Greetings from South Africa. I just wanted to say I still own my 2003 first generation Honda Jazz. It has 460000km on the clock. And still going strong 17 years later. I was 33 when I bought it. I don't pay attention to all the negative things people say about Honda's and touch screens and cheap plastics. In my book they are bomb proof. I have owned virtually every Honda model out there. Done over 3 million kilometres. They are the greatest cars out there for people who want to keep their cars for 10 years and longer.
Got 2008 fiesta st, still in perfect condition, not any single rust area or any problems with car at all, owning it for 7 years, never done any repair, except basic filter/oil and other consumables change. Parents got 10y old civic which they bought brand new from dealer, back arks totally destroyed by rust and keep "eating" the car, only 120t km done on it..
Former jazz owner (in late 20s) I bought it because it was cheap efficient spacious and very well made, I would buy one again especially for it's usability if you have a young family
This is actually a really charming little car full of clever features. It knows its target market and it gives them everything they could possibly want. Nothing wrong with that!
Rubbish, it's absolutely wrong, it doesn't give half of what previous generation Jazz gave us. How many Honda Jazz have you owned? If you did, could can you make a comparison? Because I own 2 and they are not what this car is. Previous generation Jazz, fully loaded, hiest spec 1.5 petrol 130bhp £17500, beautiful, nimble, spacious, thrill to drive, simple does more reliable, and with manual.
@@Dolph681 I've had all three previous generations and the second was the best for me. Been quite disappointed with the 3rd gen. I am, however picking up the 4th gen this week, impressed by the test drive. But I guess they are all going to appeal to us in different ways, which is good really.
The old jokes were hilarious, but on a serious note I’m 33 and have the older jazz si, with two kids the jazz is without a doubt the most practical small hatchback, the rear seats come in handy more often than you think, the boot space is a lot bigger on the older model and the best thing - we have had it 3 years and other than routine servicing it hasn’t cost a penny and nothing has broken, unlike other brands I have owned, my brand new 2015 at the time vw polo engine failed in the first year, I then bought a new ford fiesta which overheated, got fed up and bought a Honda where not a single thing has broken
I upgraded to Mazda 3 thought bigger car category . Then I went to ikea a realize how jazz is bigger car inside. Also rear seat much specious if you seat there. Better views. I think this car is competitive to Kona, Hrv and other crossovers rather than mazda2 or yaris.
My wife bought a previous generation Hybrid one from Japan. It's so impressive, I'm seriously considering selling my Corolla Hybrid and getting a new one. The new one is very ugly though, even if the face-lift from last year has fixed the looks a little.
@@Backpfeifengesicht45 Yes, I agree. It looks like a noddy car from the front. They should have left it the way the previous model was or just slightly modify the previous model face. This looks stupid...
A brilliant small car that feels like you are in a larger car. I had one as a courtesy car for a week and can honestly say I would find no hardship in downsizing to one of these. I did 230 miles of mixed driving and got 78mpg! Just brilliant, but I do wish an opening sunroof was available.
I've always loved Honda's little subcompact. Most of the generations of it were actually very athletic little things, and all of them could carry a crazy amount efficiently. I bought the previous Jazz version 5.5 years ago. Since then 0 problems. One of the disadvantages of this car is that it's not that pleasant for driving. Checked the new model. The first thing which is a serious obstacle for me is that there's no spare tyre. Instead, it's equipped with a tyre repair kit. Jazz is not the only car on the market with TRK instead of spare tyre, but still I dislike that. I don't think I would buy a car without a spare tyre. I didn't drive on the new Jazz, but I understood from different reviews that it is also not that quiet. "so the new Honda Jazz starts from just under 19,000 pounds which may sound like a lot" 3 years later the cheapest you can get now starts at 26,400 pounds. Thanks Rishi
I often borrow a 2005 Jazz for trips. It's not fun to drive and it's not properly maintained so it ocassionally has problems. However, it's the most car you can get for that kind of money. It can fit loads of stuff on the back. We use it for music gigs and we often carry 2 12' speakers, amp, mixer, guitar and violin, stands for everything, plus a weekend's worth of clothes for 4 people, and it can fit all that stuff easily. It's also comfortable for everyone inside. With any other brand, this amount of stuff would need a step-up into the 4.5 meters segment. As a driver, I'm not the happiest person in the world when climbing motorways with 4 people inside. You often need to stay on the slow lane and drop a gear or two. But it can do so much stuff to get you, your friends, their bikes, and 3 elephants from point A to point B.
Bought an 09 Fit Sport (aka Jazz) 12 years ago for my wife. It still looks new! No rust, consistently runs 39- 42 average mpg. Hiway it will hit upper 40's. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, if Honda hadn't stuck a CVT in it.
They didn’t. Matt should have known this has not got CVT. In fact no gears at all. The electric motor does the driving and has enough torque to not need one until about 50 mph then there is a direct engine drive for higher speeds. The apparent sequential gearbox noise is faked. Check out CAR mag review. They ask anyone who knows how it is done to get in touch. So many reviews of the new Honda hybrid system get this wrong, but not all. See OSC review too for correct analysis.
I have an 05 Jazz and I think CVT's are perfectly fine. The first gen Jazz' CVT is just a bit unrefined and everyone experiences juddering/shuddering issues.
There's a number of inaccuracies in this due to how Honda have a different kind of hybrid system. No Matt, the "moo" isn't too do with it having a CVT... It doesn't really have a transmission at all! The petrol engine is acting like a generator and it will run at its optimal revs. Electricity not used to power the car is stored and used to run the car engine of - but it's almost always running on its electric motor. Except when it's at Highway speed there is a clutch that engages the petrol motor directly to the drive wheels in a fixed gear ratio like a 6th gear. Also explains why the regen breaking is so smooth. Maybe you should review your video to address this?
Bought the EX model in June and am very pleased. Quiet, comfortable and well built. On mostly short trips (up to 10 miles), frequently get over 70 mpg, with 80+ on a couple of occasions. Some of the automatic driving features such as Lane Departure and Adaptive Cruise Control can be a bit intrusive if set to maximum, but work fine if set to middle or low or can be switched off if necessary. SatNav works well and is fast to reroute, and Rear Camera is a great asset, although visibility is excellent anyway. Front windscreen wipers are positioned low down and when parked are below the bottom of the windscreen and not visible from the driving seat.
The honda jazz/fit is honestly a great car. As a honda salesman I know how reliable they are. The new gen is packed with a lot of new features and hybrid wasn't offered before. It's a shame we're not getting it in the USA. Also you got the transmission completely wrong
Bought a 2007 Honda Fit (US Jazz) with 25,000 miles for $12k. Now 100,000 miles later and we had only paid for oil and a battery before just now doing scheduled maintenance. I can easily fit my mountain bike in the back. We can easily park in small spaces. 35 mpg. I love this car.
I had one of these new Jazz's for the day recently with 5 miles on the clock when my 1.5T Civic was having a service. Its got a better entrainment system than the current civic and worked really well with apple car play and it drove so smooth and easy to drive. I would love some of the tech it has in my civic. Great little car.
Unlike Mazda and Toyota who have important European design centres they don't care about European customers. Nobody buys them in the Netherlands. Which is a shame really. Marketing and dealerships are also almost non existant. In think they are gone here just like Daihatsu in a couple of years.
I honestly couldn't care what the car looks on the outside. I'm inside most of the time.... I have the 2007 jazz and it's never faulted me in 8 years. Reliable as ever. Fuel efficient and I've moved homes twice using it's flexible seats. Only complaint is the engine needs more grunt and i have the 1.5L
Had cars that rusted in front of my eyes, fords and old alfa's. Had problem cars Range rovers etc. Had many other cars in between. Had my 2010 Jazz for 7 years and 80K miles, gone through two or three sets of tyres and no other cost, Never let me down, no failures, no rust. It's great to go somewhere and not think how far will we get before calling the recovery service. Maybe older means wiser? Certainly no stress in owning and running a Honda.
My grandpa used to own a jazz until he sold it 2 months ago. The car was buletproof. Much better interior and exterior than the c3 he replaced it with.
Going to be ordering my SIXTH Jazz very soon. Love 'em! So roomy and comfortable. Only one minor gripe - the 'stop start' feature in my present one only seems to work when it feels like it but I can live with that. The only reason I’m going to have no.6 is because being disabled, I have Motability cars and the lease on them is 3 yrs. so they’re changed at that time.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Matt said it has a CVT gearbox, however unlike a Toyota Prius or Hyundai Ioniq there is no physical transmission or gearbox. Instead, the missing transmission is replicated the by the engine and electric motors. It's very clever the way Honda achieve this, in return it gives very good acceleration (0 to 60 showed that) and very good fuel economy.
It's not always about horsepower. Sometimes people look for a practical, small, reliable car and explicitly not for a hot hatch. And that's what you get. Yes, it's neither fancy nor that fast, but it's very spacious, apparently easy and comfortable to drive and well-build. And reasonably fast at the same time (0-60 in 9.4 seconds is fine). It's great because it's so versatile: You can use it in the city or for a full family vacation or for beginners. It may cost more than average in its class, but it's actually worth it in the long-term. Eyerybody else can buy an Abarth 500 or Fiesta ST. And Dolph no, I am not a Honda dealer. I actually just like the car. Weird, huh.
It's not supposed to sporty though. If you want sporty with "aggressive" styling that's what the Civic is for. :) Sure the older Jazz was a little bit more sporty, but if you sporty then Renault Clio or Ford Fiesta are far more sporty! Honda is going for a different market, who wants a comfortable, practical car.
I had a 2006 Jazz with the Magic Seats. The rear seats were split 60/40, when laid down, the headrests on the outer positions could fit under the front seats. The backs of the seats were about 25mm (1 inch) above the level of the boot floor. When the previously lowered seats were raised, the squab came up & the tubular metal legs folded out of the way automatically. I could carry my mother's rollator walker fully assembled (unfolded) in the space provided by raising the wider of the two seat portions. Brilliant system, but it meant there weren't as many storage bins available compared to other similar vehicles.
@andreisabogal6953 From my 2012 model, it was about 35mpg. After 1 year driving a 2022 Hybrid, it's rarely less than 60mpg. In the warmer weather, with no lighting or heat required, it's regularly been 75+mpg.
On my 2nd Jazz and both are one of my favourite cars. Pleasure to drive and extremely well designed inside; an extremely practical and trouble-free car. Unfortunately I'm looking for a straight electric but I'd be more than willing to pay my local Honda Jazz garage to take mine into its workshop and fit the necessary batteries and electric kit for a full conversion. Strangely they're not advertising this capability.
Great stuff as always Mat, well done! Although I can't believe you forgot the 'Honda Jazz squeeze-a-mountain-bike-in-the-back' test!! Obligatory when testing any new Jazz models.
besides older people, families with kids, especially young kids, the Jazz is without doubt the perfect car. Extremely reliable (Made in Japan, unlike others *Polo*), very efficient and one of the safest cars on the road with safety features not found on most other cars of this size. Besides when it comes to practicality the Jazz is by far the best in class, the magic seat system is very useful!
The crosstour has higher ground clearance. That is useful feature. I believe it also has a slightly more rugged suspension. So, yea, its differences are not just cosmetic.
A small car like the Honda Jazz hybrid ,no alternator ,no start motor,no belt cvt but Ecvt no gearbox,no turbo and low noise in the cabin and low consume petrol 3.4/4.8 l 100 km.this Honda deserve a place in the best small car, with the record inner space love it with the save systems and a wopping record 10 airbags and colision warning in the back in the dark when leaving the park place in the dark. (driving my upgraded 122 hp crosstar 1-2024)
I am getting 65 to 70 mpg ..which is great..and with one tank of fuel which is 40 litters I am getting between 570 miles to 630 miles ..depends on the weather conditions..now in summer I got 630 miles per tank..which is really impressive...great to drive 100% recommended

Honda always delivers unique and revolutionary technology 👍💪
Salesman and reliable? :)
The Fit/Jazz has come in a hybrid version for several generations now since the GE/2nd gen.
The Jazz is a bread & butter model for Honda, hence the heavy investment in its R&D for every new model they produce. Superb supermini if you ask me!

Great little car.
you gotta love honda! so so amazing effort and work went into this car

The Jazz is a car that you buy with the head not the heart.
I love these car or just Japanese cars in general because they look so different!
Not the most beautiful, but a quirky one and I love it
I'm 24 and I am buying this car 🚗
Had cars that rusted in front of my eyes, fords and old alfa's. Had problem cars Range rovers etc. Had many other cars in between. Had my 2010 Jazz for 7 years and 80K miles, gone through two or three sets of tyres and no other cost, Never let me down, no failures, no rust. It's great to go somewhere and not think how far will we get before calling the recovery service. Maybe older means wiser? Certainly no stress in owning and running a Honda.
You know you watch too much carwow when you check the knee and head room every time you get into the back of a car.
So bummed they stopped producing these for the US. I love my little Fit / Jazz.
My grandpa used to own a jazz until he sold it 2 months ago. The car was buletproof. Much better interior and exterior than the c3 he replaced it with.
I like new Jazz looks futuristic outside, interior just perfect a unique car.
It’s annoying that it’s got such a stigma attached. It’s a great little car in so many ways.
so futuristic that looks like an old opel
Going to be ordering my SIXTH Jazz very soon. Love 'em! So roomy and comfortable. Only one minor gripe - the 'stop start' feature in my present one only seems to work when it feels like it but I can live with that. The only reason I’m going to have no.6 is because being disabled, I have Motability cars and the lease on them is 3 yrs. so they’re changed at that time.
ok
Please call us mature people ‘seniors’ and not old please x I am a Honda Jazz driver.

Yah, seriously. Liking this a lot.
The car actually looks very cute. Much better looking headlamps than before in my opinion.
Me too
Correct me if I'm wrong but Matt said it has a CVT gearbox, however unlike a Toyota Prius or Hyundai Ioniq there is no physical transmission or gearbox. Instead, the missing transmission is replicated the by the engine and electric motors.
It's very clever the way Honda achieve this, in return it gives very good acceleration (0 to 60 showed that) and very good fuel economy.
My dogs love the magic seats of the wife's Jazz and it's incredible the amount of stuff you can fit in one. 😁

They made the best engines but crappy transmission, especially the automatic in V6 or bigger engines.
I'm actually really impressed by that one. If somebody is looking for a reasonable car, buy it.
"reasonable" 19000 $ 109 hp for 1.5 plus battery.... You sure reasonable is the right word??
You must be Honda dealer.
Weird, huh.
errant3 sooo, you want to talk about performance on a practical, safe, fuel-sipping econobox?
@@errant3 You forgot 61mpg
The previous gen actually had a bit of style and looked like a slightly aggressive hatchback. This just looks so boring
The flat dashboard looks boring, too, integrated technology saves the match!
This is the nod of the upcoming honda e..
And honda paid tribute to the first gen jazz.
I think Matt crashed the car head on before the review 😂😂

What is your fuel economy in city?
@andreisabogal6953 From my 2012 model, it was about 35mpg. After 1 year driving a 2022 Hybrid, it's rarely less than 60mpg. In the warmer weather, with no lighting or heat required, it's regularly been 75+mpg.

Fantastic car, fantastic review Mat, thanks for keeping us informed and entertained in the lockdown. Always love a Honda.
To this day I’m yet to have an issue with my 2008 Jazz. Such a great little car.

Love the review Matt but honestly the second gen Jazz was the best looking imo. It was also a blast to drive with Honda's amazing manual gearbox.
The crosstour has higher ground clearance. That is useful feature. I believe it also has a slightly more rugged suspension. So, yea, its differences are not just cosmetic.
Funny thing. In north and south america this is also bought by older people, but it is actually more common with small families.

Let the carbuyer do their own thing, no need to put them down to get some shitty likes.
I don't want them to upload everyday! I prefer them uploading videos 4 days a week, but then they decided to upload on a Thursday without even telling us they were going to be uploading on Thursdays. So I've had to put up with watching Carwow 5 days a week. And now they decided to upload a video on a Monday about the Skoda Octavia and they didn't even tell us people on Instagram that their video of the Octavia was uploaded which is just lazy. And then today they upload another car review in a row! Do they even have a proper timetable anymore? I don't understand their timetable anymore. A UA-camr must have a proper timetable and stick to it. If they want to upload on a different day, they should be telling us, not randomly uploading on days they never usually upload. I think quality is better than quantity so why don't they go back to uploading 4 days a week and leave me in peace!
