- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Here is another houseplant ‘how to’ video for all of you plant lovers and new plant moms and plant dads out there. In this video we are going to be repotting my Ficus Elastica Tineke and Burgundy. They are also known as the Rubber Tree or Rubber Plant.
Ficus Elastica are one of my favourite types of houseplants. They have some of the most beautiful foliage and they are pretty easy to care for even for beginners who has a lot of bright light in their homes.
I’ll also show you guys how to successfully propagate your Rubber Plant from cuttings. Propagation is a great and cost-effective way to make a new plant to give to your friends or family.
I hope you enjoy this video.

I have a rubber tree, that I kept from my mom’s funeral (2007) & this year I decide to take cuttings from it & propagate it. I have 4 rooted & in pots. Looking forward to them growing to the size of the mother plant. They are very pretty houseplants & live a long life.
Perfect to watch on my acid comedown. Thanks, man.
How was the journey
Best comment ever! Hope it was a positive trip!
Damn, I noticed that the only viewers of plant-themed videos are either crazy plant people or people on drugs
Lol, whoever you are…I love you,
Hey, whatever works. 😜
This is one of the best videos I've seen about repotting and propagating RT plant!
"Tah Dah!!" 😊 That's me when I come home with a new plant 😅 Love it!
Haha that’s riiight. 😆 I’m itching for more ta-dahs 😆

Please explain the soil requirements thanks
I didn’t realize how beautiful that plant is. We have that tree here in my home and has been a tree since I was born. Now its drying and dying.. :( People are cutting it without our permission and making a profit out of it. Now I’m determined to save our tree... its been in our home for like 3 generations thats why its really big.. and its rare in our place no wonder people come to our home just to cut its branches.. I used to play with its leaves and write on it when I was a child... I didn’t really see how beautiful it is until it is slightly dying... but I know there is still hope. Thank you for this video I am very motivated.
🥺
And see the link that leaves also become tea, you can search on google.
I think I know where you're from. The plants in front of our house have been stolen, leaving them somehow bald and pots broken. People are selfish.
if it's tree generations old, it's probably dying due to old age. if you want to save it, you should probably take cuttings like everyone else, and propagate it. after all, those are genetically identical to the original tree so that is "saving it"
@@mimosveta truuuuee! i've had trials and errors but happily I was able to grow 1 plant from the tree. Ill do more when my break comes. Thank you! ~
Just purchased a Burgundy tonight for my birthday and my neurotic brain told me I wouldn't be able to keep it alive. This video makes it looks super easy, though. 🥰 I think I'll be okay now.
Thank you for sharing this! My old rubber tree got stressed and dropped a lot of its lower leaves and I've been wanting to propagate some of it just in case and to create new plant babies from my original guy. You make this look so easy, thank you!
My rubber plant grew x2 that size in one season but I do have a slight advantage. I live in Florida 😁
Such a pleasure to watch this video! Your energy is a blessing! The love for these plants is just flowing through your face and words! I'll now go and share it with my baby ficus that I'm about to repot😊😊 Thank you so much!!!❤
Best best best rubber tree video I’ve seen ❤️ Someone gifted me a fresh cutting and put it in soil. I’m taking it out and putting it in water like you said. Thanks!
Nice, good luck.
Your tineke is BEAUTIFUL! It is the perfect specimen of a tree, with leaves from top to bottom. Tineke goals!
Aww. Thank you. Definitely one of my favourite plants I have right now.
Are you selling the leaves of your burgundy ?
Thanks! I was inspired and cut my plant that was getting too tall and only had leaves at the top. I added some ground coffee to the soil and left the base of the plant in the sun for a few days and after about 10 days I have a new plant!
I’m having this same issue! You cut off the top and planted that into the pot? Do the branches grow back??

Haha ok Bob

@@gofigure4920 you’re the perfect candidate!
I'm just here for the comments! 😁
Your ficuses (ficii?) are breathtakingly gorgeous. Their leaves are astounding. I often comment on ficus elastica videos because these plants irritate the heck out of my eyes and make them red and itchy and give me asthma too. When I started suffering from these symptoms, I knew it had to be something new in the environment. I put the two ficuses outside and cleaned around the house, and problem gone in about 2 weeks. Something to do with the natural rubber/latex I guess. I even start to itch when I pass clusters of them in shops because the particles are airborne. Just thought I'd mention it in case someone is your viewers' environments are suffering from mysterious red/itchy eyes and breathing probs. I donated the plants to a new home. I still miss how beautiful they were. Never had a reaction to any other plants - not even dumb canes or English ivy (2 other plants that I banished while trying to find the allergy, but have since welcomed back).
Oh wow. Thanks for sharing that info, I never thought about the latex and reaction. Im sure you missed them and know that they’re being loved and cared for. 🙂
My burgundy ficus elastica is my pride and joy. I got him as a baby about 2 years ago, and now he's over 4 feet tall. Like yours, he's more bush like, and he puts out new leaves weekly. I have a baby ruby that I'm excited to watch grow too.
That’s awesome. Always good to read thriving plants and how much they’ve grown. 😊
I love the way you organize your plants. That Chain of Hearts on your wall looks so stunning in vertical column.
Thank you. I never thought about the vertical column look it does give. I’m thinking of growing another one and hang it upstairs in my bedroom.
@@CrazyPlantGuy 🙌👍😊
You are just amazing with your care of the Rubber plants! Thank you for showing how to properly propagate this plant.
Oh my I wish I should have seen your video long time ago! You saved me for not throwing my rubber plants. They are not a cheap plants that’s why I’ve been wanting to save them. I will definitely follow your advice. I will repot my burgundy rubber plant and propagate. Thanks so much for sharing your video! You are the BEST!
Great advice man. Thanks!
Thank you for this! I inherited a burgundy from a funeral years ago. While it was healthy & very tall (over 4ft) it required heavy support. I had never thought to prune it. It has been heavily pruned now to a more stable height. Fingers crossed it takes it well and continues to thrive.
I inherited a 6-foot tall scragley ficus robusta about 3 years ago. I tidied it up and propegated about 5 different pieces. Only one took though but is now about 3 foot tall and I’m getting a new huge leaf almost every other week. By the way, I live in Chicago and this was my first attempt with a rubber plant/bush/tree. I’ve got 3 other plants that are over 25 years old including a peace lily and an umbrella tree. I’ve killed my almost 20-year old asparagus fern at least a dozen times and it still keeps coming back.
Loved the video!
I just propagated my burgundy rubber plant a few days back and I can already see roots developing in the cuttings... such exciting times! 😀
Oooh so exciting. 😆 Happy planting
Thank you so much for the way you explained and showed how to propagate this beautiful plant! Especially, for showing what to expect and what to do later on!
My propagation just sprouted its first leaf! Thanks for the help❤
Yay. Congrats! 🥳
Very very happy to visit your canal.I see your program from Iran.and you are the one who can answer all of my ficus questions.
Thanks alot
I have been meaning to repot my burgundy rubber tree so this video came at the perfect time!
This looks easy totally gonna try. Best tip : throw in other plants with roots!
Thank you for sharing knowledge in repotting
Thanks for this very informative video, I saved my cuttings from dying, one week now and roots are coming out!
Also, thank you so much for uploading videos in this difficult time, really appreciate the distraction!
Averil Thanks...it also helps distract me and gets me through my days. 😊 Stay safe.
I love how in depth you go into your explanations, you answer every question that pops up in my head, it’s insane! Thank you for great plant content 🥰🌱
Thank you so much, glad you found it helpful and really appreciate the comment.
This was SOOO helpful and it really WORKS! Tried it on my lemon lime with a pothos in a glass jar! Thank you! 😊
Yay. That’s awesome.
been watching your videos during these times, im very much encouraged of your personal experiences so I am getting myself some of the plants that you have....btw, I'm an OFW here in Indonesia...best regards to you and your channel.
❤️
I had no idea you cut so many off 1 piece. I just put a cutting with 5 leaves and put in water. Glad I saw your video
I found the video very informative and it’s good you show the different steps to take. Thanks
Such great information. Thank you. My plant needs much attention and now I know what to do. Thanks again. Stay safe and well
Faith Gibbs Thanks Faith. No better time than to give your plants some attention. Stay safe as well.
I just god a Tineke for barely any money at my grocery store. So happy to watch it grow big
Thank you for the wonderful information! Now I know everything I did wrong to propagate my Burgundy 🙃. I might have to start all over. Was hoping to get it to be like yours, bushy so I cut the top out and the part I cut out I just stuck in water instead of cutting into several 😫. Really enjoyed your help on these.
Man, I am so jealous! I've had a ficus elastica ruby for almost two years now and it has grown like 5 leaves at most (and much smaller than the previous ones). At first I had kept it in its original pot, which was too small and couldn't retain water, so I guessed that was the reason, but after I repotted it (it's been more than a year now) nothing much changed.. It grows like 3 leaves each summer and then stops. Plus, its old leaves are still droopy from when it used to be in its nursery pot. It's in front of a south facing window, so it gets bright light, but no direct sunlight. For a small period I put it outside during the summer to get sunlight, but it was probably too much and some leaves got burnt and it lost all its pink too, so I put it back indoors.. I also fertilize it every now and then, but I don't know what else to do. It was so pretty when I bought it, but now it looks droopy and sad and DOESN'T GROW, lol!
im in love with his Teneke
Nice! Now I know exactly what to do with my 8 foot tall ficus!!!
😊❤👍
I have those plants and I love them. Sending full support.
It's very informative. I really wish to have one burgundy in my house but it's really expensive in the flower store. Everytime I go there, I was just looked at them. Maybe one day I will have it in God's time🙏
beautiful! I just got one and I want to know more about how to taking care of it! Thanks your tip!
Thank you for showing us how to care for that plant
Wow! That’s exactly what I needed to know. Purchased a diseased plant from a lady and I don’t like it, so will propagate all the leaves. 😌
that was so full of infomation thank you I am about to report and propergate my rubber as well (David from SA)
Very well explained!! I have a big cutting and idk how I’m going to get it propagated but I’ll try it!!
Rewatch! Looking forward to propogating my ficus plants someday. They are still babies but it's exciting to think about.
Just got my first elastica and it’s a ruby. Super excited to learn everything I can. Thank you for the great video, appreciate you.
How's it going?
You are amazing

Excellent
Love watching
Thank you
I've got both ficus & learnt so much from you. Thanks from Malaysia.🌿🇲🇾
I love planting.
Omg I'm so jealous of your string of hearts!! Its absolutely stunning, I hope mine grows like that one day! I try and untangle and keep it looking nice but yours is on a whole new level!! 🥰 and I love your rubber plants mines still a little baby but its growing well so far.
Such a helpful video! Thank you!!
You make it look so easy!! huhu I’m still nervous when it comes to cutting my ficus elastica. I had an experience where I cut off the top part of my ficus lyrata and a few days later it died 😭😭😭 Although I’m itching to repot my rubber plant esp now that it is summer here, I can’t do it because I’m afraid I’ll do something off and it will die eventually. This video of yours gave me courage!! 🙌🏻 thank you!
I know what you mean. It’s always scary to cut a plant. But if your plant is healthy and grows well. Cutting it will encourage the plant to push out growth.
Crazy Plant Guy thank you ❤️
I keep watching your video.. makes me happy.
I got all my rubber plants from Home Depot and one from a grocery store😁 they're all doing wonderful!
Awesome. I got my Tineke from Home Depot too...ficus are my fav plants
My first plant was a burgundy Elastica and she’s doing beautifully, growing new leaves like crazy. I water her maybe twice a month and she sits beside an east facing window. Would like to try propagating but too nervous 😬
Very beautiful plants I love rubber plants
I'm attempting to propagate a couple of leaves from my tineke with your help! The plant was obviously a cutting from a really big plant once upon time as the leaves are ginormous, I adore it, but it's just been an unhappy plant the whole time I've had it and it's turning south quickly. Fingers crossed these cuttings root!
You might need to be patient if the stem is really thick. Good luck.
@@CrazyPlantGuy will do! :)
Thank you so much ! 💖 from 🇦🇺
Great video! All the info I need to propagate &/or take care of these guys! Thanks
So nice... Thnx for the information. There's a huge one growing by the bank and i took a cutting tonight 😊 hopefully my 6 cuttings grow roots 😊
Beautiful rubber plants
Thank you for sharing propagating rubber plants.
Thanks for the technique demonstration to propagate Ficus elastica.
Good to hear “tadaaaa”😆😆
I just love your string of harts I wish I had a Burgundy one just love it great video
How did I not notice that chain of hearts 🤣 Looks amazing doesn’t it! 😍
I got an awesome little burgundy from Etsy a couple of months ago. It's got 5 little stalks. $13 + shipping. It's great. So if you're looking, Etsy is my favorite plant shop
@@toucan4207 nice
That string of heart 😍
Sir too much amazing your Rubber tree I adore
I just got a really healthy burgundy from winndixie for $10! I've been impressed with them and publix on their indoor plants
Thanks for all the info! Just started my porch container garden about five months ago. Love my Ruby and Burgundy, and they've nearly tripled in size. So I was curious if they were ready to graduate from 6" to some 8" pots. But I guess they can wait til next spring then.
Have a cute Tineke too, but she's the latest addition and quite small compared to her older sisters.
Thank you sa idea ❤️😊 magpro propagate kami ng rubber plants this week 😊
I lost my rubber plant after having it for 18 years. I was devastated, even my husband was. He loved it.😢😢😢😢
Nancy Paiz oh no. That’s devastating. 😢 did you manage to get a cutting to save it?
@@CrazyPlantGuy Unfortunately no. I got that one at IKEA for 1:50$. It was one of our first plants we got when we moved in with my boyfriend, husband now. I lost a few plants. Was going through a ruff time. My plants payed for it.😭😭😭😭
I noticed that your Tineke's leaves are pointing upwards so you only get a blurry version of the leaf pattern...I have discovered that to gently rub your thumb and forefinger along the leaf spine, bending the leaf down slightly encourages the leaf to bend to a more open position...sometimes has to be done a few times but you then get to appreciate the patterns on the top of the leaves
Thank you for this video. I've learned a lot about propagating the rubber tree. Can you give me the right potting mix soil for the rubber plant? Thank you. 🤗
This was so helpful, thank you so much for content! You are lovely 😊
This is the easiest propagation of #ficuselastica, thank you, it will do the same for me. Thanks❤️
Thank you sooo very much! I have been wanting to repot and propage my Fucus Burgundy as well. So glad I was going thru my UA-cam subscriptions and saw this one
That’s awesome. I also need to repot my BOP this summer. I’ve never tried the semi hydroponics 🤔
Awesome video! Enjoyed the detailed information. Thank you so much!
I think I’m obsessed with this rubber plant . I found a leaf on the ground that I picked up and took home when buying my orchid and lucky bamboo plant. My question is, can You use decorative gravel to mulch and give a finished look while protecting from fungus gnats?
I enjoy how I gain so much ideas and knowledge from the first video I ran into today. Thank you sir.
Great. Glad you find the videos helpful. 😊
Thanks for the helpful tips and showing the results, too!
Can you do an update of how your burgundy cuttings turned out? My burgundy plant was similar to yours except the roots were a bit bigger, I went ahead and separated mine so now I have 5 plants, the last couple months they have grown really good 😊 I just haven't attempted propagating yet but I'd like to see how yours turned out if you can 😊
Very similar to a kalancho plant. Had a kalancho plant as a kid and I took a leaf put it in soil and it would grow a little plant at the base of the leaf.
Dang I was hoping you'd take apart that bush ficus so I can get an idea of what to do for mine. He seems so crowded in the home depot pot! Lol
Great video!!👌
Thank you very much !!
Great Video as always. Ficus elastica is also one of our favorite plants👍🏾👍🏾
Wow Ganda.. 👍👍👍
Love ur string of hearts hanging from the back
I love this video!
I love your video!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks man! Love how you explain plant things.
Very good info. Thanks.
This is really helpful and I will try! :)
ur not crazy u are amazing
Thank you.... so very helpful 😍😍
Very nicely explained
I think the Tineke is fine? I've been told that Ficuses like to be pot bound to an extent, kind of like how they are in nature as trees. Also maybe the roots you saw were aerial roots? When ficus elastics receive bright light they tend to produce aerial roots which means they're very "happy". Oh and I'm finding from experience that Tinekes can be very sensitive especially when repotted when they aren't ready for it yet because their top leaves turn yellow and drop lol happened to mine.
Re small leaves, I'm finding that sometimes, the new growth is small and at times, the new growth is big but usually after two weeks. the small growth catches up to the size of the older leaves and becomes just as big.
I was wondering about this also. I thought these liked more root binding than that but maybe not all?
Same, my ficus is not at all root bound and it has those roots on the soil surface, was told it helps them absorb oxygen.
wimbletone Yes very true that they like to be a bit snug in their container, my Ruby did well in those conditions until it got to a point where it just wasn’t growing anymore. The Tineke could probably have been ok in the same container for another year, but I wanted to add a bit depth in the container because it will most likely stay in this new one forever and that way where I cut the top next season to promote branching I won’t need to repot it for a while. 😊
Crazy Plant Guy i think you need to add the Shivereana to your ficus elastica collection!
@@CrazyPlantGuy in Sydney, Australia there is a native ficus that is growing between bricks on an old building. It's never grown tall. Just a bushy plant about 2 feet tall. It's been there for many many years.lol. Ficus are amazing and so hardy. This old little plant probably started out from a bird poop after the bird enjoyed the fruit. 😘
