Oh my goodness, you are the embodiment of the "takes off glasses and becomes prettier" trope haha ...I've been on agonizing on the fence for several weeks now since I was given a kindle basic which, while it drives me crazy taking several tries to turn the page, is still very nice and less than 3 years old Buuut....yeah I guess I'm gonna go order a libra color. If it isn't the magical experience I think it is, walmart can expect me at their returns counter lolol
I’m in Canada and I bought the Kobo Libra Colour this week based partly off your reviews. I’m surprised that on my Kindle unlimited I could only have 20 books…and on my new Kobo subscription I can have as many books as I want. That… was the dealbreaker for me. Thanks for your reviews on this device.
Hi everyone, When I show Double Highlight, I am using a protected Advanced Reader Copy ascm file that has been converted to an authorized ePub by Adobe Digital editions. I hope that helps. - MJ
@@M-J yeah, it's weird. Not a big deal for me, I tend to highlight and then underline some of the underlined parts if need to "highlight" that even more. It works better for my brain that way, but it would be nice to have the other options to for when a "underline" is "too much" (again, just how my brain works).
I know you said rhetorical question 😀. Can't help myself, Kobo stylus is active like Apple Pencil, Kindle stylus is EMR and does not need to be charged as it is inactive. The power is in the Wacom digitizer on the Kindle 😊
@@M-J essentially, the Kobo stylus works by communicating with the device via a radio (maybe a Bluetooth radio?). That radio needs power, so there’s a battery in there to charge that radio, and that battery will eventually run out. The Kindle screen has a layer that has its own little electrical field running through it when the power is on. It gets its charge from the Kindle battery. There’s a material in the stylus tip that interrupts the charge, and a layer in the screen that senses where the charge is interrupted. There’s no radio or any kind of communication happening inside the Kindle pen, so it doesn’t need to be charged. All the electrical wizardry is happening in the kindle itself.
I love my kobo libra colour! In Canada you can get your library books on kobo but not kindle, which is a huge plus for me. I’ve loved the kobo since I switched in May, and I’ve read more graphic novels with the colour. Currently reading Tress of the Emerald Sea!
I’m in Australia, and here, our library ebooks are only compatible with Kobo, which is why I am contemplating purchasing one. Otherwise I’d be happy to keep using my Kindle for ebooks. Obviously I use audio and read physical books too but library books for me can only be read on my phone or tablet, so I’m thinking about a Kobo eReader. Thanks for offering your honest opinion!
Glad to know the little things make you happy, however that is a nice find and in effect if it works, you have double the colors, which means you can emphasize a point should you so wish on the same page, a word in a paragraph or a number etc.
See and that’s what steers me from a kobo. All the ceremonies just to get a netgallery arc…. Kindle makes it so simple. I just wish they would make a color oasis to scratch my itch for the kobo libra color tho lol
I just ordered a Kobo, I have a Kindle Paperwhite and a Scribe which I love. I plan to transfer my Nook library to the Kobo. I just can’t justify buying another Nook device from Barnes & Noble. I can’t seem to find any how to videos on the transfer. Any suggestions?
Hmmmmm. I’m new at transferring myself. I would search specifically for Nook to Kobo videos. Maybe watch tutorial videos on Calibre as well - maybe you will discover the tip you need. Best of luck & enjoy your Kobo.
Im highly debating the kobo. Im not super invested in my kindle ill probably keep it for certain titles not available but i should be able to transfer almost everything i want to. The annotating feature is so appealing for me. 😍
I have been tempted by the Boox over the Kobo for color eink because that device can run the Kindle app as well as most other ereader applications. But I don’t annotate which seems like the Kobo strength.
@@anotherbibliophilereads I have both the kobo color and the Bigme color ( Boox competitor ) and I like the Bigme better as I have all of my reader apps in one place.
Watching your videos, I have been thinking about the Kobo Libra Colour 2 for WEEKS! I have been using Kindles for YEARS, I want to wait for Kindle to come out with their colour version (rumored to come out next year… but it feels like FOREVER). I guess I have only one question that will give me the final push to consider the Kobo, how do you revisit all the annotations? Including the ones on the library books and are they still available after the books are returned?
@@lylainewu1200 Hello 👋🏻 I’m going to have to put this to the test for a future video with specific details! I can tell you there is a dedicated “annotations” menu for purchased books and owned ARC’s as well as link to Dropbox and Google Drive. I hope that little bit of info. helps for now.
Thanks for the review! I've got an older Kobo Nia (I've had one Kobo or another for about fifteen years now), and was thinking of getting the pretty colour one when this one reaches its natural end. It's great to know the battery life is still really good. In a bit of a reading slump, but I'm hopefully starting _ACOTAR_ in the next few days in audio, and _The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding_ on the kobo (Yay! Library!)
@@M-J Yes, me too! I'm extremely mixed on romantasy as sometimes I love it, and sometimes it feels very thin (I wish I had Gareth's sunny outlook), but a few chapters in and I'm really enjoying it.
Might just get one of these to replace my Kobo Libra, which has a micro-USB port for charging. Currently reading Grapes of Wrath. I read Of Mice and Men as a middle schooler, and remembered liking it, so I read it again recently. WOW. Very short, but such a great book!
@@tif603 Hmmmm. I was able to replicate it twice. I used an ARC acsm file that Adobe Digital Editions converted over to an ePub - maybe that’s the secret?
I still love mine....but the lack of non-mainstream titles on it still has me reaching for my kindle. I have accidentally double highlighted before...but now I need to try mixing the colours!
Omg, purple! I have to get one. How do you like the buttons vs the touchscreen from the kindle? So you are saying the kobo does not come with a speed setting for the fan! You look great and very helpful video.
I enjoy both devices. You don’t have to use the buttons on the Kobo, touch screen or swiping works as well. I’m not sure I understand the speed setting, but I have zero complaints about the device. Thanks!🙏🏻
Ive been on the fence about which e reader to get for weeks, i think i definitely want to go Kobo due to Canadian library tomfoolery but beyond that im not sure. I have no need to ever write on books, and i would be using it for a healthy mix of regular style books and manga, which is basically all black and white anyway. Since the Libra BW has been discontinued this seems like my best option, even though the colour part doesn't necessarily appeal to me. Just not sure if a 6 inch screen would be sufficient for manga though if i went with a smaller model, and heard the Sage battery life is horrid
Thank you for the review MJ. Glad you’ve enjoyed your experience especially as an annotator. Just getting used to the Kobo Nia & love it as a big library user (no UK Library Kindle compatibility) but good to know about future possibilities 👍🏻
