan.

      Actual quote:
      " KORAX: Of course, I'd say that Captain Kirk deserves his ship. We like the Enterprise. We, we really do. That sagging old rust bucket is designed like a garbage scow. Half the quadrant knows it. That's why they're learning to speak Klingonese.
      CHEKOV: Mister Scott!
      SCOTT: Laddie, don't you think you should rephrase that?
      KORAX: You're right, I should. I didn't mean to say that the Enterprise should be hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away as garbage."
      That is a real insult, likely a script error.

    It's not Season One, but one of the best Scotty moment's was in Season 3's "The Enterprise Incident" when he was in command and the Romulan commander told him to surrender and follow them. "This is Lieutenant Commander Scott. The Enterprise takes no orders, except those of Captain Kirk. And we will stay right here until he returns. One of the best things about Star Trek TOS was the character development and it seemed every actor was perfectly typecast for the role they played. Also, the comedic relief was superiour. I remember reading, I think it was in the old book, "The Making of Star Trek", that Doohan suggested making the character a Scot. The reasoning was the number of Scotsmen who were great engineers in the Industrial Revolution and beyond. And Roddenberry liked it, so Scotty became Scotty.

    James Doohan did that scene of refusing a damn fool order from a "superior" officer in real life at 2:21. Jimmy was a young officer in charge of an artillery battery and some jackass gave a fire mission order that would have hit friendly troops. Jimmy courageously refused. Of all the temptresses they had in TOS, Mudd's Women were the best. Those three were so good, even off their beauty drugs.

    • @daffidavit
      @daffidavit 5 років тому +1

      @@samsonguy10k I disagree. All of the women on TOS had a special beauty to them. Gene Roddenberry, or whomever he allowed to select the beautiful women to play their parts on Star Trek, TOS was all wonderful. Most of them could act pretty well, but there was a handful that was simply beautiful in every way.
      One of my favorites was when Captain Garth, later Lord Garth, had his Green painted Andorian slave woman to do the dance for Kirk. She was clearly a dancer by profession. I've never seen leg muscles on a woman from back in the sixties until years later when women started working out in Gyms. But this Andorian green painted dancer was so perfect as a dancer and actor that she made my heart go "pitter patter" as a young boy. Too bad Lord Garth had to explode her on the unbreathable surface of the planet Kirk was confined to during the series. I think it was in season three. BTW, please correct me if I'm wrong about the "green-skinned" women being Andorian.
      I'll come back here to amend this comment if I can find out more about her and if she was really Andorian. I stand corrected. She is an Orion.

    • @daffidavit
      @daffidavit 5 років тому

      @@mnixon359 Yes, you are right, I should have caught that. Even in the first pilot, the Cage, during the dance scene, the men during the party sequence referred to the green dancing woman as an "Orion". But Andorians are green as well, so I wasn't completely off base.
      But it is well settled in Star Trek lore that Orion women have special powers and abilities far beyond go the mortal woman. "No man can resist them". I want an Orion woman right now, this very moment.
