Rubber Tree Plant Care in 2 Steps

- Rubber tree plant care starts with giving this plant the right amount of lighting. Find a window in your household that receives a decent amount of indirect light each day. The rubber plant likes more lighting than a lot of people are aware of. This plant is sold as a low light beginner plant but I disagree with that. The rubber plants Mike’s 5 to 7 hours of indirect light a day and can even with stand maybe an hour or two of direct lighting.
Be careful not to overwater your rubber tree because these plants are pretty susceptible to root rot inside your soil. You need to become a master of figuring out when your rubber tree needs water. Start by feeling the soil by putting your finger about an inch into the soil. If the soil feels moist chances are he don’t need to water your rubber tree.

Put y’all’s rubber plants outside! Mine looked like this for years. Stunted growth, slow to grow but still healthy. Had good lighting and watering schedule inside. But didn’t put on much growth and looked like the one in this video. I placed them on my uncovered deck last year in a corner where they still receive sun but it’s on the North side of my house and now all 6 (3 to a pot) are all now taller than me. I’m 5’8”. I notched them late spring and they are branching and thriving. These are tropical plants. They need more light and real fresh air to thrive sufficiently, especially if you want them to grow. I bought my friend one at the same time as mine years ago and hers is less than half the size of mine. She put hers out this year under her covered porch and they are doing great but will need more time to catch up. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your plants especially if growth is what you want. I do bring them in for winter. I live in GA for reference. Hot as hell and humid. If you do this do be mindful they will acclimate and one or two leaves may burn, especially Tineke or other variegated varieties, in the beginning but nothing drastic. Since being outside I’ve lost a lot less leaves than when they were indoors.
Good info thnx ma'am
Of course they're gonna to better outside. They're tropical. This rubber tree if planted in ground they will grow just as a regular tree. They're pretty tall as a matter of fact.
@@pineappledoesbelongonpizza9975 Yes, I know. I’m from the Caribbean so I know that they are tropical plants. This was for the folks who have them as indoor plants in pots in non tropical climates. All plants do better outside in ground or in a controlled environment like a botanical garden where they are massive, like they would be in their natural habitat. And I’m so with you…Pineapples do belong on pizza 🤤😊
@@EilandMeisje85 yup no. I totally agree with you as I have 1 big one and 3 small ones and very little grow. While it's good as it doesn't get out of control. But I also want to see them grow. I'm in my plant era. I also have figs and those are growing like crazy. I use a growing light and focus mainly on the rubber plant but I'm not sure it's doing any good. I haven't seen it grow. But it has lost a few leaves 😮💨. They are difficult I think.
What about if all the lower leaves fall off ?
Very beautiful ❤️
Love that rug!! Beautiful collection
I am so stressed with my rubber plant. Got it in September and it was glorious a few weeks ago it started shedding leaves and won’t stop. I tried moving it away from the window, I tried watering less, I tried watering more, I checked for root rot and there wasn’t any. All the leaves are droopy and seem softer than usual. At this point I find it easier looking after my drama queen calathea than the rubber plant 😢
You can do it!
I am facing the same problem 😢
Bring it outside. That’s what i did
Droopy leaves - need watering. Yellow/brown leaves - too much water
@@anndean4856Thanks 👀☕🫂
Rubber trees are not beginner plants lol
Rubber plant must be kept in 4- 5 hr of ☀️ light 🥱🤦♂️😒🙏
I love your sun room. ❤
wow amazing very beautiful healthy plants 👌👌👍😇
Hey....how do you keep the gnats away?
How often should I water?
My brother has a rubber plant and his is thriving! Mine has been on the struggle bus since I got it. We live about 5 minutes from each other and keep them in the same facing windows. I have a ton of other plants. He has that and 2 cacti that sit next to his. Am I over watering or does the rubber tree just don’t like me.
Also I killed a SEVERLY rootbound one I was trying to “rescue” from my late uncles house a few yrs ago so I don’t have great track record😅
why are my.rubber plant leaves turning upwards sharply. though it's getting indirect sunlight throughout the day. pls advise, thank you.
Enormous and sincere thanks for the information......
I legit put mines outside (to die) at the beginning of summer. It had 3 or 4 tiny leaves at the top and bare stalks. It been It the Texas heat all summer, afternoon sun... Now she's doing well, growing new bigger leaves
So wait.. if theyre not stuck in the pot they wont rot?
No.. the rot because of a lack of oxygen and an anaerobic environment
I love your Queen palm inside! I have been wondering if I could bring mine indoors ❤
Im the queenof forgetting to water so 😅 mine is quit happy with my forgetfulness
Yes, yes I’ve had the same experience and it worked out for the best
Do they act like fiddle leaf figs? Do they grow quickly or super slow?
They grow fast if in direct light in southern California zone 10b they can take direct sun but must water often if you keep it in North light it will not grow
My plant is bending.
My rubber tree plant has a dark part on one third of the leaf, please tell me if its from direct bright light?
Tried moving it away from the window and give it some shades ( indirect light) .
No plant is a house plant. All low light plants
Psssshhhhh mine is the single most fickle little shit i own. 🤣 i literally have a $5 fiddle leaf ficus rescue doing 100 times better than the damned rubber tree my husband bought me. She stresses me the hell out.
Thank you for sharing
This is so nice
