    Thank you so so so so so much for this video.
    It literally saved me hundreds of dollars allowing me to do this myself, rather than paying the extraordinary prices the LG support wanted to check and potentially replace my ice maker.

    Outstanding. 60 year old housewife followed his clear instructions. Although I know to do so -- the only major omission was to first instruct folks to disconnect power to the machine itself (either by unplugging it or by turning off the breaker that supplies power to it. Two other notes from our experience: On the OEM replacement ice maker we purchased, there was no need to duct tape the smaller wiring assembly in place as they added four locking hook/tabs so that it could be secured in place with the disconnect tab facing up. Using a flat-head screwdriver, it was a simple matter to carefully pull out one tab and then gently remove the smaller wiring assembly.
    Note also that on our replacement, the wiring assembly for the primary (larger) wiring harness was positioned so that the wires were twisted and came up in such a manner that they initially interfered with the ability to slide the new unit into the loosened locking washer and top-screw. I did not need to disconnect the larger harness -- and used a pair of needle nosed pliers to gently snuggle them over to the left (so that I could use my free hand to pull them slightly downward -- and it was then a simple matter to slip the unit up under the washer -- slide the bottom of the entire assembly into the door and tighten the washer and replace the remaining three screws to secure the machine.
    Finally, in our case, we tend to have a great deal of white calcium deposits that can clog our sink faucet. Over the years that we've owned the machine, we have noticed that the water dispenses much more slowly -- and when I removed our broken ice maker -- the water input spout was heavily encrusted with hard, white calcium deposits (looked sort of like white fur). I thinned out some Q-tips and soaked them in plain, household vinegar and used vinegar and tweezers to gently clean the hard deposits away so that the spout was smooth and not occluded. There were similar deposits around the bottom half of the chute that dispenses ice -- and also on the water spout that dispenses water from outside the door -- and this was a good opportunity to access and clean all of those parts - -as well as the back of the door that is typically not accessible to clean when the machine and auger assembly are in place.
    So long as you have removed the machine and auger assembly, it's just a good time to insure that the entire ice maker area (including gaskets around the doors and all vents and other parts (like the ice maker's removable container)) were thoroughly inspected, cleaned and clear of dirt or debris before re-installing the new unit and re-supplying power to the machine. Sometimes dirt like that can affect the smell and taste of ice and it's therefore not a waste of time to clean before reinstalling.

    I used this video to replace my ice maker today! After months of having the water leak through the area between the tray and the curved cover at the front, resulting in basically an iceberg in the door, I purchased an OEM replacement part. I am so grateful for the clear instructions and tips. It works like a charm now and I finally have ice again, without the iceberg inside the unit. I'm so happy again.

      I have the same iceberg affect. Do you have any idea why the leak? I can see that the tray has slightly separated from the cover. I’m going to try some gorilla glue to get back together. Thanks so much.

    Thanks so much! Our local appliance shop wanted $89 to show up at our house plus a $40 “diagnosis fee” that would be applied to the labor charges. And then the cost of the part - their price was $177 when I could order it from an LG authorized supplier for under $150. Since we had a broken piece of plastic in our ice bin at the same time the ice maker stopped working, it didn’t take an expert to diagnose the problem. Your video gave me the confidence to try to replace the ice maker myself. It worked! Thanks for helping us save ~$150. Thankful you shared your expertise with us and took the time to make this video.

    You're a WIZARD!! This is *exactly* what I needed - except that MY replacement part is the whole thing minus the ice bin! So it's going to be even easier because I don't need to take off and reconnect the icemaker part! This video was perfect in every way (except that you cut out the cursing - we know. We know.). Thank you so much for making this video!!

    Excellent video. I easily removed the assembly as directed. Nowhere on the assembly was there a part number so I called LG with my refrigerator’s model number and ordered a replacement ice maker. With the assembly removed we could no longer get water from the door. So I put the old assembly back in. Upon plugging the harness back in, the ice maker reset itself. It’s been working properly ever since. So before ordering a new part and removing the entire assembly, you might just try unplugging the harness and plugging it back in. It might just fix the problem.

    Very helpful, almost perfect. One minor step that may help: just after "tuck the harness in behind" at 3:35 and just before aligning the screws there should be "Align the tab on the base with the square hole, and hook it." This helps ensure that the screw holes will be tightly aligned. It is also helpful to be sure that the wires to the large harness will be on top, toward the back of the unit so they have enough relief to plug into the base connector.

    Thank you for your video. Showing where the smaller connector goes in place was a major help. The other main point that was a help was the top retaining screw being in place when the system is reinstalled... one big push up and in and we are back in business after months without ice. Thank you so much.

    Great video. I followed this to replace my icemaker. This similar model has two configurations and so I had to remove ice maker to see how many wires in the wire harness. 3 or 6. I will say getting the wire harnesses apart and then on the new unit getting the wires and harness taped down and out of the way was the hardest part. I had a bit of trouble with how the harness fits behind the icemaker, but got it I do wish I understood why my bin fits tighter now and is hard to get in and out. There's not much variability in the screw positions so that's a mystery. Thank you for you helpful video!

    Wonderful video - especially around the top screw with the plastic washer. My replacement ice maker was identical with (2) changes - the green grounding wire needing to be grounded to the auger motor and a temperature probe at the top with a blue wire. Simple enough - ice make installed in about 20 minutes taking my time. The only other step that is missed is to ensure you hit the "reset" button after installation - this triggers the water to fill the tray.

      I can answer this one, I just replaced our ice maker by following the steps in the video. No need to turn the water off. I did cut power to the unit by turning off the appropriate breaker at our circuit breaker box - easier for us than pulling out the refrigerator. Always a good idea to have power off when tinkering with electrical connections.

      @partselect  Рік тому

      Well done on swapping out your ice maker. In trying to answer your question we have to ask you a few questions. What was the reason you needed to change your ice maker? Does your ice maker call for water and does it take in any water. Does your model have an arm that comes down and touches the ice to shut off the ice maker when the bin is full, sometimes they stick and the ice maker thinks the bin is full.

    We have LG LRMDC2306S. During first month we’ve had 4 service visits for craft ice maker not working. Each service call reveals the water feed line to the ice maker is frozen solid although the freezer temp is set at +4F. We added two thermometers into the freezer that log temp and they both show 4F so temp sensor is good. Does the craft ice maker line have a heater/defrost? Latest tech wants to switch out water feed line but by this point we have zero confidence LG know how to build a fridge.

    I appreciate this video on how to buy I need someone that can tell me what's wrong with my LG Slim Space Plus ice maker. It works for a while then stops filling. Then, if I shut if off for a couple of hours, turn it on and recycle it, it starts working again for a couple of hours, etc., etc., etc., I have searched high and low for answers. I called LG and they walked me thru some process intended to throw a code to diagnose buy that didn't work. I can't find anyone having this same problem of working intermittently, that I'm having. Any ideas on this?

    • @partselect
      @partselect  Рік тому

      Intermittent problems such as you are experiencing are very difficult to pin down. It maybe an electrical issue or it could be mechanical. It sounds like after being plugged in for awhile it might be that the motor in the ice maker is getting hot and shutting down or the coil in the water valve is giving issue. When it stops working what stage of operation is the ice maker in? About to fill?, frozen cubes waiting to be ejected? Is it in same position each time it fails? Check to see if the wiring harness is plugged together tightly . Inspect the separated harness plugs for any signs of arcing when you look at the pin connectors inside the harness blocks which might indicate a loose connection.
