This Was Amazing! I am mechanically inclined and could not have figured this out! Thank you So Much! We have had our LG for about 8 trouble free years! We bought the counter depth fridge and recessed it into the wall with FRP and ventilation. LG products are Fantastic! Very good use of space. We also plumbed the ice maker to our R/O filter. We just cleaned the coils last week. This is the Bet fridge we have ever used.
Well, you definitely earned my subscription! I've had my LG fridge for probably 5 years now and I've had the upper ice maker get stuck a handful of times now. I've always been able to fix it by removing it and letting it thaw out or I've even used the hair dryer trick a couple times. Every time in the past this has worked in conjunction with the reset button and I had the ice maker up and running in no time. But this latest time it was different. I was almost convinced the motor was shot! Then I saw this video with the gear box. So, I took it out much like you did and opened up the gear box. Nothing was obvious at first and it didn't look like anything was wrong with the gears and the spring appeared to be functioning properly. But to be honest, there is a lot jammed in that little gear box so it is really hard to see. But I did notice one thing when I removed the big gear that actually turns the ice tray... as soon as I removed it the little lever that attaches to one end of the spring moved a little to the fully "closed" position. I believe this little lever controls the whole operation of dumping the tray. So, I checked the rest of the gears to make sure they were seated properly and then made sure the spring, levers, gears would work properly together and all looked good. I put it back together and plugged it in and boom it was working again!! Thanks a lot for your assistance with this one! It saved me a couple hundred bucks for now!
Appreciate the Sub! Happy to help and hope it fixes the issue for good! These LG’s are pretty temperamental, mine continues to need me getting in the gear box and adjusting every few months.
Thanks for your videos :) Our problem is that the ice tray will turn and eject the ice, BUT only if we push the reset button. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
That’s exactly what mine was doing until it finally started to stop working all together. I would suggest following my instructions on the video and seeing if there is anything internally that looks off. If needed open up the gear box and see if the reset button or gears are tripped up in any way. After I did that with mine, I have not had any issues. Hope this helps! That’s for watching and remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends! 👊
I have a newer LG fridge and opened the gear box and everything looked fine. I still took the gears out and put them back but it’s still doing the same thing. It will go up for a half a second and then down for a half second and then stop. It really seemed like something was binding up. Damn thing is two years old, I guess I’m ordering a new ice maker. They’re only $100 but I was hoping this was the issue.
@@johnembach5208 thanks for the feedback. Always good to hear what others are dealing with. I have had that issue as well but after opening up the gear box and pulling them all out and putting them back together it usually fixes the issue. The only other thing I can think of is the motor??? Sorry the video couldn’t help! Good luck. And thanks for watching. And remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends 👊
I am a little curious! But did the ice maker make ANY noise when pressing the test button? Also did the tray fill up with water? Kinda have the same issue but trying to rule out if its an electrical...I don't think it is electrical as the ice auger can be herd moving!
Yes, ice maker filled up with water but never dumped. Had to get into the gear box and fix the gears as they were out of alignment. Good luck and remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends 👊
I think my ice maker does have the same issue as @rash219.. it rotates and makes noise as if it got stuck.. Then I have to press any one of the ice slots pointing up and then it rotates.. I did the testing too and it made the same noise.. Does it seem that there is an issue in the gear box?
G'day mate. Any chance you know where to source the drive gear from the ice bucket itself? Mine is split into 4 pieces. The mechanism in the door with the metal fitting spins, but nothing in the ice box itself moves. One gear is shattered, and the replacement for the whole thing is $150+.
Matt, I have found free refrigerators before and used replacement parts that work great off those. Try your local Facebook market or Craig’s listing. Hope this helps! Good luck! And remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends 👊
Hello, I have this same model, LG. The ice maker above and below does not make ice. If the problem is that water does not reach them, how do I solve it? Thank you.
Have you checked your water line to the ice maker, does it seem to be working? If not look to problem solve where it’s not getting water could be a clog in the line. Are you getting water in the front of the fridge?
My door icemaker makes a "ping" sound when I press the reset button but that's it. No sound of it trying to rotate. I can feel ice in the ice mold but pressing the rest button, turning the switch off and on and unplugging/replugging the fridge does not make it move or make any sounds like it's trying to move. Is there any hope of finding something internally to fix or should I just replace the whole ice maker assembly? (Thanks for your videos!!!)
Thanks for the first and this second video! Mine works great when the reset button is pushed, so I think my gears are all good. But it wont dump or start or try to dump unless I press the reset button, after a bunch of tries and several days now. Any ideas for how to fix that ?
@@ralphdesmond you can try and thaw the area where the reset button is as it can sometimes freeze up! I’ve used a blower on it. Just hold it back 6-8 inches and let it run for 5-10 min this has done the trick for me when it’s frozen up. Good luck and remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends 👊
I believe this happens when the motor freezes up and shuts down for a time. The button if not frozen can act as another function in “resetting” the dump cycling. You may need to get in there as I have and make sure all the gars are in place as well. Hope this helps. And remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends. 👊
@@gummby32 Same here. I'd like to avoid the full tear down and messing with the gears if that might not be the issue. Mine works perfectly when I press the reset button, but otherwise will not dump. Did you find a solution for yours ? thanks

Yes, mine sounded like there was something blocking it from rotating. Very well could be your gears trying to rotate, but not able to.
