    Apple owes you a lot for telling how to use their software for various creative purposes. Such a great tool! I though it was just for creating silly titles and transitions for FCPX and never had an idea of what it’s really capable of.

      michaos1 I’m not sure why there’s this perception about Motion. Maybe because Apple doesn’t advertise it. Motion is very deep and is a program one needs to learn to understand its capabilities. One of their best, especially for $50. Works well with Keynote too.

      I agree Apple doesn't have much guidance or tutorials about apple motion.

      Glad you liked that - sometimes it's the more subtle effects that give a design the edge and you picked out the one thing I was really wanting to showcase here.

    i really enjoyed watching this. I've just done one myself too. Although I could not follow through adding the clouds and gaussian blur adjustment towards the end. So I skipped it and added the camera and lights. It made a significant difference in making it look 3D! Nevertheless it is a great tutorial.

    this is too cool ! I'll never need something like this in my projects but now I HAVE TO FIND a reason to fit it into! Is there anything you don't know about this motion thing?

    Thank you very much for the tutorial!
    A few questions: did you use Numbers as the source of the generator through a clone - because the text generators used directly as the source of the replicator and emitter are very buggy?
    It is also incomprehensible trick with Color Solid - did you put it in the title of the list somehow yourself?

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  5 років тому +2

      To be honest I used the Numbers generator because it has always seemed the easiest way to go for a number sequence. I have not encountered the bugs you refer to, although I have just recently moved over to a brand new system running and I am experiencing more crashes and problems than I have ever seen. I just don't understand the Color Solid problem - I have deleted and reinstalled Motion a few times to try and resolve it but no luck. But I know that not everyone is seeing this issue so it's a real puzzle. I have submitted feedback so hopefully Apple will fix it because it's diving me crazy. I always wanted to have the Color Solid more readily accessible but I was hoping it would actually work when they did it!!!!!!

      @@SimonUbsdell I often noticed that if use text generators as sources for a replicator or emitter directly, not through a clone, they shut down Motion when you try to adjust the parameters of the generator or emitter. What is very disappointing, especially with 3D text, which loses its properties when cloned.

    Thank you Simon again for such another grate tutorial. Apple should build you a monument in their stores ;-). Just one question: I cannot explain why my level effect applied to the glow layer is not visible during the playback of the project... I can see the right color in the miniature in the upper left corner, but in the main view area I only see BW circles glowing. When I export the movie, I can see the right colors...

      Thanks very much! I have to say that I don't know what is causing the issue you are seeing but if you would like to email me your project I'd be happy to take a look: simon@tokyo-uk.com

    i wonder if you could do this effect in Fusion, and if so what the playback speed would be on the same machine?

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  5 років тому +1

      Yes, you could something like this in Fusion and make it look much fancier, but whereas I can get realtime playback of this project in Motion, you still can't get that kind of performance in Fusion.
