The scariest things to pray for are humility and patience. I don't even pray for humility and patience anymore! God has me on a regular schedule. HE enrolls me in class a few times a year. 😭🤣 Even if I have been humble. He's like: "You need a little more"! 😂😭 I tell him: "But Lord, I got an -A last time!" And he goes: "But you need a review! How about some extra credit?!" 😂😭

Humans constantly need to be reminded to be humble. We get way out of pocket too often
I am not better or less than anyone else. But, I am and always will be a child of God and my father loves me.
Being humble is where it's at! And if you ever start losing that humility, life will remind you again if you're open to it. Good stuff.

Realize that you are nothing, waking up from the illusion of self is good. But also realize that within you is everything and nothing is lacking, once you realize this, you will become wealthy.
Why should nothing care if it's wealthy or not? 😅It already contains in itself both sides.

Sometimes I just go with "Kill your ego", and see if that might sink in a little. It is kinda what I myself started with...

Tim, this is SO TRUE! Every time I start feeling myself I get clobbered with reality. I love it though. It's just the universe telling me it loves me and wants me to keep growing.
I'm coming up on 65 y/o and it still happens to me, it seems, like you, I get a little full of myself and then bam! Yes, getting humbled sucks but in the end it actually feels good to get right and grateful with the universe.
Exactly!! We are tested at times. Some will get it, others won't. We have to be humble and grateful for all we have been blessed with. I personally believe it's not anxiety, it's people's energy that i can't handle in small spaces.

Humility may be like patience.
When I was a VERY young child, a church elder lady taught me a life lesson. I said I needed to pray for patience. She said, "Oh no! Never pray for patience because the only way our HIGHER POWER can teach us is by throwing a situation at us where we have to learn... re-learn that life lesson." Her advice was to admit you may be "feeling yourself" but pray a prayer of gratitude for all the learning we already have and to give us strength in that learning and gratitude for our ability to learn more.
I may have been six or seven years old... and I remember Mrs. Potts words like it was yesterday. It was actually over 50 years ago.

Hello Timothy, since I darted my sobriety Journey I became obsessed with listening to recover story, I’m fascinated by how each tells their story, and happy to be on the other side of things.
I’m so glad you made this video, like you, I sometimes feel so good about my self, that I become a bit arrogant, it just comes naturally.
Here is my story of humility, at least the latest;
In general I’m passionate when I give my opinion, so I get bit loud. In recent conversation while having dinner either my family? I answer back with the tone of arrogance, to which my sister lovingly suggested I tone down.
(When say lovingly, I meant it) I remember replying something along this lines “if you know I’m
So arrogant you should have been used to by now”
We left it that.
Following weekend I went to an Ayahuasca retreat and shit my pants 🫣, and there my friend I got my humility lesson.

Best advice I ever got wasn’t even really said, it was shown. Met a man who was the epitome of everything good, balanced out by everything bad. He wasn’t religious and had done some bad things but the reason we met was he was using all of the bad things he had learned to do good things. Stopped fights, helped rebuild fences and houses, made a communal farm before leaving and taught everyone how to do everything he was doing. A few of us followed him to either get out of a bad life or to try to learn more and a couple of us were just drawn to how he was
Anyway, back to the religion and humility part, he taught us how he thought the world worked in quite simple terms I’ll try to get as close to how he said it: “It’s like what some would call karma, but people like to believe karma is an instant in and out, good to good bad to bad. I see it now as more of a bank account, or stocks. If you put gum in someone’s hair in 2nd grade and everything goes good for you for 30 years some people use that as an argument that karma doesn’t exist. I see it as, karma saw what you did in the 2nd grade with the gum and is just gathering interest, so that when it DOES hit you, every good thing gets stripped away by that interest. It also goes in reverse. If you aren’t immediately rewarded for doing a good thing, it’s just waiting for the time that it might give you that lottery win or everything falls into place. That’s why I’m thankful that right after making a less than friendly jab I might get a splinter or smash my thumb. Just reminding me karma is still watching”
My understanding of the word pride is to "lift yourself up above another person". I'm not better than another person, and just as important for me to realize is that other people are NOT better than me. Together, we are ALL living on a spirit borrowed from our Creator. And together we will ALL die one day. Then we give an account of ourselves to the One who loaned us a temporary spirit. Good vid. Thanks.

I love this scenery. Isn’t the truth the truth? Especially when it’s unsolicited advice?
My main motivation is to be better than previous versions of myself. I'm very competitive in that respect, but not so much in terms of direct comparisons with other people.
Outside of formal competition (sports, etc.), most strong people are doing their own thing anyway. So it's probably not going to be valid to compare your performance directly with others', because they aren't trying to do the same thing.
I absolutely agree that no one is inherently better than anyone else. But when people agree to enter formal competition and be measured by specific metrics, that's all that matters at that moment. If you beat me by a tenth of a second in the marathon, it makes no difference if I have more money, can play the saxophone better, etc. You won the race and I lost, simple as that.
So I'd say, feel free to be as full of yourself as you want in terms of personal accomplishments. Just keep it all in context, and understand what/how is really being measured. Being the best possible version of yourself in any area doesn't make you any better/worse than anyone else outside of that specific metric. And again, it's just a metric, not a value judgment about you or anyone else.
Where the problems creep in is when people start projecting arbitrary performance metrics into overall value judgements about people. That dog don't hunt.

Humility vs Shame. The curse of comparison. I'm better than or worse than. I gotta' made, I'm behind the normal curve. I have the best..., I have it the worse. Always a comparison. I spend most of my time comparing myself to people I perceive have it better, made better choice and especially have more money, savings and a ridiculously fat retirement. This video made me think or allowed me to open more. Thank-you Tim.

Reality has a way of slapping you down, it's a feature of reality, not a bug.
If prayer works for you then fair enough. We should all be reminded of humility in some shape or form. Check yourself before you wreck yourself!

The one thing about the extreme simple life that some people lead is all they do is go around just taking in their surroundings. That is good, I do that a lot myself but at the end of the day I am not happy unless I am putting my brains and hands into doing something. I love that feeling you get when you produce something. Like growing and maintaining a small garden. It so satisfying when you can harvest and eat the food you grew and also sharing the extra bounty with others. This can pertain to whatever endeavor you decide to take on. You feel like you are being a productive member of society instead of just being passive and just taking in everything that other people produce. I know there are different levels of simple life, I am just talking about the people who decide to just totally check out.
