The song is based off of the writing of John Flavel in his work called "The Father's Bargain" if you are interested in reading his short writing. It is not a theological statement but a way for us to dig deeper into the wonder of God's beautiful love for sinful men.

I love this song. I love that the Son screams the line: "No one can contain the power and depths of my abundant love!" To me that is Christ responding in force to the workings of Satan with jealous anger. I also love the line: "Bring in all their sins; lay it all on me." I have been dealing with my wife's adultery the last couple of months, and I've been struggling with the crushing weight of her betrayal. In meditating on this song the last couple of days, it's moved me to lay her sin at the feet of Jesus for her for the purpose of seeking her salvation and freeing myself from its burden. Great analysis, Pastor Rob!

Honestly Garret gets dangerously close to flat-out permissing homosexuality in the lyrics and in the interview he had- I can understand the need to not be so guarded against such individuals as Christians, not condemning them and yes helping when in need but still being firm on what the Bible clearly says is sin.
I'm suspicious of Garret's theology from here out. I honestly don't know how I feel about his views because like I said, he's dangerously close to condoning sin in some of the things he's said.

The thief acknowledging his sins and crimes while saying that Jesus had done nothing criminal. Never heard this band before, but I'm really enjoying that song. Reminds me a bit of some of Thrice's work. You should really do a reaction to anything Thrice really. Their lead singer, Dustin Kensrue, is heavily influenced by Christianity, philosophy and the works of C.S. Lewis. He was also the worship leader at Mars Hill Church when a lot of questionable things went down (that had nothing to do with him). I think it burnt him bad and it shows in the later Thrice material.

Spot on. When I listened to this the first time It is so powerful, first of all, but I also had this sense of man this is reflecting, a few generations sentiment and misunderstanding of the father’s heart. People have a really hard time with Wrath and love at the same time. They cannot understand how a loving God can be wrathful and they look at the Old Testament and go oh I’m glad Jesus is so different from God the father. All they can see is wrath and judgment. Which I believe is this humanistic paradigm seeping in. When we start with the idea that humans are good, not having an understanding of Justice and holiness, then God becomes simply a stern father ready to punish disobedience, void of love and mercy. That is a characature of who God really is and I love how you address that super well, how it’s the plan and will of the father to save.

The song made me cry because as of late God is revealing himself to me. Your channel is part of that revelation. I struggle with something I wonder if you can speak to. If God knew humans would ultimately screw up why create us in the first place? Thanks you guys, much love.

I think that Wolves at the Gate is one of the few metal bands that started as Christian and have maintained that aspect consistently. Many of the bands have decreased their output of God and Jesus focused material, but Wolves at the Gate just keeps going. I love it.
P.S. I loved watching you get into this song. It reminds me so much of my own father.

Wow ... gotta add this. Nice job too, gentleman -- I keep trusting the nudges of the Holy Spirit that keep bringing me back to your channel. I trust one day it will be revealed to me 'why?' -- I make it a point to never ask our Heavenly Father "why" -- I've never understood why I've felt so strongly about this aspect (other than a deep respect and search for a more trusting understanding for His plan for my life). Thanks to you both and thank you for your bravery in creating this channel. God bless you 🙏🏼

I was introduced to this channel today by random chance, I’m so glad I did. I truly appreciate how open minded you are to a genre so belittled, outcasted, and judged by the majority of Christians. As an atheist born into a very religious family I still to this day have to conceal a large portion of myself from my highly judgmental family. I could never dream of this happening in my family circle. Thank you for taking the time to not only attempt to understand your sons personality, perspective, and reasoning for his musical tastes, but to whole heartily accept his tastes, and move past simple-toleration to understand the art of metal. You deserve a father of the year award. I wish my father was as open minded as you.
P.S I would love you see you and your son react to
