Growing up in Florida, Jimmy Buffet was the bomb! My favorite is his first hit, "Come Monday". He has many great songs
Aww I forgot about that song. Man this was the block party music from July 4th to Labor day.
You get prettier and prettier every time lady. Both are awesome
I always LOVED Come Monday! Amber would really like it, too.
Son of a Sailor and Changes in Latitude are great songs too!
Oh my gosh I’m a huge Buffer fan and that is my favorite!!!
In memory of Jimmy Buffett who we lost last night, I think "Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes" is a very appropriate song for what he represented. RIP Jimmy.
Yes-- PLEASE!
I miss him too
Love it also.
Its not a place, its a state of being Brother.........R.I.P. and Godspeed Jimmy🥰🥰🥰🥰
Jimmy Buffet is one of the all time greats. Nothing beats a Parrothead party! So many great songs but no Jimmy Buffet sampling would be complete without the classic "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw?"
One of his best imo is the colab with Alan Jackson "Its 5 O'clock Somewhere".
@@memnarch129 he’s says like 3 words in that song😂
Parrot head Party and Drunk and screw sound like like your dress up like Peg leg Pete and get kinky lol.
rest in paradise 😔 🕯
He (Jimmy) and Zac Brown are amazing! Knee Deep.....In the water somewhere. If you have not looked into Zac Brown Band....Do it!!!!!
RIP Jimmy Buffett...... so many damn beautiful songs
Yes, he took us ALL to "Margaritaville"! Bless him, now he's eating a "Cheeseburger in Paradise"! Thanks for your reaction.
*_Rest In Peace Jimmy_*
*_Job Well Done, Sir_*
"Come Monday" is mandatory!! I also have a soft spot for "Pencil-thin Mustache" but there are a few references in that song that you guys won't know...it's still a great tune.
Ah... I've been to the original Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Key West, Florida. If you ever go, be sure to make your way on down the street and try out a real sloppy joe from Sloppy Joe's Bar. A lot of great history in that one little island.
LOL I was gonna say, Key West is the first place that comes to mind when I hear Jimmy Buffet.
And F*** YEAH Sloppy Joes is my favorite bar in Key West! Great food, good drinks, good music, awesome vibes!
As a proud Floridian, who grew up near the beach, Jimmy Buffett is the holy grail of tropical music. His concerts are always fun and his music will lift your spirits! This is a big rabbit hole, but one you will enjoy!
RIP Jimmy Buffet ... always had great songs! Will miss him!!
Jimmy really knows how to write songs that tell stories that people can relate to. "He Went to Paris" and "A Pirate Looks at Forty" are two of my favorites.
I was going to suggest those two songs as well.
I love He Went to Paris. My African Friend is great, as well.
The 2 songs you suggested along with Tin Cup Chalice and Reason with a Hurricane Season.
My two faves as well
A pirate looks at 40 reminds me of me in the days of my miss spent youth in South Florida's southeast coast.
Jimmy was born in Mississippi, grew up in Alabama(hence the twang) and after college moved to Key West(where he started writing the "island" music), then he spent most of his life on the Gulf Coast.
Great tune. Underneath the happy island feel is the tragic story of an alcoholic becoming aware of his habit. In the first chorus, he sings "Some people claim that there's a woman to blame, but I know it's nobody's fault." By the end, he's singing "... and I know it's my own damn fault". It truly is a masterpiece of lyrics and music, creating the impression that "Margaritaville" is an island paradise -- then making it clear that it is a drunken delusion.
It's easy to miss the real point of this real-life story.
IKR, these kids totally missed it! That's part of the genius of the song. The juxtaposition of that jubilant island party music with a story of a guy wallowing in drunken despair over a situation he created.
Hearing the "lost verse" version makes it a lot more obvious. Much harder to spin it as a happy tune
Don't over think it. It's a song.
I always interpreted it as a guy getting over a break up. Going from blaming her for everything, to accepting "yeah, I fucked that up on my own"
You really don't understand this song. The song mentions nothing about getting drunk and regretting hit life's decisions. There is a reference to drinking but not to getting drunk. The reference to there being a woman to blame and it being his fault. What male of the species hasn't been in the same situation with a woman when it comes to break up. there always doubts as to what went wrong and whose fault it was. Have you ever been to the Florida Keys? It is a different culture than anywhere else and it's fun to watch the tourists trying to fit in on their two week vacations and looking totally out of place. Lighten up and quit reading something into the song that isn't there. Another song to listen to is "There's a cowboy in the jungle."
The FL Keys is where you’ll find it! We parrot heads appreciate this reaction. Saw Buffet on the show “ Blue Bloods” several months ago. Pleasant surprise. I’ve been to so many of his shows. Used to come to Starlight around Pittsburgh a lot. I also love that little bit of 🇯🇲 added!
“A pirate looks at forty” one of the greatest songs ever written!
Agree completely!
Without a doubt
On this same album is "Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes" and "Son of a son of a sailor", they always brings me such strong nostalgia for my younger days
Good songs
Son of a Son of a Sailor is actually the title track from the album after this one.
When I worked out of the country for a non U.S. owned company and got paid in local currency, when Banana Republic was played, everyone in the room got really silent because we all identified with it.
@@Dan-C-71 yep...too many people just have Song you know by heart lol
This used to be on the radio so much when I was a kid during the summer, that it still always takes me back to being at the campground with my family as a kid. 40 something years ago, and most of them are gone now....but for a few minutes listening to this, I'm right back there sitting at the campfire roasting marshmallows and hot dogs on a stick looking up at the stars.
There are some really beautiful songs in his catalog, but most people have never heard them
Yes indeed, send me to Margaritaville immediately.
He has a following like the Grateful Dead but we’re called Parrot Heads. His outdoor concerts are the best way to experience Jimmy Buffet…
Sand in the parking lot and a whole audience doing “fins to the right, fins to the left”
Jimmy Buffett turned that sound into career and it turned them into one of the most successful musicians in history. Seriously the man is a billionaire.
Wife here..Yes..,ultimate vacation song and artist!!..Was in town a few days ago...(Charlotte NC)..his fans are affectionately called "Parrotheads"..Amber it totally has an Island- Country sound..Well said..!!!
"Blew out my Flip-Flop, stepped on a pop top." ICONIC line from an ICONIC song.
Back in the 70s in Santa Barbara, a radio station was giving away tickets to a Buffett concert at the County Fair. It included a bus ride up to Santa Maria with a margarita bar, a stop on the way at Cold Spring Tavern where we picked up hamburgers, and the concert. No one wanted margaritas on the way home. lol Jimmy Buffett is in a class all by himself. ♥ So happy you love him too.
Jimmy is the ultimate story teller....please do more!!!
Jimmy turns 76 this year on Christmas. He tours every year. He has multiple albums, all great. Look up Margaritaville Restaurants they are all over the country. The original one is in Key West. I've seen him 3 times in concert. Lot of songs to pick from.
Yes! Now listen to some of his more serious songs. “He Went to Paris” is a MUST!
You guys finally discovered Jimmy!!! I'm so happy for you!!! Margaritaville is his signature song and biggest hit, but he has no shortage of amazing tunes. One Particular Harbour, A Pirate Looks At Forty, Earl's Dead - Cadillac For Sale, Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Tin Cup Chalice, and Book On The Shelf are just a few of my favorites. You really can't go wrong with anything he's done and he'll take you down island no matter where you are.
Jimmy Buffet, born on Christmas day and still 75 years young ! I love the lyrics how it starts as " nobodies fault" , then " hell it could be my fault " and ends with "its my own damn fault " . I think we all see times in our lives like that . I hope you continue on this parrothead ( what the fans are called ) journey. I've enjoyed Jimmy since i was 11 in '77. I wore out my 45 of this and "Cheeseburger in Paradise". Can you believe Jimmy is worth 900 million? he earned every penny. God bless that man.
😭
I miss him too @@ViperLime-uy9tw
I graduated HS in 76 and joined the military and retired 20 later...every beach and every boat I was on around the world the Margaritaville 8-track...cassette and now CD was always playing...64 now in the Ozarks of NW Arkansas still got Jimmy with me....
"God's own Drunk" greatest singing folktale blues cover ever!!
The island vibe comes a lot from his choice of instruments. The Steel drums for example.
"A Pirate Looks at Forty" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" You'll love both of these Jimmy Buffet hits. It's tropical beach music baby!
Tropical and Southern. Total Florida vibe. Especially Key West
Come Monday-a beautiful song by Jimmy Buffet. He has an EXTENSIVE catalogue! Lots of fun songs!
Magaritaville is an alcohol and left-handed cigarette induced state of mind. My two favourite songs by Jimmy are Pencil Thin Moustache and Volcano.
At the 1987 America's Cup Jimmy Buffett would appear unannounced, guitar over shoulder, in a random Freo pub and put on free impromptu concerts.
Jimmy has been throwing down some of the best live concerts (including tailgating scene) for many decades!
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. I can listen to his music all day long.
Sometimes during the week during the 80s, I’d play solo at the local watering hole in my little home town. Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie and Waylon and plenty of Buffett songs mixed in.
Come Monday, Son Of A Son Of A Sailor, A Pirate Looks At Forty, Death Of An Unpopular Poet, Why Don’t We Get Drunk, He Went To Paris, Grapefruit Juicy Fruit, Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season…..
Folks never got tired of hearing Jimmy Buffett songs…..
I was in the Marine Corps when this came out. I was with the 5th Marine Regiment which was based in an area of Camp Pendleton, CA called 33 Area aka Camp Margarita. Of course, this song became our unofficial regimental boozing song. About every 3rd or 4th song that played in the base club was this one. Good times!
Thank you for your service colliedad! I salute you! 😀
Fox company
one of my older brothers was a fire fighter there at Camp Pendleton
I grew up in Florida (central gulf coast) and I remember Jimmy showing up at local bars and singing ad hoc! He is a treasure for sure!
I lived in Miami and would see him in restaurants and bars in Coconut Grove.
The 70s had a lot of the best feeling songs ever
Don't forget the steel drums, they make the Jimmy Buffet sound!
One of the most entertaining performers I've ever seen. Heck of a story teller. Tells one about when he played at a road house and took a break. Went outside and sat on the hood of a caddy to smoke a joint. Big dude came out and asked him to please get off the car. Jimmy thought about giving him a hard time but didn't. Guy got into the caddy and drove away. Someone asked Jimmy, "You know who that was?" It was Bufford Pusser of Walking Tall fame.
Jimmy and Margaritaville is KEY WEST 😀🌴
Great song, one of my sisters is a big Jimmy Buffett fan, or a “Parrot head” as they call themselves.
It's a place that is so magical!! The entire Florida Keys. This song put them on the map.
Come Monday is another awesome song by Jimmy Buffett. So sweet! Y'all will love it.
There was a plumb tree in the yard of the house I rented when I was in the Navy. Friends would come over and we lived on plumb margaritas with Jimmy Buffet set the mood in the stereo! Great memories! Loved your reaction! :)
Jimmy has built a near billion dollar empire on escapism and sentimental, family and party songs and experiences. Margaritaville was the start, but an extremely limited vision of his talent and musical catalog, including collaborations with many different genres and being a best-selling author and playwright.
And actor! Check out Hawaii 5-0
Don't forget his "Margaritaville Resorts". Those make bank
@@renafox4481and an episode of Blue Bloods!
A Pirate Looks At 40; is one of the best songs ever written. Love you -guys keep it up.
Howzit again, Todd from Honolulu,
I was going to let you and Amber know that Jimmy Buffett is another excellent Storyteller, Singer, Song Writer. I also play this song on Ukulele.
Jimmy Buffett has his own sound, it's a combination of Southern Country and Caribbean. Jimmy Buffett spent a great amount of time in the Caribbean Islands.
Mahalo and Aloha for now,
Todd
Just put his whole album Songs You Know By Heart on your vacation playlist, there is not a bad song on the whole album. It is as relaxing as you get.
Jimmy's sister, Lucy, owns the actual inspiration for Margaritaville. Ono Island is located just off the coastline of Orange Beach, Alabama.
When Hurricane Frederick hit, it literally changed the geography of the island. Florida tried to claim it, and Alabama said, "Oh no you don't!" Hence the name.
That's a myth . Alabama got the island and the area from Flora-Bama to the pass for building the bridge. Lulu's is in Gulf Shores on the intercoastal
I respectfully disagree on it being a myth, but I'm not going to argue about it.
I haven’t heard this song forever. I lived in Mexico for a year when I was 28 travelling in and out of work. I’m 50 now this has me thinking of moving back. It was a great time great people.
RIP Good Sir. Jimmy Buffett will be missed. This hit me hard today, so sad. R.
This is one of those really well-known songs that’s played it most functions. Great song and very catchy
Jimmy is also a gifted writer, as in novels.
The one and only Jimmy Buffet !!!! Just feel good !!!
Jimmy started out in Mobile Alabama as a "Country & Western" singer with some Rock & Roll influence, but growing up on the cusp of the Caribbean, he quickly added "Island" to "his sound". Margaritaville was one of his first adventures into that, and is the unofficial anthem of his fan base.
Jimmy Buffet is an icon here in Florida, a lot of his music revolves around the history and culture of the state. My favorite song of his you guys could check out is Beach House On The Moon.
Love me some Buffett. His books, music and life in general. Best concerts EVER.. Parrotheads are the bomb.
I went to one of his concerts - about a million years ago. Jimmy Buffet had a broken leg! Great concert!
George Strait - The seashore of Old Mexico You can't go wrong with Mr Jimmy Buffett!
YAY! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 One of my favorite singalong songs! This song just does not get old! I love it still after all these years! I am so glad you chose to react to this song! I am so glad you enjoyed it too! It has the island feel to it! My favorite line of the song is:
But there's booze in the blender
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on
Enjoyed your reactions! Cheers! 🍹🍸
Love love this song
It's awesome listening to this in a crowd. After he says, "lost my shaker of salt,", everyone shouts ,"Salt, salt, where's the damn salt!"
Jimmy B is so cool to see live in person! Great atmosphere and people really get into the show. During this song everyone yells "salt, salt, salt , salt." Good times!
You just got a whole generation singing and harmonizing with this song. Such a classic.
Margaritaville is a real place. It is Jimmy Buffet’s biggest restaurant. I have been there it is awesome. The one I went to was at Universal Studios in Florida, but there are others all over the USA
From Fla and Jimmy is a legend here. He can be heard on every beach. Come Monday should be the next song of his.
For more great Jimmy Buffet in that vain, check out "Havana Daydreamin'," "Son of a Son of a Sailor," or "Cheeseburger in Paradise." For another side of Jimmy Buffet, a truly serious and extremely beautiful song about lost love is "Coast of Marseilles."
You forgot his masterpiece song, "Why Don't We Get Drunk and S***?"
Anybody remember the name of the songs " find to the left and fins
To the right and you're the only game in town...
Sharks. ???
Volcano
@@donnabruhn6907 fins opening cut on volcano
The weather is hereI wish you were beautiful
I'm shocked you didn't mention how the chorus changed! It's my favorite part of this song! Garth Brooks took a page from Jimmy's playbook in his song "Two Pinia Coladas".
RIP Jimmy, thanks for so many songs and memories
Jimmy Buffet released this song in 1977. He wrote this song inKey West,Florida and his band is Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band. Always a great concert, I’ve seen him a lot being from Miami Florida.. his best concert to me was when he played at the Miami Marine Stadium, it’s a place where they they race boats. The stage was in the water. It’s like a big lagoon, man made like a place where they race cars only it’s water.watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸
My other favorite Jimmy songs are Fins, and Pencil Thin Mustache, although he has plenty of other worthy hits to react to.
This was a HUUUUGE hit in the 70s Did i say huge I MEAN HUGE lol
I like that duet he did with Martina McBride “Trip Around the Sun”. Also love his remake of this with Alan Jackson:)
Oh! and don't forget "Five O'clock Somewhere" with Alan Jackson :) ua-cam.com/video/BPCjC543llU/v-deo.html
Jimmy made at least a BILLION on this song with all the merchandise and all the concerts etc... the fans buy it up like there's no tomorrow!
Jimmy 's concerts are out of this world!!!
Jimmy Buffett is one of my absolute favorites. This is a rabbit hole you'll want to go down. I have seen him multiple times in concert and I have loved him every time. I own bunch of albums tapes CDs he is just incredible
Buffet has many great songs, "Come Monday", "Let's Get Drunk" (Not for kiddos), "Cheeseburger in Paradise", "Son of A Son of A Sailor", :Fins", and "A Pirate Looks At 40" just to name a few. Their fans are called Parrotheads, his concerts are a blast. He has done a duet with Alan Jackson "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere".
BTW, "Margaritaville" is Key West, FL.
If I ever need to just chill, this is the song I pick to start it off.
My fav's of his are the more deep songs like A Pirate Looks at 40 and Son of A Sailor.
The original Margaritaville was named JB’s Margaritaville and it was in Gulfshores Alabama Jimmy Buffet is from Mobile Alabama and his sister LuLu has a huge restaurant in Gulfshores to this day.
I also love Boat Drinks and Volcano.
Padre island and Jimmy Buffett songs. What good times and memories.
I am a lifelong Parrothead and so my son grew up listening to Jimmy, and Margaritaville was the standard, so it surprised me when he was 30 years old and asked me what a "pop top" was. Geez, I am old lol. Love your vids!
Another great reaction guys. Jimmy is great and an awesome songwriter. Anyone that can write a hit song about a cheeseburger is pretty darn good!! Try these songs on for size...Defying Gravity, A Pirate looks at Forty, Somewhere Over China and Son of a Sailor. Oh, I forgot Cheeseburger in Paradise.
If you guys ever decide to explore more Jimmy Buffett music, please check out, "He Went to Paris." It is at the same time one of the most beautiful and saddest stories I've ever heard.
1977 Thought the late 70s were disco,, Ya right 70s haters
RIP Jimmy Buffet. 9/2/23. Loved your music.
Ya'll play much of the music I first listened to 45 years ago, and still love today. You are sweet little babies!
I’ve seen Come Monday and Son of a Sailor mentioned and those are great as well, but my favorite is He Went To Paris. And that’s not a bad vacation destination either; even though the song itself is more introspective. I almost forgot Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes too.
I been to Margaritaville, in more ways than one. It's in Key West. A wonderful, wonderful place.
That does it! Where's my shaker of salt?
Jimmy Buffet is loads of fun.
Nothing but beach music.
I know this an older reaction, but grown up to Jimmy Buffett and this song always brought a smile to my heart, but now its so hard to not have a tear to go with that smile.
RIP Jimmy.
I love your reaction to songs guys. You have really grown in your analyzing, your ear for different instruments, your categories and all the rest. You're quick to sum it up too! Good job my friends !! Love you & the kids so much from space coast Florida🐳🐬💖
I suggest you check out Buffet's duet with Alan Jackson, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere." It's fun and relatable. The unusual sound you hear is a percussion instrument, the Xylophone or marimba.
xylophone? Or steel drums?
@@AndersonDawesWasRight definitely xylophone. Steel drums, good gues, have a distinctive bell like ringing sound. An example can be heard in the Beach Boys hit, "Cocomo."
I would totally recommend you take in one of Jimmy's concerts but, sadly, Mr. Buffet has passed away. A great loss to those of us who wanted to escape the garbage of everyday life and spend some time in Margaritaville. God bless you, Jimmy, you have made millions of lives happier.
RIP Jimmy. Nice poster of James Marshall Hendrix
The steel drums absolutely make this song fantastic! Love Jimmy Buffet!
Love this song! Also, there are a few restaurants themed after him called Margaritaville. My husband and I discovered one in downtown San Antonio. Pretty good food and the atmosphere is very laid back. I've also seen through a travel vlogger that there is a Margaritaville in the Caribbean that likes features a giant flip flop and also gives out flip flops. Might be worth checking out!
This song takes me back to the summer of '77 so much. It was my last summer of freedom, until retirement anyway. I had recently signed on the dotted line in several places (here, here, here, and initial here, here, and here, and press hard, there are four copies) and I was due to report to Uncle Sam the first week of September. That predicament bought me some new-found leeway from my mom that summer, and some friends and I spent part of the summer camping completely unsupervised on some rural land owned by one of my friend's family about 50 miles outside of town. All we had was a radio that barely picked up a Top 40 station from the city in the daytime, then poof, went to static when the station cut power promptly at 9 pm as required by the FCC. It was just as well, that gave us some quiet time to sit around the campfire and talk about life, the real part of which we were all on the verge of entering. Anyway, this song and anything that got a lot of top 40 airplay that summer is etched into my mind, and takes me right back to that time and place almost a half century ago (yikes).
I also remember my teen self not knowing what a margarita was nor realizing he was speaking metaphorically. Thinking he was singing about an actual town, and with cell service being notoriously weak in 1977, thereby leaving a quick check of Google Maps out of the question, I remember futility searching a Rand McNally road atlas to try to find it. It sounded like it should be in Texas, but nope. 😄
Has been a motto, for most of my life growing up in Florida since 1972. Mainland & Island life in the Caribbean! RIP brother
He's a Mississippi boy from the Gulf coast He was Born and raised in Pascagoula, MS. also the mobile, ALA. area went to USM Hattiesburg Ms.. A lot of us believe he is talking about his younger days in Biloxi, Ms He has done a lot for the local area. His first hit was" Come Monday" .Ya.ll need to hear "Cheese Burger in Paradise". There is a Margaritaville in Biloxi for family and mainly kids big place. Thank ya'll
The original is in Key West.
@@marlarogers9304 You are right He was in key west. a lot of people think he took from his influences, that would then be both places.so both regions have clam to a great artist...
