the steering wheel looks pretty soft to drive.
The TSI will have better sound and better response through the rev range (more useable rev range, better for driving sporty on secondary roads), but the TDI 184 will have noiceably more torque and better fuel economy. Depends on your taste about engines and driving style. Both will be have about the same pure acceleration (maybe a bit better the 1.8TSI, check claimed figures for both to verify), but the TDI will haver better recovery in higher gears thanks to torque. You can the remap both...

As far as I know its also used in the new Seat Leon and in the upcoming Skoda Octavia. Only the Golf does not have it as of yet.

Do you get much understeer from the front wheel drive model.
the only downside of the quarto is the Haladex coupling tends to drone at times

In case it has got 180 hp its an pretty boring car an if its no quattro, the traction is really bad.
There is nothing boring at that Engine, you talk crap. Right is that traction is bad without quattro.
To be fair its a normal daily "family" car 7 sec from 0 to 60 (100kmth) and it drives 17km/L i'm driving 3 hours every weekend cant remeber how long i drive but i only fill up 2 times, and thats when i'm driving 180 kmth so think if i'm only driving 110 its more fuel friendly:)
